This location is better than Georgetown, believe it or not. Skip the line, come here. I know, you know, we all know Georgetown cupcakes are decent. Sometimes the hype is worth it, what can I say. Just look at this picture. It's a cupcake. I gave it 4/5, because I want more.
The cupcakes here are delicious and moist. They have a large variety of cupcakes so you can choose the type of cupcake you want. I really like the caramel, coconut and strawberry cupcakes but you can't go wrong with any of them. There really isn't space to sit so you need to take the cupcakes to go. I liked that there wasn't a long wait and the service was good.
Overall, the Georgetown Cupcake in Bethesda is a high 3* experience and certainly one worth visiting for a delicious cupcake. The shop could easily be a 4* if not for the decline in quality which is too considerable to overlook. The decline is in their presentation, attention to detail, and overall quality. That said, these cupcakes are as good, if not better than your average bakery cupcake. Again, the 3* is because the cupcake quality once was arguably most competitive in the region. They do offer traditional flavors which are available on specific days of the week and seasonal flavors that are themed. If you want a specific traditional flavor it is best to arrive early before they sell out. The same goes for their seasonal flavors. Customer service is OK. Street parking does exist, however, considering this is a busy street the parking along the storefront is almost always occupied. There is garage parking in the area down the street from the bakery. I will continue to visit when in the area. Give them a try.
I love cupcakes , however, through the years , this place has disappointed me. The service is good, no complaints, there but the shop is so small. It's always cramped.. The door can easily smack someone waiting on the inside! Their menu has expanded, and it would be nice if some of the menu items had a short description, so we don't have to keep asking the staff what's in this or that. The taste, they changed the recipe and it doesn't taste the same. The cupcakes taste more artificial and more like it came from a Betty Crocker cake mix. What chapped my @ was when my cupcakes were placed in their iconic pink box, and they were tilted. Like seriously? So yeah. Unless someone else is treating. It's a no for me. I rather go to Sprinkles.
I picked up my cupcakes and checked them in the store. When I opened the box, they were in terrible condition--upside down, melted, and stuck together, looking like a complete mess inside the box. I immediately asked for a replacement, but the manager did not come out to assist me. I eventually had to leave because I was parked directly in front of the store. I paid $98 for two boxes of cupcakes that were completely ruined and unusable. I had planned to gift them to my office, but now my plans are ruined.
Believe me or not, but I think the Bethesda location has better tasting cupcakes than the location in Georgetown. Most of the time I order my cupcakes from this location. I'm a cupcake fanatic and have been eating their cupcakes for years. Time and time again, the Bethesda location proves to be superior. My recommendations are any cheesecake flavor, the red velvet, and my favorite months for specialized cupcakes are February and October (for their red velvet flavors and their pumpkin!!).
Georgetown Cupcakes are still my favorite even though the rest of the world seemed to have moved on to other bakeries. I'm still a die hard fan of their red velvet cupcake and continue to order boxes to gift to family and friends on special occasions.
Georgetown cupcake is a classic staple of the dmv area. The cake is fluffy as always. The flavor is distinct and shines through the cake well. The frosting is rich and thick. If you're not a frosting person, these cupcakes aren't for you. There is quite a bit of frosting, but it compliments the cake well. I like that for the whole month of February there are heart decorations! The service surprised me a little as when I opened my box there was a smoshed finger print in the frosting of two of my cupcakes. Probably when the server went to grab them they got the frosting. It was a bit upsetting as the most exciting part of the cupcake is the aesthetic appeal.
Picked up my cupcakes and opened the box and they just looked like a mess, not sure if they were dropped or tilted too much when going into the bag but definitely should have checked them before leaving the store. So sad and not suitable for gifting.
This is a very convenient location, located in high traffic downtown area, convenient parking garage right across the street. Service: efficient, line moves fast Cupcakes: delicious, it has been our favorite in comparison to all other cupcake shops, buttery bottom and creamy top. Price: not the cheapest, on the pricy side, but...you get what you pay for. Inside the shop: clean , tiny place, can get crowded with people who waiting for orders instead of order ahead just to pick up. Highly recommend by @WineDinenVacay
