The decor, the atmosphere, the dart boards, the beers, and of course the food. No one is going to claim that the English are the best cooks, but these guys can sure as hell fry up some fish. Love this place! This is one of my regular go-to places for a reason. The service is always good and the food is consistent. There are a few things that need improvement but for the most part they are spot on. Pros: Amazing fried cod, tilapia, shrimp and oysters, $.75 PBR during happy hour, love the clam chowder, delicious shepherd pie and meat pies and the bangers with the caramelized onions and mustard sauce are to die for. Oh, and the fried pickles! You have to try the fried pickles. Cons: chips (french fries) are underseasoned and generic like they came out of a frozen bag, mashed potatoes are bland and lack butter/salt/pepper and its a little on the pricey side to eat there. All in all I love this place and will continue to frequent it. I would like them to step up their game on the chips and mash but that's not going to keep me away. As a English ex-pat living in Denver, I was craving some fish & chips BAD. GB Fish & Chips hit the spot. Whilst they aren't totally authentic, I have to say my cod & chips was pretty good. The fish was better than the chips, the cod was so crispy and flaky and came with a little side or tartare sauce. The chips tasted similar to many other American diners here, but were still good, just definitely not authentic. I'll be back though! read more

A very nice fish-n-chip shop. I understand that they have other locations in Denver as well. I have lived in England for four years. I have yet to find authentic fish-n-chips in the United States. This place is no exception. In other words, despite the fact that it is called "GB" (Great Britain) Fish & Chips, their food is far from the real thing. However, even thought not authentically British, the food is cooked nicely and tasty. The price is very reasonable and the atmosphere is comfortable. Would I eat their again? Certainly. I really like this location compared to the one on Broadway. $1 Tilapia Tuesdays are great for a quick dinner: I usually get 4 pieces and fries to share and it comes out to $6-something. We eat there every other week or so. We get the half cod combo--that is a full meal; three pieces of cod is all I can eat--and it's $10 per. That includes a drink. I love the food! Only thing that sucks is waiting at the bar 6min until someone comes up to you, request a PBR, get I.D'd, and wait another 5min for the beverage. In which the server states she "spaced out". Another 15min until she notices you again.... that is when you ask for food. With only 5 customers in the place. This place would be so-so to go for drinks, but do NOT bring your dog here. The description on Find Fido made this place sound like there was a nice fenced in play area and dogs were accepted. First the fence would not keep any dog from escaping. Second their play area is for children. The tables are awful for trying to keep your dog untangled and in eye sight. There was greasy food all over the concrete outside. And you can only order by going inside. read more

One of the first places I had to try out when I moved into the neighborhood last year. OK decor for the interior - the patio is great with another view of Downtown Denver beyond Sloan's Lake which never gets old during a sunny Colorado day's sunset. Inside-Sit at the bar if you are solo or with one other person. This location is not too big and can fill up- so if you have a larger group maybe consider calling ahead or eating early at least. As you will see in other people's photos-they have numerous Football (Soccer) jerseys hanging from the ceiling. You do realize you are in a strip mall- but they still have made an effort to entertain. Good TV's with Soccer playing is a plus. Cheap beers during Happy Hour As for the food and service- its a low key walk up and pay kinda place. Order a half size for the Fish and chips-- unless you are really hungry! In an effort to support our local restaurants we decided to try GB Fish & Chips. To say we are pleased with our selection is an understatement. Our food arrived fairly quickly and was still hot! Something I've found lacking with other delivery providers. I believe the prices are reasonable and our food was terrific. I only ordered us each a half meal which neither one of us finished simply because we were stuffed. And when my 15 year old grandson stops eating because he's full, let's just say it's a rare occurrence. We will definitely make this restaurant a favorite. read more

Finally made it to the West-side location and even though it's brand-spanking new, it's not charmless. The view of Sloan's Lake is phenomenal (yeah, you've got Sheridan traffic cutting across the horizon but just beyond that is the lake and Downtown). On this visit, I only had beer (75¢ PBR -- no, I'm not a skinny jeans hipster, but I'm cheap and can't resist a bargain) and curry chips. The curry is really gravy-like, and at first doesn't seem to have any heat, but carry on, that gravy has a little bit of a kick. It's nice. My friend had the half order of cod and I was salivating (hence, curry chips). I'm not sure if the Broadway location has it, but the Sheridan restaurant has deep-friend Twinkies! It seems odd to me to eat fish and chips in the middle of the country, but I can't deny that they're delicious! I've enjoyed fish and chips up and down the West Coast and in England, so I have pretty high standards, but GB Fish & Chips is still some of the best I've had. The fish is always flaky and hot and never tastes too "fishy," and the batter isn't too heavy and gets nice and crispy in the fryer. Best of all, they must change their frying oil frequently, because I've never run into that old oil taste that can really ruin a good piece of fish. Really, my only complaints are that they don't have halibut (although, maybe that's asking too much of Colorado) and that the fries are just average. They aren't bad, by any means, but placing them next to such exceptional fish really raises my standards. read more

