Crab & chicken Pepper soup was amazing, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in search of authentic cuisine!!!!

As a regular, the quality has gone down. Unsure if they changed the kitchen staff or what...but the French onion soup for $9 was oil broth, with some un-caramelized onions, and completely unseasoned. Our sandwiches were...trash...which is quite sad since we've been local returning customers because we love them. Our fries were unseasoned. Not even a pinch of salt. Or like...anything? I talked to the bar tender and they said the staff hasn't changed. Find that very sad and shocking. The brunch we had the Sunday prior was also the worst. Which is also sad since we've come weekly for brunch. We're taking a break. Also feel like people should be aware that they might want to ask for some type of seasoning and meat that's actually cooked. read more

Cool place set inside of an old church. The pews serve as seats. The choir area is still inside. Cool church, industrial vibe. Service was excellent. Noelle, our waitress, was friendly and helpful with the drink and food menu. She told us her faves and they did not disappoint. The cocktails were interesting and tasty. The apps were outstanding. We had the Wit fries, which consisted of shaved kielbasi over crispy fries with Cooper Sharp cheese sauce. The broccoli rabe and pepper fries were unexpectedly spicy but really full of flavor. The Italiano wings were fried to perfection with fried cherry peppers. Simply delish. The fig grilled cheese and soup combo was a hit as well. The ultimate sandwich, the Witowski, a shaved kielbasi cheesesteak hit all the right notes. They also have a brunch that starts at 8am on the weekend. WAY too loud to have a regular conversation with a friend. Early on a Friday night, not nearly packed, it was impossible to talk over loud music and noise. We moved from the bar area to the side room....still way too loud. Staff was friendly! MY e we will try it mid day and see if it's more tolerable. read more

Stopped by after the playground to grab something to go for me and my son. Amazingly friendly staff who gave my son some crayons and paper to draw while we waited. Gaul & Co encapsulates Philadelphia culture and cuisine perfectly. It was converted from an old church and still many of the architecture features are still present. It is a massive space with plenty of seating and offering great bar food. The food was fantastic I got their famous sandwich the wit or witochzki which is their take on a philly cheesesteak. It is also served with their fries which are fantastic and known for that as well. This is a great bar for a bar like atmosphere that serves great drinks and food with the staff being friendly and offering great service. read more

After having a hard time finding a place to eat on a Friday night due to long wait times, we stopped in here. It is a little divey. The dj was playing loud music and there is a stage, so I wonder if they do karaoke. Anyway, portions were big and prices were alright. The menu is what you would expect for a place like this. I had a pretty good grilled cheese with onion jam. It tasted like they put onions from their french onion soup in it. It was tasty. It came with tomato soup that was ok. Great location in Port Richmond. The old church and pews for booths is fun. The tables are cozy with the green desk lamps. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed our food. The scrapple fries are a must try! I loved them with the cheese sauce. Mozzarella triangles were delicious. The Witorwitowski was thoroughly enjoyed and kept the diner full for the rest of the day! My only disappointment was the fries. They were hot but limp and I had hoped for crunchy fries. read more

Donna is a great bartender who cares about her customers and their needs, let's start there! This place is huge with a very diverse menu of both food and drinks. They have no cheesesteak so understand that as well. But what they do have, however, is Kielbasa that's minced up to mimic a cheesesteak. Look, I was a doubter too! You must try it as it's delicious and oddly delicate. The cheese sauce is not overpowering but adds a creaminess to the sandwich. I can't eat that big a sandwich so went for the kids cheeseburger, which was very fresh, not frozen and very juicy. They have plenty of TVs, lots of drink specials from their full bar and arcade games as well as basketball and skeeball. It can get loud in there when all the games are being played but rest assured, there's a back room for those of you who don't want to deal with the noise. read more

We came to the new location the week it opened. They hadn't updated the info on yelp so I didn't post a review then. We were seated right away. I like the feel of it-in an old church basement, exposed stone walls, exposed pipes, etc. The thing is the acoustics were horrible. It was SO loud you couldn't even have a conversation with the person you were with. We ordered a bunch of goodies and the food was great but it took a while for food or drinks to be served or followed up on. We understood they were all getting used to the new location so we didn't say anything. We like their food and drink selection. We'll be back I just hope some things have been addressed since the opening. read more

I came here for the Shaved Kielbasa Cheese Steak, the "Wit or Witowski." The bread was soft and chewy, good. The sandwich was overloaded with very thinly sliced kielbasa. And the cheese wasn't particularly memorable. This was a good sandwich, although a few things hold it back from glory: 1) Like it's beef cousin, it lacks acid and any herb/spice complexity. This makes it a bit of a bore after the first ten or fifteen bites. It could use a bit of crunch and some acid. 2) One of the things I love about kielbasa is it's body/texture. Slicing it this thins takes that away. It leaves you with something a bit more like bologna. Nevertheless, this was tasty and I'd eat it again. read more

super random place. came on NYE for dinner - didn't know they'd have live entertainment, the comedians we not good lol the building is so pretty inside. the food was awesome and the bartender, even though she was busy - was on top of things. i got the buffalo califlower and a house salad. the califlower was crunchy and had good flavor. the salad was super good, i loved the croutons and balsamic dressing. drinks are cheap as hell here. will return on a weekday to try more food ! read more

What a interesting afternoon experience. Situated in a repurposed church blessed by a nice neighborhood, how could things get better at the Malthouse? Holy cow, the food. Our taste buds would worship The Wit or Witkowski along with cheesy Mac balls made better by the short wait. During this time we engaged in delightful conversation on the Guy Fieri Triple D experience with a pleasant young lady and learned alot about the sorroundings.. I the food here is consistently good, but the new location is a major downgrade. The old neighborhood bar is now an echoey, loud church basement. When we visited, we ordered a bunch of appetizers and entrees. It seemed like the kitchen was still working out some kinks as we waited a long while for everyone's entrees to arrive. Everything was also a bit under seasoned. Odd because everything at the old location was always delicious. There was a live singer the evening we visited and my gosh it was extremely loud. I couldn't hear anyone speak at my table and we just ended up eating as fast as we can and packed up the rest to finish at home. read more

