We had Brian, Moi, and Benji, and they were over the top awesome! They were super attentive, and we never waited more than 30 seconds for anything, and this was peak time on a Friday night. Thank you all for helping us to celebrate an amazing 27th Anniversary! Now to the part you are waiting for, the food! First it's All You Can Eat, and the options, quality of the meats, and the portion sizes are amazing! They offered us everything from Pork Belly to Long Ribs, Spicy Calamari to Wagyu Beef. What amazing dining option this was. Everything was so tasty, and so fresh and high quality. This is a great place for a couple, it a couple dozen friends and family! My Daughter and I were craving Gen and we happened to see a great BOGO deal offered through one of the delivery services so we said Yes, Please! because we just didn't have time to go out on this particular night. We were amazed at the different options. There is a 2 meats/2 sides size and we went with the larger 4 meats/3 sides. It's super cool because you get to pick from a wide variety of meats and you choose the sides that you want and even the sauces or green salt, even radish wraps for when you are eating it. It comes with a side of steamed rice and we were surprised by a bonus serving of Japchae. We chose Bulgogi, brisket, garlic chicken, and samgyeopsal (pork belly). The first three translated really well and were still warm and the right texture after riding in the car. The chicken even had some delicious char on it! The samgyeopsal was a teeny bit dry, but luckily, I had some Korean barbecue sauce at home that I dipped it into. Would we order this again? Definitely, it was very reasonable and super quick and tasted great. Does this mean we will never go to the restaurant again? It's disgusting and already ruins your appetite before you even sit down.Then the service is just painfully slow. We waited about 30 minutes just to get basic side dishes. After that, we finally got our first plates of meat and it was beyond disappointing. The menu says "thinly sliced," but what we got were huge, tough chunks of meat that were barely chewable. Completely false advertising. Trying to get simple things like extra rice paper or more sides is another nightmare. You can't even ask without waiting forever or being ignored. It honestly feels like a joke.By the time the next plate came out, we were done. We cooked what we had and left because the whole experience was just a mess. And don't even get me started on the bathroom absolutely gross. Toilet paper all over the floor, empty dispensers, and only one soap dispenser actually working. The galbi/kalbi short ribs has more fat content not trimmed and some of the meats has more tendons and steaks are bland and tougher cuts of beef. The service was fine. I used to love this place. We've been coming here for at least 10 years since it first opened. Over the years I feel like there's better places out there or the service is just isn't the way it used to be. The food is fine. It's not amazing, but it does the job. This is great if you're on the low carb keto diet because you can get all the protein you want They have a wide variety of menu items. The most recent additions we tried was the cilantro lime rice and the mango sticky rice. Both were pretty good. As far as proteins, I like: the brisket, beef short rib, garlic pork belly, bulgogi, and shrimp. I rarely get the chicken because it takes a while to cook and normally when I come, I come with people who are starving and eat fast. It's usually a casual outing when we go here, so I never really go out of my way to put on fresh clothes because you leave smelling like bbq. During our last visit, it was pretty disappointing. We were there for almost 2.5 hours including the 20-30 minute wait time. And not because we were hungry, but because we kept waiting for the food we ordered. The rice paper took nearly 2 hours to come. They need to work on better communication and better food prep. I'll probably come back but the service this last time was quite disappointing. read more

Absolutely dirty, disgusting environment. Wife and I had not been back to this location in years but were craving KBBQ so we stopped by for lunch. Was sat down at a dirty table with food bits and grease around the table from the last patrons. Then they provide discolored rice paper wrap that looked like it was either really old or left out for a really long time. The worst part: the serving utensils they plopped on our table -- the scissors had a nasty fur ball and hair clenched at tip (see photo). My wife and I didn't hesitate -- we just walked out without taking a single bite. We knew this just wasn't the same quality of Gen's that we've come to expect and still get from other locations like SGV. Be careful folks. If this is how they maintain their utensils who knows how badly they handle their food. P.S. Absolutely unacceptable service. We arrived today right when the restaurant opened and ordered from the all-you-can-eat menu. We only received two of the items we ordered, and then spent nearly two hours waiting for the rest. During that time, three different servers came to our table asking what we were still waiting for. We repeatedly told them the same items were missing, yet nothing was ever brought