My first experience with Georgetown cupcakes was when my wifes best friend sent us a dozen to us where we lived in California to celebrate the birth of our first child 11 years ago. Fast forward to today and we live close by and were out with some friends and stepped in. The shop is little on the small side so I could see it getting crowded easily. The cupcake selection was extensive. So much so we spent a lot of time talking with the guy behind the counter regarding the difference between the 4 different types of chocolate cupcakes. We got a bunch and I sampled the Red Velvet, Key Lime and the Lavender Earl Grey. The Key Lime was my favorite flavor wise. Also the cupcakes were little on the small side compared to some of the other bakeries that we have been to in the area. Overall the experience was good and we would probably swing back in if we were in the area.
I used to be a regular at the Georgetown Cupcakes in Boston before the pandemic. I was sad to see the business had downsized but was ecstatic to visit again during a trip to DC. We decided to go to the Bethesda location instead of the Georgetown location thinking the parking situation would be more favorable. Of course, the street was blocked off for an event taking place the next day. I decided to get a half dozen cupcakes, not knowing the next time I'd be able to make it back to either location. I ordered two vanilla2, a vanilla birthday, a red velvet, a chocolate ganache, and a salted caramel. I couldn't quite remember which vanilla was my favorite but I went with my gut and got two of the cream cheese icing variety. I remembered enjoying the other flavors before and went out on a limb to try the salted caramel. The cupcakes were good. However, they did not quite rise to the level of deliciousness I remembered. And the chocolate ganache and the salted caramel were completely forgettable. In all fairness, it is hard to compete with a memory and something as simple as a change in elevation can affect baking results. I shared these cupcakes with first time Georgetown customers and they were very impressed. Overall, I'd give the vanillas and the red velvet 5 stars as they still rose above the quality of cupcake you can find at other bakeries and I'd be willing to try other flavors.
Georgetown Cupcakes are delicious and moist. The icing if rich with the perfect balance of sweetness not overpowering the cupcake. There's typically a line (short or long; depending on the location and time of day you go. The customer service is great and the line typically goes quick. All the cupcakes are highly enjoyable. ORDER: * Chocolate S'mores * Chocolate cupcake with a s'more flavor icing. I was told this is similar to the hot chocolate cupcake which was my original pick however they were all out. * Red Velvet * My favorite red velvet cupcake in the chocolate family was amazing. The icing tastes like a cross between buttercream and cream cheese icing. It's hard to say; nonetheless it was yummy. * Chocolate * OK, so clearly another chocolate cupcake; what difference can you possibly have and why choose a plain cupcake. Hear me out; a classic chocolate cupcake is pure bliss. This plain chocolate cupcake with buttercream icing was great. A chocolate lovers dream. SERVICE: The service was great. The gal at the register had a good handle on he flow considering their system was down requiring manually entry of debit/credit card transactions vs cash transactions. Despite the system being down, the staff was able to navigate through customers fairly well working under the pressure of the occasional questions from a customer regarding the system being down. Tip: always carry cash so you don't miss out on a sweet treat due to a system outage and not wanting to provide your card information manually. So, lots of hype about this place, right? Perhaps it's just me (I mean to me a cupcake is generally just a cupcake), but I was expecting something truly exceptional after all the noise and for me the cupcakes fall short. Yes, they are good cupcakes-that I won't deny-but there is nothing extraordinarily special about them. For a comparison point, I would say that Magnolia Bakery's cupcakes in NYC would stomp Georgetown Cupcake's cupcakes in a street fight, no doubt about it. Best aspect of Georgetown Cupcake: secret daily cupcake FREE if you say the name right at the register (you have to look it up online). They hand you a prepacked bag with a delicious and free cupcake inside. read more
$3 for a cupcake. 6 cupcakes for $16.50 I've had most of the cupcakes here as it is the most convenient cupcake shop in Bethesda - recently had the Red Velvet, Chocolate Ganache and Key lime. The cupcakes are just regular to me - tastes like your average cupcake at best. The frosting to cupcake ratio on all three was too heavy on the frosting for my taste, with the icing being overly sweet. However, they do sell milk at the counter if you need some balance. A little overhyped in my opinion. I love sweets in general, so this is still a good stop in Bethesda if I'm in the mood for dessert. Service is quick, and lines are definitely shorter than the Georgetown location. read more

