We went to see a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder (around 45,000 miles) that had been on the lot for a couple of months. When we arrived, it hadn't been washed, making it nearly impossible to assess stone chips or paint damage. Some scratches were addressed minimally, but spoiler alert: more chips were discovered once we got it home. Taylor, our salesman--nice enough, but armed with all the classic "stealership" lines. The Pathfinder was listed at $25,000. We asked for a reasonable $1,500 off; they countered with... $512. Yes, $512. Don't spend it all in one place. During negotiations for both the Pathfinder and our 2014 trade-in, I had all the numbers. Taylor called my methods "old school" but clearly felt uncomfortable with the accurate data I presented. He also claimed he couldn't disclose how much the dealership offered the previous owner--classic evasive maneuver. But we already knew the numbers. Then came the magic trick: the inflated Carfax "value estimate." Taylor insisted Geoff Penske's pricing was "aggressive but fair" and "value-added," claiming we were getting $1,643 below a recommended price. Cars.com said otherwise--we were saving seven dollars. The price of a Happy Meal at McDonalds. Trade-in talks were equally entertaining. Our well-kept 2014 Pathfinder was initially valued at $1,500. We countered, they offered $2,100, and within days it was online for $7,500--sold almost immediately. Taylor also nitpicked: minor scratches (thank you, Captain Obvious) and a "possible" TPMS sensor issue, despite tire pressure being checked before the 40-mile drive. The TPMS indicator was never activated on the dashboard. Classic tactic to undervalue the trade-in. And the 2022 Pathfinder had paint chips that should have lowered its price further. Victor, the so-called "Vice President" (actually General Manager), did not inspire confidence. He seemed experienced in lowballing and lacked respect for the customer. He didn't personally speak with us, leaving a decidedly cold impression. When we finally bought the Pathfinder (yes, for that $512 discount), the car was rushed through "detail." The inside windshield was dirty, door jambs neglected, and black trim smeared with shiny spray. For a car that had been sitting two months, this was sloppy at best. In short, this dealership is a masterclass in passive-aggressive friendliness, smoke-and-mirror pricing, and old-school tactics designed to make customers feel clueless. Unfortunately for them, we were not. Buyer beware: If you value honesty, integrity, and respect, look elsewhere. Bought a brand new vehicle from another dealer nearly two hours from home. Noticed an interior molding defect in a few days.Went to Penske for warranty. Told definitely a defect, we will take care of it, and set appointment. Three days later they say the won't do it without explanation except go to the purchasing dealer. Contact GM directly because they are local. After 3 weeks GM tells me Penske is 99% confident it's covered but won't take the risk of it not being covered. I have bought my vehicles from Geoff Penske my entire life, NEVER AGAIN! 2 weeks before I took my Terrain in for my yearly inspection, I replaced my windshield wipers. They called to tell me that my wipers needed to be replaced to pass inspection. Total BS & should be grand theft auto as they pull this every inspection. When my GMC needed a new engine I was devastated. The service team at GMC helped me so much with going through the warranty company and keeping me informed all along the way. Not only did they answer all of my questions thoroughly but they helped make the whole process run smoothly. They got me into a loaner vehicle. They replaced my engine in a timely fashion and also found another issue (and fixed it cost effectively) that could have potentially put myself and my child in danger. Bought used "certified" Encore and within less than a month my car was overheating sputtering oil light coming on I just made it home. What a disgrace. I have pleasantly surprised with the services and costs. Usually when you take your car in for service you wonder how high the bill be. Half of the time I have been shocked how low the bill has been, a number of times at no cost, they just tighten something or adjusted something. Never had that anywhere else before. I have been a customer for several years at Penske, GMC. Only repairs & buying parts, but yet a customer. I needed an emergency repair done to my 2009 Chevy truck and the lady that answered the phone and schedules the Service Department acted like she didn't care and could not wait to get off the phone. She noted that they were booked for a week out, no loaners available and shuttle service was only within a 10 mile radius. She acted like it was a hassle to be on the phone with me. This is the worst car dealership I have ever dealt with. The sales staff is very nice and helpful, as one would expect since they want to separate you from your money. Beware though because once they have your money they don't know you. The service department is a joke. They can't figure out how to fix the simplest problems with the car and when they try to mess up other things on the car. After several failed attempts to fix the car they get upset, not with the car, but with the customer and essentially tell you to find other remedies elsewhere. The funny part is that after being told this I did take the car to a different dealer and they fixed the problem in 15 minutes. Penske Buick is clearly a joke. read more
