If you haven't tried this place yet you are missing out. I have never had a bad meal here in 5 years since I found it. The fish and chips are amazing, always hot and fresh. The prawns and scallops are equally delicious. They also have amazing clam chowder (a family favorite), sausage rolls, meat pies, and Sheppards pie. You can't go wrong with anything you choose. The atmosphere is laid back and fun. Lots and lots of football - soccer to us Americans. They have four locations but the Sloan's Lake location is my favorite. Fish & chips ARE yummy here. But really, you get a quarter-sized tartar with your meal, and then are forced to pay $1.00 for a huge size of tartar sauce if you want more. This cup is so large even the biggest tartar fan wouldn't use that much, could easily be shared by two people (and was the case with our party as Rachel shared with her hubby). There has to be some middle ground here, I understand not wanting to give stuff away for free - but give people a larger one WITH their meals or sell a little smaller one for 50 cents or something... So I'm in love with fish & chips and will most likely return here, but I might just have to go for take out, as the decor and beer selection is Meh (some people do like to drink beer other than PBR - which is only $1.50/can there btw), and I then I can drench my crunchy cod in all the store bought tartar in my fridge at home! Hooray! It seems as though this place has finally hit its stride, as we had a stellar hangover lunch today at GB's while watching wakeboarders freak out the pelicans floating on Sloans Lake across the street. Today the owner was on-site, which may have had something to do with our great experience, but I'm hoping that it just took about three months for this location to get its act together and that the good service and food will continue. New woman behind the counter was much more efficient and helpful than the last. We asked for - and they gave us - an extra little cup of tartar sauce with our cod orders (although you can still order a larger container for $1) Also, asked for - and received- extra crispy chips, which made all the difference in the world. I think they have also cranked up the temp of the chip oil, so they were not greasy at all. Everything was outstanding - the kitchen was hopping, folks were enjoying the Monday holiday, and it seems that the World Cup frenzy was showering this place with happy vibes. I heard about this place a while back and decided to try it out. I drove 45 minutes from Boulder to this location. What a waste of gas. And money. I got a full order of the cod and chips. The fried fish was overdone and very greasy. Fish inside was okay but overall I got nauseous after finishing one piece. The fries are some of the worst I've ever had at a restaurant. They were very bland and GB makes no effort to give their customers good quality fries. Microwave fries from Costco taste better. Tartar sauce is decent. You get a tinny bit with your order but are then forced to shell out a dollar for more. Never going back. I was burping fish and chips all day. Half of it went in the trash. The food is absolutely delicious. There's no doubt about that. I usually get the 1/2 cod meal (3 pc) w/ chips, and a side of curry sauce. One thing I can't wrap my head around is the price. $12 for 3 pieces of fish, a very small portion of fries, and about a cup of curry sauce is absolutely ridiculous. Hence the 4 star review. I only go here about once every 2 months due to the price. If they would lower their price a little I would go there a lot more than I do now, and they would probably make a larger profit from me. Call me crazy but this place is just not that good. It's all just hype to me. Don't get me wrong. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. But the prices for the food. Come on. 20.00 for two people is pretty typical I'd say. But you don't get what you pay for here. I'd rather go to Long John Silvers and at least get some hush puppies. I got the combo meal, so I got to sample a bit of everything. It all tasted the same.....the batter, was good but again you don't get what you pay for. I was a bit disappointed after reading so many positive reviews. First off they got my order wrong, ordered the Combination and they gave me the Fish & Chips. My bf went up and got it corrected, but first impressions! This meal was so greasy I just could not eat it. I tried, but ended up passing it over to my bf to finish because it was bothering my stomach with all the grease. The pieces of cod that I had were, I'm guessing, the tail end because it was so flat, nothing like the cod I'm use to eating back in Florida and New England. The scallops were ever so small, but the squid was good if you took the breading off so it wasn't so greasy and the prawn was the same, good without all the greasy breading. Sadly, this place did not win me over and we will not go back. I actually like the Fish and Chips more at Red Robin due to the nice big white flakiness and less grease of their fish. read more

