Brought car in for an issue because it wouldn't pass the initial inspection. When I arrived, they didn't have a record of my appointment. They took me anyway. Tuesday, they start work. I don't hear anything, so I call later in the day. Told me the OBD connector is corroded. $300 part, $800 total parts and labor. I agreed to that. Wednesday said still waiting for the part. Thursday late in the day, say part is in, and they will diagnose on Friday. Get a call on Friday around 2, saying so far they are up to almost $3000 in parts and labor. I never agreed to the added costs, but it's too late now. Work has been done. This is the second VW dealer I have tried out. Probably the last time with VW. Last car I had for almost 400k miles, the car before was 235k miles. One was Toyota, the other was Pontiac. Never again dealing with VW dealerships. TOTAL SCAM. Update, 4 days later, the check engine light came on. Decided to call to see if they stand behind their work. Told the person on the phone that the car stalled and the check engine light is still on. Asked if they could at least plug it in to scan the engine code. "Sorry, we are busy, and the earliest they can see me is sometime next week." Wow, the concern coming over the phone almost brought me to tears. read more

Very frustrating experience. We brought our car in for service after being told twice over the phone and again in person when dropping it off that the work would take 2.5 hours. When we returned 2.5 hours later, we discovered the work had not even been started. The garage had chosen to prioritize other jobs without notifying us. When we asked about it, they claimed it was our fault for not specifying a pickup time, but this does not match our prior experiences with them. In our prior two appointments with the garage, we were able to rely on their time estimates without needing to provide extra scheduling details. Since no work had been started, we decided to take the car back rather than wait any longer. For what it is worth, we did buy our car here and that experience was positive, but, when it comes to the service department, I would not recommend them. The sales staff are rude, unprofessional, and the entire dealership feels decades behind the times--in the worst possible way. The experience was miserable from start to finish, and I ultimately chose to take my business elsewhere, where basic respect still exists. What's even more concerning is the lack of transparency. Gensinger Motors claims to have its own VW auto body shop, but in reality, they outsource the work to a third-party shop--Fantastic Plastic in Clifton, NJ. That kind of misrepresentation is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the Volkswagen brand as a whole. At first, I thought maybe we just encountered one bad employee--but it quickly became clear this isn't an isolated issue. I brought my vehicle to Jack Daniels Volkswagen Service Center in Fair Lawn for a scheduled appointment today regarding an issue they supposedly repaired twice 3 years ago--and never actually fixed it. The problem was a clogged panoramic roof drain that caused water to leak into my car, soaking the carpet and padding and leaving a strong, persistent mold odor. (now known as a common problem with 21' Atlas's) The 1st time they "fixed" it, they told me everything was fine and the carpet had been cleaned. When I picked up the car, the mold smell hit me immediately. I went straight back inside and told them the issue clearly wasn't resolved. They kept the car again (after giving me a hard time about a loaner which I never got) and later claimed they found the leak and replaced the carpet and padding. When I picked it up the 2nd time, the mold smell was still there. I was told "it will go away." With two babies at the time, that was completely unacceptable. I reached out to a friend and asked what they would do in my situation. They knew somebody at another Volkswagen service center Gensinger in Clifton. They called Ken Goss their contact at that service center and explained to him what I just went through. He said that he knew about that being an issue with the panorama roofs and for me to come by as soon as I wanted to drop off my car at their service center and they would supply me with a loaner car no problem. When I arrived they immediately handled the situation professionally, gave me a loaner without hesitation, and actually fixed the problem. I was also told because of the flawed design of the drain there is a possibility that it can happen again. I was also told by their team that the carpet and padding had never been replaced at Jack Daniels, despite me being told otherwise. That means I was lied to. Fast forward 3years--the issue has returned. I decided to give Jack Daniels another chance instead of driving farther. That was a mistake. When I arrived today, I was first checked in by Aapuna at the front desk. After explaining again the reason for my appointment he brought over Donald Fisher, the mechanic who originally worked on my car three years ago. At this time Donald told me there was nothing they could do because the issue was from 3 years ago and I no longer have a warranty. Then I explained I have extended warranty, where he replied that since I went to another VW service center after the 2 times I had my car "fixed" there that my warranty is now null and void and they are not doing anything to the car. Then Aapuna (the check in