Took our 2009 Mercedes C300 4Matic Sport in for an oil change & health-check (a.k.a. Mercedes Service A & B). Bobby was very helpful and informative. They inspected everything and gave guidance on what things required immediate attention versus which things will need to be addressed in the future - but are not immediate priorities. They also did several other "fixes" to improve drivability/reliability of the vehicle at no additional charge. i.e. Adjusted tire pressures, etc. Much better (more honest) than the Mercedes Benz dealerships that wanted to charge us for things that were not critical necessities. - Prices were reasonable. - Service was prompt, and adhered to our scheduled appointment time. - 'Most' staff were wearing Covid masks. Based on first experience - I would definitely recommend and will continue to bring my vehicle back to them for service + maintenance ! read more

Took my car in to see them, they put in a non-standard battery that had a downstream impact on the second battery which cost me four times as much as if I had taken it to the overpriced Jaguar dealership. If spending more money than required for service makes you feel special, this is the shop for you. On a return trip to DC my daughter's suv started running rough and the check engine light came on. She pulled into an Auto Zone and a sales person connected his diagnostic computer and printed a report stating she had a bad spark plug. Due to liability issues he could not replace it. She ended up driving back the short distance to her home in DC. This past week she took the vehicle and the report to GAS where Roberto recommended a new coil, new spark plug wires, all new spark plugs with an estimated cost of $290. He also went on to explain that his mechanic recommended replacing the coil which provides spark to two plugs. I found this very strange. If the coil was indeed bad, then there would be two bad spark plugs, not one and the vehicle would not be drive-able. In an effort to save my daughter some money, I called Roberto and requested that he simply replace the $5 spark plug since the coil, wires and plugs were not that old. Replacing this one bad spark plug would be the equivalent of replacing a lug nut on a tire rim in terms of ease and time to perform the task. Nothing had to be removed to access the spark plug and the entire process could have been completed and checked in less than ten minutes. That includes opening and closing the hood! I have been restoring classic foreign cars for 30 years and know which end of a screw driver to hold! I called Roberto an hour later and he informed me that his mechanic replaced the faulty spark plug and was test driving the vehicle. This too, was a bit strange as all his mechanic had to do was plug in his computer to first, clear the check engine light and, second see if the problem shows up again. Why try and test drive a vehicle in Georgetown on Friday at 2:30 in the afternoon? I can only guess he wanted to justify the $217 fee for changing this $5 spark plug. Yes, $217 to replace one spark plug. Note to me: next time book a same day round trip flight to DC, replace spark plug and enjoy a nice lunch with my daughter for less than what Georgetown Auto Service charges to replace a spark plug. read more

I'm in the process of moving to the area, commuting on the weekends back to New Jersey. So when my car starts handling badly and I can imagine all kinds of horrors, I knew I had to get it looked at before I attempted another trip up and back. Luckily, Yelp! comes to the rescue. I call Bobby at 7:05 AM. Explain that I think I need an alignment, know I need an oil change, can I make an appointment for this week. He tells me to come right in. Within 20 minutes I'm walking in the door. I explain my wobble problem and he says that he thinks I just have a tire separating. This could have been bad at 70 mph on the highway if it totally came apart, but ... it didn't. I leave the car, one of the guys loads me up into a scientist's dream car (Land Rover), drops me off at work, and reassures me everything will be alright. I realize within moments that I have left my phone on Bobby's desk. We work it out so he can call me at work, after a couple hours he lets me know that yes, the tire was separating and at minimum I need one new tire - believe it or not I know better. How much for the pair? Do I need 4 (no, just the two but he didn't "sell" me)? I expected the worst, I got - while not scot free - a good deal, great relief, and peace of mind for the next up and back. Did Bobby treat me differently because I'm a woman? No. I think he really listened to what I said, understood why getting it fixed was important, and let me know what maintenance I need to do in the next few months. Oh! and the guys were on the other side of town when I got off work, so Bobby arranged for an Uber ride to pick me up. Thanks for everything. Georgetown Auto Service provides quality and affordable work, and excellent customer service. Roberto is particularly friendly and helpful, and really I was impressed with the whole crew. There is no question that these guys know what they are doing, provide great customer service, and go above and beyond to get the job done affordably. Because of this, I would recommend them, with only a small caveat--I must admit that I personally would not return to this shop. Multiple times, they forgot to complete simple services which I had requested (top off coolant, swap out wiper blades, change oil), which then forced me to return to the shop again the next day to have the task completed. That's a significant inconvenience for me, since I cannot get to work without my car. That this happened repeatedly was unacceptable to me. Similarly, I experienced issues with the shuttle service, which can be disorganized and frustrating. Once, my shuttle showed up a half hour late. During my wait, I called the front desk lady for help; she was rude and unhelpful, and couldn't tell me who or what I should be looking for. Another time, I requested a shuttle and it never came. I'm really torn on this shop, because there's no question in my mind that they provide great work and are totally trustworthy. If that's enough for you, then I wholeheartedly recommend this place. But for me, the lapses in the details made my experience frustrating enough to not want to go back. read more