Mainly due to proximity, waaay shorter lines than the DC location, and a $100 gift card that never seems to run out, I have the displeasure of walking over to the Bethesda location a couple of times a year. I've tried many of their cupcakes, and, to me, the only one worth getting is the red velvet--and even that isn't all that great. The cake component lacks flavor, and the frosting is way too overpowering. Honestly, this place is only for parents and their kids with mediocre standards, at best. If you want a real cupcake with flavor, substance and character, check out Baked & Wired in Georgetown. You'll know what I mean after one bite. Taste the rainbow. read more
Pretty good cupcakes. Price is a premium for these little sweets. Been a couple of times and found the taste and texture different. These are a treat and hope it was just an off day or something. Staff is efficient and informative if you have questions. It is in a busy area with plenty of foot traffic. read more

I'm starting to pay more attention to cupcake places lately. As good as Georgetown Cupcake is, and it's delicious, it still doesn't beat Molly's Cupcakes in Chicago, IL. Using yucky supermarket bakery cupcakes (i.e. giant or safeway) as a reference, GTCC gets a 4. but next to molly's (the epitome of what a cupcake place COULD be), it's a 3. why? size matters. too much frosting (though it's a perfect light, not too sweet frosting). too little cake. lack of creativity. Anywho, GTCC is still a winner as one bite of it was able to make my dad, a chinese man in his 60's who rarely has any opinion about desserts and doesn't usually comment even if something is good, couldn't stop raving about it. I work in bethesda nearby and heard that GTCC opened up another store in bethesda which is great because the lines at the M street store are way too long and as good as cupcakes are, i dont want to wait too long for it b/c they're not THAT novel. i'll wait in line for the hong kong cake lady in chinatown NYC, but not for GTCC. at the bethesda store there was no line, i ordered half a dozen for $15 and was out the door. It was so uncharacteristic to see my dad take a bite and then want to go back for 2nds and 3rds. i got the lava fudge, vanilla, red velvet and hazelnut. they were all super delicious - except the hazelnut - i didn't like the crunchy topping, it takes away from the moist cake, and i couldn't taste hazelnut at all in that. another complaint i have about GTCC's cupcakes is that they are rather small and even smaller once you peel off the paper - half the cupcake goes with it! i do LOVE cupcakes that have stuffing inside - but get more creative folks! what about cookie dough centers? berries? or something other than more frosting or peanut butter in the middle? get off the beaten path from vanilla and chocolate and red velvet please! put some color on those cakes! in the cupcake world it's great to have a moist delicious recipe for cupcakes but cupcakes are in themselves not original: you gotta put some unfamiliar on the familiar. read more

I was super excited to find out that Georgetown Cupcakes had a location in Bethesda. For one, the lines at this location are wayyyy shorter than the line in its original location in Georgetown. The cupcakes are pricey for the size, but the flavor is is so delectable with the perfect amount of sweetness. The frosting does not taste like artificial sugar nor is it heavily loaded on top. It compliments the flavor of the cupcake very well. There are daily cupcake selections offered such as vanilla birthday, chocolate ganache, red velvet, and double milk chocolate. There are seasonal selections such as pumpkin spice, cherry blossom, butterscotch cheesecake, and the options are endless. There is definitely a cupcake flavor to satisfy every sweet tooth. On this particular visit, we ordered the sticky toffee pudding, Santa chocolate chip, and butterscotch cheesecake. The toffee pudding cupcake had toffee bits in it and a savory crunch to it. The cheesecake was rich, soft, and with a buttery crust. The wait is never too long, but I suggest making your selections while you wait. Yes, there are that many choices to choose from on any given day! Selections are placed on a wall in big black and white letters (you cannot miss it). There is one cashier and multiple staff present to fulfill orders. Sometimes they will have a sign at the register if they run out of a particular flavor. There is only one round table for seating inside the bakery, so take your order outside to enjoy if the weather is nice. read more

Been to this location twice and after having many cupcakes around NYC, this is still my favorite cupcake spot. No one can compete with Georgetown's delicious, creamy frosting and icing. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients in every bite. The cakes are moist and perfect, but the flavor is truly in the icing. My favorites are the chocolate ganache and the red velvet. Prices are fair, especially for such high quality cupcakes. Parking is somewhat of an issue since it is a busy street, so I usually have someone wait in the car while I run out and go get my fix. I haven't tried the cupcakes in the NY location yet but I'll definitely be checking it out soon. read more

As the popularity of this place grows by the day, i seriously don't know what's so special about these cupcakes. Personally i've met the owners and they were really friendly in person. And trust me, i'm all for the gourmet cupcakes but i've found many other Cupcake Shops around that are better. I do admit that they're really adorable and pretty to look at. But considering the price for one and the sizes? I think i'd rather not wait in that line for them. I find that these cupcakes were really small and tad to dense. With the frosting being a bit to sweet for me, i would have much rather have the icing a bit more fluffier as well. Service is always great. The place itself is cute and chic. But in the end, they're "A-OK". read more
These cupcakes are game changers. They are not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. A huge selection of favors. The frosting is not overly sweet and the crumb is super moist and flavorful. I love the red velvet and coconut versions but the dark chocolate chocolate is also on the top of my list. Do not go here on a diet. read more

