Had them come out to repair my pool heater but before doing so, I already did a little research on the issue. The technician was very nice but in a way, brushed off my findings. Long story short, after 4 weeks, 3 visits and almost $500 later, I got it fixed for free from PG&E. My gas meter was too small to provide sufficient pressure to my pool heater. Genie's technician from day 1 said my gas meter was suitable before starting all the repairs. When PG&E came, they shook their heads in disbelief that I was told my current gas meter could support my pool heater. read more

After advising they cover my area, rescheduling the appointment to today and a total wait time of nearly 6 weeks they call and say we don't service your area. Too far to drive the extra 5 miles from downtown. Quite disappointed and they were referred by a property mgr who now is evaluating the relationship. read more

My experience with this company has been a mixed one. The staff bring good attitude to the equation, yet the owner, Dick, is inflexible and self-serving. He is an abrupt communicator and focuses on his needs rather than the needs of his clients. My sense is that he uses the people skills of his female office staff to balance his self-serving outcomes. Alex is part of the outside team and he is a gentleman with has helped me with service challenges. My sense is that the owner is an autocratic bully leaving those who work for him disempowered. You can understand now why my experience is mixed yet my recommendation is to avoid a company where the owner isn't really committed to a win/win relationship with his customer. Avoid!! read more

Genie Pool & Spa Service, Inc. has been servicing our HOA (Homeowners Association) Pool for more than 20 years. The service they have provided our 40 unit town home complex has been top notch. Past experience prompted seeking their expertise to undertake the pool re-plastering project at the onset of the summer. As a home owner and project manager for the project, I found Wanda and the office staff to be extremely knowledgeable and supportive. Their on-site team of workers, namely, Cruz, Sergio C. and Porfirio are friendly and were very determined to provide exceptional service. The project had its challenges beginning with a delay within our HOA and culminating with one of the pool companies suppliers. Immediately Genie Pool's President, Dick Nichols, assumed responsibility for something that was not his problem, so the project could continue to move forward toward completion before the summer ended. As a result the pool has a fresh new look and the home owners are swimming again much to the delight of everyone involved. I definitely recommend Genie Pool to anyone considering re-plastering or needing on-going service for their pool. read more

The pool service might be fine, but I question the customer service. I drove in the other day and parked in their lot on Charter Park to bring in some photos of my pools and possibly ask for some quotes. As I was parking, some guy in a black and white jeep asked me what I was doing there, and I explained that I was there to see the business there, and he said, "Not in this parking lot you're not. Get your car out of here and park somewhere else!" This was the parking lot right in front of their building. About the rudest thing to say to a potential customer. I got in my car and drove away. If their customer service is like this for poential customers coming to their office, I really question what it would be like if I engaged their services and had any issues or concerns. ====================== Response. The person came out of the front door of you business and apparently seemed to me the manager or owner from his tone. This company is awful! We have used this company for over 6 and, and has been a complete nightmare.They have 1 guy who is honest and actually does what he claims to do, but when this guy isn't the one who comes to service the pool we end off with bottom of the barrel scum who have no problem signing off the work has been done when they haven't done anything more than spend 10 minutes in the bathroom and taking off. Last time I went as far as to look at the pool filters myself before the guy drove off and guess what, just as suspected he didn't even bother to clean the filters. I highly recommend Genie Pool & Spa Service for the installation and service of a Pentair system at my home. I am especially impressed with Sergio, a technician at the firm who has been 100% responsive, knowledgeable and willing to lend a hand and give advice. Pentair is a high-end pool management system, but there typically are issues that crop up. That's when service becomes especially important. In my book, Sergio has gone above and beyond the call of duty and is a great representative of the firm. read more

I live in Deer Run 1 in South San Jose and my association employs Genie for our pool service. Every morning 5 days a week a person comes and cleans the pool and spa thoroughly. We h for years. They are honest and thorough. Due to the virus, we can't use the pool, but every day someone arrives promptly and completes the service. They never cut corners. I commend them every time I see them. Two years ago my doctor told me no more cleaning my pool due to back issues. I called several places and they didn't want to service my pool due to my dogs. They also couldn't set a day out of the week to come. Genie pool and spa had and has no issues of me having my dogs. I have been using their services for two years and my pool looks phenomenal. Genie pool and spa also updated some equipment and I'm very pleased. The front office is amazing and very friendly. Everyone at this company is great, knowledgeable and friendly. This was one of the strangest customer service experiences ever. I was referred to this company by a pool inspector as we need to put a gate in place. I called right away to schedule an appointment for the following month. Apparently the person who would actually measure the pool was not available for a couple of weeks- out on vacation or something, so I had to wait until he returned to see if he could commit to an hour and half window several weeks out. So I figure, OK, the woman on the phone seems nice enough, so I will wait it out. In hindsight, I probably should have looked for someone else right away, as opposed to waiting two weeks to hear if they even wanted my business. In any event, they did call me back two weeks later, and told me that they could not commit to an hour and half window- while they thought it was possible, they would not guarantee it. I explained that because we are doing a leaseback to the owner, we only have the window of the walkthrough to measure-- and we have toddlers so I wanted to make sure the gate is ordered and installed before our move in date. Not an ideal situation I admit, but we have a number of other contractors and service providers who are coming within the same window- painters, handymen, carpet installers- etc. I explained I would have to take the business elsewhere, and they would also lose the monthly servicing business. She said she understood they were losing the business, but still wouldn't be able to commit to the 1 1/12 hour window for a simple measurement. I guess they must just have so many customers, they don't need me. I called one of their competitors who immediately booked the appointment, walked me through the process, had me send pictures etc., and I look forward to working with him. read more

