This location is better than Georgetown, believe it or not. Skip the line, come here. I know, you know, we all know Georgetown cupcakes are decent. Sometimes the hype is worth it, what can I say. Just look at this picture. It's a cupcake. I gave it 4/5, because I want more.
The cupcakes here are delicious and moist. They have a large variety of cupcakes so you can choose the type of cupcake you want. I really like the caramel, coconut and strawberry cupcakes but you can't go wrong with any of them. There really isn't space to sit so you need to take the cupcakes to go. I liked that there wasn't a long wait and the service was good.
Overall, the Georgetown Cupcake in Bethesda is a high 3* experience and certainly one worth visiting for a delicious cupcake. The shop could easily be a 4* if not for the decline in quality which is too considerable to overlook. The decline is in their presentation, attention to detail, and overall quality. That said, these cupcakes are as good, if not better than your average bakery cupcake. Again, the 3* is because the cupcake quality once was arguably most competitive in the region. They do offer traditional flavors which are available on specific days of the week and seasonal flavors that are themed. If you want a specific traditional flavor it is best to arrive early before they sell out. The same goes for their seasonal flavors. Customer service is OK. Street parking does exist, however, considering this is a busy street the parking along the storefront is almost always occupied. There is garage parking in the area down the street from the bakery. I will continue to visit when in the area. Give them a try.
I love cupcakes , however, through the years , this place has disappointed me. The service is good, no complaints, there but the shop is so small. It's always cramped.. The door can easily smack someone waiting on the inside! Their menu has expanded, and it would be nice if some of the menu items had a short description, so we don't have to keep asking the staff what's in this or that. The taste, they changed the recipe and it doesn't taste the same. The cupcakes taste more artificial and more like it came from a Betty Crocker cake mix. What chapped my @ was when my cupcakes were placed in their iconic pink box, and they were tilted. Like seriously? So yeah. Unless someone else is treating. It's a no for me. I rather go to Sprinkles.
I picked up my cupcakes and checked them in the store. When I opened the box, they were in terrible condition--upside down, melted, and stuck together, looking like a complete mess inside the box. I immediately asked for a replacement, but the manager did not come out to assist me. I eventually had to leave because I was parked directly in front of the store. I paid $98 for two boxes of cupcakes that were completely ruined and unusable. I had planned to gift them to my office, but now my plans are ruined.
Believe me or not, but I think the Bethesda location has better tasting cupcakes than the location in Georgetown. Most of the time I order my cupcakes from this location. I'm a cupcake fanatic and have been eating their cupcakes for years. Time and time again, the Bethesda location proves to be superior. My recommendations are any cheesecake flavor, the red velvet, and my favorite months for specialized cupcakes are February and October (for their red velvet flavors and their pumpkin!!).
Georgetown Cupcakes are still my favorite even though the rest of the world seemed to have moved on to other bakeries. I'm still a die hard fan of their red velvet cupcake and continue to order boxes to gift to family and friends on special occasions.
Georgetown cupcake is a classic staple of the dmv area. The cake is fluffy as always. The flavor is distinct and shines through the cake well. The frosting is rich and thick. If you're not a frosting person, these cupcakes aren't for you. There is quite a bit of frosting, but it compliments the cake well. I like that for the whole month of February there are heart decorations! The service surprised me a little as when I opened my box there was a smoshed finger print in the frosting of two of my cupcakes. Probably when the server went to grab them they got the frosting. It was a bit upsetting as the most exciting part of the cupcake is the aesthetic appeal.
Picked up my cupcakes and opened the box and they just looked like a mess, not sure if they were dropped or tilted too much when going into the bag but definitely should have checked them before leaving the store. So sad and not suitable for gifting.
This is a very convenient location, located in high traffic downtown area, convenient parking garage right across the street. Service: efficient, line moves fast Cupcakes: delicious, it has been our favorite in comparison to all other cupcake shops, buttery bottom and creamy top. Price: not the cheapest, on the pricy side, but...you get what you pay for. Inside the shop: clean , tiny place, can get crowded with people who waiting for orders instead of order ahead just to pick up. Highly recommend by @WineDinenVacay
My first experience with Georgetown cupcakes was when my wifes best friend sent us a dozen to us where we lived in California to celebrate the birth of our first child 11 years ago. Fast forward to today and we live close by and were out with some friends and stepped in. The shop is little on the small side so I could see it getting crowded easily. The cupcake selection was extensive. So much so we spent a lot of time talking with the guy behind the counter regarding the difference between the 4 different types of chocolate cupcakes. We got a bunch and I sampled the Red Velvet, Key Lime and the Lavender Earl Grey. The Key Lime was my favorite flavor wise. Also the cupcakes were little on the small side compared to some of the other bakeries that we have been to in the area. Overall the experience was good and we would probably swing back in if we were in the area.
I used to be a regular at the Georgetown Cupcakes in Boston before the pandemic. I was sad to see the business had downsized but was ecstatic to visit again during a trip to DC. We decided to go to the Bethesda location instead of the Georgetown location thinking the parking situation would be more favorable. Of course, the street was blocked off for an event taking place the next day. I decided to get a half dozen cupcakes, not knowing the next time I'd be able to make it back to either location. I ordered two vanilla2, a vanilla birthday, a red velvet, a chocolate ganache, and a salted caramel. I couldn't quite remember which vanilla was my favorite but I went with my gut and got two of the cream cheese icing variety. I remembered enjoying the other flavors before and went out on a limb to try the salted caramel. The cupcakes were good. However, they did not quite rise to the level of deliciousness I remembered. And the chocolate ganache and the salted caramel were completely forgettable. In all fairness, it is hard to compete with a memory and something as simple as a change in elevation can affect baking results. I shared these cupcakes with first time Georgetown customers and they were very impressed. Overall, I'd give the vanillas and the red velvet 5 stars as they still rose above the quality of cupcake you can find at other bakeries and I'd be willing to try other flavors.
Georgetown Cupcakes are delicious and moist. The icing if rich with the perfect balance of sweetness not overpowering the cupcake. There's typically a line (short or long; depending on the location and time of day you go. The customer service is great and the line typically goes quick. All the cupcakes are highly enjoyable. ORDER: * Chocolate S'mores * Chocolate cupcake with a s'more flavor icing. I was told this is similar to the hot chocolate cupcake which was my original pick however they were all out. * Red Velvet * My favorite red velvet cupcake in the chocolate family was amazing. The icing tastes like a cross between buttercream and cream cheese icing. It's hard to say; nonetheless it was yummy. * Chocolate * OK, so clearly another chocolate cupcake; what difference can you possibly have and why choose a plain cupcake. Hear me out; a classic chocolate cupcake is pure bliss. This plain chocolate cupcake with buttercream icing was great. A chocolate lovers dream. SERVICE: The service was great. The gal at the register had a good handle on he flow considering their system was down requiring manually entry of debit/credit card transactions vs cash transactions. Despite the system being down, the staff was able to navigate through customers fairly well working under the pressure of the occasional questions from a customer regarding the system being down. Tip: always carry cash so you don't miss out on a sweet treat due to a system outage and not wanting to provide your card information manually. Let me just start by saying that I stood in the freezing cold for 10 minutes just to get in the door--that's how good these cupcakes are. I went to the original location years ago but my friend suggested we stop by the Bethesda location on a Sunday afternoon. I got there and the line was outside but no one seemed to mind. I got the vegan Apple Spice cupcake and the chocolate and peanut butter cupcake. I expected the chocolate and peanut butter one to be as good as it was but I wasn't sure about the vegan one. Needless to say, the line is out the door for a reason. It was soooo very good. I would get it again no problem. Go. Just go. It is absolutely worth getting the pink box. read more

