I just dropped in at 7:50 on a Saturday morning to buy butter and filet mignon. The clerks were busy at work and pleasantly greeted everyone but these were only two cash registers open with super long lines. C'mon! People are hoarding and this store has high prices. Why can't you open a third register in a time of pandemic? There were two employees at the exit saying goodbye. Lots of employees and high prices but poor checkout service. read more

It's a very clean market. Fancy looking with Wolfgang puck pizzas and wine tasting. Service was very nice though I didn't see anyone man the food court (off peak hours?). A lot of the stuff was fresh but also very expensive compared to others. Almost like a cross between Bristol Farms and a Whole Foods. But I guess you get what you pay for! Parking was convenient and getting there is not bad even if you have to fight off PCH traffic. My first time shopping here was last month. I've worked in a grocery store and retail and have high standards re: Customer Service but I also consider that people are people and have their days. I was amazed walking into this location!! EVERY representative spoke to me. This is not common believe it or not. Everyone was completely helpful and if I look lost they stopped immediately to help Service me. When I told them how thankful I was at checkout the person bagging my groceries said "absolutely this is what we're here for!" I truly hope we learn to care for and pay our essential workers better after this year. They push through and go out of there way for everyone. Grateful read more

I walked in and was watching the sushi sections, had to sit it at the bar because there was a Japanese chef !!!! At the counter , it was nice surprise talking (actually meeting ) some Japanese people in Manhattan beach. Besides that, I had survenion blanc and blue point, it was sooo fresh and delicious. I do not usually write reviews but just read a horrible review of MB Gelson's and I was shocked. Somebody must have had a bad day. This grocery is everything I would ever want in a grocery. I have found everyone extremely helpful. Dennis, the manager, is extremely accommodating. If they don't carry what you want, he will try to get it for you. He will remember your name. Juan, who runs the bakery, is also special. He too remembers your name. It's the best bakery of any grocery. The baked goods are unusual, fresh and delicious. My family flips for the chocolate chip cigars and an apple crisp danish. The rugela are legendary. Most of all, the many samples are dangerous!! The bakery is called Victor Benesh(sp?). It is in every Gelson's, but this branch is even better than some of the other ones. By the way, I will never make tuna salad again. This deli makes it so good with very little mayo and with delicious herbs, that my tuna can not compare. Many of the prepared foods in the deli are unique and delicious. This is the kind of grocery that makes you feel like it has been your neighborhood grocery for years although it is fairly new to MB. read more

It's much smaller than I expected, I've been to other Gelson's and they are much larger than this location, the staff is very friendly and they have a nice selection and while some items are more expensive there are some reasonably priced items and there are things you might not find at other markets. I will get them another try soon, but for the time being they are about average, mostly due to the smaller than expected size of the store. read more

This review is solely for the deli. I just purchased a whole organic chicken and some sidewinder fries and both were inedible. The last couple of times I got food at the deli were also bad, but I let it slide because everyone has an off day. This is the third time at the deli where I've had to just throw out the food because it was not possible to eat. The chicken was so dry and actually tasted old, like maybe it was from the day before. I was there at 1:30pm today, so you would think the deli selections would be fresh. Really bummed out by the quality of the food there now. It's definitely not worth the prices either. The chicken and 1/2 pound of fries was $24, which I don't mind paying IF it tastes good. Both the chicken and the fries were very dry, even the dark meat was like jerky. It's a real bummer because their deli used to be amazing, which is why I kept going there. Now, unless I'm ordering a pizza from them, I'm not likely to ever order from the deli again. The workers are very nice and helpful, but the food was just awful. The last 2 times I went I got the ribs and they were awful too, which is why I tried something new this time. I don't know if they have new chefs or they're recycling food that's not been sold the day before - which I highly doubt -, but buyer beware at the deli. Their pizza and bakery is fantastic though, so I'll continue going there, just not the deli. Oh, and today was the first time I encountered a signature gatherer, which I'll say I'm not a fan of, regardless of the cause. When I go to the store, I'd rather not be bothered by people hanging out by the entrance/exit. read more

