We were on a trip to Lake Winnepesaukee and came across this breakfast place. A great place with friendly hosts. The breakfast- pancakes, waffles, hash browns, home fries were all so great.

Cafe Deja Vu is a very popular local place for breakfast and lunch, which has been in business for 15 years. It was the Sunshine Coffee Shop before that. I have been meaning to stop here for quite some time and I finally did with a friend. We arrived here mid morning on a typical Sunday and the tight parking lot was almost full. We walk in and the place was very busy at capacity, folks already seated at the counter and at several booths and tables in two dining rooms. We were directed to the last open table near the front. The atmosphere is pretty homey of a cozy hometown country restaurant with wood walls and old pictures on the walls including several pictures and the history of 311 Court Street (now Cafe Deja Vu). We both start out with Superior coffees ($1.39 each) which was pretty decent. My friend also orders a Bloody Mary ($4.75) served in a pint with a big celery stick sticking out. The drink was not fancy but pretty good and he ordered a second Bloody Mary, why the heck not since it's Sunday. The breakfast entrees did take a while to come out since the place was really busy and there was a short wait for folks just arriving. My friend enjoyed the Eggs Benedict ($6.95) over English muffins with home fries and beans. I had the Breakfast Burrito ($7,25) with egg beaters ($0.50) served with home fries. The Burrito was huge with was stuffed with egg beaters and, meat (sausage) wrapped in a flour tortilla, topped with a thick layer of cheese and smothered with plenty of medium salsa. The homefries were very good, which were fresh cut potato chunks grilled and browned crisp outside and soft inside. The service was pleasant and attentive, The server checked up on us often and several refills on the coffee were given. We were both pretty full from the great breakfast and it was off to the slopes for a good half day of spring skiing. WEBSITE: http://www.cafedejavunh.com NOTE: Breakfast only on Saturdays and Sundays.

Just ok. Service was great..food, not so much. I would avoid the breakfast burrito, really wasn't executed properly. Parking is fine.

I don't know if our server was new, or if they were understaffed. I also don't know if the cook was new. At the end, I will tell you why I won't eat there again. Let's start with after we were seated it took a good 5 minutes or more before our server showed up. We almost left, but we had gone to El Tequila first only to learn that they are out of business. Darn! (We loved El Tequila! Tell me if you know, if they left the area or what). I should have known not to eat my food when the server thought I had ordered coke though I ordered lemonade! I have never had anyone ever confuse those! I ordered a Mexican omelet and hash browns (because I was really in the mood for Mexican food)! The omelet was good, but there was no seasoning in the ground beef, certainly not taco meat by any stretch of the imagination! I used all my sour cream (which had a lot of water in the container--does sour cream spoil?). And I used all my salsa. It was the only way I could even get an inkling of Mexican flavor. The hash browns were dripping with oil, so I onky had a couple bites of them. Sad! I drank about half my lemonade and asked for a To Go cup, but that never showed up. I waited as long as I could because the cramping started and I told my daughter, "We gotta get home." (I had the runs!) So, no, we won't be going back to Union diner again. Later I remembered this happened to me once before after eating there, but I had blamed it on the eggs. I think now, it must be the oil they use or something.

Probably not an issue but I'm a freak about that stuff. They make their own corned beef hash which was pretty good ( though mine is much better!). Their bread selection is also pretty good in that it's all hand sliced thick. However, on that note they did not have Rye bread- which is my go-to bread. Overall a good breakfast though not a great breakfast. I was happy we stopped in as we were all hungry.

Service on a Saturday noon seemed casual - no wait, got pointed towards a "high two-top" (waitress' words). I ordered some hot coffee and, more importantly, the chicken & waffles ($20). Now, this price point might seem more appropriate for Downtown Portsmouth or Boston, but it exists for a reason. Not only do you get a large portion of fried chicken, waffles, and syrup, its adorned with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Effectively, you're getting chicken & waffle eggs benedict. One would need quite the large appetite or have skipped another meal to finish it all.

This is a lovely restaurant that sits alongside Meredith Bay on Lake Winnipesaukee. There are a number of seating choices including bar, high top and conventional tables, many with views of the lake. This time of the year, the views of the snow-covered frozen lake are gorgeous. I wish I could say the same thing about our dinner, which frankly was a disappointment. The menu includes a good variety of starters, appetizers, salads, handhelds, and entrees. Two of us ordered the Flat Iron Steak. I realize this is usually a chewier cut of meat, but this was so tough it was inedible. Our server and the manager both could not have been nicer in terms of how they handled this as I returned mine and was quickly brought a different dinner- a French Dip sandwich. This was tasty but there was more bread than roast beef. The other person chose to keep her flat iron streak, but I could tell it was very difficult to cut and chew. Another ordered the Chicken Milanese Salad which included arugula, peppers, roasted tomatoes and olives in a balsamic dressing. The Parmesan crusted pan fried chicken came over-done but that meal was well-liked. The service and the ambiance were stellar.

It has its charm, but they could really use some fresh paint and some updating, and if they redid the booths, they could certainly fit in way more tables and you'd think make more money. The first day, my omelette was OK, though I have to say I prefer George's Diner next door. But the coffee was hot and the coffee cake muffin that was grilled was phenomenal! We came back the next day because of that muffin. Our second experience was not good at all, and the reason we did not go back again, despite being there for 13 days. Service was absolutely horrible! When we walked in, there were few tables seated. We ordered sunny side up eggs with potatoes (fruit for me) and a coffee cake muffin. It took 25 minutes to get it, and made us late for work. They do not turn over tables quickly here. It's a diner folks, and if you can't get eggs out quickly, how do you make money? It's back to George's for us. I have to say this really pissed us off. They tried to say it was a full restaurant, but when we came in, it was not. We ordered something very simple. My dining partner tips 20 bucks on breakfast, and had done so the day before, so though a different server, you think she'd be aware he's a very good tipper and it's a good idea to take care of him. Of 13 days there, we ate next-door at George's 11. The coffee cake muffin here is good, but when you're on a time crunch and have somewhere to be, choose somewhere else.