I am absolutely obsessed with Georgetown Cupcakes! In all my travels as a consultant to various cities I still maintain that Georgetown Cupcakes makes the best cupcakes. Their cupcakes are moist, flavorful, and never taste overly sweet (like that cupcake you bought at the grocery store). Their icings are always on-point and especially scrumptious. If you are lucky enough to work or live by a Georgetown Cupcake location they have a secret flavor of the day which you can access by looking up their cupcake cam, if you go to the store location and ask for the secret flavor of the day your cupcake is free! Let's get into the cupcake power rankings: 1. Red Velvet - This is by far my favorite cupcake that Georgetown makes. A moist red velvet cupcake and a delicious cream cheese frosting. 2. Salted Caramel - I love salted caramel so I'm always a huge fan of this cupcake. 3. Unicorn - Yeah I know this is a weird cupcake. It's one of the seasonal cupcakes you can only get in September. Honestly I like it because it looks cool (there's a unicorn ontop). Also the base is very similar to funfetti. Funfetti is just awesome. 4. Strawberry - Eating a cupcake with some fruit makes it healthier right? This cupcake has their classic vanilla base with a delicious strawberry frosting on top. 5. All of their vanilla/ chocolate cupcakes - These are the classic cupcakes with some sort of vanilla/ chocolate combination. I prefer Georgetown's more exotic cupcakes flavors over these but if you're getting a dozen for a birthday you can't go wrong with selecting these. Georgetown Cupcakes is awesome!! It's probably the only place I recommend people visit when they come to DC for the first time. My three tips are: 1. Visit the Bethesda Location, the line is always shorter here than the DC location. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get my cupcake. 2. Look up the secret cupcake of the day to score a free cupcake. 3. Plan to exercise the day of going, you're probably going to eat more than one cupcake let's admit it. read more