Atmosphere - I guess they moved recently.  Looks like Yelp kept the same page for the old location and new location as one.  There was no dining upstairs.  Just the bar downstairs.  There is plenty of space. Food Beer - Tröegs Brewing Company's Perpetual IPA from a bottle. Lunch - I had go with what Guy ate on Triple D, the Wit or Witowski which looked amazing.  There was a lot of meat in the Chipped Kielbasa "Philly Cheesesteak".  There was a ton of meat but it was bland.  The French fries were on the cold side. Service - I sat at the bar.  One other person at the other end, and two tables both already eating their lunch.  Placed my order fairly quickly.  I understand the bartender has prep work but she would disappear for long stretches.  After a bit a person came down and asked the other guy if he had ordered food, then they checked with me.  We both did.  She then asked what I had order.  So basically I just place my order twice.  My food finally arrived.  I had half of my sandwich done before the bartender showed up and provided napkins and utensils.  Minutes later I received condiments, which I could have grabbed on my own, but did not need any.  Took some time to settle my bill too, glad I was not in a rush to get to the airport before heading home. This place turned out to be awesome to bring my 4 year old to. They had a nice kids meal and his burger was great. I ordered a pizza and kid loved that too. Waiters were great and they even had a kids cup and crayons. Kids drawing is on the fridge. Thanks for being awesome read more

Our server Maddie was extremely attentive and made sure we were set up with a new drink and food. She checked in on us a lot which is so refreshing, especially during an eagles game When it's usually hard to get anyone's attention . Request Maddie if to come here. where do I even begin? me and my friends were in a state of shock by how awful the service was. whoever the bartender was tonight, my heart goes out to you. who is god's name is doing the hiring? you guys fell off when you closed the gaul street location. that location was a GEM, I had the best times ever there and always the best service. this place is a mess. also, let me remind you, this is my FIRST time ever writing a review for a restaurant, that's how awful it was. while our server was forgetting to put our orders in, she was either dancing with the other server, drinking, sitting at a booth with a bunch of guys, or sitting at the bar. when I tell you this was the worst experience I've ever had in my entire life, I mean it. my friends waited 15 minutes for 2 gaul teas and a diet coke, just to start. (that's not even an over exaggeration like most people write on reviews) I asked for a water twice when I first got there, the third time stuck and I finally got it. I knew my food had been forgotten because I had been waiting so long. I approached the bartender because there was no way I was going to throw another task at our server. I was right, it wasn't rang in. He asked what I ordered and rang it in for me. me and my friends were just getting together during the storm to have some drinks, obviously most places are closed. I am sooooo understanding. I feel like I need to say I work in the industry because we don't ever write bad reviews, but this is merited. there was nooooo excuse for the horrible service. it was not busy. the servers had time to dance and drink and sit with their friends. second time I asked for a water refill I only had to ask twice so, that was better. Also, get your server away from the guiness keg or please show her how to pour one. the amount of beers you could have made money off of went down the drain. then in the middle of us chatting and eating, the entire dining room lights went completely out. turned off. I thought it was an accident and they were going to come back on but it wasn't, they weren't dimmed, they were off. we sat in the dark and continued to just watch this atrocity happening before our eyes. we were speechless. then we decided to wrap it up and go home. we def would have stayed longer if it didn't go the way it did. listen, if a bar/restaurant is slammed and short staffed during a snow storm or busy situation, I have NO complaints ever, I get it, completely. there were only 3 tables, including us. I've never in my life seen anything like it. I live 2 blocks away and I gave this place another chance after some bad experiences in the past. (and it was just the closest open spot during the storm) but never, ever again. everyone who was in there got the same service as us. (it was NOT Madison, shes the best!) Either go back to the old spot and get better staff, or just close up shop, you're done. there's no saving that place. read more

Of course we saw this joint on Diners, Drive-ins and Dines so we took a day trip from NJ just to try the Wit or Witowski which was delicious!!! However I can say that without a doubt, they also had the most delicious, perfectly crispy chicken wings- (drooling thinking about them). I love that they are in an old church! Great happy hour prices. My only complaint is the seating...comfort speaking. The bar seats are super soft which is great. The service is always good and the chicken wings might be the best I have ever eaten. Lots more room since they moved from their original location on Gaul Street to the old church. Their Wit or Witoutski is their "featured" sandwich and it's okay, but their Burger or Italian Cutlet sandwich is the bomb dot com. We were in the area and this place was on our bucket list, so we HAD to stop. With covid restrictions we weren't sure if they would be open for indoor dining, but we lucked out. Tables were spaced, staff had masks and distanced. Very friendly bartender waiting on us. Great beer selection. But the reason we came...the Wit or Witowski! A shaved kielbasa sandwich with a cooper sharp cheese sauce! Oh my! I love kielbasa and I love the snap of a good one, but there is something about it being shaved and covered in cheese that makes this place worth your while. We also ordered the parmesan garlic cauliflower, which was excellent. Kids split a burger and Mac and cheese, really really good portions and burger/mac. Kids crushed it. The fries by the way are dynamite! You need to get over and check them out if you haven't already. Yum! read more

They have good lunch specials during the week. The decor is kinda funky. Maybe a lil scary for kids with the giant Michael Meyers statue, but overall, can't beat the prices and the flavors are solid! Usually quiet during lunch so you can get in and out. read more
