I came in for a gel manicure ($45 before tip) and had such an amazing experience with Nova that I ended up coming back later that same week for my pedicure and waxing ($75 before tip)-- and of course I requested her again. She remembered me right away and even noticed that I had more time that day, which I really appreciated. The pedicure was perfect from start to finish. The water temperature was spot‑on, the care she took with my feet and eyebrows was so precise, and the orange‑scented scrub on my legs and feet was heavenly. She doesn't know this, but I have plantar fasciitis, and those extra few minutes she spent made such a difference. Truly above and beyond. Anna did my waxing eyebrows, lip and nose. Awesome and so patient with me. Asking questions about how I wanted my eyebrows if I wanted Aloe Vera just very intentional and caring. The staff takes such care and attention to detail, and the quality is consistent. Walk-ins or appointments are ok. Because nail services can be a bit of an investment, I wanted to leave an updated and honest review. I had been going to Gem's regularly for the past year or two, but unfortunately, my last three or four visits just weren't good. I experienced things like gouged cuticles and uneven nail shapes, which was disappointing after being a loyal customer. My last hard gel manicure was so goopy and uneven that I ended up going to a different nail salon a week later for a fill/fix and that nail tech just completely took it off and redid it because she said it was terrible. And the difference when she was finished was night and day. One of the main downsides here has always been the lack of design options -- if you ask for something simple like a sun or a star, they'll usually just point you to the sticker book. For a salon that's on the pricier side compared to other nail salons on the same strip of Sunset the results have been disappointing. I've also noticed some small details that don't match the price point. For example, they've started using utility like towels -- the kind you might use to wipe down a car or a computer screen -- for manicures and pedicures. On one of my last visits, my pedicure chair faced their break area, and I unfortunately noticed what looked like bugs or something crawling around under the fridge/washer-dryer area. I came here to get hard gel removed and was told there would be a 5 min wait even though I knew this wasn't true by looking around, I still waited. 2 more people came in after me and after 25 mins of waiting a technician told me I would have to wait until after these 2 women because they had appointments. I understand that gel removal is not a lucrative service offering and I wish I could do it myself but the whole premise of it is that you can't...and sometimes nails need a break... Now, I don't want to assume they were lying but sure seems like they were. And doing so to a customer so blatantly in service of making more money with other customers is wild. Especially after making them wait. The worst part is I should have known better because I've been here once before for gel removal and the technician made me bleed, but figured I'd give them a second chance. I've been to Gems for gel manicures and regular pedicures most of 2024. They pay attention to detail, easy to walk in or set an appointment, and the tools and space are clean. Everyone here was polite but I must have gotten two new people (they didn't have a Venmo and one didn't have a uniform/apron.) Again they were very nice but I wanted a specific OPI red that most places have to match some shoes and this place only had 5 red nail polish colors that were non gel. I mean come on...there are blue reds and orange reds and to be a nail salon with only 5 reds - maybe 6- is crazy. The massage was less than 30 seconds long for both hands and feet and those are usually MUCH longer at places even for a regular pedicure. What's worse the guy gave me an abrasion on my skin with the loofah that drew blood and while trimming my cuticles he CUT MY TOE SKIN and it felt like ingrown toenail pain for days afterwards because of that. I had to ask the woman to remove old nail polish off my nails she didn't see and her second coat of the bubble bath color was so sloppy I could have done better myself. I tipped well because I appreciate their effort especially after I changed reds when the red I chose looked different than their sample (which they have instead of the OPI colors I'm familiar with.) The massage chairs barely recline and you can't feel them. Now I know why it was so empty in here on a Saturday. I won't be back. read more

I have been here three times now and will continue to go! They are super clean and extremely sanitary. My most recent visit I saw Nova, and let me tell you, this girl went to town on my cuticles. I wasn't even home yet from nail salon when it chipped. Feet were chipped within 30 hours. I did nothing strenuous. Service from young nail techs were horrible and was hard to even explain the very simple shape I wanted (literally kept saying over and over that I just wanted it cleaned up and shaped how it already was.) they were both very wel English speakers so there wasn't a language barrier-- just bad service.
