Gary the Appliance Man. He is reliable, honest, and fast! Our garage freezer died on a Saturday. I knew Gary doesn't work weekends, but I texted anyway. He replied with a simple, money/food-saving tip: get dry ice and place it on the top shelf to keep things cold. That advice alone saved us a lot of food. He told me Monday was fully booked and he'd try for Tuesday. Then late Monday afternoon he called to say he was on his way. He diagnosed and fixed the issue in about 45 minutes. I wasn't home yet Gary let me pay electronically, which made everything easy. Clear communication, practical guidance, solid workmanship and a heart for serving his community! Our 18 year old Kenmore developed a leak. We wanted to see if we could extend its life instead of creating more waste, and obtain a repair estimate. Gary, the owner, was able to work us in and not only gave us an estimate but fixed the leak at the same time for a very reasonable price. Gary responded quickly to my call about repairing our wine cooler. After seeing the photos and video I sent he came over the same day to further assess the problem. I appreciated that he said that changing the condenser was necessary but couldn't guarantee that the noise I was hearing would totally disappear. He immediately got to work, helped clear out cat hair that had made its way under the unit, and at the end cleaned everything up. GARY IS ETHICAL, HELPFUL, FRIENDLY AND RESPONSIVE! HE ROCKS!!! ***Update 4.5 years later. One week ago, I noticed our refrigerator and freezer temperatures were higher than normal. Of course I called Gary and he was at my house within 2 hrs. He was there for 15-20 min and couldn't fix the problem and gave me the number for GE repair. He DIDN'T CHARGE me anything for coming all the way to Danville! Then today, our tenants at the our rental condo in Dublin texted me that their refrigerator was also not cooling (bad week for refrigerators). Gary was out there within 1.5 hrs and troubleshot and fixed what he could. He called me right afterwards to tell me what was going on and charged me half of what GE charges to just come out and look at a unit, not including the repair. He sent the invoice right away and I'm tacking on some more $ as a thank you for everything! Aug 2013 Woke up on a Saturday am to find water all over our wood floor. Fridge and refrigerator were warming up but light was still on and motor running. While moving all the perishables to another unit, I called everywhere near us (Danville) but everyone on vacation, didn't work weekends, or didn't answer their phone. GE couldn't come out for 3 days, and Sears also...plus they sold me a $274 smart plan that includes service fee and parts up to $500 and warranty, refundable thank goodness because..... THEN I looked outside my area and Gen Refrigeration Service's Gary answered the phone and said he could come in 2 hours!! But first suggested that I try turning off the breaker for 5 min, then turn on and wait. IT'S COOLING!! He called me 1/2 hr before he said he could come out to check on how things were and said he could come right now. Well, things are still working and NO CHARGE; he thanked ME for calling him! I'm sending him a Starbucks gift card and reviewing him on all the websites I can find, plus posting on Facebook. I have never experienced such appliance repair service. We had an absolutely fabulous experience with Gary of General Refrigeration. I called and left a voice mail Sunday afternoon describing problem. We have a credenza style wine chiller. The refrigeration unit was not functioning. It is a Breezaire WKCE 1060 unit. Gary returned my call Sunday evening. Said he could come over Monday, late morning and have a look. He arrived, looked at the unit, discussed ideas and got to work. Within about an hour the unit was removed from the credenza, recharged, re-installed and up and running!!! Gary knocked it OUT THE PARK! Same day same hour service at my Oakland property, fixing a motor in my General Electric late model Home Depot purchased stainless refrigerator. He worked amazingly well with text communication and billing was easy check by mail. All the reviews are spot on from my experience. He was clear with what the problem was and while at the job site, confirmed the problem and cost with customer before executing the solution. What a wonderful experience! Last night I noticed my refrigerator and freezer not cooling as it should, plus was making intermittent clicking noises. This morning it was worse so I knew something was wrong. Unfortunately my home warranty service said that my refrigerator is not covered under my policy. Ugh. They gave me the names of two appliance repair companies they would recommend I call which I did and left voicemail messages. While looking up these two companies on Yelp, and noticing that both of them had very mediocre reviews, Gary and his company popped up with 5 stars across the board. Literally not any review less than 5 stars! It was also appealing that it appeared his specialty is refrigerators, not just appliances in general. I called at 7a fully expecting a voicemail, but he answered promptly. After explaining the problem, he said he believed he knew the solution (which was thankfully minor) and would be able to come out after his first appointment this morning. When he arrived a couple hours later, he was extremely professional and courteous and was able to determine his suspicions were correct. He had the part in his truck and was able to replace it quickly. He said that if I had not been able to have someone fix it today, I would have definitely lost all the food in my fridge and freezer. Called Gary at 8:20 this morning with ongoing freezer problems. He was here at 9:05 which was great because there was water on the floor and the light was off. He knew right away that it was a design flaw with the valve and proceeded to de-ice it and replace the valve that he had on his truck. Gary came out with last minute notice (on a Saturday) to help my tenants with a broken fridge. He Also had a very reasonable diagnostic fee which barely covered his time or fuel. Best thing is- he had the part on his truck and fixed it on the spot. Fridge is up and running again with minimal loss of food. Just awesome. Called because wife noticed a red glowing in the freezer of our side by side older model Kenmore fridge and was concerned. Spoke to a very friendly gentlemen. He asked for make and I described the problem. He immediately said it's not a problem and that it's the heater. Who would have thought that. In all my years of ownership of the fridge, I never saw it turn on. He explained the heater would go on maybe two times a day and it's to defrost the unit. I guess you do learn something new every day AND you gain confidence there are very honest service repair companies! The ice maker on my old fridge/freezer had "died" a year or so ago. I was told not to get a new appliance as the new ones are crap. So I lived with it. Then there was a small but persistent leak at the bottom of the unit. Based on yelp reviews I call General Refrigeration. He came out the same morning I called. He was knowlegable and professional. Woke up to a sudden loud mechanical motor noise in our refrigerator. I took off back and sound appeared to come from cooling fan, seemingly slightly touching housing as it spun. I called Whirlpool who referred me to local rep near Walnut Creek and said the rater for coming out would be about $80-$100 plus time to fix, etc. Called a few other local repair companies; one said $65 to come out and $300+ on any work. Finally called General Refrigeration (Yellow Pages) in Walnut Creek; talked to Gary. He quoted a much lower price to come out that day but we had an appointment; so we agreed on next day. He called at 7:45AM and said he would be there at 8AM. He was; Checked the back and found a slightly bent fan blade; straightened it out and all OK. Appeared that a resident mouse got whacked and bent the blade. Gary said no additional charge. He was polite, very personable, and could have charged for his time there but didn't.
