Why are you reading this review and not getting your nails done at Gems right now?! This place is the best nail salon I've ever been to. Very clean and comfortable space. The staff takes such care and attention to detail, and the quality is consistent. Walk-ins or appointments are ok. They prefer cash for tips (but also accept Venmo), and they also give a 5% discount if you pay with cash. I get a regular mani and pedi here all the time, and it always looks so good. They have lots of colors to choose from. They also do gels, full sets, etc. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but I got a gel manicure for my birthday a week ago and within the first two days they were breaking. I came in and instead of being understanding, the staff (sandy and the young man in glasses) got extremely aggressive, condescending, and rude. He even called me cheap as I was leaving - mind you I've been coming for years and have always tipped generously. This is super disheartening and I will never be coming back again - I strongly suggest you don't come here either because obviously their quality is awful and the people who work here are extremely unkind and spiteful. read more

Because nail services can be a bit of an investment, I wanted to leave an updated and honest review. I had been going to Gem's regularly for the past year or two, but unfortunately, my last three or four visits just weren't good. I experienced things like gouged cuticles and uneven nail shapes, which was disappointing after being a loyal customer. My last hard gel manicure was so goopy and uneven that I ended up going to a different nail salon a week later for a fill/fix and that nail tech just completely took it off and redid it because she said it was terrible. And the difference when she was finished was night and day. One of the main downsides here has always been the lack of design options -- if you ask for something simple like a sun or a star, they'll usually just point you to the sticker book. For a salon that's on the pricier side compared to other nail salons on the same strip of Sunset the results have been disappointing. I've also noticed some small details that don't match the price point. For example, they've started using utility like towels -- the kind you might use to wipe down a car or a computer screen -- for manicures and pedicures. On one of my last visits, my pedicure chair faced their break area, and I unfortunately noticed what looked like bugs or something crawling around under the fridge/washer-dryer area. Overall, after several disappointing visits, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Air bubbles appeared next day in my gel ex set $80. Went back next day for them to correct then they gave me attitude, now said they had a wait when they said they were ready for me right away on the phone. I had obligations I needed to head out for and they refused to offer me my money back or any other accommodations. read more

This has become my neighborhood go to nail spot! They're always so kind, communicative, and welcoming. Not to mention each nail tech I've had is so careful & talented! I believe Sandy did my GelX and it came out perfectly. Not to mention she heard me trying to clear my throat and offered me water and a cough drop, they just go the extra mile. Not to mention the location is in a wonderful central area, if you came for a walk in and they give you a wait time, you could grab coffee next door, a juice two doors down, or sushi across the street. read more

Such a great experience! I came in asking for Gel X thinking that was best for my nails, but as we started Kate recommended I do regular Gel for my nail type and I'm so glad I did! They look great and I felt like she actually cared about giving me good nails, not just doing what was easier and more expensive. Kate was very friendly and had great attention to detail. I came here to get hard gel removed and was told there would be a 5 min wait even though I knew this wasn't true by looking around, I still waited. 2 more people came in after me and after 25 mins of waiting a technician told me I would have to wait until after these 2 women because they had appointments. I understand that gel removal is not a lucrative service offering and I wish I could do it myself but the whole premise of it is that you can't...and sometimes nails need a break... Now, I don't want to assume they were lying but sure seems like they were. And doing so to a customer so blatantly in service of making more money with other customers is wild. Especially after making them wait. The worst part is I should have known better because I've been here once before for gel removal and the technician made me bleed, but figured I'd give them a second chance. Ultimately, they got what they wanted which was for me to leave which is unfortunate because I was hoping to make this my new go-to spot if I liked them this time. Bummer! read more

