This establishment is the epitome of average. My wife and I split the turkey burger wrap. The wrap contained turkey, bacon, lettuce , tomato and provolone. Exactly what you would expect . The fries were good. Our sever was friendly and attentive. For drinks my wife had the Harpoon Winter Warmer on tap and enjoyed it. I had the Gaslamp ale. Nice light flavor. Amazing service, food, and ambiance. They have seasonal cocktails that are out of this world. They also make an incredible espresso martini. We split some apps and enjoyed a few rounds of cocktails. Waitress was incredibly kind and handled a floor full of customers by herself. The bar was doing a fun decorating challenge paired with a charitable component. I've been coming to Newport with family for a week each year for more than 30 years. We've been to many many places for dinner over that time. This place hit the trifecta of ridiculously high prices, mediocre food, and really poor service. I can safely say it was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've ever had in Newport I'll not go into extreme detail here; honestly it's just not worth the time and effort. Easily the worst and most expensive lobster mac and cheese I've ever had, anywhere. Two stars (if you could leave zero stars I'd give 1 star here) because there was no problem having my salad taken off the bill when I asked to cancel it since it hadn't come to the table by the time entrees began to be sporadically served. Even after all the others received their salads or soups, when asked where my salad was, the server said "it's coming" without so much as checking on it. read more

It was our first visit to Newport and everywhere we went was a great experience and the Gaslight didnt disappoint either. We went on a Thursday night to watch the playoffs, we got great seats at the bar in front of the TV; the best seats in the house. Unbeknownst to us, it was Music Trivia night and that was blast too. My husband and I checked this place out last week. We arrived midday, sat at the bar, and ordered drinks and gluten free pizza. Unfortunately, our pizza was never put in so we were unable to try it. The bartender was friendly and apologetic and gave us two free drinks on the house. Totally bummed I wasn't able to try the pizza (we had dinner reservations elsewhere) but I was impressed by their fall drink menu. The tall ceilings and airy interior affected the acoustics of the restaurant making it a very lively atmosphere. This restaurant was quiet on a Saturday afternoon with an open front window to let in the breeze and allowed us to people watch until a delivery truck came blocking the sun and view (not the restaurants fault). The creole dish was good and had a lot of fish and shrimp but the rice was very plain and didn't really compliment the dish. Also the market price lobster roll was over $40 which I thought was a little outrageous for the size as you can see. They have a little bit of everything Since it's the 1st nice day out and there's A cruise ship in the Barbour the town is hopping and all the restaurants are packed. After three days of delicious-ness throughout Newport, Gas Lamp was a HUGE disappointment. Our original plan was to go somewhere else but when we parked we saw the open doors to the outside with tables and decided to stay. WORST DECISION OF THE TRIP! The drinks? DISGUSTING! The "sangria" was maybe vodka with a splash of cranberry and a skewer with a slice of orange, lemon and lime.. the cucumber martini was like drinking dirty dishwater and vodka with a soggy slice of cucumber and lime. The food? AWFUL. We had the street corn dip for an app and we had to dig to find one piece of corn and it was cold. The lobster bisque definitely came out of a bag, the spicy clam chowder was neither spicy or a chowder with not a piece of clam to be had. The grilled chicken tacos were cold and the chicken was from a package of Perdue chicken selects. We didn't finish the food or the drinks and the worst part is that we paid $150! This was a cute little spot I found while visiting Newport, RI. It was my first time ever having a lobster roll, and I'd have to say it did not disappoint!! It was fantastic. The brioche roll was soft and buttery, big chunks of sweet lobster meat with a little cup of melted butter you can top to your liking (I used the whole thing of course). I had best dinner at Gas Lamp Grille. I started out with the chowder. It was delicious! I love the spice they add to it. Then I enjoyed a cod fish creole dish. Ordered a lemonade martini and there was no lemonade it was basically dirty dish water water and vodka. My friend came once before and recommended me the steak sandwhich. Never again will I order this absolute abomination of an excuse of a sandwhich. Each bite was just full of fat and had absolutely not flavor at all. Nice location in Newport. We decided to dine here because I was craving chili. I've never seen chili served with mozzarella cheese; usually it is cheddar. It was very good and balanced in flavors. My dining companion wanted a salad which she stated was good. We shared a Margarita pizza on a cauliflower crust. This pizza was not the best. When we cut it it was very very watery. I did mention it to our server that wasn't that great but did not get much of a response at all. This server was in training so maybe that needs to be addressed to her so she will know how to acknowledge a future issue. The atmosphere was pleasant and it wasn't too loud. read more

This review is a little hard because the location was nice, the waitress was lovely, but the food was just "okay" across the board. Me and my two friends all agreed. One of my friends has allergies and even though she gave them a list of her allergies she still had an allergic reaction. We're not exactly sure what it was, but it must have been cross contamination. They didn't take the meal off the bill even though she let the waitress know, so she paid for food she only took one bite of. Nice ambiance...we sat right next to the open windows/doors and there was a nice breeze hitting us on this warm & humid afternoon. The only uncomfortable moment was when a man walking by stopped and asked for some spare change... Our waitress was very friendly and took our order very accurately as I had requested my buffalo caesar wrap without the buffalo and dressing on the side. I didn't think it would come out correctly, but it was exactly what I had ordered! So, my wrap was pretty good...many pieces of grilled chicken with fresh romaine, but not enough parmigiana/cheese for me. But I'm also assuming that most people don't order the dressing on the side, so perhaps they kept the same amount of cheese as if the dressing was inside the wrap. My diet coke tasted odd...a bit minty? Maybe a mint leaf fell in? We ordered the nachos for an appetizer and they were pretty good. The chips were warm and tasted homemade to me...with just the right amount of cheese melted with the olives. My best friend enjoyed her burger. She said it was cooked just how she had ordered it. All in all, our meals were fine. Nothing spectacular. The appetizer came out pretty quickly but the wait time for our meals took a bit longer than we expected.
