It's so cute here! We stayed in a bnb near by and this place was the first to pop up for restaurants. We had a really good Cesar salad with chicken & I had a Reuben, the corned beef was Soooooo good. So soft and tasty. The service was nice and our server was very attentive. Such a cute place!

Yesterday, my sorority alumni met at Maggie Mae's for our fall luncheon. My seat had the perfect view of changing fall leaves. The weather here on Long Island was absolutely horrible. When I set out on my road trip upstate, I almost turned around and went home. I am so glad that I didn't! Not only did I share some funny memories and have some good laughs with my sisters of all ages, but I had an incredible lunch, followed by a dessert that almost literally blew me away! I'll post the pictures, but I'll tell you that I had a delicious chicken francaise with asparagus and the most wonderful mashed potatoes. I saved most of the potatoes for last, with a fair bit of the sauce. I only wish that I had brought a rubber scraper with me so I could get every last delicious speck of mashed potatoes. Then came my favorite part: dessert! The menu describesit as a rich chocolate Guinness cake with cream cheese frosting. Yelp reader, I am a Guinness girl. However, I could not begin to conceptualize how the two flavors would work together. Not only did they work together wonderfully, but the cream cheese frosting put an interesting sweet little twist on the flavor. I have a terrible sweet tooth. and when I find a sweet that I like, I just can't get enough of it. I wish I could have another piece of that cake right now...

Easter brunch was great except for the fact that they made my children (3 and 6 years old) order off the pre fixed menu at $40/person..

On the weekends it turns on a late-night party scene filled with college students. It is lined up right in Main Street with other smaller restaurants and bars. This was one of my favorite cheap eateries in the town while I was in college. I have been here twice since for happy hour specials. I ordered the chicken wings and the shrimp tacos. The drinks were around $5 which is a steal compared to New York City prices. In the past they used to offer a large fishbowl drink for your birthday. It was huge and took several people to drink it. Currently it is the size of a large cup as you can see in the picture. It does the job but it is much smaller than what it was in 2010. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. I usually sit at the bar which is a great place to meet others and watch the game. Everyone usually comes in for drinks and a quick meal. There are large tables for families to come in and spread out. Everyone was nice here. I plan to come back soon and take advantage of the happy hour specials again.

The atmosphere is definitely college bar, with a sprinkling of older locals and a smattering of tourists. In other words, a bit of everything, which is much like their menu. Their burgers are consistently superb, as is their broiled salmon, eggplant fries, and even their eggplant parm (yes, truly), among many other things. But today, it was wing day. Stopped in w best friend, Pots & Pans, AKA Stumbleweed. We split a dozen, half garlic parmesan, half teriyaki. Meaty and juicy (to the point that P&P "sauced up" his shirt). Ice cold draughts on a hot day. And our server, Brittany, was great. Efficient, effective, and effervescent. I thought she was going to do a cartwheel for us. Overall, 5 rama lama wing dong stars

Here at P&G's you'll find a decent bar menu (some on tap, some in bottles, some other drinks), decent layout (our seats were around a couple of corners, the bar kinda bisects the whole place), and decent service (we were a bit under-noticed, but that was corrected promptly once fixed). I suppose that this place is geared toward SUNY more than downtown, and that's honestly not a bad thing. Well, we went for the food, and I'd say a bit more than just decent. I really liked the clam chowder. It's not authentic New England style, but it's sweeter and thicker - I actually liked it more! The bread I dipped was quite good, everyone else enjoyed their food, and I think I got to try a couple of fries and those hit the spot as well. Verdict: New Paltz isn't a town I'd return to in general, but you could do far worse than P&G's while there. In fact, I'm not sure you could do better. Come one, come all.

A few of us were interested in the chicken sandwich special served Rueben style on Texas toast. I asked if I could order it but put it on a brioche bun instead I was told NO. All of the other sandwiches came on a brioche bun so I figured it wasn't a big deal but I really got a hard NO from the server. Another special was fish tacos. It was disappointing in taste, quality, and presentation. It was flat breaded fish filets on mini tortillas with some iceberg lettuce and a bit of pico. We asked for a sauce or hot sauce and were handed a bottle of of Tabasco. The other fish sandwiches were mediocre and definitely not homemade. Even the fries were frozen and not crispy. I guess I expected better for the steep prices.

Pat, the event coordinator, was amazing every step of the way, very helpful, knowledgeable and informative. The personal wait staff for the party was great, always around and ready. What I was most pleased with was the food. People always remember the food from the party and the food provided from Mahoneys and their kitchen staff was great. The penne vodka was flavorful and creamy and the chicken Marsala complimented it well. The party was around 60 people and we had plenty of food, people went up for 2nd and 3rd and we still had leftovers. And did I mention affordable?? I am always scared when ordering shrimp cocktail due to the fact some establishments use crap grade shrimp, well not this place, they were spectacular. I believe many of the chefs I read graduated from the Culinary Institute of America which is located extremely close to this restaurant, and this could be part of the reason why their food game is on point. My girlfriend got the beef stew, and they gave ample portions of meat with delicious gravy and the mashed potatoes were nothing to sneeze at either. I got a couple Jack and Diet's and the upcharge for a double is not that bad, at the time of writing this I believe it is a four-dollar upcharge. Also got a merlot and it was fresh and delightful. If I lived closer to this place, I would be here all the time. There are several colleges near here, so I assume the vibe is great as well if you are looking to come and have a good time. The train station literally shares there parking lot so if you plan on partaking in a good time with drinks and spirits it would be a good idea to just train it over. As always people SYOY, and if you live even remotely close to Mahoney's, visit often for me! Cheers!!
