This bakery has very stale pastries and is so overrated and over priced. Today, being Sunday you would think the pastries would be fresh, but no they couldn't be more stale. This is probably the last time I go there. It's just not worth the HIGH PRICES. The pasticotti were beyond stale, they were totally inedible. I had a coupon so I purchase 6-7 pastries and we all had issues with them. I just don't understand it. They should just make smaller batches. Usually love this bakery but has a crappy experience there yesterday. My mother who lives in Florida is visiting & she loves the pignoli cookies from here. I stopped in & asked a young man at the counter if they had any. I did not see them in the cookie case. He said he had no idea & did not ask anyone. He proceeded to ignore me. I looked around & decided to asked a twenty something guy who just finished with another customer. He got very snippy with me and said that in the future I should call first to see if they have them & that it's hit or miss. Ummm ok. I have always been a lover of Italian rum cake for my birthday. My parents always got it from Paterson Pastry Shop & I've tasted many other's bakery versions. None cld compare UNTIL NOW...This cake is so fresh & light...so much better than Paterson Pastry's heavy rum cake. It is a melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Icing is creamy and not sweet. So the story goes.....I went in to order two cakes for my daughter's 1st birthday party. I was greeted by a young gentlemen who was friendly. I said I'd like to place a cake order, and that I would like a full fondant cake as the main cake, and then a very small "smash cake" for my daughter with just regular icing. I showed him a sample on my phone. He brought it back to someone in the back to get me a price quote. The gentleman was friendly, but seemed a bit confused as to some of the questions I asked. He said to email the cake decorator and explain everything you are looking in the cake order. He took my order down on paper with my phone number, etc. I wasn't asked to leave a deposit, or was given any order slip, etc. I emailed this person when I got back home with my cake order with photo samples, etc. I said in my initial email that I would like somewhere on the fondant cake to read Happy Birthday with my daughter's name, or just my daughter's name somewhere on the cake at least. We went back and forth through the emails clarifying details, etc. The day comes where we go to pick up the cakes...My husband went into the bakery, and when the cakes were brought out, there was no "Happy Birthday" on the cake or my daughter's name anywhere on it. My husband complained stating they didn't follow directions per the email. He said that those instructions were not given to him. Apparently, the person I emailed was supposed to forward directions, and did not tell him that. My husband was upset, and the man behind counter was rude and defensive. He wrote her name on the cake board to somehow make up for it, but we still weren't too happy about it. On a positive note, the cake decorator did a beautiful job on the cake itself. read more

Stopped over for a birthday cake. Took walnut chocolate moose cake. Was really tasty. We loved it.

The cake was great, but there was not that much of it. There was at least as much frosting in our cake as there was actual cake. I wouldn't have minded this if the frosting was good. We asked for chocolate frosting, and what we got was a cake with very light chocolate frosting that was very sweet and had little flavor. I was disappointed as this 8 inch cake cost $22. I could have bought the same quality cake at Shoprite and saved my money. read more

Used to love this bakery until I went to Packanack bakery. Gencarelli's crumb buns and boston creme donut really tasted fake, like chemicals. Quality not as good as it used to be. Compare their quality to Packanack's and you will understand. read more

All of my family and friends love this place. THEY ARE GREAT! I recently went in with a custom design for a themed cake and they were able to make an amazing cake with only two days notice! Pastries are OK. Cannolis are good... if they fill it right. Many times the middle of the cannoli is empty. Sometimes customer service is average, but sometimes they leave you hanging. Once I went into the store... no other customers were there, but the workers (including the owner) just talked to each other, went inside the baking room, came out, etc. Took 10 minutes for the owner to ask me what I wanted. I was craving a brownie and had a weak moment while running into the neighboring Walgreens so I stopped inside for a quick fix. I bought a a couple of brownies and Napoleons. On my drive home I decided to stuff my face and boy did I regret that. One bite of the brownie and I started to gag...it tasted like a terrible mix of moth balls and chemicals. Can't really understand why people recommend this bakery. I've tried their peach pie which had no discernible peaches, just a mash of peach flavored stuff, and thick, tasteless dough. Poor customer service & business planning, tried to order my thanksgiving pies to pick up on Wednesday night but was told by the snooty counter help that they would be putting out enough pies on Thursday and will not take my order for Wednesday pick up. During the holiday season, there is never enough counter help so the line is out the door literally. Additionally, the time I will spend on line at the bakery I can spend traveling to my destination. I ordered a communion cake and what a disappointment on all levels. First, when I called to order the cake the women told me she was busy (it was mid afternoon on a Wednesday) and could I call back the next morning. I didn't order anything fancy, a basic sheet cake with a cross and writing and bavarian cream filling. The cake was probably the worst I had ever had. It was dry and tasted stale. You could not tell the difference between the chocolate cake and vanilla cake because it all tasted the same...bland. The writing on the cake and minimal decorations was very sloppy. It was for 50 people and not one piece of cake was eaten. Just a few bites and my guests pushed it away. I have ordered cakes from the best bakeries in NYC to Stop and Shop/Shop Rite and I would take a Shop Rite or Stop and Shop bakery cake over this one any day of the week. I don't often rate New Jersey joints since I live in Staten Island and work in Brooklyn but I have to in this situation. Paid a visit the other day to our Wayne office and wanted to get some desserts for my colleagues. Growing up in Bensonhurst, I was exposed to the finest Italian bakery. I'm an expert you can say. I purchased a whole assortment of items here and everything was delicious and fresh. And the lady behind the counter was such a sweetheart. So friendly, accommodating and patient (which is required when I'm trying to select items in a bakery). Reminds me when I was a kid and you'd walk into the old Italian bakeries and how the women would smile and give the little kids a cookie. The negative reviews come from fools who will give 5 stars to Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds and other franchises which I'd never step into who sell mass produced, commercialized junk. This place deserves the appropriate accolades period. read more
