We came here because of the long wait everywhere else. We heard it's one of the best places in monroeville. Entering was kind of weird. There's no designated hostess desk or sign to tell you how to be seated. It's just a takeout window and then you're supposed to wait in the way next to the kitchen and dining room entrance to be seated. It seemed quite dirty. The employees were friendly though. Very overpriced food at least what we got was. The food wasn't bad at all it just wasn't that great for the price. My husband liked his ribs and they definitely didn't skimp on the fries. But my shrimp were pretty bland and the amount of food wasn't as much as you'd expect. Lots of people had pizza though, I'm wondering if that's any good. If we come back I'd probably go for the pizza. It smelled pretty good. read more

Great restaurant, the food is good, there are tv's lining the walls with a selection of sports playing, the staff is friendly, the area is clean, and the food portions are very generous for the price. All of the dishes are cooked over a wood fire. It's a really great ploy for a restaurant and you can definitely taste a higher quality of food because of it. My only complaint is that the restaurant area was very noisy. I enjoyed everything about my meal but I left with a headache from people yelling. That is a major turn-off for me. read more

Unsanitary!!! During our meal a man in a tank top was walking in and out of the kitchen, and he licked his fingers while using the grill at least once that I saw. I got a gift for this place and never have been here. Let me tell you I can not do Plain about anything I got. We ordered the rib appetizer platter w ribs, wings, provolone cheese sticks, and potato skins. The ribs were cooked to perfection and the sauce was out of this world. Hands down some of the best ribs I've ever had. The wings I got mild buffalo which were very tasty! For lunch we each got a burger. I got The stacker with included onion rings, ham, bacon, and cheddar cheese. It was NO skimpy burger by any means I got it made medium rare which it was cooked perfectly. I could only eat half but it was delicious. It comes with fries as well which were cooked differently but they were light and crunchy outside and soft pillowy center. My partner in crime for this meal got the blue cheese burger with bacon and it was cooked medium and she stated it was one of the best burgers she's had too! Chicken salad with "medley" of veggies added, no cucumber, no cheese, fries on the side, dressing on the side. Stopped on way through Pgh on a Monday. Ordered a philly steak sub and zucchini. The zucchini came out missing patches of breading and was very greasy. I got six strips for $8.50. They were not homemade they were the prepackaged food supply type. Terrible. Steak sandwich tasted like fryer grease. Don't know why that was because nothing on the sandwich should have been deep fried. Didn't finish the zucchini or the sandwich. I've been here before and thought the food was pretty good. I ordered a rack of ribs with a side of chili and the vegetable blend. While the chili arrived lukewarm, it was still pretty good. The ribs, however, were excellent! Both the sauce and cooking level were just right. Even the vegetable blend was great! While the televisions kept the noise level up, it wasn't too bad. I would definitely return if I was in the area. The only downside came the next day. Since I was staying at a hotel overnight, I went to get breakfast for 6:30, but I was disappointed that they only opened at 8:00. As much as I would like to give this establishment a 5 Star rating I find it difficult to muster a one star rating. Service was extremely slow at the bar. Place seemed well staff, so much that staff were complaining that they were " stumbling" into one another. Several staff members behind bar were very busy chatting with one another. A gentleman working behind bar " Adam" finally appeared and things went smoother but as soon as he stepped away employees seemed to want to chat with one another. Ordered food to go, the " Cheese Steak Classic " , it certainly was not of good quality, so much that I threw 90% of it away. Meat was dry and tasteless, bread stale. Could not find any cheese on it, did find about 3 onion slivers on it. Food was in to go container , a sprinkling of damp chips were under subs, bag had no napkins or plastic utensils. Restaurant is behind a major hotel, you'd think they would go extra mile for hotel guests and provide plastic utensils and napkins, not the case. After first beer it took another 10 minutes to get 2nd beer, 3 employees behind bar, only 5 guests at bar. Lady who delivered check said nothing, not a thing, just placed check on bar and walked away, once she ran my credit card she again said nothing, she took final check and again nothing, not a thanks or anything. Went to the room next to bar to buy a 6 pack to go, wanted something new and refreshing. Employees in there were of no use, to busy chatting with one another, if you asked a question you got a quipped response as if you interfered with their conversation. Needless to say I did not purchase any beer to go, although they have an amazing selection. In closing the place has amazing beer