What can I say its a typical yet another Colorado let down. Lets start with the batter greasy as the unfiltered fryer that is in the kitchen. Nothing made in house all frozen bought in which you can get at your local super market. Frozen fries, coleslaw pre made, as well as the tarter. Ketchup is cheap brand. Really, really good food - but was less than impressed with the service. I'd been dying to try this place for quite some time. Today turned out to be one of those high stress, don't get to eat until 3:00 in the afternoon and have a migraine coming on, I just need to treat myself kind of days. So...I went in. The cashier made me feel awkward when I had trouble finding my billfold - in an new purse. I got the vibe that I was being annoying when I asked a question, etc. And, to top it off I walked through the door leading to the patio instead of the exit door. I already felt like a big dork, but felt even worse when I swear I heard people - staff/customers, I assume, - laughing at me behind my back and saying I must be drunk. Seriously? Holy Mother o' Fish! I just got a half order of the Tilapia to go and it was AMAZING. I am from Alaska and grew up with fresh halibut daily, if I wanted it. In the past my desire for fish n chips has mostly been based on this desire for baseness and machismo. Because how they ended up tasting was usually a let-down. When biting into the battered fish I could predictably depend on encountering two completely separate levels of texture. One texture for the batter. Crispy. And one for the fish. slightly tough. Always tougher than I was hoping for. But at GB Fish n Chips there was only one uniform sensation. Crispy, tender yumminess with the slight hint of fish scent roaming up through my nasal conchae. I've lived in the UK and i've lived in New Zealand. But I'm most pleased with what I've found here on Colfax. As a side. I'd give anything for them to start using real potatoes for their fries. I love it when good new restaurants open in the neighborhood. I love it even more when they keep doing good business. The fish n chips are delicious, we often get the combo plate, with scallops and shrimp, and are never disappointed. The service is always friendly which makes up for the slightly high prices. So happy that GB Fish & Chips followed us to the neighborhood! When the weather warms up I can totally picture grabbing some battered goodness to go and having a picnic by the lake. The fry cooks here are just as good as in the original location, so the same delicious calamari and friends are here too. The space is much nicer though, with the wall of windows looking out onto the park and city skyline. We try our best to convince them they made the right choice setting up shop here by eating there often, but I don't think they need convincing. Quite good! I tried the fried cod and chips. The chips were disappointing, being that they were previously frozen, but the fish itself was super tasty. Maybe a little greasy (as per my husband), but really quite delicious. I definitely want to go again. This location is situated right across from the lake; we sat at a table and watched the water as we waited for our food. The decor itself was kind of sterile and I expect the place generally is probably a little cramped at happy hour --- but all things considered, it was fine. Food is good, not gonna lie; but the staff is disorganized and rude. The last two times I went I've had negative interactions with the staff. The last was appalling. To make the situation worse their was no manager on site to help remedy the situation, which was an order was placed online, money was exchanged and then the restaurant "never received the order" and had no way of paying me back. I have really been into fish and chips lately. GB's offers a quality meal with a great view of Sloans and a good selection of beer. I love that I can substitute the "chips" for a variety of things. I have tried their mashed potatoes, cole slaw, and chips. All were really good. You can also choose between cod and tilapia if you are getting the fish. I have had both, but I think the tilapia is my favorite. I have also tried their bangers and mash. These were ok. I will definitely stick to the fish! read more

Just as good as the other location, which I have frequented many times. Nice part about this new location is the size... much bigger! I would say about twice the size? Fish is tasty and not too greasy. Fries are great. Staff is wonderful. My only real complaint is the beer selection... too limited. Additionally, the tartar sauce is a bit skimpy, but I made due with what was provided... probably a good thing after all that fried food to limit the mayo! I see that they are now serving soda in compostable cups, but there is no can to throw them into that will esure they will be composted. They should do that, in addition to the recycling they already do. read more

