I ordered the lunch combo as on yelp it was about $13-14...but it turns out it's either wrong or since it's a year ago the price changed. I ended up paying about $18 for a pastrami sandwich large that came with a side (macaroni) and a fountain drink. The machine was broke so I took a can. I ordered additionally a soup (chicken noodle was soup of the day), and I was quite careful carrying it, but the leak of soup caused the whole bag to rip and soup to fall out. The container was wrapped with plastic wrap but should've wrapped the whole thing instead of just the top as that is where I assume it was leaking into the bag. My soup was all gone and the meat n veggies was the only thing I could salvage to eat. The sandwich was good. But if I knew the actual price than the picture I saw on yelp, I may have changed my mind to get lunch elsewhere as I was only planning to spend about $20 instead of what I spend $27. I took out so I dunno about the ambiance, but it's a normal delivery place. The guy there, assuming he was the owner, was nice. He did inform me if I ordered the soup and sandwich, even tho the sandwich would have been regular, it would have been better. But I said on the phone it was my first time..I said on the phone that I wanted regular, but it seemed pastrami was a premium meat. I also said I wanted a soup to replace the side if that was possible... I didn't clarify but said I worked nearby so I'll be there quick to explain. But the large sandwich was already made so.. I took a NEW updated menu with me so if my work people wanna know the exact prices n not by yelpnpictures that were outdated. Thx for the food. Update...found mold on my bread...never coming again. Been looking for a mom-and-pop deli nearby since we moved to University Hills. I happen to notice Tony's while I was driving home. While the restaurant itself hasn't aged very gracefully, the place is clean and the sandwiches here are always fresh and delicious, most notably their famed Mexican Tuna. What is Mexican Tuna, you ask? It's like tuna salad with actual flavor, more specifically jalapeño and cilantro (I hope you're not one of "those" people). A generous portion is piled into a warm, toasted roll, and since it's all chopped up together, every bite is just as delicious as the first. As a pescatarian, I can only comment on so many sandwiches here. But you should definitely give that Mexican Tuna sandwich a try. It's not super spicy. Just has a little kick. And even the extra pickle I had them add was chopped up, so you get pickle in every bite. One more thing: Parking here is pretty easy, but I accidentally turned too soon and parked next door. That's probably fine, if your order is to go, but if you're planning on staying, I recommend using Tony's actual lot. When I went back to my car, the other lot was filling up fast. Stopped by here on 7/24/24 at around 1pm to have a quick bite with an old college mate and he had pre-ordered a sub sandwich for me ahead of time while he pre-ordered some type of pasta dish. I've always known that this place existed on the outskirts of Lincoln Heights but because way the heck out here on the side of the railroad tracks, I've just never really bothered with stopping by since there's already a Subway near me on Broadway and on top of that, there's also the Lincoln Heights Deli & Bottle shop that also serves sub sandwiches and a limited selection of pizza and pasta. Tony's is more of a dedicated sub sandwich spot with a limited selection of pasta and salads. I don't believe they have pizza, if memory serves me correctly. Ambiance. It's a really small shop with limited seating. Basic, no frills type of spot where takeout is the primary business, I believe. It must be stressed here that if you're planning on eating in--they have no AC inside. Just a couple of fans to keep the air circulating and the front door propped wide open so be forewarned especially on a humid day, it's pretty hot inside even with good ventilation. Service. Can't speak much here since my college mate ordered for me but I would presume at least friendly service since he visits regularly. I'm not too sure if they take credit cards as I didn't pay but I would presume that they do. Food. I ordered the Tony Sub special. I think it tasted fine but nothing to really write home about. I kind of felt like the sandwich was more bread and sauce than it was meat and veggies. It doesn't bother me that much since it tasted as it should but I'd imagine it would bother some folks when they open up their wrapped sandwich and notice the disproportionate size of bread-to-meat & veggies ratio that's plainly obvious to me. Parking. It's a small lot that gets shared with the donut shop and Roong Fah Thai restaurant. I'd suggest just parking at the King Torta next door, if nothing else. All in all, if you can deal with the humid, hot air inside when the day is also hot and humid, it's bearable--just by a slight margin but otherwise, I'd recommend taking your sandwich to go and eat at some spot with more cooler air ventilation. Or just eat outside--but sadly, there were no outdoor seating, to my knowledge. For the novelty, give this a shot but honestly, for what you're paying, you may as well just drive a little further and get the subs at the Lincoln's Deli and Bottle shop on Broadway. read more

