Stay at your own risk! From the moment we checked in, things already felt a bit off. The gentleman at the front desk confirmed the length of our stay, quoted us the total cost, and asked whether we would be paying with cash or card. I was confused and explained that we had already paid in full and that my credit card had been charged. He said, "Let me check," and although I'm not sure he actually did, he returned in under a minute, handed us our room keys, and called for a bellhop. When we got to our room, we realized it was on a lower level, even though I had specifically booked and paid for an oceanfront room on a higher floor. I called the front desk to request a change and was told a higher-floor room would be available the next day. We then went to the concierge to make dinner reservations for our stay, only to be told everything was fully booked. Ana, the concierge who assisted us, mentioned that guests staying more than three nights receive access to the Nickelodeon water park. However, before giving us the tickets, she tried to sign us up for what was clearly a timeshare presentation (though she didn't explicitly call it that). She asked us to meet her in the concierge lounge the next morning so she could take us to the presentation and then to the park. We chose not to attend and instead drove ourselves to the water park. The next day around noon, we were notified that our new room was ready. We packed our belongings and moved upstairs. Couple hours later, concierge notified me that I had left my wallet behind, something that felt very strange, as I had checked the room multiple times. I assumed I may have dropped it under the bed or under the coffee table. When my wallet was returned, I quickly checked inside and immediately noticed that $220 USD in cash was missing. I also saw that my credit cards had been moved out of place. I went down to the concierge to report the incident. The concierge manager, Luis, showed no sympathy and did not apologize. I was informed that I will be updated in 24 hrs. 24hrs later, I received 0 calls, 0 updates. I escalated the issue to the front desk hotel manager Emmanuel, and received the same response. No concern, no urgency, no apology, and no follow-up, no accountability whatsoever. At this point, I've accepted that I likely won't recover the missing money, but I wanted to share my experience. We were excited to get married at this resort after our site visit in 2023. It was scenic, and the staff we met then seemed attentive and welcoming. But unfortunately, by the time our wedding rolled around, the resort was under new management -- and it showed. Our onsite wedding coordinators, Elivia & Uriel, were great. They were organized, responsive, and genuinely cared about our day. They helped make sure the wedding events themselves ran smoothly, and we're thankful for them. But beyond the events, the guest experience at the resort was far from acceptable. Guests reported rude or inattentive staff, room service that never came, rooms with no AC or hot water, and restaurants that refused to seat people even when they had reservations. These issues caused real frustration and embarrassment during what was meant to be a joyful celebration. We also ran into food service issues at two of our wedding events, which should never happen at a resort that hosts so many weddings. Most seriously, a guest was told a food item was nut-free -- it wasn't. They ended up in the hospital. That level of negligence is completely inexcusable. Elvia and Uriel did their best, and we're grateful for them. But the resort as a whole failed to deliver the standard of hospitality and safety that any guest should expect, let alone during a wedding weekend. Beautiful resort, with good food and great service. Let's get the bad out of the way first. Full disclosure is that I have been to 5 other resorts, so I am comparing my experience to other resorts I have been to. If this is your first visit to any resort ever in the Riviera Maya you will have an EXCELLENT time with a few, but not bad, issues. Bad stuff - * They really are pushing their other resorts to the point most of the time i spoke to my personal concierge they tried to keep shoving me to their Exotic club experience. Which also, they may want to revisit the name as Exotic club means something incredibly different in USA. * They only have breakfast buffets and then dinner buffet 2 nights, the rest of the nights you have to either wait for tacos at the Guacamayas bar, which aren't until like 930 or get dinner reservations. As many have stated before me, the Generations is the kids part of resort and they have 2 restaurants for kids for dinner, so if you don't get in you are out of luck for dinner food outside of random event at night or room service. Most resorts have a few different dinner and lunch buffet options which is nice for grabbing a quick snack or dessert. * The artificial reef they have installed is an eye sore, i understand the point and was told it used to be way further out in ocean, but a hurricane pushed them to shore, but they are quit ugly to look at. (minor gripe) * They