This review is mainly for the burritos here. In my humble opinion, I believe it's The Best burrito in all of Lincoln Heights! My late great father would take us here back in the day and they never disappoint. They're very flavorful and packed with meat. I bring my kids here from Torrance anytime we in The Heights and want a bomb burrito. I highly recommend this spot for burritos and I'm sure everything they sell here will be bomb. We picked up two Grande Breakfast Burritos and the smell in the car was so heavenly. As you can see from my photo of a half-eaten burrito, we tore into them immediately! Beyond the food, the service was top-tier. We got our order incredibly fast and the lady at the drive-thru window was absolutely lovely. She had the best "mom energy" and made us feel so taken care of. The burrito itself was incredibly flavorful, but the red sauce is the absolute star of the show. It has that perfect balance of deep, rich flavor and a serious kick. It is the kind of spice that keeps you coming back for more even while your lips are burning and your nose is running. I have been a long time customer of Vhanos especially the one near USC. When I was a student, it consisted of meals at least twice a week. At the time it was one of the places always open in the University village area. The food is Mexican American so it is a little different from the Mexican tacos. Some of the items have lettuce in it for example. The tacos are definitely packed with the protein of your choice. There is so much that it actually spills out of the tacos. The tortillas are light which is a big deal for me. If they are too heavy I usually don't eat them. My tacos had onions and cilantro in it. I thought the menu said it would include guacamole but neither of mine had any in it. I always love salsa verde, the green salsa. It is definitely on the spicy side and not too tart. Service is very polite and friendly and the drive-thru makes it quite easy to grab a meal on the go. read more

Upside, this is a community staple. It's been there forever and is consistent with their service. Simple mom and pop burger/taco/burrito spot. Food is solid but nothing spectacular. I there were items like the crunchy chicken taco that were worthwhile. Alas, the change in economy really affected this place. Prices went up and quality has not kept pace with a simple meal which was inexpensive went to way overpriced compared to the quality that's being received. Food got smaller as prices went up. I get the economy issue. But, not the other corners cut. This is my experience not the whole. My coworkers used to come here regularly and now it's never recommended. Disappointing as it was a comfort food spot. The inside of the place is nothing spectacular. It's clean but a bit cramped. The outdoor patio is at an intersection with a park across the street. A lot of greenery. There used to be a lot of homeless but they stay across the street and it has subsided recently. I can't recommend for all. But, some may still like this place. read more

3/10/25 Okay, what's wrong with me?! Why have I not dropped the review of GE Chano's??!! It's an institution, this place has been serving up locals & visitors alike, heck they've been feeding hospital staff for years! Bless their hearts! I cannot count the times we've eaten here or taken to gos, especially Hubby over the past 20 years we've been around the area. Have not gone here in a bit though & today lunch time rolled in & we passed by-- Chano's for sure! Never had their pastrami & it is packed & bursting with umami flavors! Perfect with the mustard & pickles, the meat is plentiful. Yum! Yum! Tasted Hubby's Machaca & it was equally delicious. Didn't know that they have a drive thru now, as I mentioned, have not visited in a great while. We took advantage of this & ordered, waited for about 5 minutes & we were on our merry way. There's a fairly big parking lot (free). It ain't the last time, for sure, thanks Chano's for consistently amazing quick service & scrumptious eats! read more

