We gave the Waikele Genki Sushi another try, hoping things had improved since our previous visits, but unfortunately our experience was very similar. The restaurant was not busy, and we arrived about an hour before closing. We were patient while waiting for our food, but it took a long time to arrive. We placed another order afterward, and after waiting about 15 more minutes with no sign of it, we decided to cancel it and went to the front to pay. From where we were seated, we could see the kitchen. It didn't appear busy, and the staff had already started their closing cleanup while it was only around 8:30 p.m. It seemed possible they were focused on closing duties and may have overlooked incoming orders. Our drinks also took quite a while to arrive, which added to the overall experience. This was our third visit to the Waikele location because we wanted to give it another chance and see if improvements had been made. Unfortunately, we didn't notice much difference. On a positive note, the Pearlridge location continues to provide much better service and has been our favorite Genki Sushi location so far. read more

We always eat at this location & it's usually crowded with a wait line. We went there dinner time on Saturday & to our surprise there was no wait & hardly any customers. The menu looked smaller & to our surprise, they don't serve hot tea! We odered 2 Ahi Poke Gunkan & 1 plate was mild (spicy) while the other was flaming HOT (too spicy). Another order was mixed up with another customer's. It can't be more frustrating than waiting for your order when the place is literally empty. Even the salad dressing was thicker & different than normal. Ambiance was just not there! Not sure if we'll ever go there again. Over the years, portions have gotten smaller & prices go up. The adults liked how things arrived as they were made instead of waiting for everyone's order. The food was all good. Nothing super special but not anything I wouldn't have ordered again if I returned. We tried about 15 different menu items. The prices were reasonable. We got there at a good time as we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table. When we were leaving the wait time had grown to 45 minutes. If you're in a group larger than 4-5 be prepared to be split up between two tables. That may have been the only down side to the experience. We were given our drink orders by a human but on the way out we saw a robot server delivering drinks. The kids liked that. read more

As much as I love genki sushi, this experience was not it. The things that were enjoyable was the spicy ahi udon, the spicy tuna sushi, and the fried squid combos. for what we didnt enjoy was the wagyu beef and the sukiyaki bowl. the wagyu was just drenched in unagi sauce and was very tough to chew. let alone, its one piece for $7.25.. and for the picture below, that is the sukiyaki beef bowl. not only was the cuts of meat all fat but there was a puddle of oil and shoyu at the bottom of the rice and it was salty as hell. and also it was 90% onions and 10% meat. and for the service portion towards the end, i probably pressed the pay button 8 times and waited 15 minutes for someone to finally help us pay the tab. as much as i love genki, this experience was least pleasant. read more