Now these are high-end cupcakes! Soft, moist, not too sweet cake; an icing that's smooth, not grainy, and rich. They're nice to behold and even better to eat. About 3 bucks a pop, they're a little on the expensive side but not bad for a snack or dessert in the Woodmont Ave part of Bethesda - and well worth it for the care and quality. We had: red velvet, cookies & cream, chocolate ganache, and an Earl Grey bergamot and lavender flavored cupcake. All were uniformly good and satisfying. read more

Yum yum yum!! My favorite cupcake brand! I don't know how it is over the weekends but during the weekdays I can always run in and run out in like 5 minutes and have my cupcake fix! There is a garage right across the street with metered parking so bring your coins though I did see a sign about mobile app parking coming soon. Try the salted caramel and you won't be disappointed!! There is always at least one vegan cupcake option but my daughter says it's gross lol. But different strokes for different folks! :) read more
I was in the area and decided to stop for a cupcake. Though there was a line I was able to order pretty quickly. There was a Halloween theme at the time and they had a nice variety of flavors. We had to get the red velvet of course. That's a go to for us. Also a peanut butter, a white cake, a chocolate cake. All were moist and satisfying. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. read more

Super yummy and delicious cupcakes near Bethesda Row. Their red velvet and Oreo cupcakes are the BEST ones in my opinion. Such a simple yet super delicious cupcake because they're always so moist and decadent. I'm never disappointed every time I come here. It's a very little shop though so if it's a busy day, the line might be out the door! read more

If you want to try Georgetown cupcakes, skip the long lines in Georgetown and head to Bethesda. It's the same cupcake with less hassle. The cupcake is of average size topped with tasty icing. The icing to cake ratio is off in my opinion. Because of this, I'm not the biggest fan. It is still a good cupcake and need to try it at least once while you're in the DMV. read more

