We had a Palo Verde. It was the centerpiece of our cactus garden at the ranch. It provided great shade in the summer. General Tree was hired to trim it. They butchered and killed it. When I expressed my concern for the tree, I was asked to "send photos". They are only a few miles away. They couldn't have cared less. The tree was eventually removed and replaced. $3000 loss. He then accompanied the crew on the day of service, arriving early to review the estimate and work to be done with me and Walter, the job supervisor. The work was accomplished in excellent form and in compliance with our stated wishes. The cleanup after the job was such that it could not be told that they had been here. General Tree just is not worth the hassle. They gave us a quote to trim our palm trees for $975.00, of which we agreed to. They did not perform the work quoted and then said they bid the work to low and could not do it for the price quoted. They were to remove the charges for the work not performed, $600.00 and send us an invoice. We received an invoice for $1,475.00. We called General Tree and were assured that they would send a corrected invoice. What we got was the same invoice resent. We called again and the finger pointing started within their organization. In short, we will no longer do business with General Tree. It is not worth the hassle. read more

General Tree Service was out today on Mountain Vista, just off of White Lane doing a City Contracted Job. They were trimming the trees on the sidewalk which are owned by the city. They let the branch trimmings in our back yard. I called the company and talked to Blanca who said that she would have them come out tomorrow morning and clean them up. Can't say enough good things about General Tree Service! Great service all round from Jeff the arborist and estimator, to the tree servicemen who did an excellent job removing our giant 60 year old beloved Modesto Ash which had sadly succumbed to bee bores and terminates. The tree servicemen even managed to help rescue two sets of baby birds from nests before the tree was felled. Their price was fair and reasonable for a job which took several hours and several specialized pieces of equipment. It was so refreshing to work with a company that treats its customers so well and fairly and takes great pride in its workmanship. read more

The owner came, showed me his certified arborist card, and never came back. His crew trimmed the wrong trees, didn't trim the trees agreed upon, and after refusing to pay, I contacted the better business bureau. 9-26-2918 I see that this company now has multiple crane trucks. They work all over downtown. I NEVER see the owner, the certified arborist, It is apparent that the workers have learned on the job and don't know the established guidelines arborists use for properly trimming trees. read more

Very bad experience. This company removed two trees from our front lawn and broke our sprinkler lines. With the mess they left and the amount of water, you know, they knew they broke our pipes. Didn't fix it, just left. We didn't have a choice of tree service, our HOA selected this company to do tree removals in out neighborhood. You could walk down several blocks and see all the mud from other broken sprinkler pipes. Why didn't they have a person with them fixing the pipes as they went along?! Horrible. Now we have to wait for them to schedule us for repair all the while we can't water our lawn for the flood it will bring.... Very unprofessional!! read more

I am just stunned at the level of professionalism and prompt service from these guys. The owner came on time to give me an estimate, the crew were here on time as well, and those two things alone get a 5 star rating these days! They were quick, nice, thorough, knowledgeable, and so very helpful. They went above and beyond what was expected, and I couldn't possibly be happier. By the way, I'm east of Tehachapi, and there was no hesitation coming up here from Bakersfield. I am pretty much still in shock. I am not used to this kind of care and service. This tree service called OSHA on my father's tree company because a client decided to hire my father's company at the last minute over theirs. So in order to retaliate, they went out of their way to do that. Even though they had no business in doing so. This company has a history of damaging property and refusing to take responsibility for what they have done. Recently had a large tree trimmed in the back yard and they knocked over and destroyed a section of brick fence next to the gate. There was no notification from the tree trimmers of this blunder, just a bill left for the service done. Calling them so far has proven further that they do not wish to deal with this issue. I regret ever recommending this company to a friend long ago. Multiple customers lost here. read more

