I am very disappointed with my experience with Gateway Classic Cars. On April 9, 2026, I purchased a classic vehicle for approximately $50,000. I understood the car was sold "as is," but it was represented as having only 1,440 miles on a rebuilt engine. About two weeks after delivery, the car broke down while I was turning into my driveway and had to be towed. After getting it back on the road, I drove it again, and the engine catastrophically failed on the interstate. At that point, I had driven the vehicle only 72 miles since taking delivery. I contacted Chris Rockwell to explain the situation. After speaking with management, the dealership offered only $1,000 toward rebuilding an engine that I was quoted approximately $6,500 to repair. I understand the risks of buying a classic vehicle "as is," but I expected a rebuilt engine with such low mileage to last longer than 72 miles. ***BEWARE***! If you're considering consigning your car with them, be ready for a bait and switch! After extensive correspondence with the Scottsdale Arizona location, we were told to bring our car in and that they would consign it for the price we wanted plus their markup. After over 10 hours of driving back and forth from San Diego and $350 worth of fuel, we were turned away. First of all, the floor manager that approves all cars coming in was off that day, but they still had us make the drive assuring us it was all approved. Then when we got there, it was an hour or more of texting back and forth from the on-site salesperson to the floor manager who is gone on personal business. We were told the only way they would take the car is if we dropped the price $11,000 from what they already agreed to put it on their floor at. A colossal waste of time! I reached out to management at the Illinois location and two days later still no response, clearly they don't care. I have a total of five cars I was planning on selling through them, don't see that happening now. It's crazy that I have a complete email chain from the sales rep guaranteeing they would take my car in and at the price they agreed to, and then to lie to us and turn us away after 5+ hours each way, I don't know how they can operate like that without feeling any guilt. We rented a space to celebrate our daughter's Sweet 16, paid in full, and we're in and out over a course of three weeks measuring and ordering things to make the space beautiful. One day, my mom randomly went to the website and saw a banner that said "we are no longer doing events". Surely they weren't talking about our event that we already paid for and ordered table cloths/decor for! Yup!!! They were. Not a call to tell us anything. My dad had to go check it out and to ultimately get his money back. "oh we emailed you" No, you should've called. They threw a huge monkey wrench in our event planning. See my initial review with the "Owners" response. They said, "We provide detailed photos, video and information for each vehicle in our inventory and we are happy to provide any additional detailed photos or information upon request so we can be as transparent as possible during the purchase process." That's exactly what I complained about, none of this was done! Called the "Customer Advocate" at 866-383-1416 left message days ago, no response. They did not have photos of the paint defects, they did not describe the truck condition as a repaint, they did not say that the clutch throughout bearing made noise when clutch is engaged ($1500 to $2000 repair). I asked for additional info. and was led to believe the paint was excellent and that it was a "great truck" in writing. If I don't get a better response I'll take legal action! read more

I did not purchase a vehicle, but if you just want to go in and see a lot of nice classic cars for sale, be sure to stop in. They have a large number of cars and trucks. All but a couple are for sale. I was visiting family and saw the business a couple of times when I was driving by and decided to stop in and check it out. I had never been here before so I wasn't sure what it was. It is set up like a museum, but the cars are being sold by consignment. Everything is indoors so don't worry about the weather. There is a sign saying there is an admission to the museum, but they didn't charge me this time. I talked to one of the guys who said he was from corporate. He was very friendly and told me all about the business and that they had locations all over the country. I can't give you any experience with buying a classic car from here, but judging it as a place to see classic cars, I give it a 5 out of 5. BUYERS BEWARE! One of the worst car-buying experiences I've ever had. On June 5, 2025, I purchased a 1970 Chevelle SS from Gateway Classic Cars. I was told by Salesperson Justin Slaton that: * The car was in "perfect working condition." * The engine was new with only 400 miles and produced 700 HP. * The air conditioning worked great. * The vehicle was a true Chevelle SS. These statements were made verbally and in their ad materials. I relied on these representations when deciding to purchase the vehicle for $75,000. When the car arrived in Florida on June 18, (3 days late) the truth became immediately apparent: * The A/C didn't work at all. * The engine made loud noises and failed completely during my first short drive. The car had to be towed. * My mechanic confirmed catastrophic engine failure and advised not to even restart it. * An expert inspection by a local Classic Car repair shop revealed metal shavings in the oil and severe internal damage. Worse