Everyone here was polite but I must have gotten two new people (they didn't have a Venmo and one didn't have a uniform/apron.) Again they were very nice but I wanted a specific OPI red that most places have to match some shoes and this place only had 5 red nail polish colors that were non gel. I mean come on...there are blue reds and orange reds and to be a nail salon with only 5 reds - maybe 6- is crazy. The massage was less than 30 seconds long for both hands and feet and those are usually MUCH longer at places even for a regular pedicure. What's worse the guy gave me an abrasion on my skin with the loofah that drew blood and while trimming my cuticles he CUT MY TOE SKIN and it felt like ingrown toenail pain for days afterwards because of that. I had to ask the woman to remove old nail polish off my nails she didn't see and her second coat of the bubble bath color was so sloppy I could have done better myself. I tipped well because I appreciate their effort especially after I changed reds when the red I chose looked different than their sample (which they have instead of the OPI colors I'm familiar with.) The massage chairs barely recline and you can't feel them. Now I know why it was so empty in here on a Saturday. I won't be back. read more

I have been here three times now and will continue to go! They are super clean and extremely sanitary. My most recent visit I saw Nova, and let me tell you, this girl went to town on my cuticles. I always get the Diamonds manicure with gel, this includes gel, hand massage, paraffin dip and exfoliation. Being a 6'2 tall male, they make me feel extremely welcome and cared for. Not only is the staff here inexperienced, they're also extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. I know multiple people who have been refused service for extremely simple requests. Will also leave you to sit 45mins - 1 hour past your scheduled appointment time. Just bad vibes. read more

I've been to Gems for gel manicures and regular pedicures most of 2024. They pay attention to detail, easy to walk in or set an appointment, and the tools and space are clean. Shout out to Minh especially, he is the best and I've never had a better gel manicure! I also appreciate they have a parking lot, and bathroom for customer use. read more

I don't recommend gems nail. Most of my jail nails were broken after a few days. I let them know what happened to my nails. the manager Anna blamed that it was because of my nail , not because of her skills or polish quality. I did not ask them to compensate or fix my nails , just let them know. However , I dot not appreciate the way they react and treat customers, very rude and bad customer service. Don't bother making an appointment! They don't care about your time! I showed up on time my appointment and waited for 15 min. While I sat there I realized that they had just started on other people and told me to wait another 10 min when I know it's not possible to do someone's gel X nails in 10 min! They also provide a private changing room and a lockable locker for your belongings, so I was able to change into a robe and feel completely at ease- no need to worry about keeping your shirt on in an open space. Lani was awesome and walked me through every step of the process, explaining what she was doing and how each treatment would benefit my skin, but I never once felt bothered or pulled out of my relaxed state. It was honestly the most gentle facial I have ever had. While the masks were setting, she massaged my hands and shoulders, which was a lovely touch that really elevated the whole experience. I did get a little chilly, but that is entirely on me- I run cold! Next time I will just ask for an extra blanket! This kind of care and attention made the whole experience feel truly personalized. I left feeling great and will absolutely be coming back. Highly recommend!

I was literally trying to find the studio for the first time. They have a seven-minute grace period, which is unusually strict, particularly given how difficult their location is to navigate. I was not given clear instructions about where to park. Once you arrive, there is no sign identifying the studio by its name anywhere that I could see. The building signage/directory was in Korean, and I could not find English signage identifying the studio. As someone who does not read Korean and had never been there before, I had no obvious way of knowing where the business was located. I called approximately eight minutes after my appointment time while I was already parking and explained that I was there and that finding the parking had been confusing. I was told that my appointment had already been canceled because they only offer a seven-minute grace period. So, to be clear: I was a first-time customer who had booked approximately 30 minutes earlier, was physically at the location and parking, and was ONE MINUTE beyond their grace period--and they had already canceled my appointment. On top of that, they never notified me that they canceled it. No call. No text. Nothing. Had I not called them myself, I would have parked, gone inside, tried to navigate a building where their studio was not clearly identified to me, and apparently only then discovered that my appointment had been canceled. I completely understand businesses having late policies. What I don't understand is having such a rigid seven-minute cutoff while providing a first-time customer with inadequate information for navigating an unfamiliar and confusing location--and then offering absolutely no understanding or flexibility when that customer is already there and parking one minute beyond the cutoff. The way the phone conversation was handled was probably the most disappointing part. There was no attempt to understand the situation, help, accommodate me, or even acknowledge the confusion. It was simply that my appointment had already been canceled. The interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessarily rude. Policies are one thing; customer service is another. If you're going to have an unusually strict seven-minute grace period, then provide first-time customers with exceptionally clear parking and arrival instructions and notify them if you're canceling their appointment. A little communication, courtesy, and reasonable flexibility would have completely changed this experience. Instead, they lost a brand-new customer before I ever even made it through the door. I will not be returning.

