I have eaten here several times, and it's always been very good. The pizza crust is great like a thin cracker crust, and I always get the chunk sausage pizza with extra sausage because the sausage is great. The cheese as well as the sauce it wonderful and they put just enough on to balance everything. I'm picky about my pizza but this is in my top 5 in the area of Portage, Chesterton, Valparaiso hands down. It's a clean little place but they could use some more modern big screen TVs for us that like to go and have a pizza and beer on game day! TVs are cheap people get them! Try the cheese sticks as well those were great! Ive not tried any of the pasta dishes, but I heard they were good and seen many people around me eating them. This place is a sleeper! You would never guess but modest dining room with pizza to boast about. It was delicious. We ordered twice what we could eat and then ate it all!!! If there is a secret to pizza, it's simply using excellent ingredients. They had good (cracker) crust with nice slightly acidic sauce, great sausage and pep, top notch cheese, good mushrooms. I arrived at this restaurant on March 1st at 510 pm. It was apparent they were short staffed with only one server at the time. It took 10 plus minutes to be acknowledged. It took 20 plus minutes to get our drinks, just water. We were told at about 30 minutes we were "lucky" to have ordered our pastas because the kitchen was behind with all of the pizzas. We received our salads at 45 plus minutes and were told they didn't put in the pasta order yet and would get in ASAP. We finally received our pastas at 65 plus minutes and it did not come with the garlic bread, so I had to go ask for that. I can empathize with any person that is a part of the service industry, but it was as if we were being told different things at different times. Regardless, of the staffing situation, it should never take over an hour for spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, and water. read more

WTH! Villa Nova Pizzeria! WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I checked our food we ordered out before I left the building because the last time we were there they there they gave us breadsticks instead of mozzarella sticks. Not our fault BTW. And we were not rude about it. Normally they're mozzarella sticks are amazing but they were and smaller than what they would normally be. I showed them to the server and she agreed and said she'd remade them, supposedly... she explained that they are using a smaller mozzarella now. We got home and realized she, just scrape off the burnt crumbs and redropped them in a fryer. (So now they are burnt cold grease soaked grossness.) When I called there she was really mean. She kept calling me by my first name in every sentence. "I did remake them, ANGELA." "The last time you were here you complained, ANGELA." "I will refund you for the mozzarella sticks but we don't want you to come back here ever again, Angela." I am in shock! Update!!! She called called back my cell 15 min later and said.... They would NOT be refunding anything unless I brought all the food back untouched! Said she talked to the big boss. Kept calling my name Angela...over and over again.. and then hung up on me! We went with friends on a Sunday night for the special. They were slammed. We expected to wait. Ordered from a decent assortment of beers and our delicious, hot pizza came out before we finished our first beer! The waitresses were running their legs off. We went back the following Sunday...ordered another tempting type of pizza and same thing. Great pizza, great service, decent beer selection. Taking my sister in law with us this week because the pizza is so good and there are no steps. Our new favorite pizza place. read more

Stopped here at random on a drive through the area (to see if we could find some color changes). We were one of a few people in the place so were seated right away. Both of us ordered one of the Paninis, I had fries, my mom had the fresh fruit. Might I say the food is really good and decent portions? Prices were not bad either and we both were able to get refills on our drinks. Will have to come back here and try their pizza sometime that everyone seems to like. I wasn't expecting this place to be so good and reasonably priced! I had the Caprese sandwich with waffle fries and it was delicious. The portions are all a great size and the food quality was very fresh. The soups are all really good too. I liked this place so much the first time that I went back again in the same week! We decided to try Villa Nova for a Mother's Day lunch. We arrived at 11:50 am and saw they opened at noon. Not a problem. So we waited and realized that in that time, no one was in the restaurant. The owner (I presume) arrived at 12:02 and was the only person with keys. When she let us in the restaurant, the lights weren't on, the heat wasn't on, and you could tell by the immense wait for our food that the ovens weren't preheated. We ordered two 16" pizzas and three sandwiches. The best thing I can say about our food is that the pizza wasn't terrible. Our sandwiches, however, were awful. All of the meat was very obviously cooked from frozen. The meatball sandwich was not warm. I had to send my Italian beef back because it was essentially a sandwich with lukewarm jerky in it and no cheese, au jus, peppers, or anything else that might add a dimension of flavor. I sent it back and got the Italian sub sandwich. I asked if it was a hot sandwich and was told that it was. It came toasted, so the top half of the meat was hot. The ham on bottom, however, was ice cold. I am in my first trimester and have been advised to avoid lunch meat unless it is heated to steaming. There was a reason I asked if it was a hot sandwich, and they couldn't even accomplish that. The other beef sandwich we ordered was half fat and literally inedible it was so tough. As sides, we got two with fries and one with fruit. The fries weren't bad, but the portion was equivalent to a Small Fry at McDonalds. The fruit was gross and probably a frozen bag of fruit as well. Needless to say, will not be coming back. The only redeeming factor in any of this was that we got 50% off our pizzas because we paid with cash. read more

