Chili Cheese Fries

George's Burger Stand is one of the best small business burgers ever. It's been around since forever and it shows why. They have dine-in area where you can look on Cesar Chavez Ave while chowing down your food. Only downside about George's Burger Stand is the limited parking areas. Literally only a couple spots or the street curb. Food: I love their Chili Cheese Fries and Burgers. Both tasted great and I love how they add onions to add an extra kick to it. One of the best burger spots in Los Angeles!

Pastrami Burger $12.99

What I Ordered: -Pastrami Burger $12.99 I've passed by George's Burger Stand on Cesar E Chavez Ave many times and saw the George's sign, which is so iconic. I've always been curious about the food. I always order food that's a part of a restaurant's name. Coming to George's, I knew I had to order a burger of some kind. I asked the gentleman behind the counter about what I should order and he immediately said without hesitation, the Pastrami Burger. I was instantly sold! I didn't arrive on an empty stomach as I ate some food at Guisado's beforehand. When in Rome! Speaking of Guisado's, I read online that the same family that owns Guisado's also owns George's Burger Stand. I knew going in that it (George's) would be good, but I didn't know how good it would really be. I love burgers and pastrami! For me, that's a winning combination! The burger was so delicious and cooked to perfection. The pastrami was good pastrami as well. I really didn't expect the pastrami from a burger joint to have such good pastrami. Since, I ate previously I skipped the fries and other dishes. I will definitely be back soon to get another Pastrami Burger and try some of those made to order and beer battered Onion Rings.

Western burger + small order onion rings

I found George's Burger Stand after accidentally finding it on the YouTube channel from the former Worth It guys Andrew, Steven, and Adam. (They have since launched a new channel after the Buzzfeed series.) At any rate I was dying for something different and the onion rings at George's Burger Stand looked SO GOOD that I had to run out and try it for myself. Upon arriving, I quickly decided that I wanted a Western Burger (bacon, 1 onion ring and BBQ sauce), a small order of onion rings and a Sprite. The food took a little bit of time, but that's ok because you know it's freshly made. There's a nice covered patio where you can eat your food, and if you are a solo PLEASE do yourself a favor and get the small order of onion rings. Any larger and you won't be able to finish it. The burger is pretty delicious and not drowning in sauce, which I like. I had to ask for a side of ranch, since ranch and onion rings go so well together. The onion rings are DELICIOUS and so different from the breaded kind you get from the frozen food section of the grocery store. These are made out of a beer batter, and CRISP. The coating doesn't fall apart like all of the other onion rings you have tried. It's crisp and you can bite it, like an apple. My meal was $24, but definitely try this place you haven't!!

Georges Burger French Fries

One of my personal favorites. This is like a cross between Tams and In N Out. The meat is perfectly seasoned and grilled. The cheese is thick and melty and not too many condiments. The fries are also perfection fried to a golden brown. It's one of the old school California burgers I've joints that has its own flavor. Service is great and there's a few benches to eat. It's pricier than other spots but it's definitely worth the experience.

Yelp led us to George's for a late lunch yesterday. What a fantastic adventure! Walk up window service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was spotlessly clean inside and had the cutest outside seating area. We had pastrami burgers, George's burger, fries, onion rings, Cherry Coke, and a chocolate shake. Food was quickly made to order. The plentiful pastrami's peppery seasoning was the righteous flavor punch we were craving. George's cheeseburger is a classic, 1950's style cheeseburger with fresh, flavorful veggies. Fries were crispy, tender and came with a zingy fry sauce and spicy ketchup. Don't sleep on the pillowy onion rings and their Ranch-meets-Tzatziki sauce. The hand made chocolate shake with mounds of whip cream was of an ice cream shop quality. As mentioned in other reviews, George's cherry Coke isn't the syrupy mass produce variety. Instead, George's cherry Coke is a subtle creation that dances with the cherry flavor.

Hubby was craving for burgers and he said that Yelp suggested this as one of the burger places he should check out. Photos and reviews show that they're highly rated; so of course, we had to come and check it out. If in & out and Tommy's got together, George's would be their love child. Per my son, they're masters of burgers and chili cheese. My son ordered their chili cheeseburger and we got an XL chili cheese fries. The kids LOVED it! I got a cheeseburger with over easy eggs on top. WINNING!!! Overall, great burger and fries! This place would be great for late night munchies unfortunately they're only open til 9pm. Regardless, we would definitely come again!!

Out of all the mom and pops burger stands. This has to be one of the bests. Better tasting beef burgers and hand craft quality. Not another run of the mill frozen patty establishment. Not to mention the excellent customer service I received . It also have that old school hamburger stand vibe like back in the day. The only thing I don't like was the surrounding areas. The limited or no parking. I would recommend phoning ahead and just picking up. I parked at the bank cause that's all I could find. But I was t there for long. I decide to take my food to go instead of eating there. I also got some tater tots and onion rings. Both really good. Definitely one of my top 10 burgers now. Sorry no food pics I got home and snuffed that burger like I haven't eaten in days.

We needed a good greasy meal and found this burger joint. The service was great! We ordered 2 combos and it was close to $40. The cheeseburgers were well seasoned. I was missing thr juice from the burger as the bun and the burger were a little dry but still very good! The fries were well done, crispy and crunchy on the outside and potatoey on the inside. The onion rings were beer battered and a bit oily but you could tell they were hand battered and made to order. Delish! The chocolate shake hit the spot and made me feel like a kid again. We didn't eat here but took our food to go.