So...Confession... In this one instance, I will admit to being an almost total girl. But just the one time... I don't know anything about car repair. Let me be clear, I'm not a complete idiot. I know what spark plugs are and where the oil goes, but I'm really not interested in the rest. Pretty sure other people know these things, therefore alleviating me of that responsibility. I happened upon this little shop completely by accident, but I totally believe it was divine providence that led me here. As a woman, there is always the stigma of going to a service place because, rightly or not, we assume we're going to: A) get hit on and "little lady'ed" B) be treated like we're idiots C) overpay D) be charged for unnecessary These things, none of them, will be your reality at this shop. Long story short, if you're looking for an honest auto repair place near DC, search no more, Bobby and Ricardo fit that bill to a "T". Not being well versed in the auto world, I grew leery as we approached our destination in Georgetown and our van began to lurch and hesitate hardcore before accelerating. I began to feel the dread as we called around to see if there were any shops would be willing to assess our 20 year old conversion van's current state. Would this be another costly repair? Had our van breathed its last breath? We had a pretty tight time frame to work within so we were relieved to learn that Bobby would be able to take a look at our good ol' van first thing the next day. He had asked us to check to see if we were leaking anything. We reported that we had inconclusive findings at best. The next morning after taking our lovely van in, Bobby assured us that our van was slipping so badly because we virtually had no transmission fluid. When we inquired about needing to replace the transmission due to any leaks, he joked with us that he could take our money to perform that task, but that replacing the transmission was wholly unnecessary. Upon retrieving our van, they offered us some tips on how to monitor our van to ensure a safe arrival back to the Midwest. Both Bobby and Ricardo were amazingly friendly and upfront. No complaints here. I called ahead about an oil change and was asked to come in the following day due to volume. Swinging by the next day, I was told they were swamped again but when I reminded him of my phone call, he fit me in. I got a list of other things my car needs (car is 10 years old and I haven't done any real maintenance on it yet) but no pressure to book them. I had borrowed my parents car and left some scratches in it. I wanted to get it fixed before I brought it back to them. I called a bunch of different places until I talked to Bobby at Georgetown Auto Service who was the first person who could look at it the same day. When arriving to the shop I waited only a few minutes in the lobby until Bobby could look at my car. Bobby has far some of the best customer service skills of a mechanic that I have dealt with. He was friendly , attentive, and I felt as though I was talking to a long time friend. The services After bobby got done with the car you could not even see the scratches. The services was also very fast. The lobby of the building was very comfortable (great AC), the bathroom was clean, there was a good reading selection to choose from, and it had a couple of nice Ducati motorcycles too look at. . I came across Georgetown Auto thanks to a friend when I was shopping around for a place to get my Hyundai Elantra fixed. I had been given estimates for my car that I felt were unfair, and when Georgetown Auto gave me an estimate, it was several hundred dollars less than their competitors. Their service was excellent and my car was ready in no time and in excellent shape. Bobby even told me he noticed an issue that would eventually need to be fixed and explained how I would know when the time came. As someone who knows very little about cars, this was much appreciated! I have used their services twice and feel that at Georgetown Auto, Bobby and Ricardo do their best to give you the lowest price possible. