Stopped in with a business associate for a few beers and a bite to eat, we arrived a little after 5:00 PM on a Tuesday and found the restaurant mostly empty. The hostess was very friendly and led us to a booth on the left side of the restaurant where we were greeted immediately by our server Jaiden she dropped off a few menus and a list of cocktails and beers then stepped away for a few minutes allowing us to make our decision. We ordered a few beers and gator taters for a starter - living in Florida one can appreciate really cold beer and this place has really really cold beer. The gator taters arrive after a few minute and we placed our meal choice. For some reason I thought the gator taters were potato skins so I was a little taken back when this bowl of casserole like potatoes arrived but I must admit they were delicious. We ordered fried chicken sliders and a philly cheese steak with crinkle fries. Some people like to make fun of Yelp, but this is why I trust Yelp's overall ratings over Google Maps overall ratings. As of today, this location is rated 4 out of 5 stars. When we pulled up to this location, I pulled out my phone to check in on Yelp and saw the 2.5 overall rating and adjusted my expectations. Even with that, this place was terrible. The menu sounds and looks so promising, but no one in our party of 4 was happy with the food. We met up with another couple that we hadn't seen in quite some time, so we were mostly there for the company, but wow, we all feel like we were robbed. We all got some version of boneless wings. I'm guessing the flavors could be great, but when the chicken is so overcooked, it doesn't matter. I can't express to you how badly the food was overcooked. The fries and the tator-tots had zero seasoning on them except maybe a tiny sprinkle of salt. So boring! My husband had a terrible stomach afterwards too. I had high hopes for this place. Have wanted to try this place and finally made it. Decided to sit on the covered patio. Was seated next to a woman who was smoking. Decided to eat inside since there was not a table to escape the smoker. The door locks to the patio so we had to have a server let us in. Was seating inside, which is decorated nicel and modern with several TVS and a bar. Took about 5-7 minutes until a server (Amy) asked for our drink order. That was about another 20 minutes until she brought the drinks and took our order. Then there was at least a 30-minute wait for the food. We've only visited this location one time due to the bad experience we had several months ago, which is unfortunate because we love gators.. When we were first seated, we noticed the two servers in our area arguing over who was going to get our small party of 2, and a larger party of 6. Our server eventually reluctantly came over to us and was not very attentive through our meal. We are always very laid-back, understanding and undemanding and always tip more than expected. However, they are not dependable sometimes they close earlier than the times advertised. The food is sometimes good but sometimes not cooked well. When I order I must give precise instructions on how to cook my food bc you never know how you may get it. Tonight I ordered the Gyro which comes with a side. I choose onion petals. It comes with a Cajun Bayou sauce. The Gyro came on a toasted pita bread and held together by 3 long toothpicks. That was nice and helped to hold it together so it wasn't too messy to eat!! Yay! This place is OK. I couldn't imagine myself giving a stellar review of a Gators unless I had incredible service and outstanding food but I know what I'm walking into when I come here. Service is always mediocre, mostly slow, and food is always just alright. Most of the time they do a good job with their wings and they will actually grill them for you (if they're busy, they'll flash fry them first) if you ask. I really like the Sweet Thai Chili and the Scooter sauces. Let me set the scene, the restaurant is dead and my girlfriend and I are going out for dinner and drinks because Sunday night football is on. The hostess waved us away and pretended to be too busy to talk to us as we waited at the door for about 5 minutes. When we were finally sat to eat our food and watch Sunday night football at the SPORTS BAR there was music playing instead of Sunday night football AT THE SPORTS BAR. As well as our waitress looked at us and said "what do you want" with a straight face and no smile. She then proceeded to try to take my valid 21+ ID to the bartender and when I gave her a secondary form of ID to cross reference she gave me a dirty look. Our appetizers were clearly frozen and reheated, and our wings were also frozen. One of our French fries were LITERALLY still frozen. And our server never checked to ask us how our food was except when she was finishing waiting on another table while we blatantly watched her chitchat with the bar tender the entire time we were there. $60 for some of the worst service and food quality I have ever had. read more

