This a quaint little restaurant that was decorated for fall/Halloween. Probably sits around 75 or so. And then there's another room for more people. So if you want to host a good size party, you can. There is one 65" TV currently showing the news in the main room. Probably will be showing the MNF game later. The place was clean. We were greeted promptly and sat down immediately. The party room was full but our side had about 4 groups of people. Taylor was our waitress. She very polite and was quick to ensure we got our drinks first and then our order. Bread sticks came with the special for this particular order. It came with a somewhat spicy cheese sauce and a marinara sauce. Both were very tasty and the breadsticks were good as well. Linda, the hostess brought us the bread and plates as the staff were shuffling between the 2 rooms. Again, she was very nice and accommodating. They switched over to MNF as expected. The pizza: we ordered one half pepperoni, sausage and mushroom. The other half was mushroom and cheese. It was a thin crust. It looked great but tasted just okay. Now everybody has different tastes so they might have a different opinion than us. The sauce didn't seem to taste the same as the marinara we had with the bread. We assumed it would be the same and maybe it was but it tasted a little more sour. I don't know if that's the right word for it. But we wouldn't reorder it. My daughter has had the antipasto salad there and she loved it. She also loved their wings. So try different menu items. Nice place and nice people. Maybe a different menu item would raise my score up because we really liked the place and the service. It's worth a try. read more

We have been ordering from here for over 20 years. Gelsosomo's and Aurelio's have always been our favorites, and the quality has consistently been very similar. Unfortunately, the pizza we received today from Gelsosomo's was extremely disappointing. The sauce tasted different, the cheese and pepperoni seemed lower quality, and the crust was not the same as what we are used to. It honestly did not look or taste like their usual pizza. We are not sure if something has changed recently, but this was not the quality we have come to expect after so many years. read more

The food was good and made to order was placed for delivery. The delivery was on time nothing extravagant, but it was good service overall.

After living here three years, I finally tried the pizza from Gelsosomo's. I was pleasantly surprised! We had the Wednesday 5 topping large pizza special. Regular crust, well done. It was fantastic. The crust was crispy! There were plenty of toppings. Flavor was great. The only thing I'd change was I'd order extra sauce under. I'll be back soon for sure. read more

Do not order for delivery. It was New Years Eve but you would think management would of been prepared. Hire more freaking drivers, idiot's. It's now 7:03pm. I ordered it at 4:40pm. Bad management. Don't oder from them unless you have hours to waste! It has now been 2hours and 45 minutes. Spoke to Charles who is the supposed manager. He has no excuse. So I guess lesson learned DO NOT ORDER PIZZA there on New Years. They CAN NOT handle the load. read more

10/10 love the sauce so sweet and cooked to perfection. Definitely a favorite pizza spot in the region.

Gelsosomos used to be one of my go-tos for pizza delivery, Their sweet sauce and tasty crust was a real treat. I heard that Tom sold the business and it really shows... I put my last pizza outside for the racoons to eat and a week later it was still there. lol. read more

I've been coming to Joe Osmo's for years They don't seem to care about how they cook their pizzas anymore. The flavors are there but the presentation completely sucks half of. It's done half of. It's not it's not good presentation and I'm getting tired of paying in high prices for a pizza that can't even look beautiful edges are not done Just poorly crafted pizza. I'm surprised they're still in business. read more

Pizza was delicious. Family loved it and our daughter had the tenders and fries, they were very good too.

Used to be a great place. Customer Service, cleanliness and quality out the window. Management is in the toilet.

Update to my past review. I have gone here twice since they remodeled and it has gone downhill drastically. I would say skip it and go to the Valpo location. read more

They messed up my order so I had to wait longer so they can fix my order at the restaurant. ( the guy told me that the pizza "split" ??) They said they were sorry. BUT , I asked for a "coke" to take home and they refused.. I won't be ordering from them again because of the "customer service" is lacking. read more

Perfect old-school pizzeria! Stopped in on a Sunday around 5:30p. Not busy at all, service was excellent and the food was really fabulous! We had the Meatball & Italian Sausage appetizer, and a thin crust pizza. Those meatballs are worth a trip by themselves. They taste like someone's grandma is in the back making them. Super cute atmosphere in this original Gel's location. read more

Horrible, Horrible service! I made a reservation two weeks ago for my granddaughter's high school graduation. I reserved the private room in the back. I was expecting 16-20 people to come. My reservation was for 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 21. I called in an hour early, as instructed, with my order for dinner. I guess my first clue to bad service was when someone in the kitchen heard the manager taking my order and yelled "we forgot about the party!" The list of things that was so wrong is huge so I will just list them: room was filthy; employees belongings were stacked on one table; manager was pretty rude; waitress was okay but inattentive; no plates for appetizers; no glasses for soda; no napkins for anything; appetizers were terrible; pizza's when arrived kept falling off of stands so I ended up just lying flat on table. The waitress NEVER came to check on anything! I repeatedly had to go to counter and ask for basics: plates, napkins, silverware, etc. Only one waitress, don't know her name but had long blond hair would come in and fill water pitchers. My bill was $330.91! The gratuity was 18%. and added on to check. I would like a refund since I did all the work. Thelma J. Garcia Receipt #21 read more

