To the people in hot prepared foods: I wanted to take a moment to congratulate your prepared foods department on accomplishing something I didn't think was possible: making chicken completely inedible. This afternoon my wife purchased two portions of your "Harvest Chicken" from the hot foods counter. When she brought it home, we sat down expecting dinner. Instead, we were treated to what can only be described as a culinary experiment in dehydration. I didn't realize chicken could actually reach the texture of corrugated cardboard, but your staff has apparently mastered that technique. Large sections were so hard that even a fork had trouble getting through them, which is an impressive achievement if the goal was to create building materials rather than food. It's honestly a shame, because an animal had to give its life for that meal, only for it to be cooked into something no human should reasonably be expected to eat. I have seen more care put into kindergarten cooking projects. In the end, most of it went straight into the garbage, which seemed to be the most appropriate place for it. For comparison, a stop at Burger King would have been a noticeable upgrade in quality. You may want to take a look at what's happening behind that counter, because if this is the standard being served to customers, something has gone very wrong. read more

Gourmet Market. Family owned and operated for 50+ years! My family members in the area love The Market Basket so we had to stop and order lunch. The deli section was packed on a Tuesday at 12:30pm, and they had the staff to handle it. We grabbed a number and a menu, and we were helped quickly (the sandwich and wrap menus are extensive so recommend checking them out online in advance). We ordered: Two custom turkey sandwiches and the breaded chicken club (this was the winner!), and a pre-made Reuben panini heated/pressed (order the panini at their separate counter). All sandwiches other than the panini come with a bag of chips too. A substantial sandwich and a bag of chips for $12 is a deal! The deli is full of deliciousness: fresh mozzarella balls, chicken cutlets, prepared veggies... plus there's a wall of prepared meals (think salmon and veggies, lasagna...) and another of prepared fresh salads. We took home two delicious salads too: beets and spinach, as well as Greek. They were plenty to share among four of us with our sandwiches. If we lived in the area, we'd definitely visit The Market Basket more! And they cater! read more

The quality of food here is usually excellent, and the employees in the departments are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. However, the experience at checkout is noticeably lacking. Cashiers often do not greet customers or make eye contact, which detracts from the overall experience. Improving customer interaction at the registers would go a long way toward matching the high standards found elsewhere in the store. I don't want to generalize, but based on my last two visits, the checkout experience was very disappointing--no smile, no greeting, and no engagement. Beware of expiration dates!!! So I love this place. It doesn't stop me from being here 5x/week. The prepared foods are amazing. I've had them All. Their homemade red sauce is truly authentic. Their pulled pork and Mac and cheese is insane. Cuts of beef are overpriced but good. Sushi is fresh but overpriced. Everything is overpriced here. Let's get that straight. they take advantage of the wealthy neighborhood. They excel at everything except expired products and organic options. To the store manager...It's 2025. It's a very intelligent shopper in Franklin Lakes with health conscious ways. I would get better with organic. Also the expiration thing is awful. I go five days a week. Each time I pick up something expired. Never fails. Last week olives were a month and a half expired. It's Been this way for 5 years now. I've told them many times but no improvement. My favorite thing was the cheese raviolis. We had members who were gluten free, and they were fully fed. The decor was set up in the exact way that I wanted it to be. The tent company works with them and that also was perfect. They dropped everything off and picked it up perfectly. They were on time with the food and appetizers. The dessert was amazing. We would use them for ALL of our weddings of my siblings in the future. I bet even some of our friends would use them. I've been coming here for over 20 years (scary) but after moving out of the area I'd forgotten how good this place was. They say you can never go back but in this case you can. We ordered our roast beef for Christmas, bought a ton of prepared foods: the chicken franchise and rosemary potatoes are still fire (!!!! So good !!!!) as are the deli sandwiches, brownies, fruit tarts and cheeses. I just popped back on Sunday to buy ingredients for my healthy January including some pre-made salads, grilled chicken and marinated kebabs. . My clients wanted to get lunch from this location and when I arrived I seen it was a supermarket with a decent size deli that served food. I parked in the lot and walked in. I picked several sandwiches and for myself I got the shrimp, rice and vegetables. I paid at the register and left. I have more than several times come to the market basket for sandwiches ! I loved the Ruben even though higher priced than others sooo good ! Not this last time ! Not at all! The bread was not toasted and the meat and sauerkraut was not done correctly ! it was a mess ! The person was not qualified to be making these sandwiches . Great Food, poor catering experience. My sister recently contracted with the Market Basket to cater her wedding. The wedding was held at a unique venue (a theatre in Pompton Lakes) and although the Market Basket and specifically George the head of catering) was told of the venue and its limitations, he assured my sister that they could do the job. Like I mentioned, the food was great, it was the attitude of the servers, and their not following the specific instructions given to them regarding service, especially the bar service. The event turned out very nice, despite the attitude of George and his staff. There was also in issue in which they did some damage to the facility that they denied, however camera's proved them wrong. read more

Being a customer for over 25 years to get some snippy associate to call me a liar IS INSANE! This is by far my favorite supermarket out there! It's small, and has top quality stuff. Its truly an experience for sure. The unfortunate part is that it's 55 minute drive from us but don't mind coming here once a month. Their Italian sandwiches are by far the best I have ever had! Dropping my review down a few stars. Last weekend I decided to purchase a small container of crab dip for a whopping $10.99. We were so disappointed that this was so bland, we had to season it ourselves. Our guests weren't too impressed either with the Market Basket after tasting this. I go back and forth with them. It's a love hate thing but I always go back it's like the mafia they keep sucking me back in! The guys that work in the produce department are great ! They are always the highlight of my visits. So friendly and personable. And they do an amazing job. Also the manager makes his own pickles which are amazing. They aren't cheap at $10.99 but worth every cent. I don't find the other departments that great however. I actually hate when I see something delicious that I want in the prepared foods section because they usually are crabby . I do have to say the lunch special is great. You get a main and two sides for about 11 dollars. If I don't feel like dealing it's them I head over by the premade soups . They make a vegan health soup that I'm now addicted to . They always have about 6 different types of soups . I also head for the pre pack salads. Great healthy choices and fresh! I did have a problem with them when we ordered our mechanic a gift basket . It was there a day late and they never attached the note so he had no idea it was from us so we weren't too pleased. All in all I do suggest a visit their food really is great! read more

Received a gorgeous basket but the products in the basket had a very short expiration date. The cheese, the dips all expire literally in a week. You need to check expiration dates before you put in basket. The basket cost $150, it really isn't great to have to throw items away that expire soooo soon!!! read more

Being a girl from NYC, my standards are very high. I have bought food and tasted catered food from this market for 10 years. The shrimp cocktail is superb. There are so many things I enjoy from here. We usually buy some of their daily prepared meals and it's enough food for 2 in one meal. The one thing to beware of.... the eggplant ratatouille is delicious but way too spicy. We also just tried General Tso's chicken prepared dinner and needed to throw out the chicken... way too spicy. We still love this market and will stick to the turkey dinner and the chicken Marsala ...and the brisket in gravy was also spectacular! If you read this...
