I am dusting off my Yelp pen and paper to warn people from coming here or any other Gen restaurant location until corporate and management figure it out. Preface: I do not blame the line staff (servers, bussers, kitchen workers, etc) because they don't know what they don't know, and we can't expect staff to do a good job when there appear to be no quality guidelines or expectations in place from those actually in charge. Bussers were bussing and servers were surviving. Chapter 1 - Food: Everything came out messily and with zero care and taste. Meat was presented dangling off the plate, with strips of pure fat included with the beef belly and galbi as thin as a piece of paper. Banchan/side dishes were given with sauce spilled onto the sides, overly sweet and with a slight funk that can't be explained as fermentation. I could not taste potatoes in the potato salad and the green tea salt was wet. The soybean soup tasted like water with some soy sauce - even the zucchini in the soup was not cooked through. Chapter 2 - Service: I truly believe our server tried, but you can only do so much when your section for the night is half the restaurant. Drinks were not refilled, meats came out before side dishes and drinks, and grills were left to burn in between changes. All the while, managers were seen chatting it up in the corner of the restaurant, bar staff waited around an empty bar, and another employee spent all their time walking around trying to upsell jello pouches to customers. Chapter 3 - Ambience: Ventilation who?! Gen doesn't know her. You could see the clouds of smoke stagnant around the restaurant. The checkbooks were sticky and the plates dirty. Parting Words: If only a fraction of these things happened tonight, you could chalk it up to a bad night. I've worked in restaurants in high school and college, and I know what it feels like to work during an off shift and have customers assume that this is what it's always like. However, I firmly believe this is not the case here. This is a systemic issue that is likely the result of corporate neglect and mismanagement and a management staff that is not trained and/or held to expectations. This is difficult, the servers hands are tied to serving every dish. Im currently sitting here with my meat cooked and finished but the sides havent arrived. Other kbbq spots have a salad bar where you can get your own so you can enjoy the food. But dinner hour is ridiculous. The grill is burning the table is full of dishes and the server cant get to us. Once you get your sides they're tiny. Youll finish them before the meat is cooked or you cant enjoy them together. I have to ask for salt and oil and everything is just lagging. I do not recommend Gen for anyone who has a passion of KBBQ and has to wait for their desires to be filled. Eating here is like watching football. I've been here a couple of times, but after my most recent visit I'm not sure if I'd return again. On the plus side, it's a pretty good value for KBBQ, and the meat quality is decent for the price. That said, service during my last visit was very slow and the restaurant didn't feel very clean. The floor under our table was noticeably slippery from oil, and the ventilation system didn't seem strong enough, so a lot of smoke lingered in the air while we were cooking. Food-wise, everything was okay overall. The banchan were good, and I liked that they offered rice paper. However, the rice paper took quite a while to come out. My favorite item is the hotteoks -- I always end up ordering at least four for myself because they're that good. Overall, it's an affordable KBBQ option, but the service, ventilation, and cleanliness could definitely be improved. read more

Food comes out at random, often much of it before the drinks are even delivered. Excellent service from Sebass!! He works hard and is on point. There was a shift lead or manager who also changed out of his business attire to serve & buss which was cool to see. These two gentlemen worked well together to give everyone great service. We did the standard dinner and boy oh boy there are lots of options to choose from! We snagged a couple appetizers and selected four meets. It was delicious and felt insanely full afterwards. The place is loud, busy and smells like a family bbq. Gen Korean BBQ was really good. I got the bulgogi and it had a lot of flavor, especially once it hit the grill. But the bulgogi fries were honestly my favorite, crispy, a little messy, and just really good. I also tried one of their Capri Suns, they have different flavors and I got the piña colada. First of all, this is not our first time dining at Gen--we've been to several locations before and usually have a great experience. Unfortunately, this particular location in McKinley, Corona was very disappointing. The service was horrible. Our server was rude, not friendly at all, and didn't even smile. If you're in the service industry, basic respect and courtesy go a long way, especially when dealing with customers. Sadly, that was completely missing. We also spoke to the manager regarding the brisket, which was tough and rubbery, but she didn't seem to care at all. No concern, no effort to resolve the issue. To make things worse, our server went on break and told us someone would cover--but no one ever came to check on us or take our orders. We were left trying to get anyone's attention, and even when I was clearly waving for help, the staff ignored us. Orders took forever--at least 10-15 minutes each time--even though the restaurant wasn't busy. My husband asked for a Diet Coke refill and it never came until we had to ask again. We love Gen Korean BBQ, but this location was a huge letdown. Poor service, lack of attention, and no accountability. I've been to plenty of their locations but it actually my first time at the Corona location which is the closest to where I live. I went with my lady and a close friend of mine. We arrived around 1PM for their lunch all you can eat special. The place was really dead and we weren't acknowledged for 5 minutes or so. We only knew they were open because there was one couple eating. Positives: Food was good and that might be the only thing Negatives: * Small portions that we ate quick after cooking. Was enough for two bites each person . Then we'd wait another 5-10 minutes for the next round. * Check my pictures for the cheese and corn they brought. STINGY . * We were given the check and told "No Rush". They proceeded to rush us by asking if the check was ready every couple of minutes. We were asked like 5 times before she said "I actually need to close your check now". Made things super uncomfortable so we left. I couldn't even finish my drink. This location is definitely a different experience.. the food and everything was still great, our server was actually great that night too. But the weight was horrendous. I've never had to wait almost 3 hours. We put