Sometimes you're in the mood for a good sandwich that you don't want to make or spend a lot on, and that's when places like Tony's Subs & Salads step in. I knew I wanted something with pickles and salty meat, so I opted for the 6" prosciutto and substituted olive oil and vinegar for the mayo and mustard that come on all sandwiches. I like that Tony's offers various items for sides, so I chose the lunch combo so that I could try the macaroni salad. The bread was soft and fresh, and the ratio of ingredients was good. Sometimes prosciutto sandwiches have either too much or too little meat, but this one was just right. Some of you may be thinking, "it's not possible for a sandwich to have too much meat," but unless you've had a heaping prosciutto sandwich, you wouldn't understand. The macaroni salad was good, too. Nothing I tasted had any flavor in particular that stood out, so this was a nice, comfortable meal that I enjoyed the certainty of after a week of trying pretty mediocre food at other places in El Sereno. Lastly I want to add that the employee I dealt with was probably the owner, who was super nice and made my roommate's food to order. She ordered the chicken Alfredo, and he said he had to make the noodles fresh, otherwise it wouldn't taste good if it sat in the fridge all day. It wasn't done specially for me, but it was nice to know the food is fresh and that they will make it to order if it isn't fresh because they care about the quality of their food. First timer at Tony's and it was by far the best!! Small little hole in the wall with plenty of parking in the back lot /street parking. I had a pastrami Sub with everything on it, I also tried some of the Lasagna and all I can say is wow! Everything is delicious here. I usually use Yelp to warn people about bad businesses but this place was 10/10. My boyfriend and I came in because we were craving a good sandwich and Tony's did NOT disappoint. Their sandwiches were big and full. My boyfriend got the steak sandwich and I got the Italian sub and they did not skimp on the meat or the fixings. Super quaint little business on Valley that is affordable and quick for a sub or any other snack. I decided to come after work to grab a bite. I ordered the Tony's sub and it was ready in about 5 minutes. Super fresh and tasty, a healthy serving of veges in the sub and meat. The bread is a little soft (and big), but good nonetheless. The location is great for anyone in El Sereno/University Hills, or next to the Hospital/Keck Center. I highly recommend to check this place out. Mexican Tuna sandwich is my favorite sandwich around ! You should note that I don't even like tuna and I love this sandwich. I have no nostalgic ties to this sandwich shop so I have no bias here their sandwiches are just that good. They have a wide selection of chips and drinks, ideal for a sandwich shop. The staff is always so kind and though everything is made to order they turn things around quickly. The establishment is older but it is very clean and well kept. Great meat cuts, just the right amount of condiments , and the potato salad was great too. Awesome owner and he happily recommended 3 other sandwiches for next time. I even got leftovers for later. And there are some good places in my area of LA...again, surprisingly. I didn't expect much from this place but the previous reviews were good and it was on our to the beach, so it was worth a try. We loved our sandwiches. The bread was very fresh and good and the sandwiches were just all around well done and good. It was lunch time and I was in the area. There isn't much in the area Especially if you want something heathy. I stopped by Tony's subs and got a turkey and ham sub and a side of potato salad. The people who work there are very nice people. The tables were all dirty, so I was about to clean it and they came and said No way, we will clean it for you. They wiped down the table. I got My potato salad and my sandwich fairly quick. The sandwich is really good, you can tell the ingredients are fresh, I believe even the bread is made fresh. Potato salad was really good too! The only thing that I wasn't crazy about was that the bread was a little too um... Bready lol. It was too thick of bread for what was inside the sandwich. Otherwise everything was great!