have daily activities, which is nice, but they don't seem to know the exact times. We were told by different concierge and activity people that Yoga was only wed and Friday, to find others said it's daily. Times also changed, they didn't even match a calendar our concierge gave us. We were told you could take a green house tour, but then told you can't right now. Told you could ride bikes around property as essentially from end to end it's about 4 miles... nope you can't. Overall it didn't seem everyone was on the same page, which made it kind of difficult to find what to do. The app is not accurate to any of this, so don't use that for much. * Their employees work 6 days a week with 1 day off and essentially work 12 hour days... This is common for the area, but stilll... that is rough. They make the local min wage of 8-10$ per day US and tips. *Most resorts every bar outside of pool bars had cappuccino machines, this one they said only the Chef Market did, we asked a few times, come to find out so does Haab (Indian food), as above, was interesting that you keep getting conflicting information * You see a lot of the employees wandering around on cellphones and texting, while this is also an issue in the US, this is the first resort where I saw that. This didn't prevent me from having great service, just found it unusual. Good - * BEAUTIFUL BEACH, while the artificial reef is an eye sore, they also have sand bags and manually installed wave breaks that make snorkling for most of the 3+ mile beach easy and safe as well as it makes it easy to find lots and lots of fish to see. Beach stayed clean the whole trip and seaweed was a minimum * Most of the food we had was pretty good. La Palma was Great and a lot of the servers did very well. Rocha I had on day 2 of trip and remembered my drink on day 6, they have good memories and seem to really strive on giving excellent service * Top shelf liquors and drinks. Some resorts you pay extra for, not this one. * Service, as stated had really good service almost the entire trip, was always welcomed with a smile and they would entertain speaking to me in the little spanish that I do know. Quite a few of the employees remembered My wife and I wherever we went and would make my drink or item when I walked up without asking. The fresh coconut vendor remembered my wife and when walking up would find the biggest one he had and give her the extra water for refills and cut up the meat for her when ready. The bartenders at Sling bar would make excellent mojitos and just chat away. * Tacos, a lot of the resorts out here make bland tacos to try and please all palates, this one makes pretty authentic tacos, their al pastor is on a spit and cut fresh for you there and they even have a nice and spicy habanero salsa that has a nice bite to it... for the uninitiated that like spcy, have a sweet drink to cut the spice if too hot... This place made all the scary things that could happen on a vacation come true. It is not all inclusive. I been to Mexico and to all inclusive this is far from it. They will take all your money if you allow them too. They made me fill very uncomfortable by keep asking me were my kids were. That was scheduled to arrive the next day. This is the most corrupt, disorganized, poorly managed money sucking resort you will ever visit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GARBAGE OF A PLACE WHO pay the local officials to get a 4 Star rating. Let us start.. Cancun Airport is place for thieves who pay airline staff to steal your luggage. So take carry on bags because anything decent is likely to be stolen. Have you tried get a dollar from the Airline? Now the Crust of the matter.. I am sure this like other resorts could never sell enough rooms directly to customers. SO THEY BRIBE THE HOST WHO CREATE THE EVENT $250 to $300 per person for a 3-4 days events who bring 100-250 of their relatives and friends to pay the FULL RESORT PRICE . All inclusive is the biggest nonsense smoke screen you will soon realize as we did. Now the HOST IS FAT AND HAPPY TAKING THE CREDIT OF BOTH YOUR MONEY AND THE EVENT. Essentially you are funding their event. The Food is very poor quality at all restaurants in the resort. Basically they all stick to all inclusive pricing. And the drinks even worse than that. For any upgrade to keep your taste.. You pay enormous price more than what you would pay at Fine Restaurants in America. A simple coconut on the so called all inclusive beach is US $10. A simple T shirt is US $40. Of course they have to recoup the money they bribed the host with. You get the picture. Ok let's just break this down into the good and the bad. You can look through all of my reviews, I rarely leave bad reviews, but I need to point these things out because when you're far from home and you spend a lot of money, things can get miserable really fast. We spent more on this resort hoping for a better experience. I'll start with the good to try and be positive about it. Good: 1) food is slightly above average when available 2) the accommodations are spectacular, the swim out rooms are great and the size of the room is awesome. Bad: 1) they claim that they're a family friendly resort but they never offer the kids drink, never talk directly to them, never bring them silverware. They're an after thought. 