yet: After professional research, the car turned out to be a Malibu Sport, not a true Chevelle SS. This is a value difference of over $30,000. Total estimated damages: $15,000 - Engine rebuild and A/C repair $30,000 - Devaluation due to false SS claim = $45,000 in total loss. I understand buying a classic car "As Is," but misrepresenting the engine, working condition, and authenticity of the car is fraud--not just bad salesmanship. If you're considering a purchase--don't take them at their word. Triple-check everything independently. Their "quality control" and honesty are clearly lacking. Just arrived back in Las Vegas, from Gateway Classics, Nashville, Tn. Bob Pierce the salesman and I text each other several times about a Truck I was interested in buying. I ask him if it leaked any oil, he said no. I ask him if he thought it was a fast build or a solid truck, he said he didn't think so. He did try to sell me a different truck that I didn't want. I ask him for more pictures which never came. So after spending about $1000.00 on a trip to look at the truck, the first thing I noticed was a big oil spot under the truck. Bob said that might be from another vehicle that was parked there, so I got under and verified it for myself. Sure enough transmission leaking all around, when I told him, no reaction. Then I bought it and the nightmare began axle perches bent first drive home the u bolts where loose.. transmission blew 3 quarts low on fluid was driven 1500 miles on a new tranny blew it ...transfer case blew up same time as transmission...rear end and couple pieces of metal still working on it....spent 37500.00 on a nice looking truck but was built by an idiot..Bolts not tighten loose parts everywhere..this place is a scam they knowingly sell cars that have major mechanical issues...still working on mine so far new transmission new transfer case new radiator was mixing fluids...stay away from these scammer you have been warned read more

I bought a 1993 Viper from the Atlanta branch of Gateway Classic Cars which is head quartered in O'Fallon, Ill. I live in Bandera, Texas and bought the car online. I had asked the Salesperson Warren about the clutch since it had 33k miles on it. I was assured that it was in good shape, that he had driven the car and that it ran smoothly. I also asked about the A/C and was told it blew cold air but could use a recharge. I then asked if GCC had an inspector who I could get to look over the car and confirm the condition of the clutch. I was recommended to Mike Thies a well respected inspector in the local Atlanta area. His report stated that it was a #1 Excellent car and appraised the car at $50k. I purchased the car and it arrived a few days later. When the car was unloaded it would not start. After some phone calls to the Atlanta dealership I was informed the clutch switch was bad. After towing the car to my house and getting it started I discovered that the clutch would disengage and slip at anything more than 1/4 throttle. After towing it to a repair shop it was discovered the clutch was worn and needed replacing. The clutch switch was no good and needed replacing also and the A/C didn't work either. Total repair bill was $1550.15 and that didn't include the A/C. I had the car 2 weeks before I could drive it. Chris, the General Manager of Gateway Classic Cars in O'Fallon did offer to pay half of the clutch estimate (about $650). I refused the offer since I had paid a premium price for a car that Gateway owned and had assured me that the clutch was in good working order. Bottom line is the salesperson lied several times, apparently had a big name inspector fooled into believing him too and the car showed up not being able to start with a bad clutch and a non working A/C. Car bought from the St.Louis store. To be forewarned....They will tell that they inspect the car mechanically, they don't. They tell you they inspect the car for any leaks, they don't. I bought a 1987 300zx. I understand that the car is over 30 years old. Exterior/Interior are in very good condition. The car runs excellent. However, it leaks transmission fluid. The clutch is going out. I can't get the care to pass emissions in colorado. The catalytic converter is bad and rusted to the car. So much for mechanical inspections! Photos on website did not disclose the damage to the car. They admitted later that did see it. Also, the transport of the car was screwed up five ways to Sunday. And a month later I still don't have a Bill of Sale When you sell cars on-line, by consignment, customers expect full transparency. Lying by ommission is just as bad as lying overtly. I have bid on the car, multiple times, each time being the high bidder (their reserve did not get met). I emailed them three times, asking what the seller is looking to get for the car, as I wanted to purchase the car. No response. I called the Chicago showroom, five days ago, spoke with Lou, told him I would like to buy the car, he said he would contact the owner, see what they want, and call me back. You guessed it, no call back. So if they are not motivated to sell their cars, how do they stay in business? My guess is they collect enough consignment fees to keep the doors open. Bought a '75 Corvette from Gateway Classic Cars Nashville. Tried to drive the car home and 46 miles later had to pay $200 to get it towed back to Gateway. Engine was blown. Paid $650 more dollars to have it towed to a garage in my home town. Having to pay out another $5200 for a new engine and brakes all the way around. My local mechanic