I called several tree services in town and one of them didn't show up and another never called back. General Tree Service showed up 5 minuets early on the day they said they would. They did an amazing job thinning out 2 good sized fruitless mulberry trees and I'm picky about how my trees our cut. They cleaned up all of their mess and were really nice. To be clear I didn't hire general tree for any services, but my neighbor did. They did do a good job removing a old tree and fixed any fences they broke, but since I share a front yard with my neighbor they used it to access their back yard and to put the tree while it was loaded into the truck. Because they did this their Bobcat machine tore up part of my grass, loads and loads of twigs and small branches were left scattered all over my yard. Along with saw dust and small holes where they thru down big logs. Also after doing this My lawn is dead and after a week still hasn't turned green again. On top of all of this they didn't bother to tell any one that they would be the at 7:30 am to make a bunch of noise waking up my kids and maiming me stay home all day while they took the tree down because they needed access to my back yard. They also destroyed my neighbors ten rose bushes which they did not replace. Now I have tried to contact general tree about this but all I get is the run around. Either the boss is busy or they will call me back or even have me wait at home one morning so they can't see the state of my Lawn to which they never showed. I will amend this r review if I ever get any resolution for this but until then it stays up. *update* Its been another week and since trying to reach someone, I finally reached someone after a week of trying, the owner, and told him my situation and he said he did stop by to look at my lawn and found nothing wrong but maybe a stick or two. He basically talked down to me and acted like I was bothering him. He said he would send someone to clean up my lawn and its been a week and no one showed up. My lawn is still brown and dead, but I finally got all the sticks up after 2 weeks. Ive downgraded the stars to one for them just being pure A**holes. read more

We have used several gardeners and tree services over the years but haven't really been happy with any of them. A friend said she used General Tree Service and they were good but pricey. They gave us an estimate of $1125 but we only ended up paying $1075 for the following: 1. A Dorian Pear out front that had never been trimmed properly 2. A plum in back that had suffered a broken limb and was off balance 3. A large Mahan Pecan in back that needed shaping and had also suffered a broken limb and a bad trim by someone else 4. A huge overgrown Eucalyptus tree in back that had never been trimmed and threatened fences on four yards 5. Cleanup in our front and back yard as well as three neighbors back yards due to Eucalyptus limbs. 6. There was no backyard access so they could only use their bucket truck on the one tree in the front yard. The rest of the work was done by using ropes to climb from limb to limb. We requested they not use spikes on our Pecan and they didn't so the bark was not damaged. Now four hours later the swarm of workers left (2 complete crews) and our yard is looking so much better. I am not saying they were perfect but they were quick, courteous, and did what we wanted. Now there is a lot more light in our backyard which will benefit our overly shadowed grapes along our side fence. I am also sure our neighbors are happier now too to not have that Eucalyptus shading their backyards any more. Well worth the cost. Now we shouldn't need them trimmed again for a long time. read more

I had to have 8 trees removed so I called General Tree Service. Bob Davis did the estimate and he showed up early. He gave me a reasonable estimate plus he gave me a 10% senior discount. The crew called during the time window of my appointment to let me know they were on the way. They worked quickly and efficiently on the designated trees. All tree stumps were ground down and all the debris was cleaned up and hauled away. I must add that I used General Tree in 2014 for similar tree removal and I was impressed by their service then. I would recommend General Tree to anyone that needs tree(s) removed as they are prompt and do neat work. read more

When they came out to do the work, they started very quickly, they had a lot of guys out there doing the work, and they were very knowledgeable when it came to the health and maintenance of my trees. I am NOT HAPPY with this company. Because of them getting a tree moved from the backyard went from costing us $700 - $2300!!! Instead of a long drawn out story for you all to read here is the brief version: They moved a tree for us (after having done some tree trimming) which they changed the original bid from $700 to $800 (first issue). Then they proceeded to break a sprinkler line and severe the electrical lines for our pool pump (even though they had sent PG & E out to verify no electrical lines were in the way). They told me they were going to come out and fix this, but when my husband called that story changed and they said we were responsible for fixing it (read the very very tiny print) - even though they had told me they were fixing it. Well that was before they found out how much it would cost to fix it (then of course it turned into our problem). $1500 more for us to fix it!!!!! Have tried to talk to someone about this issue to no avail. Just not happy with how they handled this and how they weren't very informative and then how they said they would fix it but when it became too expensive then it became our problem. Customer service not so great either. I will NEVER use them again!! read more
