He was the only person in San Diego that I could find that had Montana teal sapphires. I called to see if I could come in and Andrew told me to swing by in an hour. I had been toying with the idea of replacing the sapphire but, as much as I love my local jewelry store, I wasn't sure they'd be able to source the right stone at an affordable price. My fiancé and I wanted an alternative to a diamond (for many reasons). After learning about Montana Sapphires and realizing that is was the perfect stone for my engagement ring, we started researching them more online. We quickly came across GemFix and their awesome You Tube videos highlighting each stone in addition to their website that had detailed stone descriptors. Andrew was super responsive and we made an appointment to come take a look in-person. We were an hour + late to our appointment (holiday weekend traffic) and luckily it gave Andrew extra time to finish cutting one of his newest rough stones from the El Dorado Bar. He pulled out all of the unheated stones in the shape I liked (cushion aka 'rhapsody'). Immediately we were both drawn to the stone he had just finished cutting. It is a steely, light blue 2.46ct Unheated Montana sapphire. Given that is was much larger (and more expensive-due to the size) than we had anticipated, we did not purchase it that day. We stayed in contact with Andrew over the next couple of months and he kept us posted that is was still available. Two and a half months after our initial visit, we went back down and purchased our perfect stone! The stone is VVS clarity and the color-change in different lighting is just incredible (especially in natural daylight). We officially got engaged in July 2019 and we could not be happier! We both love looking at the Sapphire daily and we've received endless compliments on what a nice and sparkly stone it is. We set it in a classic solitaire setting, because honestly it doesn't need much more- the stone is gorgeous on its own! We have since purchased Montana Sapphire earrings for my Mom from Andrew, and of course it was a seamless transaction. I found Andrew on Pricescope after researching affordable, precision gem cutters. My fiancee and I made the drive from Vegas to San Diego for a weekend trip and stopped by Andrew's shop. We gave him our desired budget, color, and size requirements. He has a nice offering of blue and fancy sapphires and showed us everything he had that met our needs. More importantly, he didn't try to upsell us. We narrowed it down to two stones and viewed them under different lighting. Andrew was so helpful! I had a wonderful experience with this place! I asked many...many..questions and Laura was so patient and honest while we tried to figure out which sapphire was right for me. I found, ordering sapphires online to be VERY difficult. I love the sapphire I ended up with but it still looks very different then the photos and videos. That goes for other companies I've worked with too. There is seriously no photo or video that can capture what it'll look like. You need to see it in person. So, working with someone like Laura or Andrew to help find what you're looking for is key! I had been looking for a sapphire for over a year and living on the East Coast there are no in-store options for montana sapphires. I've ordered sapphires online with other companies before Gemfix and they did not come close to the amount of effort Gemfix did in the caring and packaging of there products. I was very impressed. It's an expensive purchase so to me it meant a lot to be treated and displayed as such.