2) their restaurants are nearly always closed. You have 2 options at anytime on what to eat. So 3-4 days a week that's Asian and their wine kitchen. They have 5 restaurants but they're always closed. They play it off by saying you can go to the other resort where there is always 5-6 options at any point but the sister resort is an ADULTS only resort. So if you have kids, nope! See my photo as evidence. 3) the kids play center is tiny. How can you possibly keep them entertained for more than a few hours down there. It's like a dungeon. 4) Their furniture is a hazard to children. See my photo. 5) the swim up room is awesome but the pool itself has nothing child friendly about it. They have a cheap blow up slide. Compare this to dreams, Hyatt, or moon palace. 6) the service. The service professionals do the best they can. But they're fighting an uphill battle when management doesn't hire enough people to staff the resort. You'll always be waiting here. It took 40-45 minutes for anything to happen. Seating, food, anything. Neither Good nor Bad: 1) the hotel was dead. Like 3-4 tables were filled at the restaurants at any time. And the pool was empty. This was good in that the beach experience was nice and we had all the facilities to ourselves it seems. This is good and bad as it had a weird vibe. And for those poor young people that come here to party it's unfortunately not party-able when nobody is there. 2) Water temperature: a lot of fuss is made about the pools not being heated. This is true it's not heated but because it's very shallow it warms up pretty well. It was nicer than some of the other hotels with heated pool. Shout out to these people who made staying there excellent. Jaime, Monica, The EkoKids ladies, Abisai, and the Butler lounge people. Overall it sucked but we had fun despite the resort not because of it. We decided to not go to the Hyatt Ziva or the grand at moon palace to come here for more. And we decided to spend more to come here and get a bad experience. It's frustrating. Just heads up they're building a Nickelodeon hotel run by Karisma. We attended a family wedding with hopes of having a great time with the family just to find out this "all inclusive" resort is a rip-off. Cost per night isn't cheap at all, but quality of food is horrendous. You are given the cheapest dishes and meals possible. If you come with kids you have the option of 2 restaurants open for breakfast and lunch, and 2 sometimes 3 for dinner because you can't take the kids to the other restaurants in the resort. But they all serve the cheapest meals. Sauces are watered down, seasoning is horrible, portions are small, room service meals are nasty. Reataurants are rushing cause they want to close earlier. Pool was freezing cold, and beach is really rocky. Spa is about $310usd a person for 80 mins. No seafood options. Just stay away from this hotel trust me. read more

After viewing the amazing pictures online and reading about the outstanding amenities, my family of 20, including 5 teen kids, decided to spend our Christmas vacation here. We booked the rooms in March. We paid thousands of dollars and traveled thousands of miles. When we arrived at check-in they acted like they didn't even know who we were. They said that they were "overbooked" and all our rooms had been given away. They offered no solutions. They offered no compensation. They ended up shuttling us to another hotel that was for little kids. The place they sent us to was a complete dump. The rooms unclean and the food disgusting. Not to mention it was like staying in a romper room full of dirty diapers. At this point all I can say it that we are victims of a Bait and Switch scam of some kind. I would never trust the people who manage this place and I would never stay here again. Buyer beware!!! read more

Beware this resort will nickel & dime you. We had over $2k of extra charges. They will say things but MAKE sure you get it in writing. One example- we got food poisoning from their candle light dinner in the beach (literally vomiting right after the main course) was told they would waive our charge but it showed up on our charges during checkout. Stay away, but if you decide to go give yourself over a hour for checkout. We had to wait over a hour for others to checkout. Realizing we had to go through every charge too cause we had $2k in charges after paying the inclusive fees. Bill was inaccurate after a hour of going over the charges it went down to $800. I have never experienced a checkout like this place-CRAZY!! Food was okay...presentation made it appear like it was going to be good but taste was just okay. I just arrived at Generations 5 hrs ago and it's been nothing but disappointing thus far. I reserved a 3 bedroom swim up suite. My understanding, based on descriptions and pictures on Generation's website, is that all such suites have a separate dining, kitchen, and living area. The suite I was given had no such