The three of us really enjoyed our at-home dinner of fried cod and chips, fried squid (amazing how tender it is), two pasties, and a sausage roll. I preferred the curry pasty and its tangy curry sauce to dip, but the Cornish pasty was definitely good too. I felt the sausage in the sausage roll was too bland, but my son and brother liked it. The fried fish and squid stayed nice and crisp despite the drive home, and even the refrigerated leftovers were crispy the next day. That's a big plus. GB is skimpy with the malt vinegar, so if that's what you like you may want to order extra. However, this fish is good enough without anything. The chips are what we would call steak fries, and they're very good. The tartar sauce, brown sauce, and hot mustard were all fine. Was craving some fish 'n chips, but I wanted something different from LJS or Captain D's. Some searching on Yelp led me to GB which was on the way to work. I got the half order of fish, chips (fries), and coleslaw. The portions were more than enough. The cook forgot to make my fries, so he quickly prepared some and threw in extra fries and curry as a bonus. The fish was light, crispy, and delicious. The batter wasn't too heavy on it. However, something seemed to be off with the coleslaw. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it seemed there was not enough dressing to go with the cabbage. The big downside, in my opinion: The amount of tartar sauce you get is the same size as the condiment cups at Arby's. I didn't feel like waiting in line for more, so I had to live with the malt vinegar. The employees seemed to be enjoying the busy environment. The hand-cut fries likewise are always piping hot, crispy and golden-brown the exact way i like 'em, and they obviously change the oil daily. We've been to the Broadway location many many times, so I wasn't expecting to be surprised. The location itself was strikingly different because it sits across from Sloan's Lake. We got there at sunset (cuz we're old) and sat on the patio in November (cuz it's Colorado, duh). The inside was also different. Instead of feeling like you're in a dark, English pub, it's a little brighter and more open than the other location. Like always, we ordered too much so my hubby has lunch the next day. We had the cod, shrimp, Clam Chowder and Shepherds Pie. It was the first time I'd tried the Pie and couldn't recommend it more. Packed full of flavor! I stopped in here for a quick lunch during a workday and it was super fast dollar tilapia Tuesday and the most beautiful view of the Denver skyline across Sloans lake! Stick with the original location on Broadway. I had a Living Social coupon and for some reason it could only be used at the Edgewater location. So I decided to enjoy fish and chips and look out on the lake. I'm glad there was a patio table, because the inside of this location feels very cramped, and the way the football shirts are draping down from hangers makes it feel even more cramped. The patio is very nice, but it can only be used a few months of the year. The food is just as tasty and I'd put that at 4 stars. I'm always surprised when I read reviews or hear people talk about the food at GB. I'm not sure what everyone is expecting from a chippy! The issues seem to be about price, portion and the chips (fries). The price seems to be appropriate for the fish they are serving, and I also don't see anything wrong with the portion, I think the half portion is more than enough, and the normal portion in most chippies abroad. It's actually a proper serving of fish, about 3-4oz and the fries are ample... That leads me to the next issue I've read for both locations, the fries. Yeah they're frozen. Again, not sure what everyone expects! I can tell you that most chippies save the fancy ones in the Borough Market in London perhaps, are using frozen fries. About my only two gripes with GB is that they don't offer mushy peas and they don't have a Celtic F.C. shirt up at either location...what's up with that?!
