to be honest, I didn't have high hopes for this place but it ended up exceeding expectations. We got so many good items that it's really hard to go wrong. The only not good item was some kind of tuna bomb because it tasted just like tuna fish salad from a can. Everything else tasted great. I grew up going to Genki Sushi after school with my mom and sister. After moving out of state in 2011, we had to eat there again while visiting Oahu. It's definitely changed since we left, but the food is still good! I miss seeing the conveyor belts and the sushi chefs working in the middle of the restaurant, but service is nevertheless still great and fast. I think the only inconvenience my family had was having to order sushi for five people on one phone with the online ordering system. Other than that, everything was great! read more

New location in the Pearlridge mall right across from the food court. Theres a QR scanning reservation system that's quick and easy. I got a seat in about 10 minutes on a busy weekend afternoon. Seats are comfy, restaurant is bright and staff were friendly. They can help walk you through ordering if you need to and are pretty attentive. They have an extensive menu of sushi, rolls, bowls, fried items and specials. Pretty much something for everyone. The ordering is through your phone and delivered via sushi train. Food was good. Cons: -Prices have really gone up. Personally not worth it. -Portion of ginger and wasabi appears to be rationed and super skimpy. It was derived in the smaller plastic container and although we told them for 2, they provide 1 container of wasabi and 1 container of ginger. Genki Sushi has returned to its roots as a once popular sushi spot. Place gets busy fast and that's why they use a waitlist system. You'll need to scan a QR code to get into line. Place is clean and there's plenty of staff to help you if you need anything. Food is easy to order since you do it on your phone and the food comes quickly right from the train. It was my first time eating here at the pearlridge location since they've moved from the upstairs location. As I got seated, I was wondering why there was no servers coming to my table. They were just standing around so I had to get their attention and ask myself how to order because no one asked me if I was okay or if I needed anything. So they have a new thing where you order online through your phone, that's what I did. I also asked for an extra fork and the server came back and laid it on the table without any napkins or nothing, just on the table. I did not appreciate that at all. Everytime I looked up, the servers were in the front talking stories or just standing around. Very disappointing to see. The food was very good which was such a bummer because with the service and my experience being that bad, I would not be returning. read more

Might just be me but I think the quality went up since they moved downstairs. Everything is so good. You can tell it's made to order and now you can even feel the warm rice in the nigiri. Everything comes out fast and the ordering on your phone process is really simple. Love the innovation. Also everything seems so much brighter and there is definitely more space. We normally come to this location when we're shopping at the mall. It's normally packed so waiting is always apart of the experience, but this time around it seemed like maybe we went at a super busy time (Sunday late lunch time). Took a while to order our drinks along with receiving only one shoyu dish for 3 of us to share. After waiting more than 15 mins (and many servers walked past), we decided we didn't need to ask for anything else. We will still come visit this location but maybe choosing a better time to go would be best. read more

Went to their new location in Pearlridge right at the entrance of the Mauka side. I really liked this new location because it's convenient for those who just wanna come here for Genki. To be on the waitlist, you have to scan the QR code that's placed on the windows. My son and I went during lunch time, and we were seated fairly quick. First thing my son noticed was there was no iPad. Everything was done through a QR code, where you order through your own mobile device. That was kind of the junkie part bc my kids really enjoyed the iPad part. The food was good. Everything came out quick through the food train. The son enjoyed everything he had. Only thing now is that the waitresses and waiters don't come to check on you, and see if you need a refill of water. So we went on empty water till we rang for the check. Also, when we did push the button for the check, they took about 5-10 mins just do come. Now that everything is techie, the customer service has gone down. read more

Food is fair unless you came back from Japan recently. Service comes on a train so what could go wrong. The music is nice and they have various discounts along with 2 new deals. If you purchase a $100 gift card you get an additional $10 and if you choose the $200 gift card they give you $25. The plates can add up to big bucks if you're not careful. But every once in awhile while shopping, stop by and enjoy a free cup of hot tea with your meal. read more