guy)said "if you went somewhere else because we gave you bad service then why come back here!" Soon two more employees joined in telling me different variations of "your sh*t out of luck". I then called to find out about my warranty and I was assured that my car can be serviced at any VW service center and it should be no issue. So I told them and then one guy said possibly if I can produce the hard paper copy of my warranty they might be able to do something but unlikely; despite explaining the full history, none of them offered any real help or resolution including the manager, Eric Eichoff.After 25 minutes of back-and-forth, I had five employees standing there telling me there was nothing they could do. Even after I physically bringing in my warranty paperwork. Meanwhile, I called the Volkswagen service center Gensinger in Clifton and spoke with Ken Goss , and he immediately told me to bring the car in and they would take care of everything--no arguments, no excuses, and a loaner ready.The difference in professionalism is night and day.The behavior at Jack Daniels Volkswagen service center was dismissive, unhelpful, and frankly unacceptable. Based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone to think twice before bringing their vehicle here. I was misled about repairs, denied proper support, and given incorrect information about my warranty.Trust is everything when it comes to servicing your vehicle--and unfortunately, I don't believe this service center has earned it. read more

I went here around 4:30 looking to get an oil change because it says they are open till 6. I didn't have an appointment and was trying to use the VW Xpress service. I get there and they say "oh no we can't take you the technicians leave at 3pm, it says that on the website" well just so you know it doesn't. Handing over my info to a 3rd party isn't a gift by any means ! Also, not a fan of the waiting room. I'd go somewhere else for your warranty / recall work if you need to wait a long period of time. Terrible service! Brought my ID.4 in to have the recalls fixed. Due to issues with software download, they couldn't fix it and needed engineers from Germany to help them. My car ended up being there for over a month. Technically not their fault, but the way they handled it just reflected the poor service and greed of this place. For the first week, they kept telling me it would be ready the next day or in 2 days. It was not and they never called to give me an update. In fact, I never got any updates unless I called even though they said they would let me know. Meanwhile, I had no car and they didn't provide me with a loaner until I complained about it. The loaner was not an EV so now I'm paying for gas. Then, they tell me they have no idea when the car will get fixed b/c they're waiting on Germany. Ok, fine so I ask them to keep me updated every other day even if the update is that they're still waiting. I never got any updates update from them until I called. We also filed a case with VW to expedite and even filed for lemon law and with BBB. Within a week of doing that and after calling them for an update, finally found out that they got the instructions from Germany on what to do. Though still took 3 more days after that. While I can understand there was a dependency outside their control, the level of service here was completely dismal. If they didn't keep up their commitment to just call and keep me updated, how do I know they were doing all they could to get a response from VW? Furthermore, how could you have so little pull or connections that they can't even escalate to get a response and a customer has more pull than them. Doesn't give me confidence that they're a respected dealer with VW. Here's the final straw. In course of all this, someone I talked to said they could reimburse me for gas since loaner is gas and I had an EV. I bring my receipts to get reimbursed and they completely denied it and said I need to take it up with VW, but I'm 100% sure they told me this. Not only that, I needed $5 of gas in the loaner for it to be considered in the same condition as when I got it. You'd think after all this hassle and going back on reimbursing for gas, they would let this go. But no. The general manager came out and said they needed the $5 in gas. I asked if he cared that his customer has gone thru all this hassle, leaving with an even worse experience, and he's losing a customer over $5. He said that's fine and he didn't care. If you want to work with a place that cares about their customers and has standing with the car company they work with, don't come here. read more

I went in for my yearly service and they charged a 3% service charge for using a credit card. I can't believe they are hurting that bad to charge it customers this fee, I mean do they expect me to be carrying over $500 in cash. Seem nothing more then greed on the part of this dealership. My husband recently bought a 2022 ID.4 and had a lot of trouble finding a dealership that wasn't charging a huge dealership fee/markup on MSRP. Gensinger was the exception. He got on their list for one and when someone cancelled, he jumped at it. He went down and did all the paperwork, but needed a certified check for the down payment so they got all the paperwork done and he went back the next day to process that and his trade in. It was seamless. Probably the most positive car buying experience either one of us has ever had, and it was quick! It wasn't hours long to get everything done. The first day he was there for about an hour and the second the whole process took maybe 45 minutes. They got his plates in 2 days later! I know we'll be back if we decide to buy another VW. A true rarity in car buying these days it feels like. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. Paid $2600 to fix rear main seal. 200 miles later, rear main seal failed, lost 3 quarts of oil and engine seized. They denied responsibility, wouldn't fix the car (despite warranty) and now the car is on the trash heap. Stay clear. read more