area. I called the front desk upon entering my suite to inquire and they fed me this line -- your membership tier does not qualify for such suites. I mean, seriously, what the heck are you guys talking about?! Your website suggests that every 3 bed suite has this separate area. Exceptionally misleading marketing. Prior to my arrival, I requested my room be pre-stocked with milk for my 2 and 4 year old children. No milk was to be found when we entered the room. I ordered room service and requested milk. No milk was delivered. I asked the person delivering room service to bring the milk that was originally requested. He never returned. I called room service again to request milk. Several hours later, still no milk. My 2 year old cried at length because she had no milk when going to sleep. Now, at 9pm, there is a group banging drums outside my window waking up my 2 and 4 year olds. We have only been here 5 hrs and I am already contemplating going home early. read more

I have mixed feelings about this all-inclusive, enjoyed our time there and thought the food choices were great. Beaches were not pretty but snorkeling was fun. Spa was decent. Beware of timeshare pushers. First of all, my husband and I booked our reservations at El Dorado Royale. When we arrived at the El Dorado Royale to check-in, they offered us an upgrade - larger room, infinity pool, and ocean view. However, the room offered was going to be at Generations Riviera Maya which is no longer in El Dorado Royale. We were convinced to move over to Generations because it seemed like a good deal & told us we would have access to all the restaurants within EDR. We were given a $400 resort credit for accepting. We suspected they might have been overbooked at EDR so tried to push us over there. Upon arrival at the Generations hotel lobby which was pretty far from EDR, there was an empty building with one person at the desk - which made us scared that we must have been scammed. ROOM: On arrival to our room after a long checkin process, I was relieved. The rooms are really bigger than EDR, nice infinity pool off the 1st floor and even a small living room and outdoor seating area. View was a little obstructed by palm trees but still saw the ocean. However, we discovered it was a great spot to watch the shows each evening! A set of lights didn't work which made the room really dark but they fixed it the next day after we mentioned it. Room smelled musty from the moisture. Room was clean but housekeeping was sporadic on times they came by. The fridge was not always restocked. FOOD/DRINKS: Overall, food was great for an all inclusive. Lots of restaurants to try. Dishes are smaller portions but very nicely plated for a gourmet experience. Most restaurants enforce the dress code so dress nice to dinner! Rincon (Mexican): ok. Had the fish and it came with a nice sauce and mashed plantains. D'Italia Casitas : good. one of the fancier meals with even smaller portions. Order 2 apps or you will be hungry. Pesto/shrimp pasta was yummy, the tomato sauce pappardelle pasta was bland and looked more like fettuccine, steak filet was cooked nice with truffle mash potatoes, osso buco was mediocre, fish was very good. Tiramisu was delicious. Fuentes: Yucatan food. I liked the live cooking show, but they only had time to cook a couple things and the rest was just plating food. Overall, it was fun but the food was ok. Kampai: husband enjoyed it, I thought it was good. Tasty but not authentic Asian food Santa Fe: I liked this restaurant the best. Dishes were served family style and you get a taste of everything. After ordering the entrees, they came out with a variety of dishes for apps & bread - everything was AWESOME. Wine Kitchen (Generations restaurant): this was also excellent. My only complaint is that they don't offer a free taste of a wine paired with some of your meal. Wine other than the standard red and wine offered at the resort is additional charge. All the food here was amazing. My friends and I tried many of the apps and shared our entrees. Drinks at EDR vs Generations: we got drinks at various places during our vacation. Generations had better bars and drinks were consistently better. All the EDR drinks tasted sugary or watered down. The drinks were especially bad at Jo Jo's bar. Sling bar had the best cocktails and margaritas! We even thought the house Cabernet was good. SERVICE: Overall, the entire staff was extremely nice and always treated us well. Wait staff were slower than I would expect at a nice all-inclusive. However, I have no issue with going to the bars and getting myself a drink. Beach service was also pretty light, we saw them maybe a couple times while we were hanging out the whole day in the beach cabanas. (Maybe we weren't tipping enough). Restaurant service was similar, I asked for lemon slices for my tea during breakfast and never got it. No big deal but just felt like I was ignored sometimes. The one place that was spectacular was the Sling bar staff. The bartenders were wonderful and fun to talk to. We didn't use our butlers much. While they were very helpful with a couple reservations to Santa