I have been Gelati's biggest fan since 2017. But my review today comes from a recent experience-- on 5/29 I came in to pick up a catering order I had placed over the phone a few weeks ago for my Bridal Shower. Unfortunately, it has fallen through the cracks and was not ready. The young lady working that afternoon (I think Nicole was her name? Could be wrong!) reassured me that she was going to fix this, and she didn't care if she had to stay well past her shift end to get it right for me. She called me a few hours after her shift was supposed to end to tell me that it was ready for me, and when I picked it up it was PERFECT. She handled the situation with grace, respect and genuine care for my experience. She came through for one of the most special days of my life, and this is exactly why I wanted Gelati to be apart of it. She deserves everything good life has to offer and makes Gelati's aura shine. Honestly, can't ever go wrong with Gelati. The service is always pleasant and fast. This location is kind of small and it gets super busy but I do like that they have an outdoor area with plenty of seating. I tried the cake batter this time and it was really sweet but pretty good. I always enjoy grabbing some ice cream from Gelati Celesti. This day we visited the Forest Hill location for some holiday flavors. I started with the Peppermint Bark which is made with creamy white chocolate ice cream, swirled with crushed peppermints and dotted with rich chocolate chunks. The texture was so creamy that it pretty much melted down the side of the cone. And I really couldn't taste the "peppermint" flavor. Because I wasn't satisfied, I decided to order the holiday Sugar Cookie flavor. This one was much better! Outside of the holiday flavors we enjoy our regular two flavors: Cookies and Cream (made with Oreo cookies) & Just Ask (White Chocolate Ice Cream mixed with a combination of frozen peanut butter and chunks of OREO Cookies). First time trying and was very impressed, not cheap but worth it in my opinion. I went with two other people and they chose what they wanted right away then there's me, very indecisive so I tried so many different flavors and even tried what my friends got but still couldn't make up my mind. The staff there are so nice, very friendly atmosphere, they did not mind that I kept asking to try different flavors and they even gave me some suggestions. I tried my friends milkshake and it was so good. This place is probably one of the best ice cream places that I have been to. I love the location as well, It is next to one of my favorite grocery stores so I can get my groceries then walk less than a minute to get ice cream lol. [Pandemic review - 2020] Came with some friends who came here before and loved it. Since I came during the pandemic, they were not allowing samples. I ended getting the Blanchard's Coffee with a cone in the smallest size (toddler) (see pic). It was good though a bit on the sweet side. The Blanchard's Coffee flavor is one the most popular ones. I've been wanting to try this place for yearsssss. So when I was in the area it was a no brainer. There were a lot of flavors to choose from and it took me a while to decide but ultimately I chose the honey badger and birthday cake flavors and got them in a waffle cone. I loved birthday cake but the honey badger was just ok. The stroopwaffle pieces in the honey badger were chewy especially being in the ice cream. My boyfriend's 2 scoops were rainbow cookie and strawberry cheesecake. The rainbow cookie 10/10! It was vanilla ice cream (I believe) and the ukrop's rainbow cookies. Heaven. I'll definitely be back for that flavor. We ate outside because there was no seating available for anyone indoors due to covid. They also don't allow tasting or eating inside the establishment due to covid so be prepared to sort your flavors by description. read more

I love the butter pecan, the mint chocolate chip, and the Just Ask! Okay... so three scoops!! Like their other sister stores, the gelato here is rich, dense and creamy. The handmade, hand-crafted flavors are decadent, natural and fresh! It's apparent they are super detailed oriented and take their ice cream seriously! Ventured here with a friend after a dinner. The gelato was good. It was not too expensive. I loked the creaminess of it and the flavors really shined through. Thata a good thing. I liked that you can mix the scoops to create flavor combinations. I would have likes some "out of the box" flavors. Loke science experiment idea. Red Velvet chocolate cake, Chocolate mousse cake, flavors of candy, or something of that nature. I could not decide what flavor to get because they have some cool choices. I will try lavender next time because my cousin really enjoyed it. I decided to try coconut and coffee together which was a great combination. I did not expect the frozen treat to capture the taste of toasted coconut so well. I also love that you can get the toddler size no matter your age because sometimes I don't want a large serving. Service was wonderful. We arrived maybe 15 minutes before closing time. I'm not sure how "authentic" it is if you're a real gelato connoisseur, but I will say its DANG good if you're just looking for an awesome dessert. I love that they frequently incorporate local products into their flavors, like Blanchards coffee, and Ukrops rainbow cookies. Absolutely love this place. We go at least every week. Cold Stone used to be our favorite ice cream place but not anymore. When someone told me about this place I tried it and never looked back and come to find out there was a location like 5 mins from my house. Love that they have different flavors all the time and you can sample a flavor first before getting it. I personally always get a waffle cone, they are really good. Kids love milkshakes. And I also buy tubs when they have a seasonal or limited edition flavor and store them in my freezer. I used to be a big Breyer'a fan especially their mint chocolate chip but within the last few years I've suspected they changed their recipe slightly and it's not as creamy as I remembered it. I've become more of a Haagen Daaz fan... though I did enjoy blue bell creamery before they took it off the shelves with the food borne illness outbreak. Anyway as far as Gelati Celesti goes these are some of my go to flavors- Just Ask (when I first started going here I though Just Ask meant ... "Just Ask" thinking they changed up what Just Ask actually was as far as the ice cream... that would've been neat... but not it's white chocolate ice cream, Oreos and peanut butter. It's yummy but sometimes I wish the peanut butter was swirled in better as opposed to huge chunks of it.), Mint Chip, Almond Joy (exactly what it sounds like, ice cream like an almond joy chocolate bar), Salted Caramel (perfect amount of sweet and salty), Pralines and Cream ( really good but you have to be in the mood for it since it is quite sweet after awhile), Mint Oreo. Some seasonal flavors that I love, Bavarian Mint (imagine rich chocolate with mint flavor and I think it had chocolate chips too) , Baklava (just as it sounds it Baklava in ice cream format), Pumpkin Gingernsap (pumpkin ice cream with pieces of soft gingersnaps throughout). Ice Cream is great but if you are considering getting an ice cream cake it is not what you are actually envisioning. I love some ice cream cake and my husband decided to buy me one last year for my birthday since I love their ice cream so much. It was literally ice cream shaped as a cake.... there is no cake portion within this ice cream cake. So if you are expecting a layer of cake and a layer of ice cream you will not get it, because of that I wouldn't get it again. Gelati Celesti doesn't play around when it comes to ice cream. I loved trying the strawberry almond flavor and mixing it with good old vanilla in a sundae. I love how you're encouraged to try as many different flavors as you want. They always have a great amount of "staple" flavors (Just Ask is my favorite!) and then mix in other flavors to keep it interesting. I'd highly encourage you to try the flavors that change daily. Most of them are so good! The employees are always so nice. You can be sure that any experience there is going to be a great one. I think the best icecream establishment in Richmond. It is a chain, but I've been going to the store on stony point road and never have I been disappointed with their icecream, service, and interior cleanliness. There's also a parking lot, so parking has never been an issue for me. I can't even count or remember how many different types of flavors they have. They offer free samples which is nice. My friends and I come here often and they have ample amount of seating space for a fairly large group to lounge around. Their hours are great too! Open till 11pm on Saturdays, it gives the flexibility to go out for a late hang out. Overall I definitely recommend people to check this place out. They are usually packed Saturday nights but the line is definitely worth the wait! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. read more
