Once I do I'll see if I can post my more…read morerecent one.] I'll start with that I did a fair bit of research before choosing a surgeon and Dr. Jamaris kept and keeps coming up as pretty much the best in the area. He is and you'll see in the following some of what he's like, a doctor who specializes in neurosurgery. I'd been putting up with devastating pain for years but once I got full health coverage people pushed me to go to a doctor. He watched me walk across the room, said "sciatica", and gave me a list of doctors. I researched all of them and not only was Jamaris the best on the list, he's one of the best overall. (See his reviews elsewhere.) At first I was put off by his manner because I start out chatting to get to know someone. Dr. Jamaris doesn't chat, he cuts to the chase and starts learning everything so he can help you. So he's very direct. The one downside is that he'll cut you off and go on to the next question once he has an answer. It's data collection, once he has the data his warmth and deep care for his patients comes through. He explains everything very clearly - if you look even slightly puzzled he backtracks. He walks through the options from least intercession to "I wouldn't recommend it to my sister". His other common phrase is "I want to be your hero", disconcerting but it sums up a great deal. He wants everything to go so well for you you walk out with stars in your eyes. That requires being very, very good at what you do. Not one to rest on his laurels he stays on top of the field to continue being very, very good at what he does. Me? Turns out that I had 2 1/2 herniated discs. When shots didn't work he explained the surgery, that he wasn't going to fix everything ("I wouldn't recommend it to my sister"), and so obviously knowledgeable I wasn't concerned about someone using a scalpel that close to my spine. Once it was done I walked - walked! - out about an hour later. And yes, he has a sense of humor: I don't remember my obscure joke during the followup but he got it and was immediately laughing. Some years later I was in a panic because I was in pain and about to leave the country. He squeezed in an appointment and somehow that was all I needed, that he was there, and once the panic was gone so was the pain. About a month ago the pain came back so I went to see him; he prescribed a course of steroids and cheerfully badgered me about doing my exercises. He also noticed the drastic change in me: I'd finally found a treatment to cure my depression. I called him today because the steroids had stopped working. He pulled facts out of the jumble of what I was saying, understood that because I was wrapping up the psychological soon this had to be fast-tracked. He doesn't do shots or surgery anymore (his medical insurance finally went too high) but knew the best person to send me to and that when we got off the phone he'd send a note telling him that this needed to be done as soon as possible. He remains the best. As a neurosurgeon and as the person you want to be your neurosurgeon.

Dr Jamaris is an "acquired taste". At first, he comes off as being very abrupt and you may be…read moreinclined to think he's not listening to you. But in reality, he's listened to everything you've said and is just weeding through what's irrelevant to get to the point of fixing the problem. He can seem a bit rushed but will take the time to make sure you understand the situation and your options. If you're looking for a doctor to be your best friend or just tell you what you want to hear, he's not your guy. But if you want one who'll give you an honest assessment and professional advice, this is the doctor to see. The only reason I didn't give him 5 stars is because of the location. He's in an old medical building in Glen Burnie, not the most welcoming place. It's definitely no-frills and the neighborhood is a little sketchy. But if you can get past the appearances, you'll find an excellent doctor.

Dr. Ross operates an integrative arm of his Crossroads practice, and his approach to health is in lockstep with mine: supplements and lifestyle where possible, and conventional treatments when needed. He is also an amazing physician who truly wants to know how his patient is doing and takes the time to talk with you. I trust him completely! He is focused on older patients and has an "Aging Gracefully" program. He also recommends and provides various alternative modalities. When I was going through a crisis last year, one of his assistants taught me a new type of meditation and neurofeedback practice that had an immediate impact.

At my age, there's a fair amount of stress visiting a doctor for the first time so I was a bit anxious because I know some drs. will rush through the visit, not giving enough time to get the full picture of my medical needs. Dr. Diener sat with me for at least 30 minutes and asked all the right questions. I had a short list of things that I definitely wanted to make sure I discussed with the doctor, and I never needed to refer to that list because he hit on everything without my prompting. Let me be clear that Dr. Ochaney wasn't really the problem -- although his bedside manner was lacking. The issue was his staff. After twice explaining my symptoms and trying to get an appointment, I was repeatedly directed to the ER. The second time, his staff suggested my symptoms were life-threatening and I felt obligated to go to the ER. That visit alone cost me more than $1,000 -- despite my request to simply move my appointment up sooner. Again, this is effectively a customer service issue and not necessarily a problem with Dr. Ochaney. Nevertheless, I'd recommend you skip this doctor and find someone in Columbia or Annapolis if possible.

Dr Kurnot is a very highly rated urologic surgeon by Checkbook.org. Everything went very smoothly. NO surprises. He's a straight shooter -knows TURP's like the back of his hand. I wanted a TURP because they last the longest. I heard about him from another guy that had him do a TURP some years ago who was also quite satisfied. Now my BPH problem and symptoms are COMPLETELY CURED and the only side effect is retro-ejaculation that the doc told me to expect. It's is not a big deal at all unless you still want to have children. In fact, I like it better this way. (And so does my lady friend :)
