One of the best things about traveling around is getting to try new places. We were having a hard time finding a place for breakfast and the Center Harbor Diner was "there". Heather was a great server - the whole place exudes such genuine hospitality. People are greeted when they enter and thanked when they leave. I had the eggs Benedict - and it was so good! Not too much hollandaise, eggs done just right. Wayne had a skillet special. Coffee was delish and went really well with the warm and gooey cinnamon bun. read more

This is very much a diner. I ordered coffee and an Irish Benedict. Everything was ok, definitely your "a" typical diner food. Pretty sure the hollandaise was a water and not cream based instant mix, and the hash was definitely straight from the can and grilled. My server was very pleasant and courteous. We love this place, we've been in the area now for five years , and we just went for the first time about a month ago. We've been back a few times sense. It's a simple place, simple menu, but the food is good and the staff is great. The atmosphere is a little plain, but the place is very clean the floor and tables and decorations are nice, and of the area. I avoided eating at this place for years, assuming that the interior was a rough as the exterior. Perhaps the "Welcome Bikers" sign gives one the wrong impression. After a discriminating friend dined there, and a lot of positive reviews, I decided to give it a chance. I wish I had tried it years ago. The inside of the restaurant is clean and charming, The food is very good, and the service is pleasant. My only complaint, they don't take credit cards. This is an unpretentious roadside diner in the center of an unpretentious middle New Hampshire tourist town. We stayed at a lovely inn, the Center Harbor Inn right on the first level. With so many places to have breakfast, we took the path of least resistance, walking the .3 miles to this nuts and bolts breakfast place. It's great! And cash only. Heather was our server. Tables are oak and worn. If you want to sit at the counter, it's nice stools facing the kitchen. Irene had scrambled with well done bacon. Perfectly prepared. I had the home made chili and cheese omelet. Wonderful and filling. We both had pumpernickel toast. Terrific. Heather is the kind of ideal server that makes the place. Fast efficient and friendly. The atmosphere inside is "no frills" which has counter seating with padded stools and two dining areas with folding tables and folding chairs. The food served here is homestyle American country cooking. The breakfast menu offerings include eggs & omelets (served with homefries & toast), pancakes, and French toast which include coffee, plus breakfast sandwiches and breakfast sides. For 35 cents more than regular toast, they offer homemade white, wheat, & raisin toast. The lunch menu includes sandwiches, burgers, salad plates, soups, chowders, sides (fries, rings, slaw, cottage cheese, applesauce, fruit cocktail), and comfort dinners (8 oz steak dinner, chopped sirloin, meat loaf, ham plate, liver & onions, chicken fingers, chicken parmesan). Pepsi products are served here. Daily specials are posted near the counter. The prices are pretty reasonable, most items and entrees priced under $10. On my drive through the Lakes Region, I was starting to get hungry for lunch. I passed by several restaurants in Meredith before entering Center Harbor. I decided to pull into the Center Harbor Diner for lunch. I could sit anywhere I wanted as I walked in and promptly given a menu and drink order taken (a big cup of ice water). I decided to order some specials. I started out with a Cup of Seafood Chowder ($2.75), which was served hot in a big "Center Harbor Diner" coffee mug "with ads" and very good. The seafood chowder was not too thick, which had plenty of shrimp, haddock, clams, & potatoes in a creamy broth. For lunch, the Haddock Dinner Special ($7.95) served with fries, cole slaw & 2 warm soft dinner rolls with butter. The portion of food was generous for the price. The food was tasty and filling on the greasy side, 4 battered haddock nuggets (hot and flaky haddock inside) on a pile of golden fries (soft & potatoey texture), sweet and creamy slaw (shredded cabbage/carrots) in a small bowl, and a plenty of tartar sauce in a small bowl. I needed a box to pack up the excess amount of fries and slaw. Overall, a solid good seafood lunch at a very fair price, $11.66 with tax and before tip. The service was good and prompt! This was a rough diner! We were traveling thru on a Sunday, love exploring diners, love the down home feel. This place was a total disappointment!!!! Came in at 1037 in the morning - it was after 11 before any staff greeted us! We were placed first on the list for a table, eventually two seats at counter cleared instead and we sat down. Our server was nice but very disorganized. Took another 10-15 minutes (conservative) before she even took our order. Refills were IMPOSSIBLE to come by. Our food came out fairly quickly but order was wrong and food was tough! Instead of home fries, they subbed in very McDonald's looking hash browns. We pointed this out, the waitress corrected the order. We ordered extra crisp bacon, came out rubbery and almost undercooked instead, but the middle pancake was burnt - so if I averaged the food together, it could have been okay I guess. In their defense, my partner said his food was better than mine. They DO seem to overestimate themselves with pop up statements on their menu saying "fast and friendly service" took more than an hour from the time we walked in until food type stuff was put in front of us. read more