Fe and D'Italia Casitas, they didn't get us a reservation at Fuentes which we requested the first day of vacation. We found out later on the EDR side that Generations people were not allowed to book reservations at Fuentes (which is ridiculous because we asked if we would have access to all restaurants when we moved over to Generations). Our butlers said that Fuentes was completely booked which was not true and we felt they weren't telling us the whole truth. We went to Fuentes through our friend staying at EDR and there were plenty of empty tables... I think this is false advertising for people staying at Generations and they should be aware of. Stayed at this resort for three nights earlier this month and it was awesome! If you get a room on the first, second, or third floor you will have a pool on your balcony. This resort is connected to three other resorts, so you get access to all resorts. There is sooooo much to do! Everyday they have different activities to do. They have beach volleyball, water volleyball, bikes to rent, fire shows, a green house tour, cooking class, and many other activities! There are so many places to eat as well. The butlers are extremely kind and cater to you. The workers are diligent and friendly. Some of the other resorts are adult only. However there is a daycare for children ages four and up. During our stay, we saw weddings everyday. My only complaint about this resort is the slowness of the waiters. They take forever!! The food takes awhile as well. Oh yeah, our room key was always messed up and we had to get it reprogrammed a couple of times. read more

12/26-12/30/2021. On the surface, the resort looks and seems nice. Upon further examination, not so much. The rooms were old with a face lift. The walls were chipping paint and plaster. The condensations on the walls and floor was terrible. The only way to avoid it was to keep your room freezing; and still whenever we opened the patio door, the walls and floor would sweat. We had to keep towels on the floor and be careful when plugging things into a socket. The first room we were put in; someone had pissed in the bed and obviously the cleaning person made the bed anyway...assuming it would be dry by the time someone was to sleep in it that night. The bed smelled so bad, I had to have two room service men come up and flip the mattress because the front desk told me they didn't have any other room to move us to. When in fact, reservations were still open; not showing that the resort was sold out...smh! The golf cart drivers and room service staff were great! However, the butlers, front desk staff, supervisors and managers were HORRIBLE! They said what ever they needed to say - to pacify you. They would tell you that you didn't hear what you heard or didn't see what you saw and no matter what you said or showed them (video), they would keep repeating the same think over and over, as if they were reading a script that they could not deviate from. It was so insulting. Blatant disrespect! There are 5 restaurants on the resort. They tell you that you only need a reservation of 1 of them, but if you don't tell your butler in the morning where you want to eat lunch and dinner, then you would end up eating wherever you could get a seat (at the not so good places) or room service in your room. The problem was, we didn't know where we were going to be at lunch or dinner time. We went out on excursions and couldn't say for certain, what time we would be back and ready for lunch and dinner. The restaurants would not be full, but the hostess would tell us that they are booked up. Upon further questioning the hostess, they would advise that the tables are being held for CLUB MEMBERS. The 2 outside restaurants were terrible and room service was a step above those. However, if you're hungry, you will eat whatever, because that's all you have. Thanks God room service was 24 hours. We were talked into during the 1 or so hour conversation/tour/Club Membership, which turned into 3 hours. We were given a $50 credit to use at check-out towards incidental charges and had to argue with the front desk to get that credit. We had the paperwork they gave us and still the front desk told us the QR codes had already been redeemed. The STAFF was the worst! I will never stay at another Karisma property...EVER, based off of my interation with the STAFF! They tried to give me a free night on my next visit...THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER VISIT...NOT EVEN IF THEY COMP THE ENTIRE STAY! I WILL NEVER JOIN THEIR CLUB MEMBERSHIP, SO THAT I AM TREATED BETTER THEN THE OTHER GUESTS that are not members. Karisma...owners of Generations Riviera Maya Resort, Quintana Too, Mexico should be ashamed of themselves! First let me say the staff here are super nice! Very genuine and accommodating. There are pros and cons to an all inclusive resort. Definitely makes it more relaxing for my husband. Not having to deal with the money part was a break! I agree with another reviewer, the check-in process was too slow! After long flights and a whole day of traveling people just want to get to their