Mother MotherClucker chicken sandwich
Larry P.

We had a great dinner at Brick and Barrel. We got there at 6 pm and was immediately seated in the room near the fireplace. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was plenty of seating inside as most people were dining outside on the patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress, Nikki, was very friendly and did a good job of serving us. I had the Mother Clucker chicken sandwich and was not disappointed. My wife had a cheese pizza and liked it a lot. There was a very good selection of draft beers at the full bar. They have a great bourbon selection as well. We would go back again.

Well ... I really hate to post bad reviews...but when you are a regular at a restaurant and have given them a LOT of $$$ and are treated as badly as we were, you would not be happy. Called in and talked to Trish ... Asked if we could get a seat near the fireplace around 6:30pm. Trish said that shouldn't be a problem ...and said "the later the better" I said ok great, I'll call back and confirm. I called back 5 minutes later and said we'll be there at 6:45, she said "Great see you then". Showed up at 6:50 with a new business partner and was told "sorry we can't seat you near the fireplace and you'll have to wait 30 minutes." I asked the young boy at the host stand if Trish was there and he said yes ... I told him she had agreed on having us in at 6:45. All of this is just bad ... But what happened next was what brought this review. The young man came back and said Trish said "I never told him that"! You embarrassed me in front of a new business partner ... Good luck Guys ... we won't be back!

Everything is good here. But this place is more of a burger and flatbread/pizza. With a touch of bourbon! It can be pricey. Just keep that in mind!

3/14/25 Ate List: Mussels - 7.8 Nonna's Meatballs - 7.6 Motherclucker - 8.1 Such a cool spot. Removed from the thick of it, feels homey. Service was kind. Could tell our waitress was hustling. Could also sense the "younger staff" members need to learn how to really pitch in. So first, the apps. Mussels came in a very creamy white sauce. Was a unique but delicious taste. Nonna's meatballs were simple but addicting. The Motherclucker was a real star. Great sandwich. Fries were a familiar standard/texture and heat. But a good standard to have. Overall, this spot was awesome! Will absolutely be back!

I went with my best friend! We both got burgers. She got the Gearhead and I got the Gunslinger. I loved all the fresh jalapeños mine came with. If you don't like spicy I would not recommend this one for you. But the burgers were thick and delicious. The fries were also good. The staff was very nice. We can't wait to go back when the weather is nice and sit outside.

Spinach dip with pita bread

My husband and I bought a just pay half coupon for this restaurant and decided to use it this past weekend. I have been here one other time but this was my husband's first experience and he is a tough food critic. There was no wait to be seated and our waitress appeared quickly to take our drink order. Nothing fancy for drinks, water and Diet Coke. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was music playing from a tv; oldies and my husband knew a lot of the songs. He seemed to enjoy this a lot[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We decided on the spinach dip appetizer which was delicious; served with fried pita bread. I ordered the Cobb salad with chicken and he ordered a specialty burger with fries. The portions are huge. Food was delicious and my husband was very impressed with the burger. The coupon was great though we tipped on the amount before the discount.

My sister and I tried Brick and Barrel for the first time tonight! The building itself has a cute and quaint historic charm to it. It kind of reminded me of the Downtown Charleston area restaurants (minus the beach/bay). It was the perfect night to sit outside on their patio (if only I could have a glass of wine, lol). I'm happy to say we did not leave hungry! We shared the large pretzel with beer cheese to start. We both followed that with burgers and specialty fries. My sister enjoyed a couple new cocktails outside our usual box( I'm jealous, haha). I'll definitely have to stop back post-delivery for the Caramel Bourbon . This is the perfect spot for a date night, family outing, or a night out with the girls! Friendly service, tasty food, and cute/casual atmosphere - 10/10 would recommend!

The restaurant is beautiful!! I can't wait to come back and sit on the patio. The server we had was lovely. She was very attentive and quick to clear plates. Additionally, she refilled glasses swiftly as well. I appreciated that. The food was insanely good. I joked that it was too good the be located in the suburbs. No one had complaints about the food. I'm already craving the food again, and I went to dinner yesterday lol. The one negative I could think of is that there wasn't a lot of people in the restaurant, yet the food took a long time. It was definitely noticeable; however, I can't justify lowering their star count for that reason. You need to try Brick and Barrel!! It's phenomenal.