Stopped in yesterday, first time visit, for their fresh lobster rolls. $19.95 each with fries, we'd ordered four totaled $86. Flavor was good, but they were the smallest damn lobster rolls we have ever seen. Would have expected two of the rolls per order for the price that we paid. Staff was friendly, cash only restaurant. First time for me stopping in, and we had Tanya One as a server. Terrific waitress, checked up on us just enough to make sure we had everything we needed, but wasn't bothersome. She's got a great sense of humor too. Most importantly- she didn't check on us when we had our mouths stuffed with food! I also noticed she did it with her other customers as well- A++ there! The food came up quick and hot even though it was fairly busy. An order of steak & eggs was cooked to perfection at med-rare and not overseasoned at all. (Montreal Steak seasoning for those who are interested). The steak was 8oz, tender, juicy and so tasty. The dull knife indicated at first it might be shoe leather, but it was far from it. Mouthwatering and falling apart in your mouth is the way it was served up. An order each of double eggs, toast, & home fries with bacon on one and sausage on the other was amazing as well. The bacon wasn't floppy or too crispy, and the sausage was lightly seasoned but had great flavor. (Option of links or patties- ordered was patties) They have real pumpernickel toast! Overall, for $30 and three people, this is a deal to stop and have breakfast or lunch (served all day). NOTE: You can pay with a credit card, but cash tips only. Most people don't realize when you leave tips via CC, a percentage of that is taken away from your server... So carry a little extra money. There IS a sign on the door as you enter which also states this. Don't be offended. Parking- a little funny if you're in anything bigger than a medium size SUV, but workable. If you're trailering anything, you might have a little trouble squeezing in. If everyone lines up fairly right, there's enough room for everyone eating at a given time. Bathrooms- Handicap; clean, nice, and they have blowers to dry. For someone like myself, I found it a bit yicky to have only this option. I know how many people don't wash, then touch doorknobs... So I personally like to grab a towel and open the door with it and toss. Speaking to the owner, she said people use the paper hand towels as TP- DON'T!! It causes clogs and that's just a hassle!!! Suggested a dispenser type hand towel thing that literally hands out little "bathroom tissue" (aka toilet paper) in tiny napkin size. I don't know about you ladies, but after changing a diaper of a child or going the bathroom, I like to wash, dry, and keep a clean handle. I hear so many who skip this step and know what kind of gross ickies I end up touching.... Also- for moms- there are NO changing stations. Get ready to balance on the toilet or go back out to the car!! Ding here. As a handicap accessible restaurant, it should have lever handles in all publicly accessed doors. The restaurant gets excellent reviews- newly renovated, real nice job, but the contractor missed some important (legal?) details. Decorations are sparse... But who really cares?! (None yet, but they're lookin!) You're there for the food- not interior design! Also- nice wood tables & chairs to sit in. read more

Found this spot on my way to Moultonboro. From the outside it looks a little like a trailer but in the indside it's actually pretty nice. Prices are decent and food is great. Missing the fifth star due to the service. The waitress basically comes for a drink order and your food order. Forget refills or maybe extra napkins. Other then that not to bad of a place. I will say in 2018, service is everything. It can certainly distinguish a good place from an outstanding one. Certainly the case here. read more

Nothing beats a great breakfast...was in the area for Bike Week and found Center Harbor on our way out for the day. There were three of us who pretty much "live to eat rather eat to live. Greeted at the door and seated right away, asked if we wanted coffee, just the way a diner should. Our waitress was terrific,told us the daily specials and gave us our menus. I chose the daily special, biscuits and gravy with 3 eggs and toast,the other guys ordered eggs ,bacon and ham. We all got side of hash. As for mine the biscuit and gravy was as good as it gets, I love the South and could live on grits ,biscuit and gravy and country ham. Well they tore this place down and rebuilt it... You walk in and the layout is exactly the same, but make no mistake about it, this was an empty lot 2 months ago. The decor is real nice, hardwood throughout, an extended breakfast counter for the locals to belly up to (Everyone knows your name) a few new big screens and all the same smiling faces from before. Wasn't awful, I just had better (like Dot's Bread & Butter restaurant in Ashland. Ordered the egg plate with ham; scrambles & homefries were on the dry side, and the ham was actually SPAM! Was truly surprised..and grossed out by that. My friends had pancakes and they both found it acceptable and huge portions of it (although you an order less portioned tacks. Stopped by here at the end of our road trip on our way back to Maryland. The restaurant is cute and clean and service was fast and friendly! We each ordered different dishes and loved everything!