Ulew started in 2023 as a pop-up on the corner of Olympic & Soto selling natural juices. Now they have a café where they also serve Guatemalan coffee, pastries, and traditional & creative food options. The entrance is a bit tricky. Go through the doorway by the flower shop and proceed down the hallway. You place your order off to the right and on the left of the hall is the dining area. The lounge is warm & welcoming. It feels and looks like you are in someone's living room. The walls are lined with artwork by local artists, which are for sale, and there are even books & board games for your entertainment. Our order consisted of Café de Olla, Café Del Dia, Latte De La Barrio, and a Jalapeño Cream Cheese Croissant. My Café de Olla was perfect. The first sip was a delight on the palate. I could taste the notes of spices and a hint of orange. The other two beverages were just as good. The bold, richness of the coffee stood out on the Café Del Dia, and the Latte De La Barrio was delicious. I also liked the traditional clay mugs in which they were served. (Large orders are served in a to-go cup.) The Jalapeño Cream Cheese Croissant was also exceptionally good. The croissant was flaky & fluffy with a generous amount of cream cheese filling and jalapeño slices. In addition to the locals, about 10 police officers came in for breakfast. A true testament to how good this place is. I must mention that the staff are incredibly friendly here. The lady at the register, the man who brought us our order and kept checking on us, and the guy who bussed our table. Not only do they care about serving quality food & drink but they also care about their customers' overall experience. *Street parking.

So it's quite the coup that I finally made it on over to the Heights DABS! A slice of that 18 inch pie is on the brain today as I skip up the mini-staircase into the joint. Having just come from another not-to-be-named Pizza spot in the DTLA to NELA corridor, my hangdog face belies my energetic hoppin-pep-in-the-step into Heights, shaking off a droopy and disappointingly dry slice amidst the brain-bleeding profanity laced hate-punk screaming over that joint's speakers as I sized up the Margherita I always use as an avatar to benchmark how we dooooin' in the pizza quality and taste department no matter where I go. I confess I've been captured and SPOILED by love affairs with Greek Pizza in Boston, Deep Dish in Chicago, NYC greezy gooey goodness at 3am, and of course the ultimate seduction of sublime simplicity of the Neapolitan Pizzas of Napoli. Yes, I am a sucker for the traditional brick oven Margheritas and Bufalinas of Italia, just that simple barometer of OG greatness, minimalistic bliss. Less than 5 bucks and 10 min later, I'm ambling down said teeny stairs with a large warm white cardboard box that seems far too large for a mere SLICE. Have they made a packaging error? I was expecting a small thin wilty Dixie plate! These days, we don't wanna waste cardboard, do we? Driving off, I contemplate a spot to pull over along the Arroyo Seco to enjoy my dining behind the wheel. I just can't hold in my wondering, patience is definitely NOT a virtue when curiosity is just killing this Jazz Cat. A quick stop at a red light later, I can't hold it in any longer. FLIP. UP. THAT. LID! Daaaaaaammmnnnn! That is one MONSTROUS slice, as I slyly smile in astonishment! But my sly smile slowly segues to sadness, then semi-panicked confusion, disorientation, even! For THIS is not the Margherita one familiarly recognizes as the artistic minimalistic masterpiece a proper Neapolitan Margherita MUST BE! I am starting to get anxious, angsty, and now a bit ANGRY! what a fool I was! Instead I am misled into chow down mode to consume a Godzilla-sized molten mess of mossy dry basil haphazardly strewn about to and fro across the pie, resembling katsuo bonito flakes dancing around in the disarray of their differential dehydration! Inexplicably, jagged rows of somewhat square Roma tomatoes are lined up in lazy formations like a disorganized military company. What's more, the gooey globs of mozzarella are NOT expertly anchored down to the bed of cheese below, supposed to cling to the pie while providing just enough protruding relief like an old globe map with a mountain range rising above the horizon. Nope, they are instead here and there and almost everywhere, seemingly untethered to the matrix of cheese below, chaotically floating around like slightly rectangular glops of pale possible goodness?!!? JT, hold it together, you must attack this mess while it's still hot. Beep Beep! THE LIGHT HAS TURNED GREEN MANY SECONDS AGO! Get thee to the Arroyo! Minutes later, I'm at my perch. I bite into the unruly beast. I am pleasantly greeted by a most satisfying CRUNCH! Then a chewy tug-tremendous! Then the mass of basil flakiness flying through my mouth and down the hatch, chased by those deeeelish misshapen untethered white cubes o' cheesiness charging down my throat aside tons of tumbling tomatoes! It's an absolute avalanche of WOW! It's like there's a party in my mouth, and the most unlikely heroes showed up and showed out! Let's add the Unconventional Neapolitanical Pizzas of Lincoln Heights to the Lovefest List! Heights DABS, you've made my day. On to meet up with long lost friends converging in HP from nearby points dearly loved, I'm feelin' GRRRREEEEAT! DONE.

Sandwich was massive, however, it was mostly lettuce. Didn't notice from the pictures that the sandwiches aren't very balanced between meats and veggies. It's my personal preference for some more balance or flavor in a sandwich, peppers/onions/seasonings. Honestly, Jersey Mike's seasons their veggies better. I will say the bread at this deli was a notch above Jersey Mike's which is definitely a plus as good bread can make or break a sandwich. Mozzarella sticks were great, although they were normal sticks nothing out of the ordinary but I've definitely had worse sticks (looking at you Prince St Pizza...) so I'd recommend them if fried cheese is your jam! Service counter young lady was nice, she was quick and helpful with her suggestions. Small store, kind of looks like a convenience store and then the deli counter is on the right of the entrance and cashier is in the back. Easy ordering process. Parking is in the back, limited spaces. No inside seating available from what I saw, just counter to order and that's it. Grab and go type of spot for sure. Place was OK - if I lived closer, I would think it's an ok spot to come more often but I would not go out of my way to come.