This Genki location gets pretty busy! Especially now during the holidays. Be sure to scan the QR code posted on the door to join the wait list. I remember to sign up it asked for a first name, last name initial, # in the party, preference for counter or booth seating, and I think a cell phone # for text updates. I signed up around 1:42pm om a Sunday and we were called at 2:48pm. I started as #41 so not bad at all. It's good to sign up first and then do some light shopping while you wait. There are a few benches out front and a few massage chairs sprinkled around that yall can sit on to wait. The counter tops we sat at were clean. I noticed the waitress cleaning with a sani solution after patrons around us had finished eating and left. The waitress asked if we wanted ice water, hot tea or other beverages. I liked the big clear plastic cups used for water, as I drink lotsa water. The wasabi and ginger were on request and brought in packets. Shoyu was available at the table. Utensils, napkins and saucers were also brought to us. I really liked the iPads here, they seemed less bulky and wider screened than Genki Alas. They had a few special items going on like the Seared Spicy Set (recommended!) and a few others. The fried items were freshly fried. Very cripsy. No sogginess, which was perfect. Slices of fish were a decent portion and fresh. After dining there's a 'Call for Check' option on the iPad. Waitress arrived shortly and gave us the check. Then we paid at the register out front. The new Genkis recently opened at Pearlridge! It's downstairs right at the entrance of uptown at Pearlridge mall. My family are regular Genki go-ers because when my kids want sushi, they want Genki's sushi. It's not top quality sushi, so don't expect that. It's just your average grade sushi. Family friendly environment, with those moving belts that brings the plate of sushi straight to your table. It's our first time here at this location and my son was pretty disappointed to learn that they no longer have the tablets to use as a menu and order from. He looks forward to going on the tablet and ordering his keiki meal, because it also lets you play a little game and you have chances of winning a prize. At the new location they hand you a QR code in receipt paper and you use your phone to order online/and to see the menu. Customer service is ok. There are always workers around so you just flag them down and they help you. Anyway, back to the sushi. I was not disappointed with anything that I ordered. Genki is always good for cheap sushi. A lot of new things on the menu compared to the last couple years like the shellfish nigiris (clams etc), hamburger and takoyaki. Wait time was surprisingly fast since the restaurant is bigger and tables turn fast. I tried takoyaki. I assume they deep fry or air fry it because it was hard as a rock and hard to bite into, not like like a soft exterior. Other than that, all their old regular items like garlic salmon, kaarages and spicy bowl tasted consistently good. My issue for giving them 3 stars is the questionable cleanliness... I get that they're trying to turn tables quick so they can seat the next party but it's like they swipe the tables one time with rag. There was still little strains of sauces on our table and near the train track. No big deal at first.. The physical menus are propped up against the tracks behind the napkin dispenser and they have a top and bottom train track. When the bottom train came by, someone's Spam that was on it pushed my menu as it passed and I was like "ew the food is touching the menu" so I grabbed the menu to move it so it doesn't touch anyone else's food... and there was sweet chili sauce all on the back. They either did not wipe down any of the menus before seating us or people's food who pass on the train just wipes itself on the menu because it's so close. Either or, they're both equally not good. I kinda lost my appetite after that. We were the first people seated on the counter when the food comes out so our food most likely didn't wipe up against other tables menu but I felt bad for anyone else's food that did! Keep in mind, last I've been to this location they were upstairs and still used iPads so I never thought menus would be an issue - and it's not, it's cleanliness. They should really move the menus up top like where they used to keep the iPads or something. I love Genki. I actually worked at an old Genki through college so I always wish the best for them. I thought I had a written a review of this place before but I guess I did not. This is probably one of my favorite Genki's. You put your name on a waitlist and they text you when your seat is ready. This is definitely the biggest of all of them and seating is usually within 10 minutes. Order your food by scanning a QR code on your phone. Food comes out really fast and efficient. It's also not messy and falling all over like some of the others. This is conveyor belt sushi so don't expect fine dining. service is also quick the four stars is for service and efficiency. The relocation to the ground level corner of the "Mauka Side" was a good idea. New layout is spacious and comfortable; providing privacy for those who enjoy it in a dining setting. Not a fan of the QR code menu; what about the elders or not so tech savvy? Make it all inclusive. 4/5 for the setting. Service: initially was not the best from the door. The young lady asked if I was on the list. What list? It's at 1/3 capacity. Told I needed to scan a QR code that was not visibly posted at the entrance. There it is! Facing the food court....silly me, thought it was just another flyer in the window....oops. Thankfully, Jayden to the rescue. His service was impeccable! The multiple check-ins while we ate was appreciated. The immaturity of the yellow shirt staff was obvious. Not bothersome, they just need training. They're young, teach them. Decent behavior in the service industry is absolutely key. Seated near the kitchen/stock area, we were within ear shot of everything. Time from ordering to receiving the food was superb. 4/5 service--thank Jayden for the 4 otherwise it would've been a 2.5 Food: the usual menu with the expected price increase due to rising food costs. 4/5 food. I was very surprised when Genki moved in to a new, bigger location in Pearlridge. I've never eaten at the old location, but I've noticed that with this location facing the outside of the mall, it's able to stay open later. I came in on a Tuesday night at 7PM and stayed until 8:30, but it looks like they stop seating at around 8:00; most places close at 8PM, and their last call was around 8:30PM. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like this genki was missing something or I just want more, but I don't know what. For example, I remember the tables were the coolest thing to hit Hawaii, now it's just a QR code and through our phones. I understand maybe those tablets were cumbersome to handle or maybe some broke down over the years, but they were a lot more user-friendly than the website on our phones from the QR code. I also miss playing a game whoever we ordered dessert! I was surprised at some of the new items I saw, like the ahi on wonton chips. the ahi looked like they gave me two rice scoops, one on each wonton chip! Definitely made me feel like I was getting my moneys worth. My suggestion: skip the cheap plates, just get a few of the higher price plates because you get good flavor and a little more filling portion, but that's just my opinion. I would always go to Genki and get smaller plates thinking I'm saving money, but in reality I'm spending more because I think the cost is low, but I'm not getting full. This night in particular, I ate mostly black and silver plates and I got fuller faster and really enjoyed my dinner. Overall, I hope they bring the tablets back! read more

