Back in April my husband went in for extractions. Insurance was verified and they told us our portion was $584.25. We were told they wouldn't schedule the extractions until payment was made, so we went ahead and made the payment, scheduled the appointment and had the extractions done. In our dealings with Dr. Vu, the billing staff, and the office girls, I would say nothing special as far as customer service. It was all, business, and pretty professional. Basically as expected. Then early June I receive our EOB and it stated patient responsibility is $474.00. I was a bit surprised since their figure was so exact. I called to ask about the over payment and was told as soon as they received payment from insurance they would issue us a credit back to our debit card. He said they normally call, but he would notate my call so they could just process the refund. It is now towards the end of July and I've still heard nothing from them and have no credit on my account. So today I call to inquire the status of the refund. First I'm told no one is available to help me but I can leave a voicemail. When I finally get to speak with some he basically says he has no idea when I'll receive credit. He told me he sees that they've been paid from insurance so he'll put a note on for them to process it ASAP. I ask if he knows how long that'll be. He said he doesn't know when they process it, but it's not daily. He then added that after it's processed it goes to corporate and he has no idea how long they take because it's out of their hands then. I don't mind expected customer service where no one goes above and beyond. I'm ok with that. BUT, I feel without these phone calls I never would have received a refund, and now it's taking forever, and they're passing the buck on Responsibility now. I look for EOBs now because my last dentist was over charging me every time we came in, for YEARS. Once I finally looked at my EOB and talked to them about it, I got an apology but they could only go back a year to refund me. At least they did it almost immediately. Even though there was nothing bad, or good, with the dental services, after this experience, just like with my previous dentist, I will not be going back., Received a call back from Louise today, one of the managers, asking for my card number so they could process the refund. I laughed then explained to her what I was told yesterday. She said it sounds like she has some training to do when she gets off the phone. She then went on to explain how they train their employees to always make the customer the focus. She even explained the entire refund process and how they were a bit behind. She was extremely pleasant, processed my refund immediately, and made me rethink my opinion of them. I may go back and give them another try thanks to the excellent customer service I received from Louise. read more

Overpriced insurance scammers with poor ethical practices. Scheduled me for 5 fillings at the end of the day, they rushed, it HURT, and now my teeth are super sensitive and it looks awful. The dentist told me during the procedure I didn't need all that work. Awful experience. read more

What a crap show. I had an appointment with them. I had three appointments I had to reschedule and they have gotten upset and texted me about how unprofessional I am and how I am now inactive in the clinic (whatever that means) and when I texted back that they seemed kind of unprofessional, whoever is on the other side started arguing with me. I am so happy I am not going here as I can only imagine how rude they'd be in person... Btw, I rescheduled my appointments at least 24 hours before my scheduled time. Our appointments have had to be rescheduled every. Single. Time. Always with day-of notice. Either because they accidentally double-booked or "didn't have enough assistants." Once I was called 10 minutes from my appointment, while I was making the commute there, to be informed of this. They also charged me full price for my x-rays and insisted I wasn't on the Smile Plan until we literally brought in the paperwork to show them. They had claimed I signed I was agreeing to pay the rates, but the rates on the sheet were literally the cheaper rates from the plan. Office staff is unprofessional and unqualified. Dr. Vu seems to be a thorough dentist, it's just a matter of ever being able to actually get in to see him. read more

My dentist wants me to have a biopsy on a growth on the inside of my cheek which is growing. I called GDVR three times today and asked if it could be covered by Medicare as I am poor, elderly, and have no dental insurance. My dentist had said to contact an oral surgeon and gave me the number of GDVR. I have called the Valley River office THREE TIMES today and spoke to a scheduler who didn't listen and kept asking if I want an appointment. I had asked to speak to someone in their office who could tell me if they handle a code for this procedure and under what circumstances and for how much it would cost. All three calls resulted in them transferring me to someone who could answer this question, but ALL THREE CALLS RESULTED IN A BUSY SIGNAL AND AN AUTOMATIC DISCONNECTION! Nobody called back. I have no answer and no way of getting one. The people with whom I spoke cannot be trusted to get an answer, let alone to give you one. I wouldn't trust this staff with guiding nursery school children to the lavatory on time, let alone with surgery. BEWARE! read more

