I stumbled upon Genius Squad, by accident and in desperation. In order to make the post office by 6 pm, in a frantic rush, to send my mother a Valentines day card and small check, I parked illegally at 5:57 pm in the parking lot, and started running towards the entrance, when my iphone 7, fell out of my sweatpants and fell on the ground. When I picked it up, my screen had cracked as well as the screen protector. At this point, the camera was not working as well as the flashlight. In a panic I found Genius squad less then 2 blocks away, here in West LA. I showed up on the fly, no appointment and walked in randomly. Enter Gabriel K, Superstar LeBron James level, repair King. Gabriel greeted me with a warm assuring confident, smile that said = "All will be fine" positive energy. Upon showing him the cracked screen and camera, Gabriel when into his back office and 15 minutes later had a brand new screen for me. We tested the camera a few different ways, just in case it was a loose connection from the fall, but I had to replace it. Again ,it only took, 15 minutes, and before I left the store, both broken parts, were replaced and working like new. I can't speak highly enough of Genius Squad. As a dedicated klutz, I've shattered my phone's screen more often than I'd care to admit. But no matter how badly I damage my phone, these guys have it covered. I'm especially wowed by Chris, who's pretty much the Mozart of Mobiles. I just brought him in a phone that was not just dropped onto the pavement, but also run over by at least one car. I was pretty sure that the phone was toast and that I'd have to buy a new one. Genius squad? More like THIEF SQUAD. OH AND FREE GLASS PROTECTOR FOR A REVIEW? This was a def red flag. I came in here because my phone wouldn't turn on. I got it diagnosed over the phone at Apple and they said its probably the battery. I didn't want to wait a couple days so I found this place because of the great reviews. They found a couple drops of water underneath the phone so they told me I had to get my whole screen replaced and it wasn't battery because they tested it with their own. Fine. Then while he was fixing that, he told me my off button wasn't responding and they I had to change my home button. Didn't make sense but whatever I just needed my phone fixed ASAP before my vacation. The total was $92 for a shitty screen replacement. My phone glitches and there's a couple white spots on my screen. My battery now dies rapidly fast when it didn't before. And they swapped out my home button for a unsensor home button. I honestly think that they swapped out my good battery for this shitty battery that literally dies 1% per minute and they swapped out my iPhone 6 button for a cheap iPhone 5 button. I would stay away from this place and not believe a review that's shorter than a paragraph. read more

Brought one of my computers here after my windows 10 crashed. Gabo and Chris were politely waiting and welcomed me as I entered. Offered to solve my problems, and they came through. The next day all of my files were back on my desktop and NO BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. Seeing that my first visit went so well, I also brought in an older asus from a year ago, I dropped it. DANGEROUS and complete ripoff. SAVE YOURSELF FROM POTENTIAL INJURY! Their battery replacement was an imitation battery that was swelling up and would've exploded had someone not diagnosed my problem in time. Months ago, I had my battery replaced at Genius Squad. The charge was still crappy but I lived with it. A few weeks later, my screen started to push out from my phone and it wouldn't fit in my case. I thought it might be water damage but didn't want to come back to Genius Squad because the battery charge was so bad. So, I went to Ubrokeit in Mar Vista (500 5-star reviews on Yelp) where Greg diagnosed my pregnant screen just by looking at and said it was a bad battery. Ten minutes later, my phone was fixed with a new battery and he showed me the Genius Squad "battery" which wasn't an Apple battery but an imitation battery that was swollen and would soon explode if left in my phone. I wanted to really like this place. especially because they were so fast and courteous and gave me a free phone case. Unfortunately, I wasted ~$60 on a phone screen for my iPhone 5c. My previous screen was not badly cracked, I only wanted to replace it so that I could turn it in and make use of the warrantee. The previous screen, while cracked, worked just fine. My replacement screen however, barely works. The phone now spaces out when my face touches the screen and even when left alone, the screen spaces an does crazy things, or is completely unresponsive when I actually need it. read more

SCAM ALERT!! If you have a problem with your charger port or battery, DO NOT go to this place! I took my phone in for a broken charger port and when I got the phone back, they hadn't not fixed anything! They showed me that the phone would charge with their chargers, but it still wouldn't work at home or in my car. After taking a closer look, I realized that this amoral business did not change a thing about my phone! The original port was still in there! I took it back and confronted them and ofcourse they denied it profusely. After threatening to write a bad review though they agreed to actually fix my phone and did so. As I left, the owner begged for me not to write a bad review, but they should have done right by me the first time. AVOID this place AT ALL COSTS!!! Final update: Went to Apple to learn that I am now denied any service for any issue because I have a third-party part in my phone. I was never offered a choice of battery, neither when I called before visiting Genius Squad, when at their location or when calling to complain that the battery was faulty. Per their reply to this review of having different types of parts, I should have been made aware of this but was only offered the $40 option. When I called about the warranty there was no offer to replace the battery again. Now my only option is to get a new phone and I think the technician should have made me aware of this before putting the third-party part in. --- Needed to replace the battery on my iPhone 6s Plus and didn't want to wait a few days for a Genius Bar appointment. Seemed an easy enough thing, simply put in a new better battery. Work was done quickly and cost was okay at $40. When I asked how the battery would perform, the technician told me 'hopefully' it will give me the same usage time as my original battery which was about 3 days. Took it home and noticed right away that the battery was dying just as fast as it was before the replacement; about 1% per minute when using. I found this odd but thought I would give it a day to see if performance improved. Then I started noticing glitches at about 20% (now after a few weeks it glitches at 30%) which I had not experienced before. So I called a day later because the website claims 30 day guarantee on parts, explained what was happening and was told 'oh well there is probably something wrong with your phone, bring it in and we will take a look'. Yah no thanks! I should have gone to Apple from the start. That was my first and last time taking my equipment for repair at any other place than the Genius Bar. Side note: The app they use to tell you the quality of your battery is a hoax. It resets when the new battery is replaced so it will say it's 'perfect' because it has nothing to compare to. read more