room, you know? The whole space is very modern and they wholeheartedly cater to families with children. They had high chairs, changing tables, baby baths, monitors and a pack n play. Awesome! Wish it was a true suite with walls and doors that seal off the space since we had a baby and would have liked a door and a wall instead of a partition. The whole room was really one open space with a divider. Also, the floors were concrete so it's pretty loud in the rooms. Now I know why a lot of hotels have carpet everywhere--it effectively muffles sound! The rooms have a door to the outside and a little foyer where you enter another door to your room. Thats good and bad. You're not in the wind when trying to get in the door but the outside door seems to never get shut which means it is constantly bagging in the wind. And ALL the doors slam so if you're trying to catch a nap and your neighbors are in and out forghettaboutit! It was cold here at night, (and I live in a place where we are known for our snow in the winter), so bring a coat or jacket and warm clothing for children and babies, if you go in January. The food was so so. The best restaurant was the one with local food. It all started tasting the same to me by the end of the stay. Kinda like a cruise. Would I go back? Prob not, but I was happy to try it! read more

A little belated, but my now-husband and I stayed at Generations in March/April 2015. We absolutely loved our stay here! The rooms are spacious and luxurious (see pictures). All of the rooms at this resort are ocean view (SCORE!) and the first three floors of each building have swim-up balconies. The rooms are quite a hike from the main lobby, but the resort provides butlers that will take you around the property in golf carts. We did have one awkward experience when we were sitting on our balcony and all of a sudden our "butler" just showed up unannounced in our room without knocking...but other than that, it was fantastic. The spa was awesome, one of the best massages I've ever had. The food was out of this world, and the resort doesn't limit you as to how many nights you can dine at each restaurant. Jade was our favorite, which was Asian cuisine - the sushi and curry were amazing. FYI the sushi is not part of the 'all-inclusive' package, and costs extra - but it's worth it! The Wine Kitchen is the "fancy" restaurant and you are supposed to make reservations for that one. One thing that we especially loved about Generations was that it is connected to two other resorts (El Dorado resorts - one of which is adults only), and your all-inclusive package extends to those places as well. So, we were able to mosey on over to the other resorts and enjoy their bars, pools, and restaurants. It's super easy to get to them; there is a nice walking path that connects all three. We don't have kids, but Generations seems to have some pretty great activities for kids. One morning, we came downstairs to find kids rolling in one of those inflatable 'hamster ball' looking things in the pool - it looked so fun! One night, there was a show on the beach with dancers and fire eaters. The staff were so great and friendly. Very attentive to requests, and extremely hard-working. I recommend this resort to anyone headed to Riviera Maya! I would go back in a heartbeat! read more

Staff is very friendly and professional. I really wish the wedding planner we went through would've mentioned that there is an adult side and a kid friendly side of the enormous resort. The room was spacious however we had a leak in a closet which was patched up poorly and subsequently leaked a couple hours later. The mess wasn't cleaned up outside of our door for days. We actually left so hopefully they cleaned for the next guest. Also the cleaning service did the bare minimum. Things were omitted like mopping and providing new wash cloths. Ironically all of this was put in their exit survey and now I received an email thanking me for such a positive review....... what???? Do you even read what people say? Due to being there for a wedding we had fun but when you spend that amount of money I at least want a clean room and a wash cloth. read more

Beautiful concept, but poor execution and service. For $380 per night for 2 adults and $500 per night for 2 adults and 2 kids under 12 just for the all-inclusive fee, I expect better service, better food, more accommodating policies and staff. Instead, sake and Sapporo at the sushi restaurant are $10-$30 extra, the room service, towels, and butler requests show up well over an hour and a half later, and they check you into the wrong rooms and don't make any effort to offset the inconvenience. AND, while the beach is ridden with seaweed (literally unswimable) and the pool is where everyone is, there is no way to get food delivered or even get food from other restaurants to go. Also, after 10 hours of travel time, the check in process took 2 hours. I asked several time to get to our room more quickly as our children were growing extremely restless and needed to go to bed, and apparently deviating from the script isn't allowed. I've stayed at other, much cheaper