Gentle Dental Valley River. LOL. Not even close. OMG it's so far from gentle it's stupid. I had severe pain in my tooth, and I did appreciate them getting me into an appointment. But it was one of the worst dental experiences of my life. It was damn near traumatizing. I had to get my muller pulled out. The lady just recklessly jabbed me in the gums multiple times. I could feel every mm of that syringe going into my gums and pumping fluid into my gums. I was in so much pain. The dentist just tore my gums up, she was literally chiseling my tooth out. What a shame that the lowest rating I could give Gentle Dental Valley River can't be less than one star. If they only had negative numbers(stars) that would give one such as myself more ability to rate their service, or lack of, with more honest objectivity. Well, I had a appointment scheduled with Gentle Dental Valley River scheduled a month ago and a half ago. As the situation with my tooth got worse while waiting for my appointment, my husband called back to keep them in the loop for the changes since the appointment was initially for a tooth that a huge filling fell out of and I was concerned about the integrity of the tooth, and breaking. He spoke two different people in the office twice as they called back the other day to confirm the appointment. Since the initial appointment, which we have been waiting for the last month and a half, my tooth broke and now I have a root hanging out. We have been to Gentle Dental before in Tehachapi California several years ago, and we were so hoping that this Gentle Dental was reputable, as we had the most unprofessional and dishonest service from Gentle Dental Tehachapi. I never went back! Not ten minutes ago, Gentle Dental of Valley River called, to tell us that my husbands insurance was not accepted by them. Mind you, that information on my husbands insurance was accepted when we made the appointment, and his insurance company referred us to Gentle Dental of Valley River. In the process of talking to the woman that called today, my husband attempted to explain to her that Cigna referred us to them, and that my husband has since spoken twice to other people in the office since we made the initially appointment. The woman on the phone basically implied that my husband was a liar. Facts, Cigna insurance referred us to them, the appointment with insurance information was given the them over a month and a half ago, Cigna insurance is what we used prior at Gentle Dental in Tehachapi California. Now, three days before the appointment, they called to tell us that our insurance was not acceptable. But, they have no issue at this point on me keeping my appointment and paying their non-insurance prices. We spoke to them just the other day when they called to confirm our appointment. Reading some of the other reviews here has only reinforced that possibly we dodged a bullet and this place seems to be completely unprofessional, dishonest and feels like a bait and switch. In closing, I must say it appears that Gentle Dental has a tradition that is live and well across state lines. So, now we search again for a dentist, and hopefully find one that does not do bait and switch. read more

I had a root canal, post and crown Dr. Vu did a fantastic job, totally painless. It's professional to the nines. Staff is super friendly and very helpful. The whole process went without a hitch. Dr Vu is a good dentist but gental dental only cares about getting as many people in and aout as possible without missing their lunch breaks as they can. I went there ,had a small boil on my gum, near my Tooth.Normally I visit the location of River Road Road,they had no time to help me after 20 plus years with Gentle Dental .So when I arrived the assistant took my Blood Pressure made me hold my Arm up in the Air and had no Idea how.I said dont worry,dont know why she eaven did this.She took many xrays on the one problem , kept saying well one more.When Dr.Wu vame in ,he checkt on the small infection and said ,there is nothing I can do.I asked for an Antibiotics he said no.I have newer in my 77 years beennot helped.They charged me $65 ,my Medicare should have paid that but they didn send in a claim,gave them my Card.Went back to my original location were I got Antibiotics and my Infection healed. read more

