I am an out of towner and was looking for a place to catch the Eagles game. Some friends told me about this bar so I gave it a shot. George & Walt's is in a great are and the place was very diverse. There were plenty of TVs airing all sorts of games and pool tables. The bar is cash only (set to change soon) with tons of drinks specials. The bartenders were friendly and quick to check in. The little kitchen serves great food, I know, because they ran out of French fries, tater tots! The place is a sports bar, and has this everywhere! They have a seating pit that makes you feel like you are watching the game at a friend's house . . . that is the vibe! They have a full bar that serves premium libations. It bugs when people call bars like this a "dive bar." It's not a dive bar. It's a neighborhood bar. It's clean, people are friendly and there are regulars a-plenty. There's a pool table, a great AMI juke box and drink prices are fair. Now, when I say "neighborhood bar," that's not always a great thing. I've been in some where the regulars are so possessive of their place that everyone else is driven out. George and Walt's isn't like that. It's the best kind of neighborhood bar. The bartender was awesome in suggesting drinks. I LOVE the fact that my Maker's Manhattan came in a nice martini glass rather than a damn Bell jar or rocks glass. Didn't have the food here but I hear others liking them. The ambience is wonderful. Brings me back from old times when we used to come here. The service is awesome as well. I was told they had vegan food but I didn't think I would want bar food so I ate beforehand. We went for College Basketball and the bartender was accommodating when we were figuring out where to sit to watch the game and when asked to turn up some volume.. They've got several TVs so different games can be watched.. The place has a divey vibe with regular bar prices.. I overheard someone tell another they had good food. Great bar if you're from the neighborhood. Stopped in for drinks and tater tots. Decent selection and good specials every night. Had a few pints. Was told to order food at a separate window. The bar doesn't take credit card but the food corner does. However ordered food and was told that I could sub tots for my fried on a sandwich. They upcharged me without telling me then came by and said they 86'd the tots earlier so offered me the original fries. Fries were real good but check afterwards still showed the upcharge for tots. An old Raider fan landed in Contra Costa 25 years ago. Of course Raider games are not televised here. Not many places to watch Raiders games. Today I decided to try visiting an Oakland sports bar to watch the game. George & Walts was the closest to the tunnel so I gave it a shot. The area feels like Berkeley. Street parking is somewhat available. Free on Sunday. There is a heat wave currently. It's hot inside. Summer is almost over; but replace the ceiling fans. They had multiple games on. No sound. The place is well used. The staff and patrons I spoke with were pleasant people. Had a couple hazy drafts and watched the Raiders loose. 49er fans were not too rude. The 510 fan smoking his cigar right outside the open window made the hot atmosphere a little more unpleasant. I'll be back when it's not so hot to watch a game. read more

Took a chance on a bar my friends and I had never been to before, only to find out that they are cash only. Poop. BUT! They have an ATM at the bar, tons of TVs, and drinks and drink specials that are more than fair. Including pint-sized cocktails at $10! They also have a grill that serves up different bar food and burgers/salads/sandwiches, and they take card there. There are two pool tables and an area near the back and bathrooms that is sort of a tv lounge area. Vibes are laid-back and you get a hometown kind of vibe in the bar.