Quick to-go spot. I see this passing by but never tried it. Decided to go in. What looks to be a dining area on the side actually isn't. There are tables however to eat on, but very few and limited. You order at the window on the side OR you order at the drive thru in the parking lot. The parking lot is extremely tight and small, so the way the drive thru was set up, and a few parking spaces in between seems to be a tight spot. If you can't find parking, looking for street parking is also a mission. Only ordered a drink. They had some foot traffic and a handful of parties that ordered. We were standing in front of the window but we weren't acknowledged until way later when the guy finally took our order. He was too busy handing out other orders but didn't say anything to us. This is the 5th time in a row that I've come and they have always closed an hour early. The first time we arrived was around 8pm and there were still workers inside but they stayed quiet when we pulled to the drive through.. so we left that time and just gave them grace. Oh my goodness, i forgot how deliciously salty and satisfying Chanos is!! My favorite of theirs (and of every place) is their chili cheese fries under the Americana menu. The cheese is completely melted through, the chili is super saucy and smothers the fries, and i devoured the entire thing. Their sauces aren't the best but it's completely okay because the food doesn't require anything extra. I also tried the pastrami quesadilla and it also didn't disappoint. Drenched in flavor, cheese, bell peppers, and yummy pastrami, I'm saving the rest for leftovers. Mm mm mm. I'm always on the hunt for the next great little gem among the many Mexican restaurants in the Los Angeles area. This one immediately caught my attention because of its bold claim--"World Famous Burritos." That was more than enough reason for me to check it out. I've actually been here quite a few times before, and I've already tried their chicken burrito, which was fantastic, and their pastrami burrito, which was an unexpected but incredible choice. Today, I decided to try something different and went with the signature chile relleno burrito and an order of beef taquitos. The burrito was absolutely packed with flavor. The chile relleno was soft but had just the right amount of crispiness on the edges. Combined with the fresh pico de gallo, melty cheese, and refried beans, every bite was a delicious mix of textures and bold flavors. The roasted chile added a nice smokiness, and the fresh ingredients gave it that homemade taste that sets a place like this apart. The taquitos came drenched in a smooth, vibrant green guacamole, and it was clear they don't skimp on it! The crispy shell had a satisfying crunch, while the shredded beef inside was well-seasoned and juicy. Dipping them into the red salsa made them even better. If you love taquitos, this is the way to get them! G.E. Chano's is a solid spot for authentic, flavorful Mexican food, and I can definitely see why they claim their burritos are world-famous. Drive by all the time with the "pastrami burrito " sign prominently displayed ..decided to stop in. Typical Mexican taco shop menu but came to try out the pastrami ...ordered the quesadilla version ..good portion they serve wet with a ranchero sauce and guacamole...while tasted good I would not order this with the sauce as IMO makes to soggy ...as others have mentioned value isn't exactly there as prices are on higher side read more

I love me some local burger joints but this was bad. They didn't have the price listed for large order of fries. When I asked, it was $14 which is fine for a full order but when I got home, this is what I got. The scrambled eggs would've been better if scrambled more. The pico with tomatoes made it really wet. The carne asada fries were ok, a bit too dry. We decided to try out Chanos restaurant across from Lincoln Park after running some errands I haven't to GE Chano's for many years since I was in high school these also my wife first time at GE Chano's. We went to the drive thru to order our food I remember the food was really good that's was many years ago. I notice there was a long line in the drive thru right away I told my wife the food is still really good. My wife and I were looking at menu what to then seen the breakfast burritos. My wife order her favorite burrito is the chorizo and egg and she order an bean and cheese burrito for my father in law. I order a machaca burrito I enjoy machaca burrito they very good depend what restaurants to go to. We took the food home the aroma from the burritos make me mouth watering to take a bite of my Machaca burrito. When arrive home I just got burrito and took a bite of it wow this machaca burrito have flavor that I really like the beef was really good season well with egg and others ingredients make burrito so good. I was in the area because my gf I had go to the DMV. We were hungry and decided to get some food. Since this place was near literally we came here. No one was in the drive thru. We ordered our food I got a pastrami sandwich with fries. My gf ordered taquitos and substitute the rice and beans for fries. I like how they accommodated that because most places probably wouldn't. Now one thing I have to say is I found it weird they didn't have a chicken option for the taquitos only beef. Moving along the pastrami was really good especially the bread they used. The fries could've been better if they had SEASONING ON IT! The food didn't take long but I noticed a line starting to form after we got our food. I am disheartened by the message since my nephews literally grew up eating food from this local burger stand.