all inclusive and have had amazing experiences. I'll be going back to those places (Secrets resorts as well as the Royal resorts) as well as recommending them, but I won't be back here and wouldn't recommend this to anyone, unfortunately. Website got us all very excited for our once a year family reunion vacation, and now that we're here, I'm regretting it. Beautiful resort but proceed with caution! They have a mandatory all-inclusive fee that varies depending on how the wind blows. Watch out for the slick bait and switch. Quoted one price and then they charged our credit card $600 more than quoted. When questioned the response was vague and shady. We went to the front desk and they confirmed the original quote was correct and even wrote it down and signed their name. Later my credit card was still $600 more than quoted. When I requested to speak to a supervisor, no one would respond. Then to further add insult to injury, they tried to sell us a timeshare type vacation and said if we bought in they would refund the $600! WTF! This experience has put a shadow on an otherwise beautiful property and some of the amazing hard working folks that work there. Update: beware of the 5 star reviews! Generations had my review on Trip Advisor removed. If you notice ALL of the reviews for them are high, which should cause you some suspicion. Review that was removed: Generations is a beautiful resort without a doubt. The property is well maintained and the staff are professional and accommodating. 5 stars for the staff alone. However, beware of the all-inclusive fee bait and switch! We came here with friends that used Interval International to book our rooms, who in turn turned the reservation over to Exotics travel that is located onsite at Generations. When we checked in we were told that we needed to pay the all-inclusive fee of $1170 for 5 days directly to the Exotics office, but since they were closed for the day, we could pay it the next morning. I asked the front desk clerk to confirm the amount and write it down. She wrote $1170. The next day we went to the Exotics office and they charged my card $1770! When questioned about the discrepancy we were given a vague response. So, instead of going round and round with them, I decided I'd take this up again at the front desk. The young lady at the front desk checked her computer for our reservation and again confirmed that the charge should be $1170. Even she was perplexed by the different charge and stated it was more than their current rate. I asked her to please write it down again and sign her name. She said she would contact the Exotics office to clear up the matter. A couple days later, I check my credit and see they charged me $1770! So I called to the front desk and requested that the General Manager, Enrique Olvera, contact me. He did not, which I mentioned to the front desk. Later that day, Exotics contacted me and gave me a song and dance about how it was a computer keying error and the charge is $1770. This is bull, because on the Generations website, Costco and Expedia the all-inclusive fee for our dates were ALL between $1100-$1200! Again I requested to speak to the GM....no response! So, instead of letting this issue ruin my vacation, I decided I'll deal with this with my credit card company later. Note to GM Enrique Olvera: there is no need to respond to this review with the cut and past condescending response that is given to all the reviews on TripAdvisor. As a matter of basic customer service you should have reached out to us and settled this matter. Either Exotics is padding the fee or something slick is going on here. Just spent 5 days at generations and although I'm typically not a fan of all inclusive resorts because of the food quality. What an unbelievable surprise. Every restaurant was first class with exceptional service and even better gourmet food. The rooms with swim up pools were concurrent, fun and what can beat rolling out of bed and a short swim to a stocked bar. The best part was the butler service...they were there for you 24/7 and Jesus was off the charts. Accommodating, kind and had nothing but our best interest at heart. Let's start with Day One whereas upon our arrival we were informed that our Pre-paid Suite (arranged 6 months prior) wasn't available as the property had been Overbooked (During USA Spring Break). We were shown to the "Deluxe" "Swim Out" 1 Bedroom room that was available and thus assigned to my family of 4 (Wife, myself and our two Girls 7-10). 