We hired Ivan's Masonry for two jobs: driveway renovation and a new stairway with walkway. From onset it was a long journey for us figuring out what material we will be comfortable with. Ivan patiently consulted us on every available material: concrete, stamping, coloring, and many styles from different providers of concrete pavers. None really resonated with our vision. After a month of research we ended up selecting clay pavers for their traditional look and lasting quality. The problem was that no contractor in our area would even consider working with clay pavers. Initially Ivan also refused but with some prodding he actually agreed to install clay pavers and did an amazing job. The team would start consistently punctually at 7 am and worked full days. Ivan, the owner, would work on the job 100%, including operating the equipment and setting the pavers. The site was kept reasonably clean and the process was well organized. We love the results. Our house became the model for the street as a first house with pavers. Many people complimented on the improvements and expressed the desire to contract with Ivan's Masonry. The reason the concrete failed before was that there was no rebar. They installed rebar, and you could tell it was not going to fail again. Vicente, the man who finished it, was like an artist making sure everything was just so. They made the leading edge of the concrete 6 inches where heavy trucks could damage it, then used asphalt repair material to make a little lip so there would be less pressure on the edge. Above and beyond service. Mind you, this was not a giant repair. If I needed something large done, these are the people I would call.

He never once visited the job to verify and conduct quality control. Good thing he had dependable workers who took ownership of the job. Fast forward to when the job completed and a full payment has been made by me, I requested for a receipt and he's been unresponsive. He responded at first telling me he would send over a receipt but never followed through with his promise. Eventually, he completely started to ignore my calls and texts. He would be calling and texting me that he had a question or suggestion due to something we didn't think about at the time. The photos are actually 2 jobs. Job #1 - Backyard - turfed area & side dirt area. This was a HUGE TASK. The area was so un-leveled that we would have pools of water sitting there after a rainy day. It was IMMENSE to backfill the dirt and get everything setup for concrete/turf. These guys made quick work of it AND kept the area tidy after the end of each day. You rarely see that sort of attention and professionalism anymore. Job#2 - Front yard - new privacy plants & clean up After seeing the work Marcos did in the back, I didn't hesitate to start work in the front. It was about 2 or 3 weeks before the boss (wife) approved more funding for the front yard, she was impressed also. Tried to upload the pictures in BEFORE/DURING/AFTER order with Nest cam photos. He only mows the lawn and we have to beg and plead to trim bushes etc......for what we're paying it's just not worth it!!!!!!! I'm paying $100 per visit. just to mow the lawn. Today we were looking for new gardener and I was SHOCKED at all the services that come included in the PRICE! Recently, my family came to visit , the yard was NOTICEABLY poorly cared for . I WAS EMBARRASSED!!! Why? because they failed to mow or tend to the trees and scrubs! He likes, I guess, to come late in the evening so he can't see what he's working on..... it's getting later and later. He's dishonest ( I guess he doesn't realize that I know), his work is substandard and yet he wants to be paid for everything he does! He wrote me a note detailing all FIVE XTRA Things that he's done over a 2 year period! . I'd rather pay and get it done correctly than half done for FREE! If he knew he wasn't going to do a proper job because he wasn't getting paid....... He should have let me make that decision. Since he's NOT an honest man , I could guess at least some of what he wrote to me in response to this .... Is true.....but I've caught him in so many lies.... I know it's NOT. He won't answer texts or phone calls. So if I need something done or have a concern.....I can never get in contact.. UNLESS IT HAS TO DO WITH GETTING HIM PAID. He likes to remind me about that one time he cut down a bush but forget that he's being paid $100 per visit JUST TO MOW THE LAWN! At that time he said it was a " FAVOR" but now he's telling it's something he should have charged me for. My family said they'll be writing a review in the near future! I'm paying more than anyone on the street and getting HALF the service. By the way, he doesn't edge, fertilize or help solve problems that you have. But he can always problem solve when it's time to be paid!