I brought in my car a couple weeks ago to have the radio and water pump fixed. They wouldn't give me a loaner because they said my car was still in drivable condition...fine. I live 45 minutes away from this service center but still didn't argue with them over that. Before going to pick up my car I get a call from them saying my light back up light bulb is out and if I wanted to fix it, it would be $40 something dollars. I say okay to getting it changed and an hour or two later he calls me back and tells me my car is ready to be picked up. When I arrive to pick up my car I pay and the service guy brings out my car to me. He then proceeds to tell me the light in my car is still on and that the issue with the bulb is not resolved. But to check it out when I go home maybe the light will turn off. I was late to work so I leave and when I go home my fiancé and I check the light and its NOT WORKING. The next day a lady at the service center calls me to see how my service is and I tell her good that she called because I was going to call her myself. I proceed to tell her that the light still doesn't work and that I would like a refund. She tells me she's not allowed to do that. I tell her what is the issue you changed my bulb its still not working its only fair she refunds me. She doesn't so she transfers me to the manager. I speak to the manager who also wouldn't refund over the phone but he tells me if I bring back the car they will take the new bulb out, put the old one back in and refund the money. I say ok and then get transferred back to the lady who gives me an appointment the following week. This same lady calls me back 30 MINUTES LATER to tell me that she doesn't have my time available anymore and the next Saturday she has available is in APRIL. I tell her that doesn't work for me and she says the only day she has is today FEB.19. NOW, lets come to this MORNING where I wake up early to go to my 10AM apt. again living 45 minutes away. Tell me how I get to the apt. and the smart man tells me he cant give me a refund. He then calls another smart man over I think his name was KENNY. Who tells me they didn't approve the refund, the manager who I spoke with was off, and that he couldn't help me or give me the refund. He then says I'm not sure why they didn't call you to let you know you didn't have approval yet. I have never in my life seen or heard of such a horrible horrible customer service in my life. You want to be rude and not help your customers out for $40. My fiancé has a Lexus, my parents Toyota and I have never heard of them being in a situation like this. Totally unprofessional and bad bad bad customer service. No apologies, I even asked them to call the manager and they wouldn't they just stupidly and blankly stared at me with no solution. I can't wait to get rid of my Volkswagen and never have to deal with these kind of people. I will be telling everyone I know on social media, family, friends not to ever consider getting your cars. I bought my 2018 Tiguan from Gensinger and have only used them for service. I've bought tires from them as well. They are charging a 3% service charge for all credit and debit card payments and I did not happen to have an envelope of cash laying around this evening. I needed one of four injectors replaced at 74k miles. They recommended replacing all four, so I said okay. My car was 2k miles out of warranty so it's a $1600+ bill. They tell me that they only have one injector in stock but I shouldn't drive the car. They kept it for 5 days and told me that they didn't have any loaners available. So, I have to rent a car for 5 days and then pay an extra 3% on the bill. To top it off, when they called me to tell me my car was ready, they told me I could wait an extra day if I wanted the complementary car wash because the guy who washes the car had left 10 minutes ago. Out of all the times my car was serviced there it was washed once, and to be honest it was a pretty underwhelming job. So, because of the $48 surcharge they are losing me and my husband as customers. We both only drive VWs and are in the market for a new one and we are sure as hell not buying it there and it's pretty much around the corner from our house. We will literally be going out of our way to find another dealership. read more

