Make sure to pay attention to your phone so you'll know when it's your turn. They'll come outside and cash your name. We waited less then 10 minutes. Go to the table where they tell you to go sure directly abs shan the QR code at the table that's your table number and you'll order from there. So easy once you get it right. Wow the service here wasn't very professional. The server knocked on the window to call us in from outside. The proceeded to sit us and not give us any direction on how to order. The food took forever to come out. When it did it came out in waves few and far between even though I ordered everything at once. The specials was a spicy ahi udon which honestly was crap, do not order this. And the other was shumai which never came out because I was never told it was unavailable. Genki Sushi at Maui Mall is quick and fun. The place is super easy to get to-tons of parking-and it's right by Fun Factory and just down the way from Guri Guri, so you can't miss it. You can check in with a QR code, but when we showed up, one of the staff came out to tell us to sit wherever we wanted. Ordering is a breeze with their online menu, and the best part? Your sushi gets delivered by a bullet train on a conveyor track. We tried the crab salad, uni, seared salmon, and a couple maki rolls. While conveyor belt sushi is not my preferred sushi, the food hit the spot. They have lunch specials Monday through Thursday for just $5.99, and if you want more than sushi, bentos are on the menu too. The staff swing by to refill drinks, but mostly, it's just you, the sushi, a conveyor belt, and a robot. Paying is simple-just head up to the register when you're done. read more

When we went here we had to scan a QR code to get a spot in line. It was kind of like a race to get in line. There was this one lady with her daughter who did not scan the QR code at all and still got seated. It was kind of frustrating. No one sat us and we had to choose our own seats but our sever was a nice elderly man. We ordered our food and it was good. The california roll is really good. It has been years since I've stepped inside this location at the Maui Mall. But we ended up here tonight after wandering around town in search of something cheap and easy. Gone are the nostalgic days of grabbing things from the conveyer belt and being charged by how many plates (and what color) you have stacked at the end of your meal. Drinks and soups are now brought to the table by a robot. Yes, a robot on wheels that talks and is powered by AI. QR code menus have replaced ordering from humans as well. Your food still gets sent out on the belt and stops at your table (if you're lucky) then beeps at you until you push a button to send the little boat on its way back to the kitchen. I'm sure it's pretty cool if you're a kid living in the modern world, but it made me kinda sad that the only real people working were bussing, running the register and hosting/manning the door. Still loving this sushi restaurant with it's quirky sushi train delivery and robotic cat waiters. I've been quite a few times now because it is quick, easy and delish. You use a QR to order which makes it quick. I love the miso soup, they serve small cheap portions so you can experiment with tasting a number of dishes, and today I found the stuffed mushrooms were very moreish, my usual spicy tuna sushi mouth tingling with a hot dusting of spice, and the service as good as usual. Please do not eat at Genki Sushi at Maui Mall. 1. The work environment and work ethic in my opinion has taken a nose dive as of lately. The Genki Sushi I remember used to be full of happy employees and amazing customer service. But now, that seems to have changed. Any time my family and I are there now the employees look like they don't even want to be there and when we or other customers ask for help they are ignored and the servers act as if they can't hear them and go right back to standing by the register or by the door doing nothing. Where is the aloha spirit? Where is the amazing customer service that was once a staple of this restaurant? So sad what the service of this amazing restaurant has come to. 2. The food and food process is horrible. So many times as of recently my family and I have gone there expecting an amazing food experience. But when our food arrives, most of it is not fully made/cooked correctly. Fried items are still raw or cold, fish items and crab items taste and look like they have gone bad or are expired, finding strands of hair and pieces of god knows what in our food, and the food looks as if it was just thrown onto the plate with no care for the food quality or presentation. We've sent food back to the kitchen to be remade or fixed up and you can imagine our shock when we over hear servers and kitchen staff actively talking bad about us just because we had to send something back to the the kitchen. 3. Now for the reason I finally decided to leave this review as a WARNING!!!! Yesterday my husband and I took our kids to eat at Genki for a late lunch and as we were eating our food my husband and I both saw what we believed to be a large cockroach crawling around the tables, not a little one but a large one. A 747 cockroach. If you are from Hawaii or at least a local, you know that a 747 cockroach is not just a small roach. We both brushed it off telling ourselves we were just seeing things or we saw wrong, but then we begin to see even more huge 747 cockroach's running around the restaurant and through the tables. Not to mention actively witnessing a server sweep up a dead 747 cockroach right in our eye view and trying to throw it away quickly as if trying to hide it from customers. We both instantly became disgusted and no longer even wanted to eat our food anymore and wanted to stop our kids from eating also. As if that wasn't already bad enough, we then find out that not only does this restaurant have giant cockroaches, but they also have rats. RATS!!! Apparently they have rats that run around the restaurant but also around the kitchen, where our food that we eat is being made. I immediately wanted to vomit. Looked at my husband and he said what I was thinking. "We are leaving". We got up, grabbed our kids, paid for a barely eaten meal, and left. We were so disgusted and mad. You're serving your customers food that is made in a kitchen with RATS and you have giant ROACHES running around. Don't get me wrong, no restaurant or business is perfect but the service and food here has already been getting bad and now this. Also finding out later in the day from people we know that previously worked at Genki Sushi that management and the bosses of this restaurant do not do a thing to make any changes. And finding out that they just put on a show whenever they have to for higher ups and once it's blown over they go right back to not caring about their employees or their customers experience. I do truly believe that the change that needs to be made is in management and in the people who run this restaurant. As for the employees and staff, well you can't really blame them and you can't expect much when the management, bosses and higher ups don't care about the customers, staff, cleanliness of their restaurant or the way their restaurant is ran. One thing I know is that we will NEVER be returning again. So please, take this as a WARNING!!! Please do not eat at Genki Sushi at Maui Mall. You'll get sick, get poisoned, or just have an all around bad experience. This restaurant needs to make major improvements and changes on customer service on both the employee side of things and the management side of things. This restaurant needs to be shut down for changes and for fumigation and cleaning. Should not remain open or re open until major changes are made and can be verified to be clean. Still debating on posting this elsewhere because I know not everyone checks or reads the yelp reviews. But may post elsewhere if changes are not made. I can't just sit by knowing what I experienced and allow others to risk having the same experience that I and my family have had. It is also not fair to customers to risk getting sick or worse due to not knowing what is happening. So heartbreaking. read more

