It's like a museum on here w/ all the old decor, instruments & pictures on walls of old celebrities. They close at 2 so only breakfast/ lunch. The server was nice & polite. Food took a bit to come out considering it was mainly just sandwiches & fries. The prices were a bit high considering fries had to be added & 3/4 burgers came on bread instead of buns, but weren't presented like patty melts. My vegetable soup was pretty bad. 90% broth, 2 potato pieces, 4 green beans & the rest were tiny bits where you couldn't tell what it was, and a little barley too. Very plain & sad for $5. A good solid restaurant with a traditional diner style menu, with especially good breakfast food. Gene's place is a Kamm's Corner fixture with a friendly, nostalgic atmosphere. The ambiance was unique and memorable, and every table is unique. There was plenty of staff to keep our glasses and cups full and the staff was all super friendly. Gene's place doesn't take reservations. We had a large party but our wait was only ten minutes. Can get really crowded at times especially after church on Sunday. Wow. What a hidden gem for me. Place is literally right down the street from me and it was my first time. The has the decor that takes you back in time to Humphrey Bogart and Clarke Gable. The menu is quite large and they serve breakfast all day. I would definitely recommend checking the hours and they vary by day. Staff was very friendly and nice. I've been going to Gene's Place for years and for some reason have never done a review. Gene's is like going to a favorite relative's house for dinner. The menu is consistent and rarely changes. The food is nothing fancy but it aways tastes good. You can get breakfast any time of the day. They do serve beer and wine if you want a drink. They also have daily specials that usually include a breakfast special. Gene's is a great place to take your kids, it's got a real family restaurant atmosphere. read more

it's been a few weeks so i'll do my best to remember. i thought it was good but the servings were a little small. i don't think Danielle liked it as much as I did. she had some sort of chicken sandwich and said the chicken was dry. i had corned beef hash. hard to go wrong but it could have been cooked a little longer to get a crust on the hash. the eggs and toast were fine. our server was a funny and did a good job. overall, i'd go back but i'm not sure i'll be able to convince Danielle. read more

Came in on a Friday mid afternoon. They still had a nice lunch crowd. At 55, I was the youngest in the joint. Service was fast and very friendly. Started with a Tuscan soup. Very hot, the way I like soup. Had a San Francisco salad. Fairly basic, though plenty big enough. Nothing really special and I would have made this a 3 star review. But the salad came with a bread side. The waitress was nudging us towards the chocolate muffin, so we took her suggestion. IT WAS TO DIE FOR!!! Looked like a store bought muffin, but it was warm and absolutely delicious. I think they made them in house. Old school and lovin it! It's been a number of years since I've been to Gene's and it was just as good. My husband and I had a late breakfast and it was wonderful. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in. Our sever was quick to get our drink orders and they even put on a fresh pot of decaf. We took a few minutes to look at the menu and we placed our orders. I ordered a traditional breakfast, 3 over medium with home fries and rye toast. Simple and delicious!!! The atmosphere is so awesome! Total throwback to an era much simpler. French Toast was thick and delicious . A short stack is enough to fill you up! Hubby had the Jack Benny, perfect combination of breakfast food and meat. Prices were very reasonable. And the service was top notch. A classic diner it's been around a long time and whenever I'm back to Cleveland scene my siblings I always try to make a stop here. I can remember coming here when I was a young kid and it was a pancake house back then two later on coming with my grandmother for lunch. it's filled with nostalgic photos from the 40s and 50s of all kinds of celebrities and Cleveland momentos. some people think the waitress and hostess are rude but I think it's just a matter that they're older and you have to be patient. Kind of goes with the style of the place. These days I usually go for breakfast and find it enjoyable with well prepared food. it is an interesting place that is tucked away in kamm's corners mall but has plenty of seating for large groups and parties the only problem will be if you're in a wheelchair is not really wheelchair accessible it's a very old building. We are from out of town and this was a convenient place to meet relatives twice during our stay . The food was ok. Nothing unusual or exciting for breakfast. Blueberry pancakes probably the best. Sorry guys, I was terribly disappointed. I read many outstanding reviews but I can't offer the same perspective. The staff were great and the ambiance was very nostalgic, but the food was short on expectation. My wife and I both left without the satisfaction of a good meal. We went for breakfast, and everything was plain Jane, and minimalist. She wouldn't eat the crust off her toast, and I ended up eating it because the portions were so small. You guys need to reinvent your meals, and add some kind of signature dishes. These reviews that say your food is hands down the best are not accurate at all. Just 1 page on the menu and not a lot of variety - rather just different suggestions on how to order the items. So 1 lost star there .. the additional star lost was it was kinda pricey for standard breakfast fare. There are a lot of other options in the area for breakfast with more variety and better prices. Son and I ate here on a road trip, and this was the best breakfast we had all week. Son opted for the "Frittata" - basically a veggie and cheese omelet. All ingredients tasted fresh, and portion size generous. Came with the buttermilk pancakes. I had the "Pa Kettle" - 2 eggs, corned beef hash, and the pancakes. Again flavorful, and a nice portion. But the pancakes - WOW!! I'm not a fussy pancake eater, but these are worth traveling long distance for - texture and flavor like you've never enjoyed. Combine it all with a safe and comfortable, small-town dining atmosphere, a wonderful staff, and extremely affordable prices, and it's no wonder they have survived as long as they have. I like diner food as well as more gourmet eats and was excited to try Gene's based on my neighborhood's FB group recommendation. Everything was okayish. My waitress was nice, the host threw the menu on the table and then threw my credit card at me when I paid. Mixed bag for service. I had an omelet with home fries. Eggs were well cooked but all the omelet goodies were piled on top of the eggs and weren't quite cooked or hot. My omelet was supposed to come with bacon in it--there was a full piece of bacon perched on top of the omelet. Very odd presentation and not a great way to eat it. The home fries lacked seasoning but were ok. The only hot sauce they had was Frank's which we all know is okay but it's hot sauce for white people who don't know any better. So, it wasn't horrible but I wouldn't go back. Good diner food is hot, delicious, and full of flavor. It doesn't need to be refined or healthy. Gene's missed the boat. I hope the host is having a better day tomorrow and doesn't throw things at customers. read more