A week ago my husband, daughters & a couple that are close friends (7 of us) decided we wanted wings for dinner and to play a couple games of pool. We finally placed our order, when our food came out she then refilled our drinks. We had to keep reminding her we were missing fries, ranch and my daughters food. After we finished eating she brought my daughters food. She was more entertained by the men at the bar (apparently all the servers are with the regulars). I am a restaurant manager myself and know how much tips mean to a server. I explained to the server I was highly upset that she didn't care about us at the table, she could care less but I still left her a 20% tip on a $230 tab! We decided to give Gators Dockside another try last night. As soon as we walked in the server we had last time went to the hostess and told them not to seat us in her section. It was completely apparent that she was running her mouth the every employee on the floor about "what happened at our last visit" our server we had was ignorant and had a attitude the whole time like we shouldn't even be there. I bit my tongue! We ordered our food and they forgot my whole meal! The guy in the kitchen (curly hair with a hat) brought our food out and couldn't tell us what wings were which flavor as my family all ordered 10 wings each. They had to taste them to figure them out. Everyone else got their food except for me. The server thought it was quite funny. The manager came out trying to make my order (you can tell her was confused of the whole situation) my husband and daughters were super upset because they could see how the servers thought it was just funny to just be ignorant. No refills, no Togo boxes, didn't check on us anymore just brought the check and didn't say a word. Our server both times just wanted to sit at the bar & vape with the customers. No wonder why this place is basically empty, the service is HORRIBLE!!!!! I don't even know how they stay open!! We arrived as a party of 6 for the first time. We were met by our waitress who was very sweet and a great waitress but the kitchen staff should be fired. I ordered a gyro and even though it only took and hour to get everyone else was served in 45 minutes. I must say the gyro had to taste to the lamb which appears to be processed because no chef can cut perfect slices that resemble roast beef. We recently went to Gators Dockside for the first time, and based on the experience we will go again sometime. I started with the chili, which was excellent, probably the second best I have had since moving to this area. I ordered it with onions and cheese. I facilitated between a burger and the Philly cheesesteak. The server said the cheesesteak was awesome so I went with that. It was very good, the onions and peppers nice and tender, though I wouldn't say awesome exactly. I had onion petals with it, which were also excellent, a twist on traditional onion rings. My wife had baby back ribs, and since. We shared our meals a little, I can report that the ribs were cooked to perfection. She had her bbq sauce on the side which like the onion petals and the chili, had a bit of a kick to it, but not too much for me. I had lemonade with my meal, and didn't get around to having a refill, so she offered to send a takeout cup with me, which was great. The cole slaw with my wife's meal was good, with its own twist of having cranberries in it. The French fries were, well, French fries, okay but not awesome. The only negative of the meal was our sitting at a booth near the door to the outdoor seating. A cold breeze blew in every time employees went out there to smoke, and they brought a wisp of cigarette smoke back in with them when they came back. I found myself hoping the smokers weren't cooks, but it is possible I suppose. The serve offered to move us,but it seemed like too much trouble at that point. We let her know we were first time guests as soon as we sat down. She looked at us as a table that she thought wouldn't give her a good tip, so we received bad service. This place has two big signs on their front doors stating that due to the Affordable Health Care Act they will be sticking it to their customers by adding a 1% surcharge to your bill. #1 Way to repel your customers before they walk through the door. #2 This is just a hacked off Republican owner who did not get his way and he is taking it out on his customers. Do not flaunt your political agenda to your customers. #3 NOT LOGICAL THINKING!!! This is a government tax. Why don't they put up a big sign about the FICA tax or Medicare tax on their employees paycheck?? #4 Gators Dockside SHOULD be giving their full time employees health insurance anyway. I love their wings and the staff is great, but this kind of nonsense will keep me away from Gator's Dockside and take my business elsewhere. Their website says: "The costs associated with ACA compliance could ultimately close our doors." #1 If Gator's Dockside is going to wine about this, then show it's customers what their REAL "financial impact" is on their business. How did it's owner come up with the 1% surcharge? Show me the money. #2 If Gator's Dockside would have been treating their full-time employees better to begin with this would be a non-issue.
