Sorry Hot Bagel but you finally lost me after 20+ years as a loyal customer. Until a couple years ago you were charging $1.00/bagel (the long time price). Then the price was increased to $1.25/ bagel. I didn't like the 25% price increase...but I went along with it. Now (as of early 2026)...the price of a bagel has been raised again to $1.50/bagel! This is just out of hand. Compared to 2-3 years ago...this is a 50% price increase. How would you like it if the price of a brand new car went up 50% in just 2 years...or the rent on an apartment went up 50% in just 2 years. A 50% price increase in just 2 years is insane!!! First time here and was a bit thrown off that by the fact they don't serve sandwiches but I ended up getting a cinnamon raisin bagel toasted with butter and scallion cream cheese and I ate it so fast I forgot to take a pic! It was absolutely delicious, will definitely be going back. read more

The storefront from the outside looks rather nondescript, and the inside looks just as much so. This is truly a bagel shop, without all the fuss. My bagel came out warm and fluffy, although for an everything bagel, I'd have wanted a bit more "everything" on it. I've never entirely gotten the intense love that some have for bagels; in my opinion, they're usually pretty filling, but about as exciting as eating excelsior. Then again, maybe it's me--- I've never quite gotten the love of bread either (with the exception of Irish soda bread, which I love). Bread is filler for those portions of my stomach not being filled with meat and potatoes, or lasagna and sausage, or pot roast and mac'n'cheese, or fried chicken and cole slaw, or...whatever. Which is not to say that I won't scarf down some bagels, with alacrity, when hungry. And I can't really think of any I've had that are any better than these. My birth mother lived in Fair Lawn for a long time, and was always a regular patron here. This last Thanksgiving (or, more accurately, the Friday after Thanksgiving), we were traveling up to Connecticut to visit relatives, and she made sure to make a stop here to purchase some bagels, as she usually does, before starting on our journey north. The store is located in a comparatively small mini-mall and parking is very tight (in fact, if memory serves me right, there are signs posted telling patrons that they can't park for more than 15 minutes). There's usually a line inside the small front space of the store, but in my experience, it moves pretty quickly. There are a variety of fresh bagels on display, and standing in the front by the cash register, you can look towards the back and see them being made. My birth mother ordered a variety, and I asked for a regular bagel, with butter (there are other toppings, like cream cheese, available). Me being me, I supplemented that with a large Italian black-and-white cookie, and a container of orange juice (there's a rack with potato chips, cheese doodles, etc., alongside the cash register; on the other side of the store are the beverages). It filled the gap nicely between breakfast and the turkey and stuffing that I was anticipating in a few hours. It was a large bagel, surprisingly flavorful, and fresh. Service was friendly, and efficient. Whether one was ordering a quantity of bagels, like my birth mother, or a single bagel, like me-- the line moved briskly along. My relatives in Connecticut, bagel lovers all, were very happy and eager to receive the bag of them that my birth mother presented on our arrival there. They were polite about the bottle of wine I presented, but the enthusiasm level was much less pronounced. Which means the wine was very mediocre, or the bagels were very good. Given the reaction of my Connecticut relatives, it can't help but be pretty obvious, even to an ambivalent bagel eater like myself, that they're very, very good bagels. read more

A fresh everything bagel with veggie cream cheese.. Best way to start my day! Which is why I like coming to this place. However I do not appreciate the fact that I get charged for toasting my bagel? Ridiculous. It only happens when the lady cashier is taking care of me, but when the guy is working he doesn't. I don't mind paying a little more for a fresh bagel but to toast it ? Sounds extremely silly. It's a very small establishment. No place to sit & eat. It's definitely a pick up & go bagel place. They have a shared parking lot so most likely you'll always find a parking spot. Inside they have an ATM machine, this place is cash only. They also have various juices & chips. As the quest for the best bagel continues..this place fell short in many aspects. Let's start with the good, I got a Taylor ham, egg and cheese with extra meat and it was pretty good. The bagels not that great, average at best, I usually eat them the next couple of days when I get a dozen and I just kind of let these expire and was unenthusiastic to eat them after the initial breakfast. We also had an egg platter that had scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries..this was the low light of the order..eggs were meh, bacon was soggy and not good, home fries were greasy and not much flavor. I do this to myself trying new places and I would grab a TEC on the go if it were the only place available but it's not and I probably won't be back. read more

