Long overdue review. Moved into our new construction home and, as usual, we had a dirt lot in the back. What made our situation unique was one of the neighboring homes was at a higher elevation than ours, so I decided to install a retaining wall to get more space out of the backyard. Contacted a few different contractors for the work, and after meeting with Guillermo, I decided to go with GCG, and I couldn't be happier with the decision. GCG installed two, long retaining walls for us, and the finished product came out great. He also recommended materials and design elements. They even helped me by planting four, very large sweet bay trees in the retaining wall, awesome! Guillermo, his father and the entire crew were professional, communicated well throughout the entire project, and addressed any issues that came up. We originally installed a wall waterfall, but due to the logistics of the yard and horrible (non-draining soil), the install had to be taken out. Guillermo worked with me on the price and resolved the issue for us. I highly recommend GCG for any masonry work you may need! We had a wood retaining wall that was leaning toward a gas meter on the driveway. Other segments of the retaining wall around the house were also weak. We wanted to coordinate a gas pipe replacement with a plumber and PG&E near the retaining wall, the PG&E pipe was rusty and looked bad. GCG gave a quick response and a quick estimate. They were able to work right away. They could coordinate their work with the plumber and PG&E so that we could get all the work done in the right order. They had a reasonable price, not the very lowest, but they really seemed able to do the work correctly and quickly. They finished the main job in one day with many people and proper equipment. They used strong good quality wood for with thick posts for the wood wall replacement. They came up with a block wall rounded design better than the original near the end of the driveway at the same cost as a wood wall, it looks great. read more

We hired GCG for a backyard remodel. Our backyard is on a steep hill and not super big. The building is fairly new and the constructor only did a small patio and the rest was full of weeds. We had a couple of features we wanted to include (stairs, larger deck, retaining wall and upper level to get more usable space), but no premade plan by a landscape designer. We asked for a couple of offers and ideas, Guillermo came out with the best offer and vision. They were very fast and efficient with good quality end results. We were extremely positively surprised with the end result, it exceeded our own original vision! The yard now extends the style from inside the house and both the yard and even the house feel bigger. I contacted them through Yelp, phone and SMS, over the span of a few weeks. And in all cases, they said that they would contact me back to schedule an appointment. But I guess they're just too busy these days that they don't need my business, since they never bothered to reply back. I can't tell whether they do a good landscaping work or not. But they certainly do a lousy job in scheduling appointments. I would be looking for a more reliable contractor for sure. Update: The owner, Guillermo, called me to explain the circumstances around why they failed to follow up (internal issues, COVID, etc...). He sounded sincere and I appreciate him calling. Ultimately, he said that he doesn't service my area. I'm bumping this to two-stars for his follow up call. read more

After about a half dozen estimates we decided to use GCG Masonry as they had a "no problem" attitude and approach to their work. Where others saw issues with what we wanted they had ideas. We had a very steep driveway that full size trucks would scrape on due to the slope, and a parking strip that left cars sitting at a 15 degree angle. They were able to re slope our driveway and parking strip to the point you can drive straight on into the driveway now with no scraping. They came in on budget, and the turn around time was pretty amazing for the scope of the project. The end result of stamped concrete with sealer on it that looks more like art than a driveway/patio. read more

Masonry is not for the DIY person in your life. We learned that lesson the hard way and out came a rented jackhammer and a bunch of wasted bricks. I am so thankful my friend/contractor put me in touch with the Guillermo father/son team and owners of GCG Masonry. My existing brick patio was tight and small. We wanted to blow it out by extending around 300 sf of additional space. The guys gave me several options for this project, and let me choose how I wanted to approach the challenge of a non-square concrete patio and the old bricks not being laid perfectly in line. This was a challenging project- as it was an augmentation rather then a brand new project. After explaining all my options, I could not be happier with the end result and how this project turned out! The finish details are very artistic and the overall project looks awesome. Slope is good and I get lots of compliments. I greatly enjoyed working with the guys and their fam, and would love to put in another patio in the future with these guys. read more

Guillermo and his crew removed and installed a retaining wall that ran over 100 feet from our backyard to our driveway. We were impressed by their efficiency and skill. Guillermo's help with replacing my retaining wall was excellent throughout the process. I had called about 15 contractors and had about 7 come by. He was the only one to offer a reasonably priced and solid plan. He was able to do the work the following week which was right before the major rains. His communication was clear and prompt throughout this time with also a clear professional emailed contract. I had a troublesome neighbor who wanted to ask him a lot of questions since the wall was partly on her property but she couldn't afford to help pay for it. I spent a number of days trying to find an upfront, reliable , enthusiastic concrete mason to lay a large (24'x12') concrete slab with cinder block walls for my new swim spa which I purchased. Guillermo was the very first person to contact me and to offer to come around the same day to give me an estimate for the work. He came over with his dad; both of these guys have been in the business for a long time and totally know what they are doing.