The Beast in the East. This cupcake shop is THE standard by which all others hope to aspire to... Sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne passion for artful cupcakes has turned into something of a juggernaut, especially in the DC area: http://www.georgetowncupcake.com/ We happened to be staying nearby to the Bethesda Row location so I was able to see firsthand what all of the hoopla was all about. They must be making cupcakes daily in the thousands in order to meet the demand from their fanatical followers. There is a line daily that I hear stretches down the block on some days, just too crazy!... I was able to try a couple of flavors over the course of a couple of days: Chocolate Ganache; Chocolate Mint; Red Velvet; Toffee; Chocolate2(squared); Banana Split (a daily secret flavor); Some of the flavors were great, some were just ok, just as you would expect. My favorite one was the Chocolate Ganache because I liked the ganache topping over their frostings (in general). The candy flower petal topping was sort of cute, in a childlike whimsical way. I found out that their daily secret flavor is obtained by going onto their page on facebook or twitter. I didn't happen to care for their Banana Split flavor on that particular day. The decor of their shop is classy clean. The small army of workers are young and congenial all around like plucky minions of Google. I was particularly impressed by the compartmentalized boxes with individual round recesses which hold the cupcakes; simple but effective, sort of like a pastry cake box feel to it, a nice touch in industrial design that fits their company image... Lots of flavors to choose from. Red Velvet is the shop's specialty, but since this flavor is offered in every cupcakery, I personally like the others. I like that the cupcakes aren't super-sized and dripping with syrups and icing (ahem, Crumbs); too much sweetness would detract from the overall taste. You can order cupcakes online in advance of a special occasion. A girlfriend of mine was running a marathon in DC and the shop was willing to make our order more "special" by placing a fondant image of a girl running, complete with a pink hair accessory holding back the ponytail. It was really cute, and complemented the occasion perfectly! Every visit I make to DC or to MD will include a visit to Georgetown Cupcakes! read more

There is nothing like Sprinkles cup cakes in California, non other- but GTown cupcakes comes so close it's surreal! I've had many cupcakes at other locations and they are always over priced and tiny. My fave is the lemon one, it's amazing. I'm kind of over red velvet as everyone sweats it way to much it's almost unnecesssary. It's chocolate cake with cocoa and red dye ppl! Not that serious. Tip is to try other flavors. Just saying lol read more

First time trying Georgetown Cupcakes and wow was it delicious, super moist and not overly sweet. We went on a weekend around 5ish; there were plenty of flavors to choose from and we were in and out in less than 10 mins. $3.50 for a cupcake is a bit expensive but it's cheaper if you buy it by the dozen or half dozen. read more

We got: chocolate milk chocolate bday cake, red velvet, cookies and cream, lemon, vanilla chocolate, coconut and cinnamon. We loved the cupcakes but the service was kind of odd. We were celebrating my doggie bday and they SOLD us the candle for 25 cents and then they told us they don't have any matches or lighter. They also don't have seats so we seat outside but the seats are part of the restaurant beside (cava) and if they need the seats they will kindly ask you to move. read more
My friend and I returned and tried three new cupcakes this time. They were just as good as the first time. Caramel apple - reminded me of the salted caramel from last time because of the decoration and the flavors, except the cake has some apple chunks. In addition to the frosting, there was also caramel in the center, which was a little overwhelming but still delicious. Carrot cake - delicious, lots of noticeable shredded carrot to help us feel pseudo-healthy. Lemon berry - yum, the lemon cake was delicious. I don't understand where the berry came in, since there were no other fruit flavors to go with the lemon. They might be referring to how the bright pink frosting made it look like a berry? Next goal is to try all of their flavors sometime within the next year. Georgetown Cupcake is lucky to have us as customers :P read more

Me and gf stopped by here this past weekend, and I have to tell you that its pretty awesome! My gf and her cousin had it when they were here last summer. I heard that it was on DC Cupcakes but I've never seen the show. The first day we were around the area the line outside the store was about a block down the street. We thought weren't gonna be able to try it out. But we decided to come back the next day and do a drive by and see the line. Luckily, it was a Monday and there was no line whatsoever (score!!). Before you walk in, you are greeted outside the store and handed a cupcake menu, which I thought was pretty cool. We walked inside to a pink and black themed store. A little table to sit at and munch on them goodies! The place was really small! Anyways, I ordered a Toffee, Chocolate Mint, and the Chocolate Coconut. My first bite of the Toffee I was taken aback by how sweeeeet it was! HOLY CRAP instant headache! I couldn't even finish it. The Chocolate Mint and Coconut were really good! You can really taste the flavors of the mint and coconut. The cupcake was so moist too! I'd probably stay away from the Toffee one! I def wanna try the rest of the menu! Probably gonna try to always stop by here whenever I'm back in the area! read more

If you ask me what's the different between georgetown cupcake and other cupcake place? Then my answer will be the icing. The line was out the door. All the cupcakes looked delicious. I only got to try the red velvet of all the ones we bought, but it was absolutely delicious. It wasn't too sweet. The frosting was the perfect combination of cheesy and creamy and sweet. We also ordered vanilla birthday, key lime, cherry blossom, chocolate mint crunch cheesecake, salted caramel, cookies and cream, chocolate ganache, and coconut. Didn't hear anything bad about any of them! read more

Bought a half dozen which was almost 20$ and it was so worth it! We chose caramel cheesecake, 2 red velvets, cookies and cream, coconut and birthday chocolate vanilla cake. They were amazingly good! And the lines are not as crazy as the one in Georgetown. I will hopefully be back. read more