I go there mainly for their bakeries. Their baked goods and cakes are so good!! Plus it is not as crowded as Whole Foods. I also do not to forget to browsing fruits sections. They gave good fruits selection in my opinion. I am happy to gave Gelson's in South Bay. read more

My review is mainly regarding the Wolfgang Puck employees. Came in a few days ago to purchase a few chicken aioli sandwiches and pizzas along with my wife for the beach. One of the workers I believe his name was Steven was polite and told us that the worker is currently on lunch and will be back around 6:30pm we looked at the time and it was 6:27pm, ok no worries we decided to do a bit of shopping until the employee clocked back to his shift. So finally we see the employee come back and putting things away as I place the order he gives me a blank stare and says sorry I don't know how to make that sandwich and we are closed for the day. Wtf so basically you guys couldn't just put a sorry closed sign or something instead of giving us false hope that you guys are open and running for customers??? I love Wolfgang Puck Express but every location I go to the employees really need some retraining on customer service or they just need to hire new people who will enjoy helping customers with food service. read more

Best kept secret in South Bay! The food shopping is great but the wine bar and sushi are probably the best deal anywhere. They also have pizza and a variety of salads and pizza all made on-premises. Each month has a new featured winemaker with a red and white for the whole month. The prices are really low for such a high-end place. Please don't tell everyone. read more

Went to Lazy Acres but couldn't find organic raspberries. Went to Gelson's nearby. My mistake. Looks like I paid $2 to $3 more for a small pack than I would have paid at Vons. Same supplier, Driscols. Didn't want to drive more, so I bought them, but I'm going to do some price comparison shopping, and I am pretty sure Gelson's will come up short, but, I am surprised at how short. read more

i came home from gelson's yesterday and (literally!) told my husband, "i love gelson's!", and this is why... 1. the people who work there are SO nice and helpful, not just with me but i noticed with other people too. super friendly and accommodating too. 2. they carry certain products that can't be found everywhere like my favorite caesar dressing, croutons, and rosemary breadsticks. 3. their prices are really not out of control like i originally expected. 4. they offer FREE charging for electric cars, & i can always get a space. 5. they have offers like $5 or $10 off your purchase PLUS they'll honor them even when expired. 6. cute seasonal items. even though we live in south redondo, it's always worth the trip to mb to go to gelson's! read more

Yes, some of the prices are insane at this place, for example a bag of small sweet peppers that elsewhere is anywhere from $3.99 to $4.99 is $7.99 here. Yes, I get that but I have found that if you shop carefully at this place it really is a good store. So what does shopping careful mean. Well, their crazy high priced "prime" meats will most likely have a sale almost always. If you look in the meat case, there are managers specials. Careful means not buying the less quality non sale "choice" meats that will be higher than the prime sale meats (yes crazy). Other little hints is that there are sales all over the place. I bought a jar of red peppers for $1.99 that was on sale from $4.99 and there are other items all around the place that have these sale prices. Also, the decent salad bar has a $6.99 price on Tuesday, which is less than the regular $8.99 at the overrated and dirty Whole Foods down the street. Take a look at the liquor and wine section for good sales and if not on sale there are overpriced to say the least. Other interesting tidbits are that the chicken and tuna salads are terrific at decent prices. The cole slaw and potato(e for Dan Qualye) are best around and the store is so clean with a great and friendly staff. So, yes this is not the perfect store and you need to keep you mind sharp to make it work but i have such a mind so be it. read more