Convenient location for conveyer belt sushi. The food offerings are standard - nothing that really stands out, but prices are affordable. Presentation of the items aren't always the greatest but the food usually comes out quick via the race cars. This location serves alcohol, which is a plus. I've noticed flies near the dining area before and I have photos of them on the call buttons, so I stayed away for a bit. However, on my most recent visit with friends, I didn't notice any flies. I'm actually shocked on the overall rating for this location!? My other and I dined in on 4th of July, anticipating that it would be crowed, I called and there was no wait time for a party of 2, we dined in around 3pm and shortly after being seated the place got a bit more packed, but didn't affect our service. We usually don't come to genki but since kurukuru closed down this is our next option. I notice the prices have went up but I'd hope the quality would be better too, we typically order a spread of items off the menu and they have specials. I ordered the Uni hand roll and the Uni bites, i've had better quality of Uni at other restaurants and outside of Hawaii, You can tell it was not fresh may have been frozen, but was not terrible. The place was actually very big. I've only been to this location a handful of times. The tables are good for a family of four or five and they also do have single seating. It was air-conditioned and the food came quite quick from the kitchen. We probably spent about $200 for our whole dining experience. I would give it four stars, because the kitchen did miss a few of our items that I didn't get until the end of our dining experience but we had a really great server, I believe the person's name was skai, super respectful, very apologetic and helpful I mean overall I'm big on customer service and that person did outstanding, even on a holiday that most staff hope to have off still was nice. PLEASE GIVE THAT PERSON A RAISE! I would definitely come back in hopes that I would be served by the same person. I came in for lunch on a Wednesday and had no problems being seated right away at the counter. Everything is ordered thru your phone by scanning the QR code. The server did ask me for my drink order right after seating me and my soda was brought over promptly. It wasn't busy and noticed all other parties coming after me being seated right away also. It is a family friendly restaurant with families seated in booths since it is summer. All my food came out the right temp and quickly. The karaage and string bean tempura was a little darker than usual but I didn't mind as it didn't taste burnt. I tried the new yuzu aioli salmon and it was eh, not worth the $5.85 price tag. This is the first time I ever had to write a review for a restaurant. We went to this location because its the most convenient for us but our server needs better work on focusing on customer service even if you are busy with other customers response is better than none at all. First we got seated and server Azihylyn already stated "i'll be your server but im also serving the other tables". We knew how this experience would have been once she stated that. We got orders coming in and everything is pretty much order on the qr code. We ordered a side order of garlic mayo. We asked her for it she states "can you give me a second" mind you customers right you work based on your service. Then we let it go we waited two of our cups of water was empty already she came to refill once never came back. All the food came and were just casually eating mind you we dont have water anymore. We saw her cleaning the tables and wiping them and said "excuse me can we get more water" server responds with "can you give me a moment" like wheres the customer service. Never did bother to ask her anymore for water so instead I timed her 8:35PM to see if she would refill our water NEVER DID SINCE WE got the bill. Secondly, there are still families waiting outside to be seated she asked to hand the ginger and wasabi WHY? there's still customers coming in you guys are still open. If I had a chance to speak with their store manager I would have on the spot. Your tip is earned and deserved dont expect them. Treat your customers as if you were the customer. I work for a company that deals with customer so shocked by the way Azihylyn performed. We were better off driving to another location but no we considered convenience. I don't know why we keep coming back here. The service gets worse and worse every time we come here. From putting multiple orders on one plate, (some people do not or cannot share because other people in the party might be sick, so sharing from one plate may not be reasonable,) to serving hot plates cold. I mean, not even a little bit warm. Both my kids ordered a char siu bowl and later, an arabiki plate, both came out COLD. Not even attempting for it to be cooked, let alone, left at room temperature. The wait for our plates was ridiculously long, and it kept getting served off center to where we were sitting at, or to the people sitting next to us. The same happened to the people sitting next to us, the train came out in front of us instead of them. We canceled our last two plates because it was taking way too long for it to come out. This location is convenient to where we live, so we keep coming back here, but I seriously don't think we should come back. I've never been to a Genki that ran out of white rice. And then when asking a waiter--he could not explain it... Sorry I have a really hard time understanding how a sushi place can run out of white rice when 90% of their items have white rice in it.. Anyways, overall communicating anything to the waiter was very difficult. He couldn't understand us...and we definitely couldn't understand him. Also never ever, did I get 2 different nigiri's on one plate. They put seaweed salad and tomato on the same plate?!....Although they are not fish, how do they know if its for the same person because it WAS NOT! Had to do an updated review! After all the renovations, from revolving belt to touch pads, robots, and now "bullet trains" Genki Sushi has improved a lot from my last review! The workers are more attentive to customers! Restaurant looks cleaner. Also the quality of food has improved BIG time! And I love their new food items, mini bowls to ramen. Genki made it so easy to order with the QR code system. But make sure your phone/tablet batteries have enough charge LOL! If not, you can always order from your server. My kids love going to this Genki...I think it's because of the Gatcha machines in front haha! So a huge Good job! to Genki for all the improvements to this location! read more

Loved the tasty bits and the service was wonderful. Our water was always filled and our meals came out in a timely fashion. Very filling. Every dish tasted delicious, especially the vegetable tempura and chicken teriyaki was different than I ever had before. My kids especially enjoyed this place. I was so excited to enjoy my meal at Genki Sushi! I've always loved the fun concept of food being delivered by a little car, it makes the dining experience so unique and playful. Since I was on a budget, I only ordered a couple of dishes, but to my surprise, my favorite was the Keiki plate. It came with a tiny Calpico yogurt drink, imitation crab, egg, tofu skin, and a little piece of Spam, such a cute and satisfying combo! I also had a beef bowl, which was a good portion and flavorful. The only concern I had was right before we were seated, I noticed a small cockroach walking near the area where the food is served. I asked to be seated elsewhere, and thankfully the staff accommodated the request without issue. When anyone wants to save money on sushi, it's almost customary to go to Genki. We visited to check out their specials, but unfortunately half of the $80 worth of food we ordered here did not get to us, or was just straight up not what we ordered. Ever since the trains got installed, I swear the order accuracy just gets worse and worse. I wanted to post a picture of their seasonal karaage gunkan, but we never got it. We called the server 3 times for water refills, wrong orders, and to ask a question and we just didn't want to keep calling them over for things that just could've been prevented. I don't believe that we should need to keep calling that loud call button just to get our water refilled, but maybe that's just me. Also, a couple of our nigiri had half sized fish in comparison to others which felt like a ripoff. We don't expect much from Genki, but we definitely expect at least a decent experience. read more

