We had breakfast at the restaurant, it was just perfect we adjusted to our European taste. They accommodate us. With fresh orange juice squeezed, black coffee, decaf tea . Granola. Oats, berries and honey for my husband. Toast with butter and jam for me. Just perfect with full panoramic views of the lake! Nights dinner at the restaurant very good service, food could use a little bit of a more refined hand . Overall very nice. Most importantly everyone is so committed to the hotel. Very nice to watch them working as one

The French Country Inn is a quaint, older hotel located right on beautiful Lake Como. The setting…read moreis lovely, and it shares a parking lot with an excellent restaurant. While the property has charm, it is in need of some maintenance. Shortly after we arrived, we flushed the toilet in our room and it began leaking from the base, soaking the bathroom floor. The staff was gracious and promptly moved us to two adjoining rooms on the second floor, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, while moving our luggage to the new rooms, my mother tripped over an exterior carpet runner that had significant ripples and uneven areas throughout. It created a serious tripping hazard. She fell hard enough that I later took her to the emergency room, where she was treated for bruises and other injuries. I immediately reported the incident to the manager, Kevin, showed him photos of my mother's injuries, and expressed my concerns about the condition of the carpet. What disappointed me most was the lack of response afterward. At no point did he ask us to complete an incident report, take photographs, inquire about my mother's condition, offer assistance with medical expenses, or explain what steps would be taken to address the hazard. The person who showed the most concern was Sarah, a waitress in the restaurant. When we told her what had happened, she was shocked that no incident report had been completed. She immediately helped us document the situation, requested photos so the matter could be escalated, and genuinely expressed concern for my mother's well-being. Sarah's compassion and professionalism were greatly appreciated. During the remainder of our stay, we encountered Kevin several times. Unfortunately, he never asked how my mother was doing or offered any form of follow-up. I also requested a copy of the security video from the exterior cameras, both verbally and in writing, but never received it. Before leaving, I spoke with Kevin again and expressed my disappointment regarding the lack of empathy and follow-through. The only response I received was that new exterior carpeting had been ordered. While I am glad corrective action may be underway, there were temporary measures that could have been taken immediately to reduce the hazard, such as cutting out the ripples, securing the carpet, or taping down the affected areas. The property itself has a beautiful lakeside location and attractive grounds. My concern is not with the setting, but with how a guest injury was handled. I only wish management had demonstrated the same level of care and compassion that Sarah showed throughout the situation.

This is our second time here over the years. I doubt we will be back. So many things wrong here…read more 1) Our room for one night (lake view) was $396 with taxes and fees. For that price this better be a 4 star hotel - it isn't. 2) They put a $300 hold on our card for "incidentals". $300!!!! 3) We were told and given a card that said it's "bug" season and to keep all doors closed. Didn't matter, we never opened ours and there were bugs everywhere 4) The TV was ridiculously small, had a remote from 1980 the size of a brick, had no cable, and no app access to do anything with. Awful 5) The porch was dirty and parts of the molding were rotting away. Not like we went out due to the bug warning, but it was too filthy to contemplate sitting in. Very bare and boring. 6) The decor is all over the place. Black faucets for the sinks, chrome for the shower, satin nickel for doorknobs, and some ghastly gold rings for the ceiling lights from the 70s. Whomever did this must have used spare parts from somewhere else. No consistency at all. 7) The girl at the check in counter hated her job. Clearly evident. Even said the incidental hold was for if we destroy something. I'm 55 - what is this college? 8) Check in is a crazy 4pm. Checkout is 11am or $50/hour penalty. You're getting only 19 hours of time. 9) You don't so much as get a bottle of water in the room or a salt packet for the tub so bring your own. That $1 it would cost the hotel would be nice I'm sorry Geneva Inn - you're dated, old, and worthy of a 2 star hotel. Having a good view is not worth the cost here or your hidden fees.

I had promised a review, and this is long overdue!…read more I wanted to take my wife for a romantic weekend, back to where I proposed to her 10 years ago, in Lake Geneva. We had a wonderful evening and breakfast at the TC Smith historic Inn. These days, classic B&B's are harder and harder to find. This one is the real deal! We had a lovely private bedroom, and a spacious private bath complete with whirlpool tub and shower. The owner, Maureen, is a real sweetheart! She knew that it was my wife's birthday, so she had fresh cut flowers and balloons in our room. That was a nice touch and very unexpected! We were her only guests that evening, so we had Maureen all to ourselves the following morning at breakfast. Breakfast was wonderful, with homemade pastries and multiple courses. I agree with another reviewer - Maureen knows the true meaning of "Hospitality". What a treat! Did I mention she is a sweetheart? I've read some other negative reviews about issues with dogs, clutter, etc... We experienced NONE of that. If you're looking for a "modern" or "contemporary" stay, book an airbnb. If you want to stay at a historic, classic inn that's true to it's time period, consider the TC Smith Historic Inn! Tell Maureen we sent you.

The mansion was built in 1856, making it the first mansion in Lake Geneva. The estate has been completely redone but charming details were kept. Along with a mansion where you can book a room, Maxwell also includes beautiful gardens, lounges, outdoor fireplaces, a heated pool, croquet and bocce ball. There is also a separate area in the back with motel rooms. Like I said, I was there for a lil' drink. There's a bar inside the mansion (Apothecary Bar) with all kinds of medical and druggist paraphernalia, with the space being a tribute to Dr. Philip Maxwell. But it's the speakeasy, which is accessible outside in the front of the house, that you'll want to visit. Ask for the password inside the mansion, and they will let you into a dark, below-ground bar. It's all decorated in prohibitionist flyers, and even the bartenders are dressed up in period costumes. It's a really cool and unique bar in Lake Geneva.

Focusing the review on the apothecary bar. You need to know the password to get in the speakeasy. A few days after we visited the speakeasy, we went in to try the apothecary bar to get some food and drink. A friendly helpful bartender, explained all their creative cocktails, shared the pub food that they offered, and answered questions. We ordered a flatbread pizza and a spinach artichoke dip as well as a couple of cocktails. They served us at a table where we sat on a couch in a room just across the hall and were quite comfortable. There are other rooms where you can go - not much seating in the actual apothecary bar.