They resurfaced our pool a little over a year ago. To date a child cut their foot on the bad coping job, the hand railing for the steps came loose, and the underwater light pulled away from the wall. Look elsewhere! read more

Alex replaced a spa part at our new home. He was professional and friendly. He went out of his way to answer my questions and was patient with me. I was impressed with his level of knowledge and service. I had another poor guy lie to me about something in order to get additional and unnecessary business. Alex was honest and upfront and helped address an issue that took him a few minutes and no parts as the other guy wanted to charge over $1000 for a part that's was not needed and would not have solved the problem. Genie Pool & Spa has been servicing our pool for almost a year. They are by far the best service we have employed. Ours is a community swim pool with 45 members which is serviced by Genie twice a week. They have been nothing but helpful, answering all our questions and making suggestions when appropriate. The office staff is always pleasant. I must note that José, our service person is excellent. You can tell he enjoys his work and takes pride in doing a good job. I've been told many of their employees have been there decades... A sign of a solid company who keeps both their employees and their clients happy. read more

I always read the reviews and I'm a little confused by these. It seems people either love Genie or hate them. You can put me on the "love" side! My pool was refurbished over 15 years ago. It recently developed an issue with water seeping into the expansion gap. The Deco Seal was just worn out, and deteriorating. Many of the decorative glass tiles on the pool side, and even some pavers, were coming loose. Cruz came out from Genie, evaluated the situation, and set to work. I had new glass tiles, but Cruz decided not to use them, as they would be far shinier than the others and look odd. Instead he meticulously removed, cleaned and reinstalled the old tiles one at a time. Then he pulled up the pavers, cleaned the expansion gap and pool edges, then reset the pavers in their original locations. As a result of his careful attention to detail, everything looks untouched, except that it is completely repaired and cleaned. That kind of concrete and paver work is art. We could not be happier! Genie Pool and Spa were servicing our pool when we moved here over three years ago and leased the house we are in. Six months later we purchased the house and continued service with them. We've always had great customer service and pool service. Wanda at the front desk is super helpful and pleasant. They are easy to deal with from a business perspective as well. Recently we asked to have a quote done to resurface our pool and add a heater and they were right on time and very helpful. They also submitted bids within a day of our appointment. read more

I called a week ago to schedule an appointment for a pool remodel assessment and after a callback confirmed today between 9am and 12:30pm to no avail. I scheduled myself to be home around many other competing appointments and wait until 1:30 to call in only to find that they apparently weren't coming. Something to the affect of they have been calling me and leaving messages. Messages which I never received. Dick the owners says he is sorry and he had more questions for me about my existing pool and he wants to reschedule another 3 hour window for Minday. No thank you. You all wasted my time for your slow and inefficient business practice. Absolutely not my favorite! You all need to improve your business handlings and follow through of your commitments. Glad this happened before I engaged into a contract of any nature. read more

I literally called 21 pool service companies before I found Genie Pool to replace our 45-year old diving board and resurface our Association pool. All the other companies would not replace diving boards. I was so excited to find this company and learn they have been in business for 38 years! When I met with Dick, the owner, he was so professional and knowledgeable. I knew right away his company was perfect for our project. Still, being an Association, we had to get three other bids. Genie Pool and Spa came ahead in cost, customer service and client referrals. They did not disappoint us. Wanda and Chris, from the front office, were always friendly, efficient and available for questions. I was so impressed with this company's reliability and integrity. They showed up when they said they would and went above and beyond the initial scope of work. They fixed things that haven't been working for over 20 years. Dick, Cruz, Rudy and Alex were all knowledgeable and diligent workers. They did not cut corners. I appreciated how meticulous Dick was in his inspections.