1st thought was "What a View", and second, will our girls really be sleeping in the 2nd of the two side by side twin beds. Or, do my wife and I each get a twin and have the girls sleep on the floor??? I immediately voiced my dissatisfaction with "Pilar" who was apparently the Property Manager or "Chief". Told there was nothing that could be done for our 1st night given that there were ZERO other rooms available; we were promised that our room would be switched to the Oceanfront Suite for which we'd paid and flew to Mexico to Enjoy. After a mediocre at best day : No Cabana's on the Beach as those are all reserved by guests by 7AM; or as we learned, reserved for guests with "issues" for which there appeared to be a plethora; food worthy of a lower-middle class buffets (Think Sizzler or maybe Circus Circus in Vegas); and a staff completely unfazed by a family of 4 being completely disappointed. Fast Forward to day two (FYI, did let the girls share the twin bed next that that of my wife and I the previous night), and Pillar greeted my wife to show her to our new room which was to make all better. At this point, my wife called to ask that I come see what was being offered as our ONLY option. So much for the Amazing "Oceanfront" View as we were now stuck in a corner surrounded by 3 walls of Concrete with a slight glimpse of the Ocean if you go out on the balcony and peer all the way left (Past the staircase the guide all of the guests views right into the Bedroom). At this point, I got involved, voiced my opinion and requested that Pillar and her team resolve the situation. We left the room with our luggage still packed (more than 24 hours after arriving at the Resort and went to the Beach (Had to take someone else's Cabana, but at that point, didn't much care as there was nothing else to do while we awaited word on Pillar's resolution. Fast forward a few hours of no contact from anyone at the resort and we returned to the room to shower before Dinner. This is were bad goes to EPIC FAIL as my 10 Year Old Daughter came running out of the shower after having workers staring at her through the NON-FROSTED or COVERED Shower Window! As it turned out, all of the windows facing the Hallway that Lead to the main Restaurants, Staircases & Elevators in our room with completely exposed to ANYONE that wanted to walk by and take a peek. Apparently, this group of workers was aware and thus camped out by these windows on multiple occasions. At that, no more showers (w/out bathing suits on) or using of either of the Bathrooms in room until 2 days later when apparently, Pillar or someone else realized the gravity of the Privacy issue. Good news came the day before we left when we returned to the room from Xel-Ha (Highlight of the entire trip as it was off property) and saw that all the exposed windows had now been frosted which actually allowed my family and I to take real showers for the first time in almost 3 days. Long story short, I travel all over the world on business and rarely get to travel with my family. To think that our opportunity to enjoy ourselves on our Vacation was completely stolen from us by the Pillar and Her Team at Generations infuriates me; however, when in a foreign country with a reservation booked by a Travel Agent instead of AMEX (MY BAD); there's little that one can do beyond count on the Resort Management to right the problem. Needless to say that didn't happen, and when I called AMEX to dispute the entire charge; I was just told that the KarismaMexico Team actually had the audacity to say that My wife nor I ever made a single complaint although they moved us from the Downgraded room (For which the did comp the 1st night), and Frosted the Windows on our 2nd to last day (Guess that was on the list of things "to be done" too). Just finished uploading all the lovely photos and videos of our "EXPERIENCE" to the Amex Chargeback site and happy to share the Videos/Pics of the view into the bathrooms and showers of our room to anyone else who cares to see how this place is the complete antithesis of what you'd want to experience when looking for a Vacation. Had nothing but issues since arriving at this hotel , was going to redeem them for finally (day 3) getting us the room we booked . The butlers completely ignored our request to move to the room we had booked online , in the end I had to produce paper documents showing the error and a new butler to get us moved,we were pleased finally when customer services said we had our room available and thought finally our holiday won't be so bad Tonight we ordered room service just past 10 pm and was told our food would be 40 mins. 2 hrs later at midnight after calling twice ,our food arrived stone cold. This is definitely not a five star hotel I have taken photos of the food for my personal photo frame in my home as a talking point for guests when they come for dinner as I am sure we will get much entertainment out of a five star hotel that could go so wrong ,the food is full of grease, cold and must have been sat in the kitchen for 2 hrs before coming to our room. Great service, but very boring food!!! The blandest food I've ever encountered. Difficult to navigate the property. Had to relay on 'shuttles' , otherwise known as golf cart to transport you and your party to other restaurants on the property. Hideous cement blocks right off the beach for future man made reef protection for their beach, but still hideous, definite eye sore. For the price of an all inclusive resort and the eye sores on the beach combined with the worst 'gourmet food ' I have ever encountered. Please think twice and go with a better reputable establishment if you are going to spend almost $400 USD per day. We will never go back to Cancun again!!!!! read more