said it was a good thing the car died on me as my brakes probably wouldn't have stopped me on the road. Do yourself a favor and check out some local car rallies to shop for a classic car. Do not waste your time with Gateway Nashville as they do not back any of their cars, and they will tell you that before you purchase. PEOPLE, PAY ATTENTION. Gateway Classic Cars has very questionable business practices. I wanted to list my 1970 SS El Camino with this company in the fall of 2020. I called and asked all the question about the process. They tell you what you want to hear, and then they send you a contract. Like most people, I really wanted to sale my car, and was willing to pay a fair commission to have someone else do it. In short, paragraph 1 of the contract is all about getting you ready for the game, it is called "NET AMOUNT". This is where you agree to the, and let me quote "Initial net amount for the sale of the vehicle". "This amount is also referred to as Net To Owner". There is some other wording in this paragraph, but here is and I quote the wording you need to understand: "Any amount earned over final written Net To Owner amount will be retained by Consignee as commission." Now, we can move on to paragraph 2 of the Gateway Classic Car contract. Minimum Consignment Commission. I am going to quote the part you need to read and understand. "The minimum consignment commission retained by the consignee will be $2,500 or 12.5% of the sale price, whichever is greater". "The consignee reserves the right to charge a buyer's Fee up to 12.5% of the sale price, although this does not create any agency relationship between the Consignee and the buyer, and the Consignee is not acting as a broker for the buyer.". Just to make a few things clear. The buyers premium is included in the asking price of any vehicle price you see posted for a vehicle sold by Gateway Classic Cars. Now, stop and read the above comments over and over until you are blue in the face and think you have understood paragraph one and two of the Gateway Classic Car contract. Now I will explain how this worked for me. I arrived for my appointment to deliver my car to the Atlanta show room. My appointment was with Dennis Vanterpool. Dennis went over the contract with me. He pulled Chris Hicks into the process when we were trying to agree to the Net to Owner price. We agreed that if we went with $35,000 as the Net to Owner, the car would be listed for just under $40,000. We knew there would be some potential negotiating before it was over, but we all agreed this price would bring potential buyers. Two weeks later, I called Dennis to find out why my car was never listed on the company website, or any of the sites they say it will be listed. Dennis was unaware the car was not listed, and said he would call me back. One week passes, and no return call from Dennis, so I call the show room and spoke to Chris Hicks. He told me he was just about ready to call me, yea right..... You see at that point my car was pulled outside for photos, but they could not get it started again. I drove three hours back to Atlanta the next day to find they had run the battery dead trying to start the 454 Blower motor. After showing Chris how to start a motor like this, we were back on track to get the car listed. A few days later, my car was listed, and much to my shock, it was listed at $46,000. Now do the math, that makes it 32% over the Net To Owner. Now they have me because the Gateway Classic Car contract states they have the right to list the car at any price. I called Dennis, and asked him about the listing price. He told me corporate set the listing price. He then told me that it was only after he did the paperwork on my car that he learned that every car was listed at 32+% of the Net to Owner because they have expenses of running a business. I told him my contact stated 12.5% commission, but he pointed to the contract that states they can list for any price above the Net to Owner price. Dennis wrote a letter to Gateway Classic Cars owner and copied me on email. Dennis told the owner that what they were doing was confusing and wrong. Dennis was no longer employed after that. After many unanswered phone calls, I found myself talking to Chis Rockwell at Gateway Classic Cars Corporate. His solution to the problem was for me to lower my Net To Owner, so they could lower the asking price. I refused, so he agreed to lower the asking price to $44,000, this would allow them to make just 26% on this sale. Mat car sit on the show room floor in Atlanta until I picked it up at the end of the contract. I am trying to tell you readers two things. First, if you are going to list a car with Gateway Classic Cars, the commission is not the 12.5% they talk about before you drop off your car. The only way to lower the advertised price, is to reduce your Net to Owner, but the 32% Gateway commission will not be changed. Go back to the quote about paragraph 1 where they talk about "Initial amount" for the Net To Owner. They know the Net To Owner amount is going to change, they count on it. The second point is for all you buyers. Keep in mind that EVERY advertised price you see from Gateway Classic Cars has a chump bump that could choke a horse! read more

They found me on craigslist for a 1951 Chevy i had for sale they told me they could get 39000 for it my the time the car got there and after all the fees i would get 10000. I moved the car to streetside classics in Nashville they sold my car in one week for I got 26000 in my pocket the car sold for 32000.
