I used to love this place and when they opened up a location closer to me I was thrilled! Unfortunately this place has either gone downhill. Got the combo for $15.50. First off the scallops were tiny, the batter shell was over fried and hard on all of them. I had a hard time even FINDING the scallops at all, they were as small as my pinky nail. The rest of the fish fell away from the shell, I ended up just eating the fish that fell out. The only thing that was fried okay was the Tilapia, which was decent. For this price I expect good quality fried fish and CHIPS TO GO WITH IT. Perhaps there aren't enough Denverites who have ever been to a proper fish and chips joint to understand this concept. Living in CO I feel that it's definitely difficult to find a place that serves up a yummy fish and chips. After passing this location once, we decided to give it a try. If it's a whole restaurant devoted to serving only fish and chips, you'd think it'd be pretty amazing yeah? It was good, not great. I left physically full, but still unsatisfied. My friend and I split the full meal size of cod. They give you a good amount of fish, good sized pieces as well. I just felt something was lacking taste wise. I still think Baker's St Pub does a better fish and chips. If you go, I suggest getting the Combo Full Meal plate for more variety. read more

What an amazingly ridiculous experience tonight. My order got shorted, someone went on break and the message didn't get delivered, and as customer after customer came to the counter to be handled, it became clear I wasn't going to get my third piece of fish. So when I finally got someone's attention, somehow or another it went from me trying to get my third piece of fish to I'd impugned her work ethic or dedication or some such nonsense -- as I'd sat there at the end of the counter and watched her doing heads-down hard work, handling customer after customer, it was clear to me how it happened, and I was fine with it, but somehow or another it turned into a victimization thing, a pride thing. To be clear -- I'd already paid for, and been shorted, a piece of fish. But somehow or another, that turned into my fault, by virtue of me having the temerity to mention that I'd been shorted a piece of fish. Eventually, the delivery of my third, (and fourth, even though I told her I wasn't that hungry) piece of fish came with an attitudinal delivery of my "refund". It became clear that I was totally in the wrong for wanting my third piece of fish. At that point, I'd totally lost my appetite, left all the "free" food and attitude behind. We can always find a way to turn ourselves into the victim. I just wanted my third piece of fish. read more

I'm a longtime fan of GB Fish & Chips. We started going years ago to the original South Broadway location. Then we were pleased when the closer to home Sloan's Lake location opened. More recently we've wanted to try the Arvada location but have never been able to get even close given the crowds. Actually, that's a challenge at Sloan's Lake as well - when the weather is nice enough to open up the outside seating, you're in fairly good shape, but the limited seating inside fills up very quickly when that's all there is. And when they're busy, parking can be as much an adventure as finding seating. It's too bad - this is the best fish and chips around and we would go considerably more often except for the aforementioned access issues. The food at GB is delicious. By food, I mean fish and chips. They also have other "English Specialties" and deep fried "Swimmers" on the menu and I don't doubt that they're very good, but GB is about fish and chips. I tried the tilapia once and otherwise always the cod - stick with the cod. It's not that the tilapia is bad, it's just that the cod is great - light and crispy batter with fresh, thick, moist, flaky cod on the inside. One thing to be aware of - they speak British English at GB - not American English. If you want chips, order crisps. If you want fries, order chips. I know - makes no sense to me either, but when in Rome .... The good news is that it doesn't much matter what you call the spuds - the cod steals the show. (p.s. - The service is always friendly and the value is good - $11.25 for 3-piece cod fish and chips.) read more

This is just a cool little restaurant in Edgewater with good fish and a cool set up. While I initially felt $15+ was a bit steep for some fried cod & fries & a soft drink, you get a ton of food! The cod is cooked perfectly, not that overly doughy breading you get at some places. I can't say I'm a fan of the "chips", they taste a bit too much like potatoes to me. So, I'll be ordering a different side, next time. The set up here is pretty cool. There is a large bar, some small bar tables and then some large picnic bench style tables that you are expected to share with others. Everyone who works here is really laid back and nice. And, did I mention 75 cent PBRs during Happy Hour (3-7pm)? Nice! And, like all the restaurants on this block, you gotta love the view of the Denver skyline just past Sloan's lake. Great spot. Let me start off by saying we have been frequenting GB Fish & Chips for yearssss. Mainly the S. Broadway location but have been to this Sloan's Lake location plenty of times before too. All dine in. Always fine no complaints. Butttttt, due to the lovely COVID-19 virus, we had to do take out. And boy, that was a mistake. Now first and foremost, again, we frequent GB many times decided hey, even though we have to do take out, let's try to support them. Times are hard for everyone especially restaurants so why not support when we can. But no, this was a BIG MISTAKE. Now I know that when it comes to fried food, of course it will get soggy after some time. So that is why I called ahead and mentioned to the gentleman who took my order if I can call ahead and will be there by a certain time, he said yeah. Great. We ordered a half order of Cod with chips and full combo with chips. So, we arrived to pick up our order exactly 5 minutes before the time mentioned. Order was already ready. Great. Got home (commute time less than 10 mins), washed out hands(!!!), then opened our two orders right away... everything was soggy and sweating. Not to mention, the calamari and fish was mushy and tasted stale. Fries ... soggy. Everything was soggy. Basically had to pick the breading off of each and just tried to consume what was left (minus the pieces that tasted like it will give us runny stool later on). Dinner was wasted. Pretty good fish and chips! I like the light batter and the fish was good quality. I've had the shepherds pie and I would not suggest getting it. Mine was over cooked and had weird burned edges (not in the good way like crispy lasagna edges, yum!). Tuesdays are kind of a drab day. It's not Monday, sure. But what's special about Tuesday?? Go to GBs and find out. Tilapia Tuesday is legit. ($1 per piece!) That crispy deep fried, perfectly battered and piping hot fish is the epitome of satisfaction and comfort. The fries are kind of plain but that's ok, it knows the fish is the star of the dish. This is my favorite location. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting. I love their patio and it is fabulous for kids. Yum!!! GB Fish and Chips does its thing perfectly. I always get the cod and it is always cooked to perfection with a nice crispy crunchy outside and perfectly succulent, moist and delicious cod goodness on the inside. The "chips" that us Americans refer to as fries are awesome steak fries and they are generous with them. The Cole slaw is nice and fresh, crisp and compliments the fish and chips nicely. The staff has been wonderful and super friendly on every occasion I have come into their establishment. Oh and I love the baked beans, very delicious. The only reason that I did not give a 5 star rating is because I feel the prices are a bit too high. $ 30 for two people at lunchtime is pretty pricey. If you haven't tried this place yet you are missing out. I have never had a bad meal here in 5 years since I found it. The fish and chips are amazing, always hot and fresh. The prawns and scallops are equally delicious. They also have amazing clam chowder (a family favorite), sausage rolls, meat pies, and Sheppards pie. You can't go wrong with anything you choose. The atmosphere is laid back and fun. Lots and lots of football - soccer to us Americans. They have four locations but the Sloan's Lake location is my favorite. The food is absolutely delicious. There's no doubt about that. I usually get the 1/2 cod meal (3 pc) w/ chips, and a side of curry sauce. One thing I can't wrap my head around is the price. $12 for 3 pieces of fish, a very small portion of fries, and about a cup of curry sauce is absolutely ridiculous. Hence the 4 star review. I only go here about once every 2 months due to the price. If they would lower their price a little I would go there a lot more than I do now, and they would probably make a larger profit from me.