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and I would recommend them to anyone I know. Georgetown Auto is a family owned and operated auto repair shop in the Alexandria area (a few blocks from Crystal City Metro Station). Bobby and Ricardo were a huge help during a really stressful experience this past 4th of July weekend. On my way to Reagan Airport to pick up my sister, my engine failed right outside the parking garage. Although we got it to start up long enough to make it to a different auto repair place, the engine's head gasket had warped leaving us no option other than replacing the entire engine. This other auto place quoted me an obscene price for a used engine and labor, so at least partially because of all the other positive Yelp reviews I read, I decided on Georgetown Auto Service to toe the car to in order to get the engine replaced. Throughout the process Bobby, the owner, was direct, helpful, understanding and sensitive to how stressed I was in managing everything while also trying to find transport to Norfolk, VA for the 4th. I highly recommend his shop since the car has been running great ever since. I was especially impressed with his customer service skills and his desire to keep me as a repeat customer. Thousands of dollars down the drain for my car not to start. Sold me parts I didn't need. Put old tires on my car after I ordered new ones. Waited over a year to tell me about a free warrantied part that I could have gotten to save other part failures and thousands of dollars. They only mentioned it when they got stuck. I was on the verge of selling it for next to nothing. I finally took it somewhere else and they got it running. They explained everything including the fact that I spent a lot on unnecessary repairs and the main issue (warrantied part) was never addressed . Wasted money is one thing, but the stress of a car repeatedly stopping and getting the run around is not worth it. On the good side, the are responsive and communicate well, which I why I trusted them, but none of that matters if they are being deceptive or they are clueless about the problem. They are good. You wouldn't know they are deceiving you unless you take it somewhere else... and I was honestly never going to do that until I was forced to for a warrantied part. I really used to like this place. It was an economical and fast service shop in the Del Ray neighborhood. They were open on weekends so you could get work done on your day off. It's hard enough to change my schedule for a doctor's appointment, let alone for a basic oil change. Lately their service has started falling apart. First, they forgot about my car as it sat in their lot all day for basic service. They forgot to call me, the next time, when the work was completed. Now, they're not open on weekends. Their extended hours was the primary reason I went to them the first time and why I recommended them to my neighbors. I know they're busy. However, if I can't rely on them to do the work I'm paying them to do or to tell me when the work is completed they clearly don't respect my time. The fact their not open on weekends basically means they have no advantage over the dealer anymore. I won't be back. read more

I had a sensor preventing me from passing a VA inspection, but every shop in VA wanted to charge me to tell me what the error code was. I called around and the owner picked up. I told him all I need to know is the error code and then if you can fix it, but don't want to pay just to get a error code. He said bring it by, and he connected up checked the codes and let me write them down. He knew enough about the codes to know he didn't have the machine to fix the issue. There was no charge and I was able to make the required calls to find a shop that could fix it. While this interaction was very short it was after no less than 6 other shops had simply told me I was going to end up paying over 100$ to get a code number. (The issue ended up being an airbag sensor issue. Something that once a error code was provided every single shop in VA, well over 2 dozen, said it was only gonna be fixable by a dealership. I ended up finding a shop in DC that resolved it within 24 hours and for 1/2 the price that a dealership quoted me. Not including the 2 week wait to get the appointment and a service charge on top of the fix estimate. In all this one 5 minute interaction saved me at least 100$ on a issue no one except one very talented shop in DC could fix) read more

I discovered Georgetown Auto Service on yelp from all the fantastic reviews it gets and after what happened a couple of weeks ago I have to add my 2 cents - Bobby and the crew at Georgetown Auto Service are the absolute best. They're honest and they take great care of you and your car with fantastic customer service. After my radiator failed and caused possible damage to my engine, I took my car to G&G Auto Center in Silver Spring. I was told I needed a new engine and it'd cost $6,000 for a new Jasper engine. Thank goodness I remembered Georgetown Auto Service. I spoke with Bobby and told him what happened. He thought $6,000 sounded pretty high even for a new Jasper engine and would call around for a better price, but more importantly he wanted to take a look at my jeep to see if it even needed a new engine. After sending my car to Bobby, who did find me a better price on the engine btw, he found that I didn't need a new engine, just a new radiator and hoses, etc. Bobby kept me up to speed on everything they did to test the engine, including driving it to ensure the engine's integrity and the jeep's safety. I am so thankful to Bobby and his staff for looking out for me and doing all they could to keep my costs low and get my car back to me when I needed it. I have the worst luck with cars but everyone here has always been a call away whenever I need assistance & always helpful whenever I have to drop it off for maintenance or repairs. They've been helping me for 4 years and my dad for even longer. They've seen me through blown engines, alternator problems, and most recently a destroyed tire. Ladies - How many of you avoid getting an oil change solely based on the fear of an auto