Majority of my family enjoyed Georgetown cupcakes!!! I ordered 2 Vanilla sprinkle, 1 chocolate coconut, 1 carrot cake, 1 strawberry,1 red velvet cupcake and a hot chocolate. I believe they fixed the packaging because the cupcakes were intact and not all over the place. I had the strawberry cupcake and it was so moist and soft. The cake was not too sweet and had chunks of real strawberries in it. The icing was good, it just becomes a lot after awhile and I remove the rest. My mom, daughter and myself enjoyed our cupcake but my son did not like his cupcake. Price is ok, spent almost $20 for 6 cupcakes but I guess it's because they've won cupcake wars on TV. Hot chocolate didn't even taste like hot chocolate. Barely any chocolate in it. It taste like warm milk with a hint of chocolate but not the hot chocolate I'm used to at other places. read more

Katherine Heigl Most people don't like her. Think she's overrated. But everyone deals with it because she's so famous. She's not particularly friendly, doesn't knock our socks off with her work. What is it about Georgetown Cupcakes that people will stand in a line that goes halfway around the block? In all honesty, I still can't figure it out - at least on any normal day but in the case of opening day, its because they're free. And yes, I was one of the crazies to stand in line for a free cupcake. The new store in Bethesda opened today next to Assaggi and is as popular as the motherstore in DC. Its bright and pink and filled with cake treats. The layout makes a little bit more sense because there is a designated IN and OUT door. Similar to the DC shop, there is only one table with 4 chairs for you to enjoy your treats. However, there are also outdoor tables and chairs so if you aren't eating your cupcake on the go- you can still sit down with a friend to enjoy your cakes in cups. For my free cupcake, I chose the pumpkin spice. It was cutely decorated and the taste was alright. The frosting was light and I believe it had a maple flavor. The cake appeared to be dry on the outer bit but once you bit in, it was soft and moist. It is not my most favorite pumpkin cupcake ever but it was decent and better than CakeLove's. I still defer to Lavender Moon for the best pumpkin cupcake. To be fair, I also bought 2 cupcakes - vanilla on chocolate and vanilla on vanilla. They're sitting on my dining room table at the moment because I'm not sure it's wise to eat all 3 in 10 minutes (though it wouldn't be completely uncharacteristic of me to do so). *edit - I ate the chocolate cupcake. I enjoyed the frosting and the little bits of chocolate on top but the cake didn't wow me. *edit #2 - I ate the vanilla^2 cupcake. (Yes, that means I ate all 3 in one night.) and I actually really liked it. The frosting was the same as the chocolate cupcake - just with a glittery flower instead of chocolates pieces. The cake was significantly better. You could see the vanilla beans in the cake and it was entirely delicious. So this means should I ever return, I will get the vanilla^2 but pass on the chocolate. Nonetheless, it seems Bethesda Row is welcoming Georgetown Cupcake with open arms and if the lines stay as long as they are, Fancy Cakes on the next block over doesn't stand a chance. read more
I'm not really a fan of this whole cupcake trend. There are so many issues I have with cupcakes. To start with, there's always too much frosting, which is almost always so overwhelmingly sweet that it hides the flavor of the actual cake. Then, it's surprising how many bakers screw up the baking time of cupcakes so that they end up being incredibly dry. Finally, since cupcakes have become the new food trend (although, thank god I see this trend slowly petering out), the cupcakes have become just way too "precious". As Alicia G so eloquently put it "a case of style over substance". Unfortunately, these problems persist with Georgetown Cupcakes as well, but at least for me, not to a debilitating degree. My first taste of a Georgetown Cupcake was this past weekend when my brother (who is a devout fan of Georgetown Cupcakes) felt that our nieces visit to the US wouldn't be complete without dying of diabetes, and so brought us all here. While in line, my brother was detailing all of the cupcakes that he's tried, and what his recommendations were. Me? I was wondering if they had any cupcake flavored martinis (ooooh...what a great idea! A cupcake martini bar!), but was otherwise disinterested. My interest was piqued when I saw the line out the door (this was around 5pm on Saturday)...anything with a line that long, HAD to be good...right??? My husband ordered the peanut butter and chocolate cupcake, which I took a bite. My brother warned us that it was super duper peanut buttery, and he was right. The cake itself was a chocolate lava cupcake (with a liquid chocolate center), and the frosting was peanut butter, but the frosting was so intense that it completely overwhelmed the chocolate, and so sweet that it was almost sickening. The cupcake itself was decent as the molten center kept the cupcake very moist. Then, last night, I was back in Bethesda for dinner with an out of friend, and afterwards we wandered to Georgetown Cupcake for a gift for his wife. He didn't end up getting anything for her, but I got a few cupcakes for my husband (who was laid up in bed with a neck/shoulder/back injury). Just to round out this review, I decided to tried the chocolate ganache cupcake. As this did not have the molten center like the peanut butter chocolate cupcake, I found the cupcake to be a little dry, and again, the ganache "frosting" was overly sweet. Of course, all the cupcakes are perfectly adorable and pretty, but I think I would have liked a little more balance in the flavors. In both instances the frosting easily overpowered the cupcake, even when some of the frosting was scraped off. The service was rushed, but decent. Considering the length of the line (on both visits), I really couldn't expect anything more. All in all, for me, Georgetown Cupcakes isn't worth trying to find parking in Bethesda, then standing in line, for. However, that being said, the cupcakes are decent, and if I was already in the area with friends who wanted to try this place out, I wouldn't dissuade them either. read more
There is no cupcake like a Georgetown Cupcake! The creme de la creme of cupcakes. Rich, moist,light, and luscious cake. Then, there is the frosting....creamy, smooth, scrumptious, and packed full of flavor. The chocolate is amazing and then they combine it with caramel. My brain is in serendipity mode, so happy and enjoying each bite. Savoring the moment and wishing it would never end. So, if you are in the mood for a cupcake that rivals no other, head on over to Georgetown Cupcakes and be prepared to be impressed! read more