out. After almost two hours, we were finally told they were actually out of those items. How is a restaurant out of multiple all-you-can-eat menu items at opening? If those items weren't available, we should have been told before ordering instead of being left waiting for hours. The lack of communication, poor organization, and wasted time completely ruined our meal. I loved the mango tango dessert it was a warm crunchy wonton with sticky rice and a mango sauce. It was VERY packed but our waiter was trying his best. The sauces were standard and lacked strong flavor. The Cheese Kimchi Fried Rice was exceptional, ranking among the best I've had. Unfortunately, the Pineapple was less flavorful here compared to the Cerritos location, which was disappointing as I anticipated it to be a perfect end to my meal. The service is commendable, and the establishment maintains a high level of cleanliness. There is free parking everywhere since it is located in a huge shopping complex. My parents wanted to go to Gen after having a good experience with friends at another location. This wasn't my first time, so I already knew what to expect For what you pay, Gen does offer a wide range of options, and when things run smoothly, I usually have no complaints. It's not the best KBBQ, but it's USUALLY decent enough for the price. Today, though, was not a good experience--and I don't blame the servers. This felt like a management issue caused by understaffing. We came for lunch and arrived shortly before noon. On a non‑holiday weekday, I expected it to be slow and for the servers to have an easy shift. It was absolutely not slow, it was packed on a Wednesday at 11AM. Only part of the dining area was open, and from what I could tell, two servers and one busser were handling everything. About 30 minutes in, someone else jumped in--maybe a shift lead or manager--but he didn't add much. He mostly talked and only occasionally brought out food. You might wonder how I noticed all this. They sat my aging parents (who arrived 10 minutes before me) at a high‑top because they said those were the only non‑booth tables. My mom has trouble walking, so booths are hard for her--but from this uncomfortably tall table, we could clearly see two half‑bench, half‑chair tables that would've worked fine. One was even empty when we arrived. To make it worse, they put my parents on booster seats meant for kids, and our knees were basically touching the counter. Only later did someone mention there were shorter stools available. Why not tell us that upfront--or better yet, set out adult‑height stools instead of the super‑tall kid boosters? You made my parents climb into those seats, and now you want them to climb down and go hunt for a different stool themselves? This would normally be basic service, but the only person who mentioned the stools did so in passing while practically sprinting between tables. As I said, they were clearly understaffed for a busy lunch. When we finally got our order taken, the waiter lit the grill--but by the time the food arrived, it had already gone out. We sat there for a few minutes trying to flag someone down, and when we did, he told us we'd have to wait for the OTHER waiter because he didn't have a lighter. Why don't all your waiters have lighters? lol. Meanwhile, we'd been sitting there breathing in gas for who knows how long. The other waiter eventually comes over, lights the grill, and rushes off. We start putting meat on, except the grill is uneven and keeps spinning in the recess. I try lifting it, resetting it--nothing. I even tap it with the tongs--still nothing. So we take the meat off and wait AGAIN to flag someone down. When a waiter finally comes over, I point out the issue, tap the grill with my tongs, and of course it finally drops into place. Just my luck. Sigh. If the grill had been properly set, we wouldn't have lost another five minutes. And sure, five minutes isn't the end of the world, but this was the 4th five‑minute delay: the stools, getting our order taken, waiting for the grill to be relit, and then fixing the grill itself. Add it up and that's at least 20 extra minutes--not even counting the usual wait for food. As the meal went on, we never got refills on sides or water, and we didn't even get to order more meat beyond our initial four plates because it was nearly impossible to flag anyone down. When we DID ASK, the extra meat never arrived. They stopped by once to change the grill after we finished two plates, but then the grill went out again and we had to wait yet again. When the waiter came back to relight it, the grill got stuck in the ring, so he waved someone over to replace both pieces and rushed off. We asked for more food when he returned--he acknowledged it, but nothing ever came. I don't think my parents were full, but they were either done or had lost their appetite. They didn't complain because they felt bad for how overwhelmed the staff was. I felt the same way in the moment, but looking back, it really wasn't good service. It definitely felt like other tables were prioritized over us--maybe because my parents were so patient and accommodating. Who knows. As I said at the beginning, the food is decent enough for the price but if you DONT GET FOOD BECAUSE SERVERS ARE TOO BUSY OR FORGET, then you really aren't getting any value regardless of price or quality. While I'm giving this visit 1 star, their service and food are normally a solid 3 or 4--when they actually take your order, bring the food, and set up the grill correctly. I honestly wonder if the service would've been different had I come with friends instead of my parents. Larger parties and tables with small kids definitely got more attention. I was originally going to give 2 stars, but as I recapped the whole meal, it hit me just how poor the service really was. And the only reason we didn't speak up more was because my parents were so patient. read more