After visiting other VW dealerships, I came to Gensinger looking for a specific color (black) Tiguan. I was quickly greeted by Armen, whom I told what model & color I was looking for. Although he told me that he didn't have that color, he reassured me that he'd be able to get the car in 3-4 days. (The other 3 dealerships didn't offer this and just plainly told me that my only options were "silver and blue") With that being said, he patiently explained all the features and showed me the same model with a different exterior color. (The other 3 dealerships gave me a piece of paper with the features instead of personally explaining & demonstrating). Given Armen's patience and generous deal to finance a car, I decided to sign a contract that day. The process was smooth and quick! This was on a Tuesday. On Wednesday, Armen called me that my credit has been approved and that he's waiting for my VIN. On Thursday, Armen called me with my VIN so that I can get an insurance policy. (He told me that he's off on Friday but gave me his personal # to call if I had any questions) On Saturday, Armen called me to tell me that the car was at the dealership and asked me what day I'd like to pick it up. Overall, I'm satisfied with Armen's professionalism, especially his communication with me through every single step of the process. I felt well-informed about my decision. read more

I never mentioned a trade in when inquiring via e-mail, only after I got to the dealership. But nice try for that weak rebuttal. I love that they try to blame it on the customer, not passive aggressive at all..... On a side note, it's irrelevant if my trade in had excess miles. In theory, it would have been the OTD price of the car plus the X amount of the trade in. The issue at hand was that the OTD pricing was not honored and your dealership definitely pulled a bait and switch. "I hope this reply helps clear up any possible misunderstandings." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been going back and forth with the dealership, via Diane. We get to a final OTD (out the door price which includes tax, registration, etc..) price, see the attached photo of the email. Entire email thread is about 20 emails. Diane informs me that she won't be there on Saturday am so she hands me off to Dan. I'm assuming Dan is the GSM or SM (general sales manager or sales manager). I get there and Dan hands me over to Ahmed?ahmen? I forget his name but he was really nice as well. I tell him the otd that I received from Diane and he goes back to the sm or gsm and then tells me that price is not going to be offered. He informs me it costs X amount and that there is no way they can sell it at that price. Moral of the story, always get a price sheet before heading into the dealership. Or they will bait you in waste 3 hours of driving like I did. I highly do not recommend this dealership and their practice. I was in a bad situation with my 2015 GTI. I was on a work trip from MD and I was crossing the GW bridge in NY when the EPC light came on. The car seemed to be running on 2 cylinders. I was googling for answers and called 5 dealerships somewhat nearby. The short version is that none of the others either had time to look at it or cars for me to use. Gensinger has the time and a car for me to use. Long story shorter, Brian was the most pleasant, honest and easy going service guy that I ha e ever had the pleasure of working with and a dealership. He was honest and worked quickly to get me on the road. He ran the diagnostics and it showed several things that could be wrong. Welcome to the world of German engineering. He was going to replace the coil packs and plugs and then came back to me and suggested it may be the timing chain which is a known problem with these. After discussing the situation, we decided I could safely get the car to my hotel and try to get it to my dealer at home (which sucks) so I will find another repair shop. He didn't have to do that. He had me, stuck in a pinch but didn't make me regret it. Brian took time that he didn't really have to make my horrible day great, and for that I am thankful. He pounced on me with his insults without even letting me get a word in to explain. I will be taking my business elsewhere going forward. Very happy with the dealership, my car and ID4 it's supposed to have 272 miles per charge. My car is only charging to 220. Not what I intended to purchase I could have bought another vehicle with more mileage actually for less money to. I cannot say anything negative as of now because my experience has been good, the person I'm supposed to speak to doesn't get back till August 8. I can review my rating after I speak with her to see if anything can or will be resolved. Got my oil change today. I decided to check my oil level before leaving and it was short. Lower than the safe line a mechanic came out and I showed him so he immediately said he'll fill it up. After $75 being spent this was very disappointing. The reason I checked was because after last oil change 2 months later I was short about 3qts and my oil light came on. I can truly say every time I've been here the customer service was extremely pleasant. I hope this problem is addressed with the person responsible. I've finally found my go-to dealership in the area! Since I bought a new VW in 2013, I've been only taking it to VW dealerships for any services like oil changes or tune-ups. After going to Tri-County in Lyndhurst and Jack Daniels in Fair Lawn, I just wasn't 100% trustworthy of these dealerships. To have SO many negative reviews makes you wary. Not only does Gensinger have great reviews, but I really trusted my car here. The staff was nice, they have complimentary coffee and drinks and even offered us some sandwiches/cake they had from a party that day. So pleasant! I did wait a bit over an hour for an oil change which isn't fun, but it was a weeknight after work so I pretty much expected that. No complaints, great service. read more