Did not have a good experience at this establishment. Not quite sure how 2 mini bagels with scallion cream cheese an everything bagel with cream cheese and 1 orange juice comes out to $12.25 when the guy in front of me got 1 dozen bagels for $11. Oh I know how, your employee doesn't know your menu or pricing. Maybe Saturday morning at 8am isn't the best time to "train". It was evident she was very new and very flustered. Even the other gentleman behind the counter seemed frustrated with her and he owns the business. She couldn't explain the pricing as to why my order was so expensive and unfortunately I was running late to work so I paid the ungodly price and walked out. Don't exactly understand why this place is called "hot" bagels though, especially since bagels are unable to be toasted. Still going strong after all these years. They have every sort of bagel, including less common varieties like whole-wheat everything. Their onion bagels are generously coated all over, but alas their garlic bagels usually are not, with just a part of the top of the bagel coated (perhaps my only complaint, here--if I could I'd have the bagel encrusted in garlic and garlic baked into the dough as well.) The bagels are always coming out fresh from the oven, and service is usually very fast. But when I come I actually hope there's a bit of a line, so I have a time watch the owner do his baking. It's worth waiting for a new batch that's so hot it's actually steaming. While there is some good competition in the New York/New Jersey area, I always come back to the place that's in my backyard. First of all this shop sells kosher bagels with dairy spreads. It says so on a wall sign hanging behind the front counter. So, a review or photo about pork products is just wrong. Including the modern variations, which I enjoy, the bagels here are as close to old school style in crust, texture and taste. The crust is a nice brown color with a chew and crunch when you bite in to it. Inside texture also has nice density and flavor. Toppings could be a bit more generous, but the overall Bagel flavor makes up for it. Wish it were a bit closer to home. read more

This is the best goddamn bagel I've ever eaten and I'll tell you why: it tastes better plain than bagels do with cream cheese or butter on them. Perhaps years living in the deli-bare Pacific Northwest have just left me rabidly frothing at the mouth for even a passable bagel, but these guys pretty much are the best in an extended concept of town and worth a visit on my infrequent trips to my land of origin. Bare bones, eschewing even a proper name or a distinguishing brand, they sport a bagel oven, sweltering hot in the place if you go in the mornings indicating properly made bagels, and I think maybe they might have cream cheese - but you seriously don't even need it to enjoy their range from the classic plain and raisin to the more exotic varieties of poppy, garlic, and the monstrous combination known as the "everything" bagel. The only practical way this place could be better is if they delivered [for free] or they gave the bagels away, which they pretty much already do at 75 cents (tax included) per bagel, cheaper if you buy in bulk. My only regret is that I didn't appreciate them more when they were a 5 minute drive as opposed to a 5 hour flight away and I am reduced to the paling substitute of bagel-shaped bread for a temporary starch fix. read more

The best bagels anywhere. This is a very special bagel place. Most bagel joints in NJ have a case full of salads, meats, etc. This is a much simpler bagel place - bagels, spreads, coffee. But amazing bagels! I'm actually surprised to see that someone got an egg sandwich here, since I wasn't aware they made them... I'll have to go back to try one! They're open every day at 6 am, and are open long enough that you can pick up breakfast for dinner if you're so inclined (until 6 most days, 4 on Sundays). They've also been around forever, and the quality never wanes. Cash only. In my opinion, this is what heaven smells like. UPDATE: THEY DO NOT have egg sandwiches here or turkey or anything like that.