When you have a large party the food goes quickly once you receive the order and cook it, then you have to wait for a while to place your next orders. First we were seated at a booth where there literally was a puddle under the table from apparent mopping so we were able to move to a bigger booth. The appetizer fish katsu was way overcooked with a hard exterior. There wasn't much variety to the banchan/sides. I kept ordering more kimchi and creamy potato salad. The japchae was plain and disappointing compared to other Korean restaurants. The beef bulgogi was good and the galbi had pretty good flavor but was a bit tough. The others ordered honey chicken, deep fried mandu/dumplings, Korean fried chicken, calamari steak, etc. Vanessa and George were very attentive and nice and checked on us frequently. We got our rice probably 1 hour after we requested probably 4 or 5 times. Our main server was not good. We had other servers who helped him were so much better. But they weren't the best either. It took them some time to get more water, our food, etc. The fire on the grill went out a few times and the servers would lower the heat to the point that it was not hot enough to cook the meats. Overall, my family and I were disappointed in the service. We were there for about 2 hours and we watched other customers come after us and leave before us. Came back today, 2/8/26 to celebrate my birthday month. To our surprise, it wasn't busy on a Sunday lunch time. The normal wait during Saturday and Sunday is always at least 30-90 minutes. Then we realized it's Super Bowl Sunday. If you're like us who doesn't like to wait to get seated, come during these times. Service as always was top notch by Aris. Always friendly, quick to get anything we request for, patient and always a good experience when we are seated in Aris' area. We love the honey soy beef belly, kalbi, honey chicken, japchae, mandu, bulgogi fries which is new and delicious! Must try new item. Being a chain, the food is similar and NOT my favorite when it comes to KBBQ, however, the service here is HORRIBLE!! First off, the waiter brings us two orders of meat without tongs, so we had to wait to flag him down before we could even start cooking!!! Looks like the wait staff is plentiful, however, they are extremely UNORGANIZED and there is also lack of proper communication with the kitchen even though it seems like they are entering your order on the computer. We ordered shrimp, specifically WITHOUT heads... which never came, so I reminded our waiter, Jesus, who had disappeared for "awhile". Another waiter told us he was busy with 4 tables. Um, okay... Finally a waitress brought us two plates of shrimp WITH HEADS. Also, the shrimp was NOT cleaned (see photo) ...so I lost my appetite for it. Had to ask multiple times for extra napkins and water. The waiters seem to not bus dishes or be able to refill our drinks, so dirty dishes start piling up. Two guys passed by with a cart bussing dirty dishes, but neglected to grab ours, without me asking if he would please clear the dirty dishes. There were six of us, so one round of banchan didn't last long. I asked for another round of banchan. Jesus, the waiter even suggested he ask for a double order since there were six of us. Never came. Potato salad resembled mashed potatoes with two corn kernels in it. Yes, two, as if they were strategically placed on the potato salad. We had to ask more than once for almost everything we ordered. I had to finally just go wash my hands due to lack of napkins. The floor was greasy, to the point I didn't feel safe. Got to the restroom and decided to wipe off the bottom of my shoes. Come to find out there was NO SOAP DISPENSER in the restroom (see video) Kim chi fried rice was one of the first items we ordered, but it came when we were ready to order dessert. Food was actually ok, but one of our coke refills was very watered down but since it takes so long for the service, we didn't bother asking the server to change it. We had a really disappointing experience at Gen Korean BBQ House. Never coming to this location. The customer service was honestly some of the worst I've experienced in a while. We had to repeat ourselves multiple times for almost everything we asked for, and every time someone would finally come check on our table, they had already forgotten what we previously asked for. It took forever just to get basic utensils so we could even start cooking our food. On top of that, every time we tried to cook meat, it would take almost 10 minutes just for the grill to properly start cooking it when normally it takes maybe 2 minutes at most at any other KBBQ spot.
