Approximately ten locally-owned restaurants line the perimeter of the space, with a centralized bar and a billiards table in the back. We bought food from Smash City, Gringo Taco, and Nori; and beverages from the bar. Everything was fine, but the stand out was the service from the bar staff. If you want to stop by somewhere with multiple options, this is a good spot.

The food hall is fairly new and not all the stations are completely set up. That being said, they still had a great variety of things to choose from. Ranging from pizza, to tacos. to asian, to smoothies, they have something for just about anyones tastes! The hall itself is spacious and very clean. It has an industrial feel to it with dining hall sort of vibes. There are some really cute UF accents and decorations included as well. It wasn't too busy when we came, but they did have a DJ doing music. There were also several people enjoying the bar located in the center of the hall. The portions are decent sizes. Some of the stations portions are bigger than others. Which is nice because it allows you to sample and explore multiple things. I ended up starting at the Mexican station. They offered freshly prepared, customizable tacos, quesadillas, burritos, etc. I opted for a single taco, so I could try some of the other things offered. The tortillas are griddled with cheese in them, then topped with either chicken or shredded beef. You can choose from a nice selection of toppings including pico de galo, more cheese, lime juice, and an array of sauces. The taco had great flavor, but the cheese caused it to become "soggy" and fall apart. This made it particularly challenging to eat the taco. I then ventured onto the pizza station. They served focaccia styled square pizza with a thicker airy crust. It is almost reminiscent of a Sicilian styled pizza, but a little lighter. I opted for the pepperoni with hot honey added for an extra charge. The pizza was amazing! Served hot and fresh right out of the oven. The cupped pepperonis were heavenly and amply spread throughout the pizza. There was the perfect amount of hot honey to compliment to heat of the pepperonis. The cheese to sauce ratio was nice and the crust was chewy. It the perfect size for a personal pie or could easily be shared with a friend. I really enjoyed the pizza and liked the square style of it. Overall, I enjoyed the Gainesville Food Hall. They offer a nice variety of cuisines. It is family friendly and a great spot to grab a bite and hang out with friends. The space is clean and has an inviting feel about it. I really appreciate the idea of a food hall and think it is a great addition to Gainesville. Will be returning at some point in the future and cannot wait to try more!

I've been coming here since I was in undergrad at UF and they always knew stuff coming and going so there's always a variety of places to try. We tried Baba's Pizza which had a good $6 deal of a big slice of pizza and a drink. The Halal House was really GOOD though. It was very tasty, and had tons of options to customize your bowl.

I really don't expect gourmet food from a Maki of Japan in a mall. The portions are really great. I…read morealways find I have enough leftovers to make a separate meal. I recommend ordering the chicken since the chef tops your order with A LOT more meat than if you ordered other meats such as shrimp. Half and half is also an option if you can't choose between noodles or rice. There is room for improvement from what I've seen. The side vegetables are usually pretty cold since they sit on the (cold) stove for a while before being served. I vaguely remember that at other Maki of Japan's that the vegetables would at least be half heartedly fried up. The ordering system here can get confusing since they stick toothpicks (no names) to identify the different types of meat/sides for each order. This food court can get pretty busy at times so it's easy to lose track of which order is yours if you turn away even for a second. (I'm pretty sure the lady behind me in line mistakingly took my order..). The service is really average. When I came here a few months ago the chef was actually being kind of invasive and asking me lots of strange questions. He kept making comments to the point where I felt kind of uncomfortable at his advances and had to step away from the counter to hide at a table. He hasn't been there the more recent times I've been to Maki of Japan, however. All in all, an average Maki of Japan with very average (and sometimes creepy) service. There are better options in this food court if you're not craving teriyaki.