My boyfriend and I recently tried this place because we moved to the area and its safe to say we will be back quite often. The Cod Fish and Chips were to die for and cooked to perfection. Most places I have to ask for my fish extra crispy (hate having to ask it should come this way) and I forgot to here and they came out perfect! The fish is very flavorful and the tartar sauce is super tasty as well. Sat at the bar and watched soccer my whole meal, which is a huge bonus for me and every worker we encountered was super friendly and accomodating to see if we needed anything else. I raved about the location on Broadway and after having eaten three times at the Sloan's Lake restaurant, I'm solidly hooked: I'm not looking anywhere else for F&C. A week ago I got the sampler, so I could try everything. In addition to the cod, I am also a fan of their Calamari. Scallops seemed really tiny, buried in a fluffy ball of batter. Shrimp seemed skinny and small. But back to the Calamari: juicy, tender, not at all overcooked or rubbery, and flavorful in their trademark sent-from-the-gods batter. Figured out the perfect way to reheat leftovers: DON'T! Eat it all while it's fresh and hot. read more

Any place selling fish and chips and with a Union Jack in their logo better bring it. GB's in Edgewater does, but at a price. While they sell other things I go here for, yep, you guessed it, fish and chips. And what they serve is some of the best I've had in many years. Price wise, they must have their currency conversion rates messed up as they're trying to charge a bit much for what you get. But after the sting of signing the debit card receipt is done and you set down at a table and take a bite you kinda forget all about it. If the patio is open, I definitely recommend sitting outside. The view of Sloan's Lake with the Denver skyline behind it truly is a sight to behold. But while I like the patio my best experience came on a day when it was snowing so hard you couldn't even see the lake across Sheridan. The food was hot, fresh, and it made me completely forget about the snowstorm raging outside. 4 Stars: I'll put them on my Best of Denver list, but they lose a star due to their pricing. read more

What I had? Fish (cod) and chips and curry :-) Food review: So this was my first try at this particular GB location. Can't say there was much of a difference with the exception of the curry. The fish was tasty as usual. Definitely my favorite fried fish in town. My favorite item to get here, however, is the chips and curry. The curry is simply an excellent "condiment" for the chips. My only gripe with it all is that the curry seemed a little "thin" in consistency. From what I remember, I think the Broadway location's curry is a bit thicker and thus "sticks" on the chips a bit better. It was minor complaint, however, and still a very delicious meal. Service? No complaints Other thoughts: Although the curry wasn't the same, the view is certainly better here being across the street from Sloans. read more

This place has CRAZY good fish n chips. They have cod, prawns, squid, pollock, tilapia and several other types. The batter is amazing (not too doughy, not too thin), and they cook it to crispy, golden perfection. The tartar sauce is like crack - I don't know what they do to it, but it is glorious. They also have a decent beer selection and number of other food choices that you might find in an English pub (bangers, meat pies, pasties)...but I haven't been able to get past the fish and chips. And, kids eat free on Sundays! I've had fish n chips all over the world...and this is some of the best. Who knew? read more

The decor, the atmosphere, the dart boards, the beers, and of course the food. No one is going to claim that the English are the best cooks, but these guys can sure as hell fry up some fish. Love this place! This is one of my regular go-to places for a reason. The service is always good and the food is consistent. There are a few things that need improvement but for the most part they are spot on. Pros: Amazing fried cod, tilapia, shrimp and oysters, $.75 PBR during happy hour, love the clam chowder, delicious shepherd pie and meat pies and the bangers with the caramelized onions and mustard sauce are to die for. Oh, and the fried pickles! You have to try the fried pickles. Cons: chips (french fries) are underseasoned and generic like they came out of a frozen bag, mashed potatoes are bland and lack butter/salt/pepper and its a little on the pricey side to eat there.