Pretty empty mid day on a weekend..... I can't help but think it's because Lazy Acres has much more natural, reasonable and delicious produce. And a larger selection of all goods. And items in bulk (not just olive oil... though that's a cool feature I guess?). And way better customer service. The cashier I had was rude and looked to be judging me hard core. We needed a certain fish and they had just sold the very last one, so Dennis called Century City, they too were out. This store is just a few feet from my home but will never step foot into this Manhattan Beach Gelson ever again and will relate what happened all my friends and neighbors. I will drive 1-2 minutes to Lazy Acres (SE of Sepulveda & Artesia) down the street and Traders Joe (NE of Sepulveda/PCH & Aviation) because they always have amazing customer service while their overall price is also about half of Gelson. read more

I've been going to Gelsons since college in the late 70's, but back then only for occasional small splurges. Nice to have one in the South Bay now. Gelsons has been great! The manager Dennis helped secure a generous donation of waters, Gatorade and bars for our son's Eagle Project. Woody one if the the butchers, Jackie at the sushi bar, and Juan in the bakery are all super nice and helpful. Each person at the check is kind and helpful. The food is excellent and all of the samples in the store make shopping a fun experience. The food quality and variety are wonderful. Love their daily soup choices, variety of sushi and prepared foods too. A welcome addition to the area! read more

really 4 1/2 stars. went here on Halloween for a beach picnic. met a friend here & it provides endless choices that satisfies 2 picky people. she went for the sushi rolls & soup & i had a poki seafood salad & yummy turkey meatballs & mash potatoes. of course we stopped at the bakery & got delish cookies [she even got some to take home to her family]. i got a donut that wasn't the usual grease bomb but a light airy version. coffee thumbs up too. even went back later in the day to get some fruit flavored sparkeling sodas. again terrific variety of selections & personnel friendly. I am so disappointed. I was so excited for a nice grocery store to be a bit closer than Bristol Farms or Whole Foods. I went today to get a ham for Thanksgiving and some loose sausage for stuffing. They have a tiny tiny case with some fresh steaks and beef and that's it, aside from the fish case. All of the meats were wrapped just like at Vons and Ralph's. I really was hoping they'd have a proper butcher counter like some other stores. They had a very small selection of Hams and only one brand that I did not recognize. They had no loose sausage. So now I have to go to Bristol Farms or WF for what I want anyway. I also bought three sandwiches at the Wolfgang Express there. Very sad looking and not much meat. I looked at the salads from Wolfgang as well and they are very small for the price. I don't think I will be going here very much. I will still trek to BF and WF. read more

This place was so clean and very nice but it just lacked certain things that other stores have. I'm almost sad that I don't think this place is going to make it, because the employees genuinely care and we could tell they were working hard. The grocery market has become very competitive. There is almost every type of grocery store in the area, so when this place came in, it just didn't have a niche that the others didn't have. When we walked in, we smelled fish, fishy fish, not a deal breaker but it did turn us off. They had a larger prepared meal section which was very nice and clean. As far as produce, if you are looking for organic this may not be the place for you. While they did have some organic, they were lacking some staples, like onions, which was the reason we decided to stop in. They do carry some nice specialty items. Gluten free, vegan, dairy free, but nothing that you can't get somewhere else, and it was generally around the same price. I hate to give this place 3 especially when people care, but with the inventory and nothing jumping out at me, its just another grocery store. read more

Haven't tried it. Want to. So I read some reviews. Loved the ones that viewed the store on its layout and products and other sorted information that's pertinent. Didnt Love the ones that have to bring their politics and global view. Guess what, I've gone to a Rite Aide in a not so prosperous part of town and was treated rudely and no one tried to help me either. Do I make a huge judgy judge opinion about people of color, NO! I get my stuff and move on. Why are rich people suppose to open their souls to every person who feels left out. Either like going to a place or don't, then either go back or don't. Sorry you feel left out, but it all sounds like playground politics. Finally went there, and wow what a nice place to shop. So clean, bright, really nice ambience for shopping. Bar area is very inviting, wish they would have been open when I came here, 12pm. Can't wait to go back after 12 to sample and sit in this nice comfortable space. Poke bar looked phenomenal, really nice presentation of fish and other items to make your own bowl. A little expensive but what do you expect, especially when it's this nice. read more