I would definitely not recommend this place. Server was rude from the moment we walked in. Asked if we wanted a table or sit at bar, we said table, he said to tables available. Not sure why he asked if no tables were available. We sat at bar and quickly noticed everything had seaweed and we can't eat seaweed. We asked if they had soy wrap he rudely said no, this is Japanese restaurant, we don't have soy. I said I know that you are a Japanese restaurant, every other Japanese Sushi place I've eaten at offer either soy or no wrap. He said everything had seaweed in a very curt and rude tone. It's been years since I visited this Genki Sushi location and they have definitely upgraded since my last visit. I highly recommend joining the waitlist prior to arriving so there isn't a wait. We walked in without a reservation 1 hour before closing and waited maybe 20 minutes for a party of 5. My kids enjoyed ordering on the tables and having the bullet train delivery their orders. They do have a seasonal menu. I tried the hamachi carpaccio and it was delicious! We will definitely be back on our next trip to Maui. read more

As soon as we landed, all of us want sushi somehow. Upon checking, we decided to try this place. The staff gave us a piece of paper with a barcode that we have to scan to see the menu and to place our order. It's very easy and straightforward. Frankly, if you're not familiar with this system, you'll have a hard time ordering to navigate, especially if the staff unhelpful. Maybe that's why this place has such bad reviews. Our staff was great, she explained it clear. The foods we ordered tasted great and the portions were good for us. The ambiance is very casual with local vibe. The food came promptly after you sent the orders in. They do not serve beer or any alcoholic beverages. The fried items were extremely greasy. Portions are tiny here compared to other revolving sushi. The restaurant has an old mold smell to it like the place needs a humidifier or air freshener. Haven't been in ages to what was my favorite place to go as a keiki! It's been so long this is my first time with the new system where you order on the tablet! I have to say was better than I thought! Being a sushi spot with revolving sushi like Kura Kura I already lowered my expectations. So have to say overall I enjoyed it! The monthly special hamachi carpaccio was bomb! I could eat a few of these myself if I wanted to splurge. I missed getting a good pic and could only get a snap of a video of it coming off the belt lol. The maki sushi are great deals gotta get the takuan and the cucumber. They have these cute cups for the keiki too and if you no like them drink soda you can buy the cup for 50 cents and have them put water in it. The service is terrible, it wasnt busy but they only brought water for 3/5 of us. When they finally brought the other 2 waters, only one had ice (fine, we can handle that) but then when our food came, we had to get our own utensils. We ordered via the QR code, and my SIL's food never came. When we asked the waitress about it, she was busy munching on something so we couldn't understand her while she was talking with her mouth full, when we asked her to clarify what she said, she got sassy. I understand that, but that's not something you need to share over and over with your customers. Wanna know something interesting? I went to culinary school and one of the chefs shared interesting information that many restaurants do not survive the first year. I had to Google to ensure my memory isn't giving out, National Restaurant Association states about 60% fail in the first year, while 80% fail after five. It's been 8 years since my Genki Sushi reviews and boy, a lot has changed. I was here last weekend with family and decided it's time for an update. Despite the situation, Hep A (2016), COVID19, Maui Fires, Genki Kahului has made it past it's doom date and will probably remain a staple at Maui Mall. (Sorry Genki Lahaina, I'll never forget you.) Back then, you could sit here for hours while watching conveyor belt shopping as you watch sushi pass by. Later, in the day they introduced the shinkansen, where you had a touch pad. And the pad allowed you to send a request to the kitchen and dishes ordered would be delivered to the table. This was my preferred method rather than waiting for something I like on the belt. Then Covid came and major changes were made. They removed the menus on the table, touch pad and the call button and introduced an app/weblink where all the communication happens. Kinda lame in my opinion. While dining here over the weekend, I observed a family with an elderly grandpa in the group, he attempted to order with the waitress but was told all orders only through the app. Did not even proceed to help him navigate ordering thru his phone. This new system discriminates against those who can't use a phone or don't have one and I don't see a benefit in using a web based ordering platform. If they had left the touch pad, it could be sanitized in between use by either the customer or employee. With the automation, the service has also gone