shop ripping you off and throwing on charges without warning? That's precisely the service I received at Georgetown Auto... I will not be returning to Georgetown Auto Service. Upon my initial visit, I was happy with the service and timeliness, so I perceived that they were reliable and fair. However, following my recent visit with a request for a basic oil change and to run the check engine light code in the system for my 2001 Honda Accord valued at $2500, I was bombarded with a laundry list of repairs without any true advice attached. These repairs proved unhelpful and superfluous, given that their cost would add up to more than the value of my vehicle, and were dramatized in nature. Some of the repairs listed had previously been performed on my vehicle (within the last year), and did not provide any explanation to the overall state of my car. Upon picking up my vehicle, I was informed that I owed $150 for an oil change and a full diagnostic write-up; I was not informed of these charges when dropping off my vehicle, or prompted with a phone call/notification that these charges would be presented. Thank you for turning me off to any mechanics in the DC Metropolitan Area, and confirming my distrust in local services. I will continue to drive my car an hour south to Fredericksburg in order to acquire loyal and fair services from my hometown mechanic. read more

DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR VEHICLE!!! THEY ARE CROOKS! MY CAR CAME BACK WITH MORE PROBLEMS THEN WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEM. I dropped my car off to them on Sunday because the heat stopped working. My appointment for service was scheduled for Monday morning, as directed by Roberto, one of the mechanics. The entire day passed, so when I got home from work I figured I would give them a call. I described to them who I was and what my car looked like. The gentleman that I spoke to replied with "OH Yeah, that car! I was wondering what it was doing in our parking lot." I thought to myself 'Okay, so Roberto never explained why my car was being dropped off to the mechanics that were supposed to be working.' But I wanted to give these guys the benefit of the doubt so I tried to be very patient with them. Before getting off the phone with them they told me they would take a look at my car and let me know what is going on with it when they figured it out. I did not receive a call from them later that night. Around 8:50 am Tuesday morning, I received a voicemail from Georgetown Auto Service about what was wrong with my car. I called them back and they told me that I have 3 leaks in 3 different places and 3 things needed to be replaced costing me $1,180. These things were not directly related to why my heat was not working. I told Roberto that I could not replace those things right now, that I do not have that kind of money. I asked him if he could please do what he needed to do to get the heat to work. The solution was to flush the system so that the anti-freeze could move and circulate properly. I DID NOT receive a call from them at all on Tuesday, so as it was getting close to the shop's closing time, I figured I would call to see what was going on with my car. The gentleman that answered the phone had no idea what the problem was with my car so he went to find Roberto. He then asked Roberto what was wrong on with my car and if the job was finished. I was put on hold for about two minutes while this conversation was happening. There seemed to be some sort of argument between Roberto and another gentleman (different person than who answered the phone), after the two minutes I was told that my car was finished and that I could come in and get it. WHEN I WENT TO PICKED THE CAR UP THE HEAT WAS STILL NOT WORKING AND THE RADIATOR WAS PORING OUT ANTI-FREEZE. WHEN I DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH THE OWNER, BOBBY GONZALEZ, HE TURNED THE CONVERSATION INTO AN ARGUMENT AND TOLD ME THAT I COULD NOT PROVE THAT MY CAR WASN'T LEAKING ANTI-FREEZE BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN TO THEM. I TOLD HIM, "HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT A CAR CAN BE DROPPED OFF NOT VISIBLY LEAKING ANTI-FREEZE THEN AT THE TIME OF PICKUP BE PORING OUT ANTI-FREEZE OUT OF THE RADIATOR?" BOBBY EXPLAINED THAT THE RADIATOR IS OLD THAT IT WAS ROTTING. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND BECAUSE THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED 5 YEARS AGO. The conclusion that we agreed to after this argument was that Bobby would be taking over my car and that no one else will be touching it. He will replace the radiator at cost and there would be no labor included. He said that he will have this done by late morning early afternoon on Wednesday. He told me to call him at 7 am because that is when he would be in working on my car. So, that is what I did, I called him at 7:05 am and Roberto answered the phone and stated that Bobby wouldn't be in until 7:40 or 8 am, which was very different from what he told me the night before. I asked Roberto if he could please tell Bobby to call me when he got in. I received a text from Bobby around 9 am about what he was going to do to my car. I called the shop at 10:40 am and was informed that Bobby was not there and that he should be expected back in around an hour or so. At 12:50 pm I received a text from Bobby that I should give him a call. I called and someone else answered the phone. I was put on hold for a long time, after five minutes I hung up and called back again.