My family has used Gentle Dental Valley River for a few years now and I have never felt like I could totally trust them with both the work that they said needed to be done and the charges. If you need work done GET A 2ND OPINION! I was given a quote of $16,288 (with the smile plan) and I am getting the work done with a very reputable practice for $7,500. I was fortunate to find Dr. Vu, but unfortunately he is with the wrong dental group. My experience is overall very negative because they are clearly only interested in the money, not the patient. The offices are way overdue for a remodel, with deferred maintenance items in plain sight. The offices generally appear shopworn and are unsanitary in places, particularly the restroom and waiting areas. The finance section takes up a lot of area and has a lot of staff, and they have all these "easy credit" plans (at xtrmly hi rates). Staff constantly talks to each other instead of patient to the point of unprofessional. For several months, they kept a large over-reimbursement that I made that I only found out about when scheduling another appt. They refuse insurance-reimbursable services to any patient with an outstanding bill; they rope-a-doped me into a cleaning appt., only to tell me I had a balance due and by "their policy" couldn't provide service. Of course they kept my over-reimbursement and didn't tell me, but now have given me a demand for final payment on a bill for which I just became aware that my insurance provider took months to reject - and which is not even in my own legal name - or they'll turn it over to a collection agency. While threatening my credit rating. This, on 12/23/16...nice, huh? The kicker is that I am getting 3 implants at a cost of about 13,000, all cash on the barrelhead. I'm 62 now; I retired at 52. I'm independently wealthy and have absolutely never had any problem paying any invoice at any time. But, it's the attitude. They won't be getting my business, and I hope they don't get yours either. I have been going to gentle dental long before they took over. 10-15 years. I had the same dentist and hygienist the whole time. Until gentle dental took over. I have seen 3 hygienist in 2 years and my dentist also left last year. I am a strange person and love to get my teeth cleaned. I have had the worst cleaning in my life. My gums hurt for 2 weeks. I then found a new person. That only lasted 2 visits, only to be told she has now left. I was in on Monday. The girl was sweet, but I was there for 75 min. I have never spent more than 45 min getting my teeth cleaned. I did not see a face a recognized. And those I saw were so unkept, except one girl in reception. Comb your hair and take a little time before working with the public. I even saw someone without shoelaces. I think it's time for a new dentists office. read more

Well, I called 3 weeks ago, to schedule an appointment for my wisdom tooth, it needs to be removed. They could get me in that Friday, sounds great. They called back the day before, and said that time had to be changed. They only had earlier times, and I was working all day before that so it didn't work out. We ended up rescheduling for the following Friday. Three days before the following Friday, they called, and told me that the doctor had to reschedule, for the FOLLOWING Friday, because he would be working every other week. I was a little annoyed, but not feeling any pain in my mouth so I said that it was fine, and made and appointment for 3:20 the following Friday. Today, I get off work, and had a voicemail. "We will need to move your appointment up to 1:40." I don't get off work until 2:30, and live 30 minutes away from Eugene. At this point I'm pretty irritated. I call them back, explain why that won't work, and I am put on hold for 5 minutes. Than someone else picks up, and I repeat the same thing, and I'm put on hold. ANOTHER new person answers "Valley River Gentle Dental". I felt like I was on a loop. I told them to cancel my appointment. I waisted A LOT of time just trying to actually get an appointment. If you want to be seen sooner than a month out, find somewhere else. read more

We used to see Dr. Colby a number of years ago. Our insurance changed and we were sad to leave him. Our insurance recently changed again, and we were so excited to be back! The appointment was scheduled out 3 months, but to see Colby again- who cares! Took the afternoon off, Picked up my daughters from school, and headed over. When we arrived, they couldn't find us on th schedule. Then I was told that it was cancelled because they didn't get a verbal confirmation. Then they rattles off two numbers that were not ours, and our OLD address. When I made the appt. they updated all of our info over the phone. Then they tell me that they can reschedule us. For AUGUST!!! I was not a happy camper, and just left the office. Not a good experience at all. Disappointed. read more

Tried scheduling an appointment here months ago and it took several calls of being forwarded to person after person and having calls dropped with nobody trying to call back or being forwarded to voicemails that apparently don't get checked. When I finally got an appointment set up for a few months out (after about the 5th call), I thought I was all set. Fast forward to today, 2 days before my appointment - I received a call from them to confirm my appointment and they asked for my insurance information (which I definitely gave them when I scheduled the appointment, that was part of why I kept being transferred to different people during my original calls). Apparently the person I was scheduled with does not accept my insurance, so they said I would have to reschedule 11 months out. Wouldn't wish this service on my worst enemy. Can confirm other reviewers' reports that front office staff is rude and needs to be replaced. read more