Yeah this is an easy call for five stars. We thought the food was super good. I got a margharita pizza with pepperoni and spicy sauce and it was amazing. My wife got a chicken salad and my son the burger with bacon jam. Everything was tasty and the service was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The look of this place is a great setting in the woods with an outdoor patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I visited Brick & Barrel Cross Keys for the first time during Pittsburgh Restaurant Week, and despite its immense popularity, I was seated immediately--no wait at all. That alone was a great start. I ordered The Barnyard Burger, their specialty duck fat fries, and what a bourbon hot chocolate from their seasonal special drinks menu. Simply put, this was the best burger I have ever had. Everything about it--from the quality of the meat to the toppings and the way it was cooked--was phenomenal. I enjoyed it so much that I returned just a week later to try another burger, The Gunslinger, along with regular fries and the Spinach Artichoke Dip appetizer. Once again, I was not disappointed--the flavors were outstanding, and everything was cooked to perfection. Of all the restaurants I visited during Restaurant Week, this was by far the best experience. The food was great, the service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere, an experience all on its own, really made it stand out, and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're looking for incredible burgers and a top-tier dining experience, Brick & Barrel Cross Keys should be at the top of your list!

It's a proper neighborhood butcher shop on Butler Street, the kind of place that had mostly disappeared around here. They do whole animal butchery with meat sourced from local Pennsylvania farms, and you can feel how much the folks working there care about what they're doing. It's not a huge space, just a display case full of cuts, a wall of house made goods, and a small sandwich menu, but that's part of the charm. The staff were friendly and happy to point me in the right direction. The sandwiches are what really got me though. The smash burger is fantastic, a double patty on a challah bun with that special sauce, and you can actually taste the quality of the beef, which makes sense given the whole operation is built around good meat. I also grabbed some of their house made pastrami, and it did not disappoint, tender and full of flavor. Knowing everything is made in house, right down to the bacon and sausages, makes it even better. If you live nearby and don't have a butcher yet, this is the one.

Love the decor in the shop. There were many prepared food options in the fridge, as well as various cuts of meat/preparations of it. We got two sandwiches, the cheesesteak and the marbella. I dont think we ended up with the correct order because we didn't end up with a cheesesteak, but did not realize until we got home. I'm positive that if I went back to the shop they would've remedied the situation, but I didn't feel it was necessary! The sandwich we did end up with was good as well, unsure which one it was though. Very fair prices, and our dog was so happy we brought him home a bone as well! Looking forward to coming back and trying everything they have to offer.

I was actually quite impressed with how well it was prepared. Nice and flaky but didn't fall apart. The bun it comes on is well proportion with the fish. The only thing I could've went without, was the macaroni salad topped on the fish. However, the food here never disappoints. I'll be back.

We found an adorable part of town to walk through and then we spotted Moonlit Burgers and decided to stop for lunch. They have limited table service in the sense that you place your order with the cashier when you walk in and they bring your food out to you a little bit later on. They even checked on us a few times while we ate. Very nice staff too! The restaurant is a good size with lots of tables for two and few bigger tables as well. They also have a separate bar if you want something other than soda with your burgers. I ordered the Moonlit Smashburger and the hubby ordered a chicken sandwich; we also ordered fries and a drink to share. The cup for the drink was super duper tiny though, and we weren't sure about refills so we just took shallow sips. Next time we'll make sure to get two drinks. The smashburger was so good!! Everything a smashburger should be. The moon sauce was tangy and complimented the meat so well. And those crispy edges!! The fries were nice and crisp too and the hubby thoroughly enjoyed his chicken sandwich. We left the restaurant satisfied and full!!

Tessaro's American Bar…read more Great Atmosphere, Great Staff, but Food and Facilities Missed the Mark Tessaro's American Bar has an amazing atmosphere. The place looks fantastic, the vibe is great, and the wait staff was excellent, friendly, knowledgeable, and there were plenty of them, so service was quick and attentive. The cocktails were very good and definitely one of the stronger parts of the night. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting or the price. We ordered a hamburger with fried potatoes and a blackened shrimp pasta. Both dishes were good, but nowhere near great. My fiancé felt the hamburger needed seasoning. It tasted mostly like plain ground meat with cheese and mushrooms on top. The pasta dish came with impressively large shrimp, but the rest of the meal didn't match that quality. It was just spiral pasta in a runny Alfredo sauce that never thickened, even as it cooled, almost as if the pasta went straight from the water into the sauce. The flavor was fine, but nothing memorable. For the portion sizes, the pricing felt high. A small pasta dish, two cocktails, and a hamburger came to about $90, and the food simply didn't justify that cost. I also want to mention the bathrooms. For as nice as the place looks, both myself and my fiancé were pretty disappointed. They reminded me of old mall bathrooms, cold, dated, and not well maintained. They're also located right next to the kitchen, which led to an uncomfortable moment. When I stepped out, a blond busser with glasses was loudly cursing at another employee in the kitchen. I was within ten feet of them, so I heard the whole exchange, including him saying he was going to tell someone to "go F themselves." Not exactly the kind of thing you expect to walk into at a place with such a polished atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, the meals were good. The service and cocktails were great. But between the food not matching the price point and the bathroom/kitchen experience, the night didn't quite live up to what the atmosphere promised.