Service was good, needed to ask for tea a few times; needs to be consistent with serving it very hot. It was a full house, but didn't wait long. I know things evolve, things change, they can't always stay the same.... I haven't been to any Genki in a while. The last time I did, they still had those tablets to order your food from. Yesterday, we went for the first time in a while, with our kids, and first time ever at the Pearlridge location. We got a table pretty quickly, and we're given a QR code to scan and order from our phones. The QR code didn't work on my phone and took me to a Genki site that I could not interact with, refresh or click on any of the links. The employees weren't very helpful when we told them it wasn't working, though they did get some of our order started for us. Eventually we got it to work on my husband's phone though. We ordered a few more items from on his phone, which we got. But the next time we ordered, we only got part of the order. We were pretty over it by then, so we had to show the employee what we were being charged for and the plates we had to prove we never got it so he'd take it off our bill. I liked when Genki had the tablets we could order from, or actual servers! There's such a lack of service and friendliness when restaurants run operations this way. Besides filling water, what exactly are all those employees doing? Technology seems to be doing all the work for them, so who are we actually tipping anyway, and for doing what exactly? I work in the food and hospitality industry myself, I know what it takes to have good service, hospitality, and all that. This is not it. We went during lunch time and there is a QR code to do the waitlist on the window. So obviously it was very user friendly and our wait wasn't long either. They text you promptly when it's ready and if you are running late there's a button to click on but we were just outside. Got seated and then ordered our drinks . Then you scan the QR code on the paper they give you as you sat down so you can order it on your phone. We ordered a lot of nigiri and luckily we got a table for a party of 5. The genki FOH staff were nice and attentive but the kitchen staff on the other hand was not. First off, we ordered two dishes. One with no green onions and another dish with no white onions in the tuna mix. Well they both contained the onions. What is the point of putting in our own orders through an app with options to alter the order and its completely disregard? I have a food sensitivity to raw onions but imagine if i was allergic to them instead. That would have been very irresponsible of them! Secondly, I ordered the baked mussles. They were barely charred and the second order was cold. I spit it out and couldnt finish it. Customer service and CARE is a low priority all across all genki establishments. read more

Our first time at their new location across from the food court...and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Rating based only on the new ordering process. Customer service was EXCELLENT, food was EXCELLENT but...the ordering process terrible. I miss the ipads that they had at every table; where the kids could order quickly what they wanted, and then we add our food right after. I prefer to eat lunch and not be on my phone, but instead I had to scroll and scroll and scroll to get all of our orders in. I do understand the thought process..I GUESS...It saves the company money without having ipads on every table. And the customer uses their phone instead. Personally, I would probably pass on dining in at this location from now on. I understand during the pandemic when companies did this way of ordering. But why take away a good thing. read more

Totally different vibe here compared to the one in Kaneohe. The restaurant was inviting and the service provided was fast, friendly, and attentive during the dinner rush, no negativity whatsoever. I'm not a big fan of the QR code for ordering, only because I hate having my phone out while eating with my family, but it is faster and any one can order from their own devices, not just one. One major plus was that all of our food came out accordingly, nothing was forgotten or left out just because they didn't feel like making it anymore.