Gelsosomo's claim to fame is of course their pizza. Funny enough though the two times we've gone here we ordered other stuff. I remembered not being impressed our first time out. In fact I wasn't thinking of going back till my other suggestion was vetoed and Gelsosomo's came as a last minute afterthought. I figured maybe give it another shot. This time around I have to say overall I liked what I ate better. The restaurant was a bit packed and unfortunately we were sat across from a large party. But thankfully since it was just D and I, we opted to sit in the booth to avoid being squished by the other party and passerby servers. We ordered calamari as our appetizer and was pleased to get almost all rings and no tentacles. The sauce wasn't the typical seafood cocktail type sauce. It had a bit of a sweeter taste which reminded D of Catalina dressing and I of BBQ sauce. Whatever it was it worked out fine. For our entrees D ordered a grilled chicken fettuccine with alfredo sauce while I had the five cheese tortellini with marinara sauce and a single meatball for a buck fifty up-charge. Between the food and the beers we were quite stuffed. Overall it wasn't a bad meal. If we go back we do want to try their pizza as they looked pretty good at the other booth and large party table across from us. read more

The food and waitress were good but the manager Sarah is extremely rude and unprofessional. Not only is she rude to us. She was on a major power trip and talking nasty to the employees. The crust and pizza are subpar. I was told 40 minutes for a pickup order but it probably lasted a little longer. The issue isn't the wait the pizza is just not that good. The crust, sauce and cheese all taste bland. The cheese has a parmesan crust on top that I do not care for. The sauce and crust need improvement. The ingredients seem low quality to me but seems like they have a following, might be one of a few or the only pizza place in town. read more

I know. The location is so very Indiana and the price is Chicago. It's worth it - but sign up for coupons, if needed. My last experience dining here (after years off) was while in town for a funeral. We stopped in and enjoyed garlic bread with cheese, buffalo shrimp, and a medium pizza with Italian sausage. Guys? I try to eat vegan as often as possible. Guys? I will never not eat the sausage pizza here, should I be in town again. Perfectly sauced, baked to perfection, sausage on point. Pro tip: get the giardiniera on the side. Service is Northwest Indiana. These ladies won't kiss your rear, but they'll feed table promptly and make sure you have what you need. Most often with a smile. read more

I have ordered from here a couple of times when staying in a local hotel. From what I can see, they have about the best pizza available for delivery in the area. I have tried most of the others, and this is by far the best. Good tasting think crust pizza, sauce has good flavor and the crust actually tastes good unlike most other others which could just as well be cardboard. If found this place a bit pricey for the area (I might expect these prices in Chicago) but worth it compared to the garbage their competitors will deliver to you. I rather pay a bit more for something that tastes way better. Another nice things is that they don't OVER cheese your pizza which is something alot of places do to mask the lack of flavor. read more

Pizza is pretty good, packs quite a punch in their special sauce, although their specialty is thin crust. Extras and pastas are obscenely priced (Somewhere around 6 bucks for 5 roasted cheese ravioli), but overall it's a nice place to eat. If you can help it, try to eat in, the people there are nice, and the atmosphere is very warm. It's an interesting place. If you have the money, check it out, it's pizza is (almost) one of a kind. (due to the fact that they sold their special sauce recipe to the local chain (Aurelios). Edit: I tried their deep dish pizza, turns out it's absolutely great, although pricey like their other items. Be sure to get it if you're a fan. read more

I had heard this place has won awards for their pizza, and was told it is pretty much the best in Indiana. So, of course, I had to try them. Their pizza is not bad, but it is nothing special either. Kind of bland. Definitely a step up from Pizza Hut or Domino's, but certainly not the BEST pizza. Here is the kicker, and why I gave it two stars - I ordered a large thin crust pizza (15") with three toppings and the bill with tax and delivery came to nearly $30! The menu on their website is out of date (I don't know what year it is from, but the same pizza was going for $18 or so at the time). Bottom line is that the food is not bad, but they are WAY OVERPRICED for what they give you. read more

We decided to give this place a try as it was recommended to us. So off we went on a Sunday evening. My wife, fond of anything noodle, ordered pasta Alfredo with chicken, the kids went for their signature pizza. I ordered something "meatballs". Pizza: despite their young age my kids are quite the pizza connoisseurs. They liked the taste of the sauce a lot but were less than excited about the dough: it seemed under-baked, pale white and was kinda chewy. Pasta: this was horrible. The only thing to compare it to was Chef Boyardee at 180F. Yes, it could have come from a can. Meatballs: nothing worth remembering, a little sandy in texture. About the place itself: a little mish-mash of styles with plenty of room between the tables. Somehow the place seemed packed but then again, where else does one go to dinner in Portage Indiana :( Sorry, we are normally pretty easily satisfied, as long as quality and price are somewhat related, but in this case it was not. For the 65$ we paid we would have expected something 2 stars better. read more

So damn good. Every time we go, I eat like it's Thanksgiving. I can't get anything like this where I live, so I have to crush it like it might be the last time I will ever have the opportunity.
