There's a lot to appreciate about George's diner. They obviously don't take shortcuts, they obviously treat their staff well, and their food is just objectively amazing. They could charge a lot more and they choose not to. I'm hardly Jesus Christ, but I would very gently suggest that they would be more in line with their own values if they removed the "we still say merry Christmas" sign. Sadly, we never knew this place was hidden back on Plymouth St. After trying their food, we wish we had known about this place long ago! We ate lunch here, we felt the menu was extensive, specials reasonably priced, and veggies were fresh and not from a can! The only downer was it lacked seasoning, we don't usually add S&P after a dish is cooked, but it needed some. We tried the pork chops with apple chutney and sweet potato fries, along with turkey pot pie over biscuits (which was the pie fillings made with fresh turkey, over biscuits). They food was very good. The red velvet cake was generous, but only OK. Not as fresh as "just made". Service was a bit slow, our meals came out after every other table was served (people who arrived after we did). Blueberry pancakes are the bomb, super fluffy and full of real blueberries. The staff is super nice and the food always comes quick and perfectly cooked. I believe they also do their own sausage patties in house and they are super tasty and well seasoned. read more

A gem in Meredith! Easy parking across the street, not much to look at outside but the food and menu and service are all worth the trip. Booths and tables inside. Service was superb - fast and friendly and full of character. The menu has typical diner food plus nightly specials but they are all homemade and delicious. Comfort food at its best. We had All You Can Eat fish fry (fresh haddock) which was crispy, light batter with fresh fish and loads of different sides. Clam strips which was a giant plate , huge plate of spaghetti and chicken pot pie. The grapenut pudding for dessert was awesome! We were driving through and saw George's and decided to stop on the spur of the moment. When we walked in another couple went in ahead of our party of 4. Within 10 minutes there were 12 people in there and they kept coming. Our server Rachel was great. She knew the menu. Two of us had the NE boil and we're amazed at the freshness and large portions of meat and vegetables. We had leftovers. My husband had fried haddock and fried with coleslaw. His portion was very large and the fish was fresh. The prices are very reasonable. It's a no frills place but it's very clean. Will return if we're ever in the area. read more

Came here two days in a row with a group of eight. As someone used to New Jersey and New York diners, I was thrilled to stumble upon George's. The pictures on yelp looked like homemade items....no, this can't be....a picture looked like homemade corned beef hash. Sacred hash. Ladies and gentlemen of the New Hampshire community and general Meredith region, believe it. George's not only whipped up a solid breakfast feast two days in a row, but has TWO KINDS OF CORNED BEEF HASH. No need to wipe your smartphone screen, you read that right. Two kinds. Everything was delicious for all eight of us, from the scrumptious eggs, eggs Benedict, French toast, and homemade whole wheat and raisin bread. The coffee was solid as well. Only thing I could take complaint with were the pancakes, which were rather biscuit-ey and not as flavorful as all of the other items. Overall, George's was excellent and our waitress Renae was superb. She handled a hungry crowd of eight with elegance and professionalism you would expect from a northern New Jersey diner. Ate here for the first time today. I was a bit uncertain about it since the reviews seemed hit or miss, but the person I was with had heard good things and wanted to give it a try. While the food was okay, it was nothing to write home about, and the lack of cleanliness of the entire building ensured we won't be back. I had the eggs benedict, and my mother had the two eggs with sausage, home fries, toast and beans. We both thought the eggs were the best thing on our plates, but it's pretty easy to find really good eggs at many breakfast places. The Canadian bacon on my benedict was on par with the stuff you can buy in a package at the grocery store, and I'm fairly certain the hollandaise was from a powdered mix. There was nothing WRONG with it, really, but it was underwhelming. We both felt the home fries were well cooked, but severely lacking in seasoning, and while the beans were tasty, you don't get more than a couple teaspoons' worth with your order. Beyond that, the place was fairly disturbingly dirty. The tablecloths were plastic, sticky and stained. The basket holding the condiments at our table was full of dust and crumbs. We were seated on the patio, where it was freezing cold and there were old leaves, straw papers and literal DIRT all over the floor. As an added bonus, a stink bug made its way across our table as we were getting ready to leave. Needless to say, we won't be in a rush to return. read more

Surprisingly good vegan options! Went here twice and enjoyed it. They have a veggie burger which is just okay, but the real star of the show is the gluten-free vegan pancakes which are delicious. If they added a Beyond burger and soy milk for coffee, this would easily be 5 stars. read more

Hurricane Irene blows in (to be fair, it was downgraded - but still a tropical storm!) And the only place open is Georges. Lucky, because the food was awesome! Had half a grilled chz sammy with tomato and bacon, and a cup of seafood chowder. Yum! And i had no idea they baked their own bread foe toast and sandwiches. It was chewy and thick cut deliciousness.And such a fun atmosphere with the excitement from the storm. Service was wonderful. My wife and I are locals who like to rotate among breakfast places. George's has always been good but part of today's breakfast included homefries which I'd need to give a C-. They were really just boiled potatoes cut into small chunks. Little if any grill action to make them even slightly crispy or tasty. It seems that a breakfast staple like that would have more attention to it. On a very positive side, my wife's waffle was perfect by what she is looking for... The worst meal we had on our trip by far! Ordered broiled fish and it came fried but the worst part was the sides. Canned green beans, boxed potatoes and the gravy was a brown gelatinous stuff from a mix or a can. And no dinner rolls which came with the meal and no apologies or mention of it until we asked.