After having a perminite retainer for 23 years it finally broke one afternoon. I called the office and they squeezed me in at 8 am the next morning to see the orthodontist. The front office staff was prompt and courteous. After some standard paperwork I was shown to the chair. I was greeted by the orthodaunst and we started to discuss what I was there for. I explained that I had a broken perminite retainer, and he asked if I wanted to have it reattached. I then told him that I would like to have it removed... I have asked every dentist I have been to for the last 15 years to remove it. Every single one had a different reason or excuse for why they wouldn't remove it. So I was completely shocked when with out any hesitation he said he would be more than happy to do what I wanted. When I laied back to start the work, I explained that I have anxiety about getting dental work done. He reassured me that he understood my fears and to let him know if I needed a break after we started work. He then took the time to tell me everything he was doing while he was doing it. This more than anything relieved my fears. I personally do not need any more orthodontic work, but I know where I'm taking my children when they do. read more

I have always had the recommended twice annual check-ups for cleaning and x-rays. I have no insurance and the dental office I went to for years became excessive in their fees compared to other offices. I left last year and had my first visit with Gentle Dental which went nicely. I scheduled by next visit 6 months in advance. Two days before my appointment in mid October 2017, I received a call from Gentle Dental cancelling my appointment due to my hygienist being un-available. I called to re-schedule and the soonest they could get me in was late December! They did offer an appointment that day but I already had plans and could not take the appointment. I called another dental office and made a new-patient appointment. They called and told me Gentle Dental wanted to speak to me. I called them and they wanted $15 to send my records to the new dental office I chose. I decided to proceed with the new office as a new patient even though initial x-rays and exam will cost more than had I paid $15 to Gentle Dental. That's okay though........bye bye G.D. ! I have since learned from a knowledgeable insider in the industry that G.D. is a corporate entity with several locations and lose customers on a regular basis as they do a volume practice and herd patients around like cattle. I have been trying to get a refund of my overpayment for 3 months. Three phone calls and one personal visit to the office. I was told in October that it would be "expedited" even though I was told a couple months earlier that it was in the process. It is now Dec 28, still no refund. I have no issue with the dentists or the assistants but the business office is another story. Also, when calling about this I left a voice message with the finance office and my call was not returned. Don't really know what to do next. I guess I will have to go there again try to speak with someone face-to-face. read more

From the front desk, the assistants, doctors to the scheduling/billing gals in the back. This is a great team. In Feb. of this year, I had been told that I should replace my old fillings by Dr. Rawlings at Gentl Dental. In the process of removing the filling, I was THEN told I needed a crown. When I returned for the crown Dr. Rawlings no longer worked there and Dr. Cho did the crown. He worked in my mouth like a jackhammer!! I felt traumatized!! Weeks later (and up until today), I experience pain in the area of the crown and complained and went back in for a "post-op" check. When I had the "post-op" check by a Dr. Vu, he informed me that I NOW needed a root canal. Understand that these three diagnosis for this one tooth cost me approx. $1200.00. Not only have I been told I need a root canal, but was also informed that since I have this "crown" that didn't work, I would have to go to an endondontist because it would be difficult to do the root canal since they have given me a crown. So, I've spent $1,200 (no dental insurance) and now have to find an endondontist who will charge me God knows how much to do a root canal. I cannot eat on the right side where the "crown" has been placed and it's time for a cleaning and I don't dare try to let any new dentist I find touch that area. I had a wonderful dentist for 40 years, Dr. Hull and I took care of my teeth for 40 years and when he retired I very foolishly (knowing I had good teeth) joined the Gentle Dental plan knowing that I'd only be doing cleanings. My 12 year old daughter was seen by Dr. Vu for a tooth extraction. Unfortunately she doesn't have the healthiest teeth due to genetics, despite constantly brushing and flossing. Anyway, while she back in the room Dr. Vu made the most outrageous comment to my daughter. He proceeded to tell her that "maybe next time your mom will get you into the dentist sooner, so that you don't have to keep getting your teeth pulled. At the rate your going you will not have any teeth left by the time your an adult." ?! I'm sorry, but this is the reason people have fears for going to the dentist in the first place. What makes it ok to think that you should and can judge anyone?! I totally understand that teeth our your passion, but this dentist needs to take into the consideration that people's situations are different, and you should NEVER disrespect people that are paying you for a service. Especially to a little girl, that doesn't understand. So thank you Dr. Vu for showing your true colors. If you wanted to say something, then you should have lectured me, and not have made a asinine, over the top rude comment to a kid about her mother. We will never step foot in those offices again. Truly disgusted, and highly recommend that you should never go to this office, unless you want to be judged, and ridiculed. read more