I was a regular customer here for over a year and even recommended it to friends because the service used to be reliable. Unfortunately, over time, I experienced several scheduled appointments where I waited anywhere from 45 minutes to nearly 2 hours to get started. It often felt like walk-ins were being prioritized over scheduled clients. There was little communication, no real apologies, and overall poor time management. It's disappointing to be treated this way after being such a consistent and supportive client, and I've decided to take my business elsewhere. I suggest you save your time and do the same. read more

Staff member started on my pedicure. Other staff were busy with their customers. She did a nice job on my toes. I'm pleased with her service, nail color, her attention to detail and cleaning. Thank you. However, my experience with staff member who did my manicure, was an unpleasant experience and therefore, I will never return to this location. She began to remove the old gel from my nails. A woman with no appointment enters the salon inquiring about nail services. The lady working on my nails begins to ask her questions about what services she was seeking. I heard her quote the customer afterwards, around $80 and to come back in twenty minutes. I thought "wow. Is she going to rush her job on my nails for a walk-in asking for extensive services?" Yes, that's what happened. I noticed a change in her pace while working on my nails. She was rushing through manicure. During this time I asked her about payment. Last time I came in was December of last year, and paid with Zelle but usually prefer to pay cash. Asked if they give receipts for cash payments. She said no. I usually ask for receipts to track my expenses. Then asked her is it just Zelle they accept or credit card as well. She said Zelle no cc. Normally don't care for Zelle, prefer Venmo so to pay with cash back. A very nice perk of Venmo. She thought I was getting gel and I said "oh no, not today. Just regular. I'll be back another time for gel." I'm not sure what caused a change in her mood and demeanor but she gets up to get nail polish, comes back to me, gets her phone out and says to me: "You pay now on Zelle for both jobs before I start second one. Before I do job on your nails." The moment was unpleasant, awful feeling, and I was startled. Her tone in delivering her message was very different than from her speech prior to this incident. Her vibe was negative, disrespectful, and rude. I am a patient and graceful person. In that moment I decided to go with Zelle and not give her my cash. I brought $200.00 with me to pay for nail salon and other errands afterwards. I kindly said "ok, sure. Give me a second. "I then showed her the name already saved on my Zelle to confirm it was correct and to show her that this paying customer has paid them via Zelle. She then asked to see transaction after payment so she can take a photo. Cost for regular pedi was $40 and regular mani $30. I was not told to pay in advance on my last visit in December. She did my gel pedi during that visit. She proceeded to polish my nails and did a messy job because the walk-in individual came back exactly in twenty minutes. She finishes her sloppy job on my nails and begins to work with new customer. She comes back to me and before she adds a clear coat I asked her to clean the corners because they were messy so she does. Each moment she speaks to me it's short and as if she is upset. Perhaps she's miserable doing what she does for a living and takes it out on others. Not sure how she would have finished a gel job in twenty minutes if she did a poor job with a regular manicure. I sat for a few minutes to give my nails time to dry. Called an Uber for my next appointment and contemplated if I should even tip this staff member. All my years I have always tipped. Being in the customer service industry for years, I know how important tips are and what they mean to us. I prefer to tip in cash. As my Uber was approaching, I slipped on my sandals, pulled out cash to tip the individual for my pedicure. I was not going to forget her and her quality of service. This is my second awful experience at this nail salon. What they do not know is I was coming here for some time years ago when they first opened. It's walking distance from my home. Would get my eyebrows done, nails, massage chairs were pleasant. Place was always packed. Until one time, a staff member working on my toes asked me to complete her online English exam that was due while doing my pedicure. That shook me and I should have reported her to her manager and posted a Yelp review. Now I'm doing both. Also, a tip for those who do gel pedi and gel mani: it ruins nails! I noticed that after the old gel was removed, there's these lines on my nails as if nails are breaking. Should have taken photos to share on this post.