Compared to a London street vender serving fish and chips out of a rolled up London Times, Guardian or Sun, GB is way better and a lot less greasy. Sit outside on the patio overlooking Sheridan Blvd and Sloans Lake and you may even think you're in London. If that doesn't do it then the prices will definitely make you feel like you're in London. A combo hal, a kids cod and small drink was $18. Wow! $12 would have made it more palpable. As far as the fish and chips are concerned, I think the best you'll find any where in Denver, so far. The batter was light and not at all greasy. The cod and tilapia were ho hum but the prawn, squid and scallops were a nice departure from the typical "fish". All I missed was having all served up in a Denver Post. I definitely suggest trying GB Fish & Chips at least once and then you make the call for repeat visits. Our group got cod, squid, bangers, a chicken curry pastie and a chicken and mushroom meat pie with the clam chowder and an English Toffee "shake". The fish was perfectly fried and the chips were normal steak fries. The bangers had a sauce that was said to not really enhance the dish. The chicken curry pastie had very little chicken but had a flavorful curry sauce and a flaky crust. The chicken and mushroom meat pie had dry chicken and the crust had absorbed all of the sauce, so it was dry. The clam chowder was just ok. The "shake" was more like a slightly thickened flavored milk. The guy at the counter did a horrible job of explaining the difference between a pastie and a meat pie. I'm not a big fish and chip guy, this is because I order them at stupid fake Irish pubs. Litterally everytime I order fish and chips somewhere, I immediatly regret it. This place left me with no regrets, aside from gluttony. It's about ten bucks for a half order, and twas delicious. I acutally had it for two meals. I absolutely love GB fish and chips Edgewater, it is a lot more convenient that the Colfax location and it is near work. I would say I have lately been on a seafood kick and this is my to go spot for fast and safe seafood. Staff is always friendly and the fish the portions are just fair (With the exception of the scallops). Although I stopped by today and I purchased half a combination with just fish with an extra cod. I paid for my order, came back to work only to realize that my order was wrong and the portions were out of whack. - The scallops were huge !!! YAY!!! - The tilapia and the cod were relatively small compared to all previous times. I was upset, I love my fish. - And the extra cod I ordered and the tarter sauce were missing. I really do LOVE GB Fish and Chips, the fish is always cooked great, but this time I was very upset. That sad part is that I would normally go to the staff and inform them of the mistake on meal (at least the missing cod, but since my order was a take out there is no point. This morning there was a story on Sunday Morning about Britons and their love for Fish & Chips, and thanks to that seed being planted by the time my wife and I were ready to head out to do some grocery shopping we were in the mood for Fish & Chips. That's what lead us to GB Fish & Chips, really. It's a nice place, although I'd worry a bit about room during the winter - there weren't a lot of tables inside, although they had signs suggesting that folks share tables up - outside there's a fair amount more space, so that's good. The place was well lit - lots of windows to let in the sunlight - and nicely clean. The food is mostly fried seafood of some sort, although they also listed Bangers (a sort of sausage) and Shepherd's pie. They have Cod, Tilapia, Prawns, Squid, and Scallops. I wasn't sure what to get, so the counter girl suggested a combo - basically one of everything but two of the Scallops. My wife and I each got it, and enjoyed it. The bad side is the Scallops. They're pretty small, and with all the breading on them it's about 50% breading and 50% scallops, which doesn't really work. My wife removed her second scallop from the dough, and said that was pretty tasty, but I'd avoid the scallops in the future. The good side is the Prawn, which was very tasty, and the Squid, which wasn't chewy at all and had a nice flavor. Another good point is the Cocktail sauce they give you, which is also very well made and enhanced the taste of the fish. (The Tilapia and the Cod tasted fine, but weren't standouts like the Prawn and Squid.) The 'Chips' were alright - a little undercooked, I thought, but also a little too much to eat after all the other fried stuff. I think in the future when we go by we might get one half without a side, and another half with chips, and split them evenly. read more

Based on good reviews and a deep love for fish and chips, we tried this place last Sunday afternoon. We got the full order of Cod. Pretty disappointed that it didn't come with the fries. They must be hard up for money to charge extra to get the fries. And the fries are not good. A lot of stale, end pieces in there and no seasoning. They seem a tad stingy about their tartar sauce. Can't understand why, when something that costs so little can make such a happy customer. My husband and I split a six piece beer battered cod order and it was delicious. I mean, really really scrumptious fresh fish. Yumm! The only thing was they only put two tiny cups of tartar with it. I asked for more and they gave us 4 more and we were happy. But still, I got a little worried when I saw various sizes of tartar sauce containers with prices at the register. I thought they were going to charge extra for more tartar. But thankfully the extras were free. So to sum up, the fish was the best we've had in Colorado thus far, so I would recommend this place for that alone. And the outdoor seating with views of Lake Sloan and the Denver skyline are pretty wonderful, too. Note to GB Fish & Chips -- please consider including the chips with the fish orders! read more
