This a quaint little restaurant that was decorated for fall/Halloween. Probably sits around 75 or so. And then there's another room for more people. So if you want to host a good size party, you can. There is one 65" TV currently showing the news in the main room. Probably will be showing the MNF game later. The place was clean. We were greeted promptly and sat down immediately. The party room was full but our side had about 4 groups of people. Taylor was our waitress. She very polite and was quick to ensure we got our drinks first and then our order. Bread sticks came with the special for this particular order. It came with a somewhat spicy cheese sauce and a marinara sauce. Both were very tasty and the breadsticks were good as well. Linda, the hostess brought us the bread and plates as the staff were shuffling between the 2 rooms. Again, she was very nice and accommodating. They switched over to MNF as expected. The pizza: we ordered one half pepperoni, sausage and mushroom. The other half was mushroom and cheese. It was a thin crust. It looked great but tasted just okay. Now everybody has different tastes so they might have a different opinion than us. The sauce didn't seem to taste the same as the marinara we had with the bread. We assumed it would be the same and maybe it was but it tasted a little more sour. I don't know if that's the right word for it. But we wouldn't reorder it. My daughter has had the antipasto salad there and she loved it. She also loved their wings. So try different menu items. Nice place and nice people. Maybe a different menu item would raise my score up because we really liked the place and the service. It's worth a try. read more

Horrible, Horrible service! I made a reservation two weeks ago for my granddaughter's high school graduation. I reserved the private room in the back. I was expecting 16-20 people to come. My reservation was for 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 21. I called in an hour early, as instructed, with my order for dinner. I guess my first clue to bad service was when someone in the kitchen heard the manager taking my order and yelled "we forgot about the party!" The list of things that was so wrong is huge so I will just list them: room was filthy; employees belongings were stacked on one table; manager was pretty rude; waitress was okay but inattentive; no plates for appetizers; no glasses for soda; no napkins for anything; appetizers were terrible; pizza's when arrived kept falling off of stands so I ended up just lying flat on table. The waitress NEVER came to check on anything! I repeatedly had to go to counter and ask for basics: plates, napkins, silverware, etc. Only one waitress, don't know her name but had long blond hair would come in and fill water pitchers. Gelsosomo's claim to fame is of course their pizza. Funny enough though the two times we've gone here we ordered other stuff. I remembered not being impressed our first time out. In fact I wasn't thinking of going back till my other suggestion was vetoed and Gelsosomo's came as a last minute afterthought. I figured maybe give it another shot. This time around I have to say overall I liked what I ate better. The restaurant was a bit packed and unfortunately we were sat across from a large party. But thankfully since it was just D and I, we opted to sit in the booth to avoid being squished by the other party and passerby servers. We ordered calamari as our appetizer and was pleased to get almost all rings and no tentacles. The sauce wasn't the typical seafood cocktail type sauce. It had a bit of a sweeter taste which reminded D of Catalina dressing and I of BBQ sauce. Whatever it was it worked out fine. For our entrees D ordered a grilled chicken fettuccine with alfredo sauce while I had the five cheese tortellini with marinara sauce and a single meatball for a buck fifty up-charge. Between the food and the beers we were quite stuffed. Overall it wasn't a bad meal. If we go back we do want to try their pizza as they looked pretty good at the other booth and large party table across from us. read more

I have ordered from here a couple of times when staying in a local hotel. From what I can see, they have about the best pizza available for delivery in the area. I have tried most of the others, and this is by far the best. Good tasting think crust pizza, sauce has good flavor and the crust actually tastes good unlike most other others which could just as well be cardboard. If found this place a bit pricey for the area (I might expect these prices in Chicago) but worth it compared to the garbage their competitors will deliver to you. I rather pay a bit more for something that tastes way better. Another nice things is that they don't OVER cheese your pizza which is something alot of places do to mask the lack of flavor. read more

Pizza is pretty good, packs quite a punch in their special sauce, although their specialty is thin crust. Extras and pastas are obscenely priced (Somewhere around 6 bucks for 5 roasted cheese ravioli), but overall it's a nice place to eat. If you can help it, try to eat in, the people there are nice, and the atmosphere is very warm. It's an interesting place. If you have the money, check it out, it's pizza is (almost) one of a kind. We decided to give this place a try as it was recommended to us. So off we went on a Sunday evening. My wife, fond of anything noodle, ordered pasta Alfredo with chicken, the kids went for their signature pizza. I ordered something "meatballs". Pizza: despite their young age my kids are quite the pizza connoisseurs. They liked the taste of the sauce a lot but were less than excited about the dough: it seemed under-baked, pale white and was kinda chewy. Pasta: this was horrible. The only thing to compare it to was Chef Boyardee at 180F. Yes, it could have come from a can. Meatballs: nothing worth remembering, a little sandy in texture. About the place itself: a little mish-mash of styles with plenty of room between the tables. Somehow the place seemed packed but then again, where else does one go to dinner in Portage Indiana :( Sorry, we are normally pretty easily satisfied, as long as quality and price are somewhat related, but in this case it was not.
