A few months ago I contacted Straight Edge Engineering about replacing worn and cracked concrete patio and walkway with pavers. Tony responded quickly, came out for a site inspection and was very responsive to concerns about utilizing the old concrete and adapting to an older house that is no longer level. Pavers went over the septic tank and marking the location of the lids was creatively addressed. I was so impressed by the speed of the two workers, their thoroughness and attention to detail! The job was completed in a fraction of the time I expected and quality of the work without fault. Tony was actively involved and listened and responded carefully to any of my questions. We bought this house that had a small patio area with pavers, and river rocks pretty much the rest of the way around. While the river rocks were low maintenance and nice to look at, it just wasn't practical - the puppy would chew on them and the humans would trip and stumble walking on them. We found Straight Edge here on Yelp, and Tony came out to take some measurements and emailed us a quote a couple days later. Tony was great and really listened to what we wanted, and was flexible when we wanted to add on another service at the last minute. The price was reasonable and his team worked quickly and efficiently to give our backyard a quality makeover. We originally wanted just concrete all the way around the yard, but Tony explained concrete would eventually crack, so pavers it is then! We literally had about a dozen contractors come over to our residence for quotes... It got to the point where I was getting exhausted, forgetting who was coming over, almost double booking appointments, and just losing interest. After narrowing down the contractors to 2-3 I was in the process of going with someone else other than Straight Edge, but something about that contractor didn't sit well with me. It was the lack of communication. Even though their price was less the lack of communication was a definite red flag. In my opinion sometimes going the cheaper route is not always the best route to take. So I canceled and went with my gut, and I am so glad I did. Tony with Straight Edge was outstanding! He responded promptly to our questions, gave us detailed description of costs, provided an exact start and finish date (finished sooner than expected), gave us a cash discount, and overall was just a joy to do business with. We had to remove a good amount of pea gravel from our side walkway from the previous homeowners which started to become an issue as our little one (2 yr. old) had started to put the gravel pieces in his mouth and laugh about it. Smh... So the gravel had to go!! One side we had half pavers and half pea gravel and on the other side weeds for days. The thing about weeds is that if not maintained on a monthly, to bi- monthly, to bi-annual basis can get out of control pretty fast and that's no fun at all. So the weeds had to go!! Fast forward to the start date. Tony's guys were right on time and went to work. These guys got down. They didn't ask for anything. No bathroom breaks (although I let them know it was okay if they needed to). It was pretty hot so I sporadically went out there and gave them some water/gatorades each day. Roughly 3 days later the job was done and the results were outstanding. In addition to adding pavers that matched the existing pavers, we had them add polymeric sand to the entire property in other areas where we had pavers to just make the area look clean and polished. Lastly, we had Tony extend our concrete out where our front patio is and bring up the drain. Everything went smooth and we could not be happier with the results. Really fantastic work. Tony, the owner, was involved closely in every facet of the design, material procurement and work scheduling for the project. This project involved demolition of concrete, moving and compacting soil for drainage, 300 square feet of pavers, CURVED walk and CURVED step, and even a CUSTOM REDWOOD FENCE! We had a paver and property divider wall projects that needed be completed. We called a number of vendors. Tony of Straight Edge Engineering was one of those vendors. We looked at his Yelp reviews, which was positive. His quote was reasonable. We decided to use Tony's company. Work was started, which required removing a few inches of dirt, and old irrigation/drain piping, and the old fence. They reset the pipes for irrigation and drainage. Placement was important, for the new fence line that was to be installed. Tony and his crew worked with us to make sure that the project was as we had envisioned. This project also included a couple of difficulties, which Tony and Hector were able to resolve, at a reasonable price. He was very easy to work with. We also had a 20 foot Roman Stone wall done in a couple levels, that will hold a PVC fence line. It came out just beautiful. Despite the weather delays, they were able to complete the work in 4 days. Tony the owner is probably the most honest contractor I've ever met. He helped me from designing and choosing of the pavers and made my budget worked for my backyard project. He gave me a lot of great ideas and even took me the pavers place in Gilroy and showed me different options on how my pavers would match my retaining wall. Tony worked with my wife and I to come up with a design and very quickly his guys were onsite and starting to demo the area to prepare for the new retaining wall, stairs, patio and seating area.