OH. MY. HEAVENLY. GOODNESS!!!! This place is orgasmicly amazing! Perfect for those sweet tooth cravers or even those who just like amazing desserts! You walk into a small shop, packed of customers with their eyes wide open and mouths dropped long! The 15 minute line is definitely worth it! Theres a whole array of cupcakes to satisfy to chocolate of chocolates to red velvet lovers to even the simple lemon cupcake eaters. Each cupcake is definitely rich and moist yet light and fluffy. The cashiers are always so patient and friendly, always giving out suggestions and helping you decide. Definitely great for friends, birthdays, dates, families, kids, or even an afternoon out stop! :) read more

Now THAT is what I call a cupcake! So after my ears being bludgeoned to death about stories of Georgetown cupcake, I decided to finally try one. I was told there are lines for this place, but I will presume that rumor must apply to the one in Georgetown because I was in and out in 5 minutes. I ordered the Chocolate peanut butter one and the red velvet, along with a bottle of water I assumed I would be needing to wash it all down with. I decided to go find a bench at Bethesda Row so I could properly devour these cakes of glory. I found a nice, shady spot and took a bite of the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. My eyes were closed in seconds and I saw rainbows and unicorns and skittles were falling from the sky. It is likely that passersby may have heard the groaning I was making and decided to keep it moving-- it is rude to watch someone making out with her cupcake! I opened my eyes and came back to reality--briefly. Not only is the cupcake, fluffy, moist, and rich, the FROSTING is delicious! Now this is coming from a picky broad. And I am quite picky about my frosting! Did not taste store-bought. Did not melt all over me, and complimented the cupcake perfectly, if not made it better. I had a brief thought that maybe I was over-reacting and simply succumbing to pms... after all, I did have a severe cupcake craving. I took a second bite. The groan was apparently louder and the same unicorns galloped across the exact same rainbow! I had to phone a friend and tell her how delicious this thing was. She was already aware of the spell that Georgetown cupcakes puts one under. I however, will be chasing that high until the end of time! Bottom line- GO GET ONE As for the price, that damn cupcake was so good I don't even remember how much I paid for them... read more