downhill. Our waitress asked if anyone wanted water (water only) and soft drinks could be ordered on the app. Someone wanted sprunch, but there's no way to order that on the app and include a note to mix the drinks... Everyone wants to hate on McDonalds but even their online orders allow you to put a note and before you pick up, you can ask them to make it scrunch. Whatever. Waitress came back to serve wasabi/ginger. At that time we attempted to tell her that a soft drink was ordered on the app, but we would like sprunch. She was half walking away while I was speaking! Later, I asked for more condiments and she did the same, walking away without letting me finish. I must be aging if this is considered as service. Anyways, after we finished our meal, the app offered an option to call for the check. There use to be a button on the table and on the touch pad to call them to the table. This is so they can count and verify plates. I guess since everything is ordered by online there's no need for them to come by...? Why bother putting this button on the link if it doesn't even work.. Tried 4x and no one bothered to come. Had to basically block someone in to ask for a refill. After 15 min of waiting I finally went to the counter to pay. I get shift changes and everyone wants to go home, but there was no other customers waiting to pay and they weren't trying to help me check out. (We should've just walked out if they don't want to ring me up so bad.) After waiting maybe 5 minutes, someone took my payment. Horrible service aside, food was as I remember. The spicy tunas on everything... the sweet unagi sauce.. all the fried things are served hot. Lol. Food is still delivered on the shinkansen and comes out fast, they also bought back fried oyster. =] So, covid bought about a bunch of changes, Genkis is implementing changes to make the dining experience safe which is great, but unfortunately the staff makes dining bad. Hopefully other islands aren't this bad, it's unfortunate Maui only has one and this is how they act. read more

So we went to dinner here this evening after catching up a movie. Figured we would be in and out and were not super hungry. The food was ok some items you could tell were old from the smell. Most of the item were pretty fresh. Service was ok. Pretty much after we were seated no one came back to check on us. Not until we motioned someone over after multiple tries that one of the girls came over. Food seemed to take forever. Watching the delivery it almost seemed like who ever was in the kitchen was only working on one table at a time. I ordered primarily nigiri as that is what I mostly eat when we go out for sushi. I'm not a big roll person. So our order should not have taken very long. My girlfriend got most of her items right away but I waited for a considerable amount of time. The food was ok when we did finally get it. The ambiance is the same as it has always been. Sterile and boring so there is not much to say about that. Sadly it seems customer service has fallen off considerably. Food is decent for the most part. At one point they opened or were cooking something in the back and it permeated the restaurant with a horrible old hot past its prime bad seafood smell. I don't eat raw fish soo can't tell you quality on that but the cooked stuff and non traditional sushi (e.g. tempura roll) is good. Service has been ok, even when short. Stars knocked off because my husband had an allergic reaction so cross contamination is real. This location is all too often busy, so it's nice they have an app check in. Good amount of booths and bar seating available but gets busy fast. Not many sushi places to eat in Maui, especially those that cater to non-raw fish eaters. read more

I love coming here for some quick cheap sushi, the only thing that bothered me today was they didn't have a lot of things that were on the menu. It would show up on the tablet but say sold out, they didn't even have basic ahi nigiri but they had the garlic ahi.. which didn't make sense to me. But otherwise the service is still great, it does get busy so you just have to be patient but i've found that coming earlier during lunch or early dinner is best for a shorter wait. read more

Had to flag down someone, and instead of checking for us, or apologizing, simply said "oh that goes to the register." So i asked do I go up to get/pay there, and she said "oh, if you want too". We came here for the first time on a Tuesday night and there was a wait, I was able to put my name on the list through their waitlist app. We were sat and quickly greeted by our server Jennifer (I believe that was her name), we told her it was our first time and she explained to us how it worked. We order through a tablet, the prices depend on the plate color. The prices are not bad at all. Unfortunately when we finally looked at the menu, they were out of most of the things we wanted ordered. But the plates we did get to order were scrumptious. The garlic ebi and crunchy shrimp were my favorite. We ordered 8 plates and a soda for $52. The service was good, but the food took quite awhile to come out.