I love the food here. Pizza on Sunday's are half price when you dine in, and domestic bottles are $1.50. The appetizers are great, too. I haven't ventured much from those menu items. The buffalo chicken pizza is a little salty, but good. I love the margherita and the house without green peppers. Double dough is good but takes a little longer. Staff is hit or miss friendly. I've only ever had consistently great service from Jennifer in the bar, but you have to sit at a table in the bar for her to take care of you and sometimes all the tables are full (it's a good thing- that means she's popular!). Aside from her I've had mediocre to poor service. Once the hostess acted like it was a huge inconvenience that I even came into the restaurant. All in all though it's a nifty place to go! read more

Fantastic thin pizza. Went there as soon as it opened and was greeted by an amazing staff - think of the fanfare from Apple Stores during the launch of an iPhone. Beers were only $2 or so on the Tuesday I went. My waitress was friendly and outgoing and ensured I was satisfied - even let me control the bar TV and gave me the remote. What woman does that for a guy?! Ha. Had the pizza. HUGE chunks of sausage, I'd almost call them meatball-like but did not overwhelm the flavor of the pizza. Delicious and fresh. I could tell the meat was never frozen or from GFC. Crust is a thin crust style, but wouldn't consider it NY style due to the lack of the 'NU Flop.' I loved the pizza. In Chesterton, I always gravitated to Gelsosemos as my go to pizza place which I love. Duneland Pizza's hours fluctuate more than Chicago weather and I never know if the hours are even more limited week by week. I think I found my new go to pizza in chesterton! Keep it up! read more

I want to like this place: the service is decent, the place is charming enough and its location in old Chesterton is ideal. I want to like it, so I've visited a few times, hoping... Fact is, the food is not good. The calamari in the frozen section of Jewels is way better than Nova's offering. The mussels aren't just bad, they taste offensive. The (few) entrees offered are bland & boring. Their only hope - the pizza - is ok. Message to the staff: please, please adjust your kitchen talent and overhaul your menu. That sauce for the mussels is literally boiled wine, tomatoes and shells. My kid could be more creative. Your Alfredo pasta could use better starting ingredients, better prep, fresh parsley accent and some cheese option. And those 'bread' things that challenge my teeth for density are inedible. How many times will u clear a table of these, uneaten, before the light bulb goes off? I sound like a hater - I'm not. I truly want this place to be a go-to spot. Please owners, take this as a needed kick in the pants. Last item: your posted hours and those on Yelp have been wrong for a long time. Inattention to things like this speak volumes. read more

Worst part about the place was it's an Italian restaurant but had country music playing. To start with a positive, I will say that their bread was warm, chewy and delicious. Can't get bread like that just anywhere. Dont get rid of it!! However, this place needs to step it up a notch. One of the people I was with got a glass of Chianti. The wine was old and reeked like vinegar. Had to send it back. The waitress should have offered to open a new bottle, but instead just asked if there was something else she wanted. Pizza we ordered was pretty good but we had ordered garlic and there was NO trace of it anywhere. We couldn't taste it or see it so I asked the waitress if maybe they had accidentally forgot it. When she came back from checking she told us they use GARLIC POWDER!!! They charge $2 per topping and they use garlic powder?! What a rip off. With numerous established pizza/Italian places to choose from in Chesterton, this place can't be skimping like that. I've heard other people say the place is "cheap" too. The waitress we had was stoic and uninterested. Boring! Would I go back? Nope, there are much better options. First impressions are important. read more

Probably my favorite spot in Chesterton. Alfredo pasta with shrimp is FANTASTIC. They serve you bread with your order, sort of like Cheesecake Factory and Olive Garden. Villa Nova has by far the best pizza EVER. The ingredients are fresh and delicious. The crust is thin and crisp and perfectly complimented with a nice glass of wine and crayons on the table so you can do art, drink wine and enjoy your special date We have dined in, and had delivery and have enjoyed every bite. The service we have recieved has been over the top. I highly recommend Villa Nova for a special date night. Be sure to order extra so you have left over pizza for breakfast.