ourselves on the waitlist. They said about two hours, which is fine, but then we waited outside for almost felt like an additional hour. There was four more people tell us, but yet people were still coming in and getting sad while we were still forth on the waitlist we had to keep checking in with the hostess trying to figure out why we haven't moved in 30 to 40 minutes. So finally, we went back in there and said this is crazy. This is not OK and they finally sat us. Never had this issue. The Rancho location is definitely better in terms of the wait. Took my daughter out for New Year's Eve dinner and she wanted Korean bbq. Gen was one of the few close by that was still open so we made the drive. There was no wait and we were quickly seated, took about 5-10 minutes before our server came to take our order. The meat order came out quickly. But there's something to note, usually when you order, your banchan (side dishes) comes out before your meat. It didn't come until we asked for it and were on our second order of meat. The rice bowl and dipping sauce didn't come out either. Truly was a let down and made the dining experience less enjoyable. There's a ton of Korean bbq out there ready to take your hard earned money. I've been to Gens all over Southern California but this is my first time here in Corona. It seemed to be more spacious and less "smoky" than others I've been to. We made it on a Thursday around 2pm so we saved some money by getting the lunch menu. Ordered the dumplings, and tried the little sweet pancakes for the first time. TLDR: It's an established franchise that has rested on its laurels. If you want a KBBQ spot, this is an option. However, I won't actively choose to come here. Food: I think what makes this restaurant disappointing is that the food is just okay. I've been to many Korean BBQ spots in my life, and a place like Gen should never be middle of the pack. Heck, the place charges like they're up there. The brisket was dry, and the beef belly was 75-80% fat after the first batch. The sirloin is a meal saver, but you can only eat it so much before you start wondering if it's the only good beef option. Pork belly was fine, and the shrimp was okay. Service: I'm not a fan of the rule of "4 orders at a time," and only the staff can take orders. We were a group of 4, and it took the busy staff in a full house at least 15 minutes to get back to us for more orders. We would go through 10 minutes sitting on our hands, wondering if the 90-minute timer would be observed or not. Thankfully, they didn't, so we actually got to eat food for 4 people. I don't blame the staff, and I don't blame the manager. I blame the system. Ambiance: It's whatever you'd expect in a korean bbq spot. This Gen is a very nice location, you walk inside and the aesthetic of the restaurant is very bright, modern, and sleek. We enjoyed how clean the restaurant is, and how quick and efficient all the staff were. The food is also great lots of delicious and fresh options for kbbq. Really great variety of drinks as well. So this was my first time at a Korean Barbecue and I loved it! Our party of seven came out and occupied two grills. Aside from the pork marinated in red wine (absolutely phenomenally delicious btw), I thought that the meat was a little bland. We had three dipping options but I don't feel like they fully brought out the flavor. I've tried Gen in multiple places including Arizona, socal, and even in Asia. It's basically a franchise. Food wise, dinner has a lot more options but is pricier. Lunch wise, it's not too bad. The service can be a hit or miss. There are some wait staff that would really make your experience wonderful while others are just there ..... So once you enter, they have long tables and booths.... You go up to the reception and basically line up. Once you're able to be accommodated, you get to pick your meats and sides and some appetizers. The location is very clean inside . I liked the mix of short and tall tables as well as large and small booths . Service was friendly and items came in a timely manner. We chose the AYCE premium . I appreciated the crisp side salad along with the sides and extra plates. The choices were good, even a nice selection of appetizers that are included . The bulgogi was my favorite - it has great flavor and was tender . The steak however was almost inedible . It was extremely tough ... the corn cheese was also lacking ... I was given a very small amount of cheese that doesn't melt well for dipping . The Soju capri drink was fun to look at but very sweet so it wasn't for me but the beer was cold ! The service was one of the worst me and my table have ever experienced. We came in as a big party however our server gave us side eyes not serving us at all sometimes not even giving us all of our drinks while fully serving other peoples tables without any time problems. Finally when we ordered food and drinks for our next round, we had to wait from 30 mins to an hour for it. Eventually, when I went to the bathroom, all I saw was the workers talking to each other in the kitchen or either sitting at the cashier register on their phones. Really unacceptable I just can't believe this place no wonder why my food was taking so long, they were just talking to each other the entire time. Note that their service was only terribly slow towards us which just shows their disregard and disrespect for me and my table. Additionally they they didn't even give any sauce or appetizers we've been waiting for. We've stayed here for at least four hours without even being full because of the terribly slow service. I've visited this restaurant twice this summer, and both times were a letdown. The inconsistency in service is just so bad. Things start off promising and the service is friendly and attentive at first, but then they disappear completely. You're left trying to flag someone down while staff members actively avoid making eye contact and no one is willing to help. Our waiter was kind but clearly overwhelmed, managing more tables than any one person reasonably could, at least eight at once. It's just not sustainable, and it shows. We ended up waiting endlessly for basic things like condiments, sides, and even meats we ordered. You would run out of one thing and the meal just didn't hit because it was missing a key component. The food itself is good, but what's the point if the experience is this frustrating? My advice would be to not overfill the restaurant. The staff should only be given what they could handle. Is there a manager? I'm not sure I saw one. Someone should be checking in, keeping things in order and supporting where needed. Teach your staff to be assertive and help when they see customers looking around. read more

Even after politely asking him and several other staff as we assumed he just forgot, we repeatedly followed up aftrr 15 min would pass. Ordered a cabernet, received chardonnay.