This one is SO much better than the one in Georgetown. If I want a cupcake I want it now and not after almost an hour wait! Though sometimes there is a line there, but it's never too long and service is pretty speedy. Gtown cupcakes are my most favorite! The frosting itself is divine. Smooth, light, and fluffy! And the cake part is good and moist, which is where some cupcakes fail. The flavors are kickass too, I've made it my mission to try atleast one of all of them. My go-to's are Red Velvet and Chocolate 2 though, I don't have favorites cause they're all yummy :) They are a bit pricey I guess, depending on who you are and how you look at it. One cupcake is $2.75, half a dozen is $15, and a dozen will run you $30. For the quality though, I think it's fair read more
I like Georgetown cupcakes but I don't think I'd pay for it regularly. If you go in the morning and guess the flavor of the day, you can get a free one! They post about it on twitter. Today's free flavor of the day was peach/lemon with vanilla frosting.The cupcake was moist with small bits of peach in the center. I didn't taste anything remotely close to lemon but no major complaints! I love the frosting here. It's very creamy but there's a lightness to it as well. Cupcakes have never been my dessert of choice and I think $3 for one is overpriced (it's quite small). However, I've never been disappointed by Georgetown and I've sampled the Red Velvet, Vanilla, and a number of chocolate cupcake variations over the years. The chocolate Ganache, in particular, is wonderful. If cupcakes are your thing I'd say it's worth it try these out at least once! read more
Red Velet is the way to go! My sister's been craving these little babies since I dont know when but she's been bugging me to take her since she found out there's one in Bethesda. We got a red velet and a toasted mashmallow cupcake to eat there and a cup of hot chocolate :) The toasted mashmallow was Mehhh.. nothing special. The red velet was delicious though! We also got a half dozen of assorted flavors to go for later in the night.. hehe. These cupcakes are delicious once in awhile.. its a great treat but I wouldn't be able to eat it all the time. When we got to the shop around 4:30pm on a weekday, there was a small line of cupcake cravers still?!?! I don't get it. The shop itself is pretty small so the line behind me was actually outside the door. (Thank god we made it in so we didn't have to stand in the cold). Anyway, now that we've gotten our cupcake fix it'll probably be another half year to a year till our next craving. lol. P.S.- I just had the toffee cupcake, pretty good too :) read more

I tiptoed out of the store. I tiptoed across the street. I tiptoed to the parking lot and gently put the bag full of cupcakes down. It was almost as if I was handling a newborn. I have never been so careful with cupcakes. The ride felt so long as I filled with anticipation. I could not wait to get my hands on those cupcakes. It's my birthday so I splurged a bit and purchased a dozen yummy ones. Then I opened the box...... It was as if a category 5 earthquake had ensued and a tornado quietly crept in! They were flipped all over and the icing completely wiped off, as if May-weather got to them. I painstakingly tried to put the icing back on and return the cupcakes in their slots. It halfway worked. Then I tried getting one out, nope didn't happen. The cupcakes were stuck due to the icing beneath them. I just reached in and store apart the cupcake (pumpkin spice) and it was super mushy md the bottom layer of cake was super grainy. The icing overwhelmingly sweet. For $33 bucks for cupcakes and the long wait in pretty cold weather, I was not too satisfied. Please if you purchase a large order of cupcakes, it's worth the extra two minutes to open and make sure they are not flipped all over the place. I had better luck with the peanut butter fudge... The cupcakes are overpriced. And they're not the best. Sometimes they're dry. The reason why I give the Bethesda location 2 stars and not 1 star is because you do not need to wait in as long of a line as the other locations. If you must get a cupcake from here, maybe try the red velvet or the lemon (I forgot the name) one. Not worth the hype. But it doesn't hurt to visit it if you must. read more