The waiters were rude and lazy. There was no interaction between them and guests, they used robots to serve drinks and sides. The restaurant was so slow, yet they depended on the robot to do all their work. They also charged for kids water. Adult water was free but kids had to be charged? Cravings satisfied! This is one of my favorite Genki Sushi locations due to the distance from home but most importantly the special and unique items that their menu holds. For example I came in for lunch this week and on their menu specific to this location they have Ramen and wow! It's delicious. Upon trying this it has been the norm to order it first. They have Miso, Tan Tan, Shoyu and is displayed in an aesthetically pleasing dish. Their service is quick and the ambiance is comfortable. Whether you're served by train on the track next to you, a robot waiter or even the staff it's always a fun and an oiishi experience here. The menu is displayed on each tabletop and counter but each section has a QR code for a virtual menu and to view your check which can be paid up front. I thoroughly enjoy this location! Great experience at Genki Waikele last night! We've been waiting for this location to reopen since it's one of the better Genki, in my opinion, and they serve alcohol. In the meantime of renovations, my family's been enjoying Genki's Ewa Beach location which is very close to our home. Last night was one for the books! I don't ever recall being served so attentively, and my wife and I were stoked to see NEW items on the ever-so-mundane menu. To our surprise, Genki now serves UNI, a variety of ramen, steamed scallop nigiri, shrimp temp nigiri, red sea snail nigiri, tsubugai, fried baby octopus, takoyaki (made better than before), hamburger, and a variety of Genki Bites. Unfortunately, we had a late dinner - arrived around 745 with a wait of roughly 15 mins. By the time we were ordering, they had sold out of the uni and scallops, but now we know they got it, we'll be back to try again. And they better have it! Lol jk. Since my initial dinner suggestion was Tanaka Ramen, I had to give the Tonkotsu Ramen a try after noticing this addition to the menu. Omg! I was impressed and so was my wife!!! Not gonna lie, I was expecting something watered down and basic (like the udon), but the noodles were chewy and delicious, and that broth was so rich and flavorful!! Good job, Genki! The ramen was served with a thick slice of chashu, garlic chips, bamboo, green onions, nori and sesame seeds. Definitely wish they had rayu, but daaaaang.... We were impressed with the $8 bowl. Another awesome newbie is the fried baby octopus. Eat it hot and squeeze the lemon over it and I think you'll be happy as well. Like other fried things, it's a bit greasy, but I was surely pleased by its crunchy perfection... mmmm... yum, yum, yum! As I've mentioned in another Genki review, with hopes to help with the enjoyment of your meal - keep in mind that Genki is NOT an authentic sushi restaurant with chef quality preparations and personalized, custom ordering. The process is now more self-serve; scan the provided QR code and scroll to find your selections. Near the serving belt are controls to call your server or request the check by the push of a button. It is typically busy on week nights and weekends, and wait times can get a bit long (30-60 mins). The great thing now is that you can wait in the comfort of your vehicle, unlike the old school style when you'd have to wait in a crowd and hope the next guy don't have the same name as you hahaha! This location was very disappointing. The wait was very long. I put my name on the list at 8pm and was not seated until 9pm. Luckily I had a few places I went to while I waited. When we were taken to our seating the waitress wanted to put 5 of us into a small booth. I asked her to separate us into 2 booths and she was hesitant at first. It took a few mins before the waitress decided to seat us into two booths. Ordering our food was easy on our phones, but the wait for food was long. It took about 25 mins before the first few plates started to arrive. As the food started coming it was not satisfying. An order of the Uni was spoiled. The smell was very very fishy and my sister took a bite of the Uni and within 10 mins she had to run to the restroom. At this point it has been 45mins and we had to cancel the remaining 6 orders we hadn't received as we wanted to leave already. The staff were friendly and understanding with our situation. They did remove the Uni order, but nothing else was said or done to rectify the bad Uni and how it caused my sister to get sick. One of the many stops while on vacation visiting family. Genki has changed over the years. I was pretty sad to see they removed the floating boats. They now have "speed trains" to serve your food. I agree with Wendy C.'s review. I just went this week and 3 stars is generous for this location. It's more 2 stars but the 3rd is for the food & Genki Sushi brand. We experienced the same issue and then some. First off checking in for Dine In; 1 of us checked in- we were 2nd and had to wait outside bc no waiting space inside. The 1st up got seated so the. 2 of us go in so they don't forget us bc we became next in line of the order for groups, & the host almost forgot us bc they asked if we were "so & so"- a group after us. The host asked if we needed specific utensils instead of waiting at the table- which I thought was odd tbh bc the other locations ask when we're seated. Still nice host tho. As for the food- it was all delicious except the spicy California roll 4pc- it's not a yummy spicy, it just hits you all over with the spice.It tasted like a numbing type but it hits your whole palate. As for the plating- they grouped together double orders of items. I guess bc they're rushing to save dishes.