selections and the potential to be a 5 star establishment but management needs to remind themselves that they are not operating a social club for their employees. I can here on a business trip and decided just to try it out. The staff was very friendly but busy. As the night went on they were able to be a little more attentive. It seems like most people sitting at the bar are regulars and know each other. The bar had a large selection of draft and bottled beers. They also had a large selection of liquor. The lemonade was out of the gun so not very good but it was not horrible, just a little on the sweet side. The pizza was very good I like mine a little thinner but it was good. The pizza was not drenched in sauce but had plenty of cheese and I mean allot of cheese. So much that I was able to use a fork and spin the cheese a couple of times around it. I saw the vegetable pizza that a server ordered and it looked really good. All in all it was a good experience and I will be back. I wish there was an option to give no stars. The company I work for orders from this place every week. When I asked them if my manager could give them a card number over the phone they said only if it was a business card. I asked to talk to the manager since we order EVERY week and they say "I can try to find him but we are in a rush." Frankly I don't care if you are in a rush, as a WEEKLY customer I expected more consideration. When the manager came he said I could give him the card number. So the other employee was not only rude but LIED. The manager was also unapologetic and barely accommodating. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Their customer service is horrible. Was a typical local Pittsburgh area bar. The waitresses call you honey and very casual. They were nice and attentive . Three dozen beers on tap so I was happy. $5.25 for craft IPAs. . Let me tell you - their salads are not cheap price wise ($12-$13) and I know for a fact that you are supposed to get two pieces of chicken on the Grilled Chicken Salad. Gateway grill is usually delicious, a family favorite. However, as COVID-19 shut everything down except takeout, they seem to not care at all. We have ordered there twice throughout the shutdown and each time the food was spilling out of the box, they screwed up the toppings on the hoagies, and left stuff out. What food they did manage to include, was ice cold. You'd think it be easier when they don't have to worry about dine-in customers on top of takeout. Disappointed. We stumbled on this place looking for a good bar with good food. We've been twice. The first time was for a quick lunch. Sandwiches and fries. They were delicious! The second was for a very casual dinner with our boys. The burgers are amazing. The wings, ribs, and pizza is amazing. The service was spectacular. Bailey is super sweet. This used to be one of our go to places, but it is changing. Two visits ago, the food was not as good as previous visits (ribs cold, sauce too sweet, and poor service). I just assumed it was a bad day. Yesterdays visit was horrible. Over two hours to get our food, no explanation, no acknowledgement of the wait. The ribs are tender and falling off the bone I got a baked potato and a salad as my sides well the potato needed a little more cook time. I'm not complaining everything was delicious. I love Gateway Grill. Never got food here I didn't like. Wings, pizza, burgers are great. I usually order the Pittsburgh salad with chicken instead of steak. Drink specials aren't great, but their wing specials are good. It gets pretty packed on Friday and Saturday nights but I've never had to wait longer than 20 minutes. Service is usually good, some servers could be more pleasant. Crowd can get kind of rough on the bar side during Pittsburgh sports games but nothing the bartenders can't handle. read more

We tried Gateway Grill for the first time after hearing a time or two that it was one of the best local places in Monroeville. We were seated right away in the bar area and the energy and atmosphere is really great, as long as you're looking for that loud, fast paced kind of place. The menu is big, and the beer list is bigger (woohoo!), so there are options for everyone! Our service was decent as was our food, and after we ate we spent about an addition hour or hour and a half just sitting at our table talking, and we never felt rushed or like we were inconveniencing anyone by staying, which was really nice seeing as we were enjoying ourselves and weren't quite ready to call it a night. I originally wanted to try one of their Philly Cheesesteaks (they have 4 different varieties), but ended up changing my order last minute because of a food allergy I have and they unfortunately couldn't guarantee that they could prevent cross contamination (bummer, but greatly appreciated the honesty), so I ended up ordering an Italian Sub as a last minute decision. My sub was pretty good.. maybe it's because it's not what I really wanted, but I didn't totally love it, however I will say that it was HUGE, and I was able to have the 2nd half of it for lunch the next day. We'll definitely be back to Gateway Grill in the near future, and I'll be sure to try something that I actually want this time, haha!
